An ansatz of Calabi allows construction of Kahler metrics in an Hermitian disk bundle over a Kahler manifold. We attempt to give a definitive treatment of this ansatz, with the following results: We give curvature conditions on the disk bundle that guarantee existence of families of complete Kahler metrics of constant scalar curvature, including some Einstein-Kahler metrics. These curvature conditions are somewhat weaker than those used by prior authors, and are shown to give rise to large families of metrics that seem to be new. Further, these curvature hypotheses are necessary, in the sense that if the ansatz gives two distinct metrics of constant scalar curvature in a disk bundle, then the curvature hypotheses are satisfied.
The classical Hadamard three circle theorem is generalized to complete Kähler manifolds. More precisely, we show that the nonnegativity of the holomorphic sectional curvature is a necessary and sufficient condition for the three circle theorem. As corollaries, two sharp monotonicity formulae for holomorphic functions are derived. Among applications, we derive sharp dimension estimates (with rigidity) of holomorphic functions with polynomial growth when the holomorphic sectional curvature is nonnegative. When the bisectional curvature is nonnegative, this was due to Ni. Also we study holomorphi…
Obstruction flatness of a strongly pseudoconvex hypersurface $Σ$ in a complex manifold refers to the property that any (local) Kähler-Einstein metric on the pseudoconvex side of $Σ$, complete up to $Σ$, has a potential $-\log u$ such that $u$ is $C^\infty$-smooth up to $Σ$. In general, $u$ has only a finite degree of smoothness up to $Σ$. In this paper, we study obstruction flatness of hypersurfaces $Σ$ that arise as unit circle bundles $S(L)$ of negative Hermitian line bundles $(L, h)$ over Kähler manifolds $(M, g).$ We prove that if $(M,g)$ has constant Ricci eigenvalues, then $S(L)$ is obst…
We classify all Kahler metrics in an open subset of $C^2$ whose real geodesics are circles. All such metrics are equivalent (via complex projective transformations) to Fubini metrics (i.e. to Fubini-Study metric on $CP^2$ restricted to an affine chart, to the complex hyperbolic metric in the unit ball model or to the Euclidean metric).
The analysis of holomorphic sections of high powers $L^N$ of holomorphic ample line bundles $L\to M$ over compact Kähler manifolds has been widely applied in complex geometry and mathematical physics. The Tian-Yau-Zelditch's asymptotic expansion of the Szegö kernel of a circle bundle plays an important role in Kähler-Einstein geometry. We generalize the expansion for compact Kähler orbifolds with only finite isolated singularities and analyze the behavior of the expansion near the singularities.
A knot space in a manifold M is a space of oriented immersions from a circle S^1 to M up to Diff(S^1). Brylinski has shown that a knot space of a Riemannian threefold is formally Kahler. We prove that a space of knots in a holonomy G2 manifold is formally Kahler.
We survey the theory of Kähler-Einstein metrics, with particular focus on the circle of ideas surrounding the Yau-Tian-Donaldson conjecture for Fano manifolds.
The subject of this paper is the explicit momentum construction of complete Einstein metrics by ODE methods. Using the Calabi ansatz, further generalized by Hwang-Singer, we show that there are non-trivial complete conformally Kähler Einstein metrics on certain Hermitian holomorphic vector bundles and their subbundles over complete Kähler-Einstein manifolds. In special cases, we give the explicit expressions of of these metrics. These examples show that there is a compact Kähler manifold $M$ and its subvariety $N$ whose codimension is greater than 1 such that there is a complete conformally Kä…
We classify all scalar-flat toric Kähler 4-manifolds under either of two asymptotic conditions: that the action fields decay slowly (or at all), or that the curvature decay is quadratic; for example we fully classify instantons that have any of the ALE-F-G-H asymptotic types. The momentum functions satisfy a degenerate elliptic equation, and under either asymptotic condition the image of the moment map is closed. Using a recent Liouville theorem for degenerate-elliptic equations, we classify all possibilities for the momentum functions, and from this, all possible metrics.
This paper mainly focuses on the CR analogue of the three-circle theorem in a complete noncompact pseudohermitian manifold of vanishing torsion being odd dimensional counterpart of Kähler geometry. In this paper, we show that the CR three-circle theorem holds if its pseudohermitian sectional curvature is nonnegative. As an application, we confirm the first CR Yau's uniformization conjecture and obtain the CR analogue of the sharp dimension estimate for CR holomorphic functions of polynomial growth and its rigidity when the pseudohermitian sectional curvature is nonnegative. This is also the fi…
We use the momentum construction for $S^1$-invariant Kähler metrics as developed by Hwang-Singer to construct new examples of steady Kähler-Ricci solitons. We also prove that these solitons are unique in their Kähler class, provided the vector field and the asymptotic behaviour are fixed.
