The Monsky-Washnitzer cohomology and the de Rham cohomology

The author constructs a theory of dagger formal schemes over $R$ and then defines the de Rham cohomology for flat dagger formal schemes $X$ with integral and regular reductions $\bar{X}$ which generalizes the Monsky-Washnitzer cohomology. Point Counting on Non-Hyperelliptic Genus 3 Curves with Automorphism Group $\mathbb{Z} / 2 \mathbb{Z}$ using Monsky-Washnitzer Cohomology

We describe an algorithm to compute the zeta function of any non-hyperelliptic genus 3 plane curve $C$ over a finite field with automorphism group $G = \mathbb{Z} / 2 \mathbb{Z}$. This algorithm computes in the Monsky-Washnitzer cohomology of~the curve. Using the relation between the Monsky-Washnitzer cohomology of $C$ and its quotient $E := C/G$, the computation splits into 2 parts: one in a subspace of the Monsky-Washnitzer cohomology and a second which reduces to the point counting on an elliptic curve $E$. Counting Points on Hyperelliptic Curves using Monsky-Washnitzer Cohomology

We describe an algorithm for counting points on an arbitrary hyperelliptic curve over a finite field of odd characteristic, using Monsky-Washnitzer cohomology to compute a p-adic approximation to the characteristic polynomial of Frobenius. For fixed p, the asymptotic running time for a curve of genus g over the field of p^n elements is O(g^{4+ε} n^{3+ε}).

The Monsky-Washnitzer and the overconvergent realizations

We construct the dagger realization functor for analytic motives over non-archimedean fields of mixed characteristic, as well as the Monsky-Washnitzer realization functor for algebraic motives over a discrete field of positive characteristic. In particular, the motivic language on the classic étale site provides a new direct definition of the overconvergent de Rham cohomology and rigid cohomology and shows that their finite dimensionality follows formally from the one of Betti cohomology for smooth projective complex varieties.

Dagger completions and bornological torsion-freeness

We define a dagger algebra as a bornological algebra over a discrete valuation ring with three properties that are typical of Monsky-Washnitzer algebras, namely, completeness, bornological torsion-freeness and a certain spectral radius condition. We study inheritance properties of the three properties that define a dagger algebra. We describe dagger completions of bornological algebras in general and compute some noncommutative examples.

On Dwork cohomology and algebraic D-modules

After works by Katz, Monsky, and Adolphson-Sperber, a comparison theorem between relative de Rham cohomology and Dwork cohomology is established in a paper by Dimca-Maaref-Sabbah-Saito in the framework of algebraic D-modules. We propose here an alternative proof of this result. The use of Fourier transform techniques makes our approach more functorial.
