Let X be a smooth projective variety of dimension n on which a simple Lie group G acts regularly and non trivially. Then X is not minimal in the sense of the Minimal Model Program. In the paper we work out a classification of X via the Minimal Model Program under the assumption that the dimension of X is small with the respect to the dimension of G. More precisely we classify all such X with n smaller or equal to (r_G +1), where r_G is the minimum codimension of the maximal parabolic subgroup of G (for instance r_{SL(m)}= m-1). We consider also the case when G = SL(3) and X is a smooth 4-fold on which G acts with an open orbit.
In this paper, we study the geometric invariant theory on algebraic spaces, and construct te moduli spaces of $\mathcal{H}$-semistable sheaves on projective Deligne-Mumford stacks over algebraic spaces $S$. We prove that this moduli space is projective over $S$ as an algebraic space.
We prove that a generic holomorphic foliation on a weighted projective plane has no algebraic solutions when the degree is big enough. We also prove an analogous result for foliations on Hirzebruch surfaces.
We prove that the universal cover of a normal, projective variety X is quasi-projective if and only if a finite, étale cover of X is a fiber bundle over an Abelian variety with simply connected fiber.
A criterion for the existence of a birational embedding of an algebraic curve into a projective plane with two Galois points is presented. Several novel examples of plane curves with two inner Galois points as an application are described.
A general method of computing cohomology groups of the space of nonsingular algebraic hypersurfaces of degree $d$ in $CP^n$ is described. Using this method, rational cohomology groups of such spaces with $n=2, d \le 4$ and $n=3=d$ are calculated.
In this article, we address the classification of smooth projective algebraic surfaces over complex numbers admitting algebraic semigroup structures. We give a full description of those surfaces $S$, which has at least one non-trivial algebraic semigroup structure, when the Kodaira dimension of $S$ is $ -\infty$ and $ 0$. For the case "$ κ(S)=1$", we give a description of one special type of elliptic surfaces which admit non-trivial algebraic semigroup laws. \\ For a given surface $S$, it is an interesting problem to describe all algebraic semigroup structures on it and determine the dimension…
A. Girand has constructed an explicit two-parameter family of flat connections over the complex projective plane $\mathbb{P}^2$. These connections have dihedral monodromy and their polar locus is a prescribed quintic composed of a conic and three tangent lines. In this paper, we give a generalization of this construction. That is, we construct an explicit $n$-parameter family of flat connections over the complex projective space $\mathbb{P}^n$. Moreover, we discuss the relation between these connections and the Garnier system.
Atiyah and Hirzebruch gave examples ofeven degree torsion classes in the singularcohomology of a smooth complex projective manifold, which arenot Poincaré dual to an algebraiccycle. We notice that the order ofthese classes are small comparedto the dimension of the manifold. However, building upon a construction ofKollàr, one can provide such examples witharbitrary high prime order, the dimension being fixed. This method alsoprovides examples of torsion algebraiccycles, which are non trivial in the Griffiths' groups, and lie in a arbitrary high level of the H.Saito filtration onChow groups.
We provide a natural smooth projective compactification of the space of algebraic maps from the projective line to the projective space of dimension n by adding a divisor with simple normal crossings.
We discuss the minimal model program for projective morphisms of complex analytic spaces. Roughly speaking, we show that the results obtained by Birkar--Cascini--Hacon--M\textsuperscript{c}Kernan hold true for projective morphisms between complex analytic spaces. We also treat some related topics.
We show that the spectral radius for the action of a self map $f$ of a smooth projective variety (over an arbitrary base field) on its $\ell$-adic cohomology is achieved on the $f^*$-stable sub-algebra generated by any ample class. This generalizes a result of Esnault-Srinivas who had obtained an analogous result for automorphisms of surfaces. Over $\mathbb{C}$ we also show that this sub-algebra is naturally an irreducible representation of a Looijenga-Lunts-Verbitsky type Lie algebra acting on the cohomology of a smooth projective variety.
