A Kahler metric is said to be Bochner-Kahler if its Bochner curvature vanishes. This is a nontrivial condition when the complex dimension of the underlying manifold is at least 2. In this article it will be shown that, in a certain well-defined sense, the space of Bochner-Kahler metrics in complex dimension n has real dimension n+1 and a recipe for an explicit formula for any Bochner-Kahler metric will be given.
It is shown that any Bochner-Kahler metric in complex dimension n has local (real) cohomogeneity at most n. The Bochner-Kahler metrics that can be `analytically continued' to a complete metric, free of singularities, are identified. In particular, it is shown that the only compact Bochner-Kahler manifolds are the discrete quotients of the known symmetric examples. However, there are compact Bochner-Kahler orbifolds that are not locally symmetric. In fact, every weighted projective space carries a Bochner-Kahler metric.
The fundamental technique is to construct a canonical infinitesimal torus action on a Bochner-Kahler metric whose associated momentum mapping has the orbits of its symmetry pseudo-groupoid as fibers.
The main purpose of this article is to prove that there exist no proper $AK_3$-manifold of dimension $2n\ge 6$ with vanishing Tricerri-Vanhecke Bochner curvature tensor and constant scalar curvature.
The Bochner tensor is the Kähler analogue of the conformal Weyl tensor. In this article, we derive local (i.e., in a neighbourhood of almost every point) normal forms for a (pseudo-)Kähler manifold with vanishing Bochner tensor. The description is pined down to a new class of symmetric spaces which we describe in terms of their curvature operators. We also give a local description of weakly Bochner-flat metrics defined by the property that the Bochner tensor has vanishing divergence. Our results are based on the local normal forms for c-projectively equivalent metrics. As a by-product, we also…
B. Y. Chen establish the relationship between the Ricci curvature and the squared mean curvature for submanifolds of Riemannian space form with arbitrary codimension. In this paper, we generalize the relationship between the Ricci curvature and the squared norm of mean curvature vector for submanifolds of Bochner Kahler manifolds.
We construct a Kahler structure (which we call a generalised Kahler cone) on an open subset of the cone of a strongly pseudo-convex CR manifold endowed with a 1-parameter family of compatible Sasaki structures. We determine those generalised Kahler cones which are Bochner-flat and we study their local geometry. We prove that any Bochner-flat Kahler manifold of complex dimension bigger than two is locally isomorphic to a generalised Kahler cone.
We discuss algebraic properties for the symbols of geometric first order differential operators on almost Hermitian manifolds and Kähler manifolds. Through study on the universal enveloping algebra and higher Casimir elements, we know algebraic relations for the symbols like the Clifford algebra. From the relations, we have all the Bochner identities for the operators. As applications, we have vanishing theorems, the Bochner-Weitzenböck formula, and eigenvalue estimates for the operators on Kähler manifolds.
We study the construction and classification of weakly Bochner-flat (WBF) metrics (i.e., Kahler metrics with coclosed Bochner tensor) on compact complex manifolds. A Kahler metric is WBF if and only if its `normalized' Ricci form is a hamiltonian 2-form: such 2-forms were introduced and studied in previous papers in the series. It follows that WBF Kahler metrics are extremal. We construct many new examples of WBF metrics on projective bundles and obtain a classification of compact WBF Kahler 6-manifolds, extending work by the first three authors on weakly selfdual Kahler 4-manifolds. The const…
For the twistor spaces of the Bochner-Kähler manifold $M = H^l \times P^n$, systems of holomorphic coordinates are constructed. As an application of them, an explicit description of the moduli space of relative deformations of fibers of $M$'s twistor space is given.
We give a generalization of the Penrose transform on Hermitian manifolds with metrics locally conformally equivalent to Bochner-Kähler metrics. We also give an explicit formula for the inverse transform. This paper is a generalization of "The Twistor correspondence of the Dolbeault complex over $\C^n$" (dg-ga/9501004) and intended to supersede it.
Let $X$ be a compact Kähler space with klt singularities and vanishing first Chern class. We prove the Bochner principle for holomorphic tensors on the smooth locus of $X$: any such tensor is parallel with respect to the singular Ricci-flat metrics. As a consequence, after a finite quasi-étale cover $X$ splits off a complex torus of the maximum possible dimension. We then proceed to decompose the tangent sheaf of $X$ according to its holonomy representation. In particular, we classify those $X$ which have strongly stable tangent sheaf: up to quasi-étale covers, these are either irreducible Cal…
We prove that the normal metric contact pairs with orthogonal characteristic foliations, which are either Bochner flat or locally conformally flat, are locally isometric to the Hopf manifolds. As a corollary we obtain the classification of locally conformally flat and Bochner-flat non-Kähler Vaisman manifolds.
This report attempts a clean presentation of the theory of harmonic maps from complex and Kähler manifolds to Riemannian manifolds. After reviewing the theory of harmonic maps between Riemannian manifolds initiated by Eells--Sampson and the Bochner technique, we specialize to Kähler domains and introduce pluriharmonic maps. We prove a refined Bochner formula due to Siu and Sampson and its main consequences, such as the strong rigidity results of Siu. We also recount the applications to symmetric spaces of noncompact type and their relation to Mostow rigidity. Finally, we explain the key role o…
On Kahler manifolds with Ricci curvature bounded from below, we establish some theorems which are counterparts of some classical theorems in Riemannian geometry, for example, Bishop-Gromov's relative volume comparison, Bonnet-Meyers theorem, and Yau's gradient estimate for positive harmonic functions. The tool is a Bochner type formula reflecting the Kahler structure.