Using the twistor correspondence, this article gives a one-to-one correspondence between germs of toric anti-self-dual conformal classes and certain holomorphic data determined by the induced action on twistor space. Recovering the metric from the holomorphic data leads to the classical problem of prescribing the Cech coboundary of 0-cochains on an elliptic curve covered by two annuli. The classes admitting Kahler representatives are described; each such class contains a circle of Kahler metrics. This gives new local examples of scalar-flat Kahler surfaces and generalises work of Joyce who con…
Let X be a Kahler manifold that is presented as a Kahler quotient of C^n by the linear action of a compact group G. We define the hyperkahler analogue M of X as a hyperkahler quotient of the cotangent bundle T^*C^n by the induced G-action. Special instances of this construction include hypertoric varieties and quiver varieties. Our aim is to provide a unified treatment of these two previously studied examples, with specific attention to the geometry and topology of the circle action on M that descends from the scalar action on the fibers of the cotangent bundle. We provide a detailed study of …
We generalize the circle bundle examples of ancient solutions of the Ricci flow discovered by Bakas, Kong, and Ni to a class of principal torus bundles over an arbitrary finite product of Fano Kähler-Einstein manifolds studied by Wang and Ziller in the context of Einstein geometry. As a result, continuous families of $κ$-collapsed and $κ$-noncollapsed ancient solutions of type I are obtained on circle bundles for all odd dimensions $\geq 7$. In dimension $7$ such examples moreover exist on pairs of homeomorphic but not diffeomorphic manifolds. Continuous families of $κ$-collapsed ancient solut…
We study the Hilbert manifold structure on $T_{0}(1)$ -- the connected component of the identity of the Hilbert manifold T(1). We characterize points on $T_{0}(1)$ in terms of Bers and pre-Bers embeddings, and prove that the Grunsky operators $B_{1}$ and $B_{4}$, associated with the points in $T_{0}(1)$ via conformal welding, are Hilbert-Schmidt. We define a ``universal Liouville action'' -- a real-valued function $\SSS_{1}$ on $T_{0}(1)$, and prove that it is a Kähler potential of the Weil-Petersson metric on $T_{0}(1)$. We also prove that $\SSS_{1}$ is $-\tfrac{1}{12π}$ times the logarithm o…
In this paper we compute the Ricci flow formulas for invariant metrics on prinicpal $G$-bundles compatible with the connection. Our primary focus is on torus bundles which we use to study a notion of Bakry-Émery Ricci flow as well as Ricci flow on circle bundles over Kähler-Einstein manifolds. The latter application gives us solutions to Ricci flows on Heisenberg groups and implicit solutions to Ricci flows on Berger 3-spheres and several other 3-dimensional manifolds.
A Kahler metric is said to be Bochner-Kahler if its Bochner curvature vanishes. This is a nontrivial condition when the complex dimension of the underlying manifold is at least 2. In this article it will be shown that, in a certain well-defined sense, the space of Bochner-Kahler metrics in complex dimension n has real dimension n+1 and a recipe for an explicit formula for any Bochner-Kahler metric will be given. It is shown that any Bochner-Kahler metric in complex dimension n has local (real) cohomogeneity at most n. The Bochner-Kahler metrics that can be `analytically continued' to a complet…
We study the scalar curvature of Kähler metrics that have cone singularities along a divisor, with a particular focus on certain specific classes of such metrics that enjoy some curvature estimates. Our main result is that, on the projective completion of a pluricanonical bundle over a product of Kähler--Einstein Fano manifolds with the second Betti number 1, momentum-constructed constant scalar curvature Kähler metrics with cone singularities along the $\infty$-section exist if and only if the log Futaki invariant vanishes on the fibrewise $\mathbb{C}^*$-action, giving a supporting evidence t…
We introduce a notion of a Kähler metric with constant weighted scalar curvature on a compact Kähler manifold $X$, depending on a fixed real torus $\mathbb{T}$ in the reduced group of automorphisms of $X$, and two smooth (weight) functions $\mathrm{v}>0$ and $\mathrm{w}$, defined on the momentum image (with respect to a given Kähler class $α$ on $X$) of $X$ in the dual Lie algebra of $\mathbb{T}$. A number of natural problems in Kähler geometry, such as the existence of extremal Kähler metrics and conformally Kähler, Einstein--Maxwell metrics, or prescribing the scalar curvature on a compact t…
The following results are proved: Theorem 1. A totally real semiparallel submanifold of constant curvature with parallel f-structure in the normal bundle of a Kähler manifold N is flat or a totally geodesic submanifold of N. Theorem 2. A totally real minimal semiparallel submanifold M with parallel f-structure in the normal bundle and of constant length of the second fundamental form (or equivalently of constant scalar curvature) of a complex space form N is totally geodesic in N or of positive scalar curvature. Moreover, if the scalar curvature of M vanishes, then M is flat. Theorem 3. A comp…
We relate a recently introduced non-local geometric invariant of compact strictly pseudoconvex Cauchy-Riemann (CR) manifolds of dimension 3 to various eta-invariants in CR geometry: on the one hand a renormalized eta-invariant appearing when considering a sequence of metrics converging to the CR structure by expanding the size of the Reeb field; on the other hand the eta-invariant of the middle degree operator of the contact complex. We then provide explicit computations for a class of examples: transverse circle invariant CR structures on Seifert manifolds. Applications are given to the probl…
In the present work the local form of certain Calabi-Yau metrics possessing a local Hamiltonian Killing vector is described in terms of a single non linear equation. The main assumptions are that the complex $(3,0)$-form is of the form $e^{ik}\widetildeΨ$, where $\widetildeΨ$ is preserved by the Killing vector, and that the space of the orbits of the Killing vector is, for fixed value of the momentum map coordinate, a complex 4-manifold, in such a way that the complex structure of the 4-manifold is part of the complex structure of the complex 3-fold. The link with the solution generating techn…