We introduce a notion of Homological Projective Duality for smooth algebraic varieties in dual projective spaces, a homological extension of the classical projective duality. If algebraic varieties $X$ and $Y$ in dual projective spaces are Homologically Projectively Dual, then we prove that the orthogonal linear sections of $X$ and $Y$ admit semiorthogonal decompositions with an equivalent nontrivial component. In particular, it follows that triangulated categories of singularities of these sections are equivalent. We also investigate Homological Projective Duality for projectivizations of vec…
In this article we prove a result comparing rationality of algebraic cycles over the function field of a projective homogeneous variety under a linear algebraic group of type $F_4$ or $E_8$ and over the base field, which can be of any characteristic.
We classify minimal-degree curves in the Hilbert schemes of points on algebraic surfaces. When the algebraic surface is the projective plane, the nef cone and a flip structure of these Hilbert schemes are determined.
Let $L$ be a very ample line bundle on a smooth curve $C$ of genus $g$ with $\frac{3g+3}{2}<°L\le 2g-5$. Then $L$ is normally generated if $°L>\max\{2g+2-4h^1(C,L), 2g-\frac{g-1}{6}-2h^1(C,L)\}$. Let $C$ be a triple covering of genus $p$ curve $C'$ with $C\stackrelϕ\to C'$ and $D$ a divisor on $C'$ with $4p<°D< \frac{g-1}{6}-2p$. Then $K_C(-ϕ^*D)$ becomes a very ample line bundle which is normally generated. As an application, we characterize some smooth projective surfaces.
We study the algebraic hyperbolicity of very general hypersurfaces in $\mathbb{P}^m \times \mathbb{P}^n$ by using three techniques that build on past work by Ein, Voisin, Pacienza, Coskun and Riedl, and others. As a result, we completely answer the question of whether or not a very general hypersurface of bidegree $(a,b)$ in $\mathbb{P}^m \times \mathbb{P}^n$ is algebraically hyperbolic, except in $\mathbb{P}^3 \times \mathbb{P}^1$ for the bidegrees $(a,b)= (7,3), (6,3)$ and $(5,b)$ with $b\geq 3.$ As another application of these techniques, we improve the known result that very general hypers…
Let $A$ be an abelian variety over an algebraically closed field. We show that $A$ is the automorphism group scheme of some smooth projective variety if and only if $A$ has only finitely many automorphisms as an algebraic group. This generalizes a result of Lombardo and Maffei for complex abelian varieties.
This paper is devoted to the investigation of selected situations when the computation of projective (and other) equivalences of algebraic varieties can be efficiently solved with the help of finding projective equivalences of finite sets on the projective line. In particular, we design a unifying approach that finds for two algebraic varieties $X,Y$ from special classes an associated set of automorphisms of the projective line (the so called good candidate set) consisting of candidates for the construction of possible mappings $X\rightarrow Y$. The functionality of the designed method is pres…
We study the homotopy types of spaces of algebraic (rational) maps from real projective spaces into complex projective spaces. In a previous paper we have shown that the inclusion of the first space into the second one is a homotopy equivalence. In this paper we prove that the homotopy types of the terms of the natural "degree" filtration approximate closer and closer the homotopy type of the space of continuous maps and obtain bounds that describe the closeness of the approximation in terms of the degree. Moreover, we compute the homotopy groups of the spaces in low dimensions.
Regular algebraic surfaces isogenous to a higher product of curves can be obtained from finite groups with ramification structures. We find unmixed ramification structures for finite groups constructed as p-quotients of particular infinite groups with special presentations related to finite projective planes.
We discover a class of projective self-dual algebraic varieties. Namely, we consider actions of isotropy groups of complex symmetric spaces on the projectivized nilpotent varieties of isotropy modules. For them, we classify all orbit closures $X$ such that $X=\check X$ where $\check X$ is the projective dual of $X$. We give algebraic criteria of projective self-duality for the considered orbit closures.
We first show that any connected algebraic group over a perfect field is the neutral component of the automorphism group scheme of some normal projective variety. Then we show that very few connected algebraic semigroups can be realized as endomorphisms of some projective variety X, by describing the structure of all connected subsemigroup schemes of End(X).

We discuss the geometry of rational maps from a projective space of an arbitrary dimension to the product of projective spaces of lower dimensions induced by linear projections. In particular, we give an algebro-geometric variant of the projective reconstruction theorem by Hartley and Schaffalitzky [HS09].
A criterion for the existence of a birational embedding into a projective plane with three collinear Galois points for algebraic curves is presented. The extendability of an automorphism induced by a Galois point to a linear transformation of the projective plane is also discussed, under the assumption that two Galois points exist.
We show an analogue of Jordan's theorem for algebraic groups defined over a field $\mathbb k$ of arbitrary characteristic. As a consequence, a Jordan-type property holds for the automorphism group of any projective variety over $\mathbb k$.
Non-dicritical codimension one foliations on projective spaces of dimension four or higher always have an invariant algebraic hypersurface. The proof relies on a strengthening of a result by Rossi on the algebraization/continuation of analytic subvarieties of projective spaces.
The set of common roots of a finite set $I$ (it is an ideal) of homogeneous polynomials is known as projective algebraic set $V$. In this article I show how to dualize such projective algebraic sets $V$ by elimination of variables from a system of polynomials with the Gröbner bases method. A dualization algorithm is implemented in the computer algebra system {\sc Singular}. Some examples are given. The main diagram shows the relationship between the ideal $I$, its radical $\sqrt{I}$ and their dual ideals.
Let $f : X -> B$ be a projective surjective morphism between quasi-projective varieties. The goal of this paper is the study of the Chow groups of $X$ in terms of the Chow groups of $B$ and of the fibers of $f$. One of the applications concerns quadric bundles. When $X$ and $B$ are smooth projective and when $f$ is a flat quadric fibration, we show that the motive of $X$ is "built" from the motives of varieties of dimension less than the dimension of $B$.
In our previous work, we provided an algebraic proof of the Zinger's comparison formula between genus one Gromov-Witten invariants and reduced invariants when the target space is a complete intersection of dimension two or three in a projective space. In this paper, we extend the result in any dimensions and for descendant invariants.
Given a very ample line bundle L on a projective variety X, the syzygy bundle M_L associated to L is the kernel of the evaluation map on sections of L. Our main result is that if X is a smooth projective surface defined over an algebraically closed field, then M_L is slope-stable for any sufficiently positive L.
In the present paper, we study the relationship between deformation quantizations and Frobenius-projective structures defined on an algebraic curve in positive characteristic. A Frobenius-projective structure is an analogue of a complex projective structure on a Riemann surface, which was introduced by Y. Hoshi. Such an additional structure has some equivalent objects, e.g., a dormant $\mathrm{PGL}_2$-oper and a projective connection having a full set of solutions. The main result of the present paper provides a canonical construction of a Frobenius-constant quantization on the cotangent space…
Using the data schemes developed by Arrondo-Sols-Speiser, we give a rigorous definition of algebraic differential equations on the complex projective space $P^n$. For an algebraic subvariety $S \subseteq P^n$, we present an explicit formula for the degree of the divisor of solutions of a differential equation on $S$ and give some examples of applications. We extend the technique and result to the real case.
Given a suitable action on a complex projective variety X of a non-reductive affine algebraic group H, this paper considers how to choose a reductive group G containing H and a projective completion of G x_H X which is a reductive envelope in the sense of math.AG/0703131. In particular it studies the family of examples given by moduli spaces of hypersurfaces in the weighted projective plane P(1,1,2) obtained as quotients by linear actions of the (non-reductive) automorphism group of P(1,1,2).
Let $\mathbb{K}$ be an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero and $\mathbb{G}_a$ be the additive group of $\mathbb{K}$. We say that an irreducible algebraic variety $X$ of dimension $n$ over the field $\mathbb{K}$ admits an additive action if there is a regular action of the group $\mathbb{G}_a^n = \mathbb{G}_a \times \ldots \times \mathbb{G}_a$ ($n$ times) on $X$ with an open orbit. In this paper we find all projective toric hypersurfaces admitting additive action.
We define graded, quasi-coherent $\mathcal{O}_S$-algebras over a given base derived scheme $S$, and show that these are equivalent to derived $\mathbb{G}_{m,S}$-schemes which are affine over $S$. We then use this $\mathbb{G}_{m,S}$-action to define the projective spectrum $\mathrm{Proj} (\mathcal{B})$ of a graded algebra $\mathcal{B}$ as a quotient stack, show that $\mathrm{Proj} (\mathcal{B})$ is representable by a derived scheme over $S$, and describe the functor of points of $\mathrm{Proj} (\mathcal{B})$ in terms of line bundles. The theory of graded algebras and projective spectra is then …
Let k be an algebraically closed field and X a smooth projective k-variety. A famous theorem of A. A. Roitman states that the canonical map from the degree zero part of the Chow group of zero cycles on X to the group of k-points of its Albanese variety induces an isomorphism on torsion prime to the characteristic of k. In the present paper we prove a generalisation to quasi-projective varieties admitting a smooth compactification. As was first observed by Ramachandran, for such a generalisation one should replace the Chow group of zero cycles by Suslin's 0-th algebraic singular homology group …
We are interested in stringy invariants of singular projective algebraic varieties satisfying a strict monotonicity with respect to elementary birational modifications in the Mori program. We conjecture that the algebraic stringy Euler number is one of such invariants. In the present paper, we prove this conjecture for varieties having an action of a connected algebraic group G and admitting equivariant desingularizations with only finitely many G-orbits. In particular, we prove our conjecture for arbitrary projective spherical varieties.
We extend the $\hat U$-theorem for projective varieties proved in arXiv:1601.00340 and arXiv:1607.04181 to projective schemes over $\mathbb C$. The condition "ss=s" required in arXiv:1601.00340 and arXiv:1607.04181 is reformulated algebraically for our setting. We also describe a blowing up for the condition "ss=s". Different from the sequence of blowing ups in arXiv:1607.04181 , we can get "ss=s" in one blowing up.

Studying coverings over algebraic varieties is an effective method in algebraic geometry. By combining the technique of triple cover from Miranda and Tan, we proved that if the degree of the branch divisor of a normal triple cover over $¶^2$ is no more than $18$ and not equal to $16$, then the trace-free bundle of the triple cover is uniform. Moreover, we totally classified all these trace-free bundles.
For two properly intersecting effective cycles in projective space X,Y, and their intersection product Z, the metric Bezout Theorem relates the degrees, heights of X,Y, and Z, as well as their distances and algebraic distances to a given point theta. Applications of this Theorem are in the area of Diophantine Approximation, giving estimates for approximation properties of Z with respect to $θ$ against the ones of X, and Y.
This paper designs an alogrithm to compute the minimal combinations of finite sets in Euclidean spaces, and applys the algorithm of study the moment maps and geometric invariant stability of hypersurfaces. The classical example of cubic curves is repeated by the algorithm. Furhtermore the alogrithm works for cubic surfaces. For given affinely indepdent subsets of monomials, the algorithm can output the unique unstable points of the Morse strata if it exists. Also there is a discussion on the affinely dependent sets of monomials.
A projective manifold $M$ is algebraically hyperbolic if there exists a positive constant $A$ such that the degree of any curve of genus $g$ on $M$ is bounded from above by $A(g-1)$. A classical result is that Kobayashi hyperbolicity implies algebraic hyperbolicity. It is known that Kobayashi hyperbolic manifolds have finite automorphism groups. Here we prove that, more generally, algebraically hyperbolic projective manifolds have finite automorphism groups.
Using the theory of cohomology support locus, we give a necessary condition for the Albanese map of a smooth projective surface being a submersion. More precisely, assuming the cohomology support locus of any finite abelian cover of a smooth projective surface consists of finitely many points, we prove that the surface has trivial first Betti number, or is a ruled surface of genus one, or is an abelian surface.