We apply the results from the article Cahen, Schwachhöfer: Special symplectic connections, to the case of Bochner-Kaehler metrics. We obtain a (local) classification of these based on the orbit types of the adjoint action in $su(n,1)$. The relation between Sasaki and Bochner-Kaehler metrics in cone and transveral metrics constructions is discussed. The connection of the special symplectic and Weyl connections is outlined. The duality between the Ricci-type and Bochner-Kaehler metrics is shown.
In this paper, we derive some $\partial\overline{\partial}$-Bochner formulas for holomorphic maps between Hermitian manifolds. As applications, we prove some Schwarz lemma type estimates, rigidity and degeneracy theorems. For instance, we show that there is no non-constant holomorphic map from a comapct Hermitian manifold with positive (resp. non-negative) $\ell$-second Ricci curvature to a Hermitian manifold with non-positive (resp. negative) real bisectional curvature. These theorems generalize the results \cite{Ni1,Ni2} proved recently by L. Ni on Kähler manifolds to Hermitian manifolds. We…
We derive some elliptic differential inequalities from the Weitzenböck formulas for the traceless Ricci tensor of a Kähler manifold with constant scalar curvature and the Bochner tensor of a Kähler-Einstein manifold respectively. Using elliptic estimates and maximum principle, some $L^p$ and $L^\infty $ pinching results are established to characterize Kähler-Einstein manifolds among Kähler manifolds with constant scalar curvature, and others are given to characterize complex space forms among Kähler-Einstein manifolds. Finally, these pinching results may be combined to characterize complex spa…
We introduce the notion of a hamiltonian 2-form on a Kaehler manifold and obtain a complete local classification. This notion appears to play a pivotal role in several aspects of Kaehler geometry. In particular, on any Kaehler manifold with co-closed Bochner tensor, the (suitably normalized) Ricci form is hamiltonian, and this leads to an explicit description of these Kaehler metrics, which we call weakly Bochner-flat. Hamiltonian 2-forms draw attention to a general construction of Kaehler metrics which interpolates between toric geometry and Calabi-like constructions of metrics on (projective…
This paper has been withdrawn in order to replace it by two separate submissions: 1. Hamiltonian 2-forms in Kahler geometry III: Extremal metrics and stability, math.DG/0511118; 2. Hamiltonian 2-forms in Kahler geometry IV: Weakly Bochner-flat Kahler manifolds, math.DG/0511119. As the titles indicate, the first paper covers the parts of this withdrawn submission concerning extremal Kahler metrics, while the second one deals the weakly Bochner-flat Kahler metrics. However, the material for the first paper has been substantially revised and extended with several new results. 1. The exposition ha…
We prove that a certain class of ALE spaces always has a Kahler conformal compactification, and moreover provide explicit formulas for the conformal factor and the Kahler potential of said compactification. We then apply this to give a new and simple construction of the canonical Bochner-Kähler metric on certain weighted projective spaces, and also to explicitly construct a family Kahler edge-cone metrics on $\mathbb{CP}^2$, with singular set $\mathbb{CP}^1$, having cone angles $2πβ$ for all $β>0$. We conclude by discussing how these results can be used to obtain certain well-known Einstein me…
Using as an underlying manifold an alpha-Sasakian manifold we introduce warped product Kaehler manifolds. We prove that if the underlying manifold is an alpha-Sasakian space form, then the corresponding Kaehler manifold is of quasi-constant holomorphic sectional curvatures with special distribution. Conversely, we prove that any Kaehler manifold of quasi-constant holomorphic sectional curvatures with special distribution locally has the structure of a warped product Kaehler manifold whose base is an alpha-Sasakian space form. Considering the scalar distribution generated by the scalar curvatur…
An index theorem for the anti-self-dual deformation complex on anti-self-dual orbifolds with cyclic quotient singularities is proved. We present two applications of this theorem. The first is to compute the dimension of the deformation space of the Calderbank-Singer scalar-flat Kahler toric ALE spaces. A corollary of this is that, except for the Eguchi-Hanson metric, all of these spaces admit non-toric anti-self-dual deformations, thus yielding many new examples of anti-self-dual ALE spaces. For our second application, we compute the dimension of the deformation space of the canonical Bochner-…
We study analytic properties of harmonic maps from Riemannian polyhedra into CAT($κ$) spaces for $κ\in\{0,1\}$. Locally, on each top-dimensional face of the domain, this amounts to studying harmonic maps from smooth domains into CAT($κ$) spaces. We compute a target variation formula that captures the curvature bound in the target, and use it to prove an $L^p$ Liouville-type theorem for harmonic maps from admissible polyhedra into convex CAT($κ$) spaces. Another consequence we derive from the target variation formula is the Eells-Sampson Bochner formula for CAT(1) targets.
In this note we study the Bochner formula on smooth metric measure spaces. We introduce weighted curvature conditions that imply vanishing of all Betti numbers.
A new derivation of the flow of metrics in the Type IIA flow is given. It is adapted to the formulation of the flow as a variant of a Laplacian flow, and it uses the projected Levi-Civita connection of the metrics themselves instead of their conformal rescalings.
We study harmonic maps from Riemannian manifolds into arbitrary non-positively curved and CAT(-1) metric spaces. First we discuss the domain variation formula with special emphasis on the error terms. Expanding higher order terms of this and other formulas in terms of curvature, we prove an analogue of the Eels-Sampson Bochner formula in this more general setting. In particular, we show that harmonic maps from spaces of non-negative Ricci curvature into non-positively curved spaces have subharmonic energy density. When the domain is compact the energy density is constant, and if the domain has…
Walczak formula is a very nice tool for understanding the geometry of a Riemannian manifold equipped with two orthogonal complementary distributions. Svensson [7] has shown that this formula simplifies to a Bochner type formula when we are dealing with Kähler manifolds and holomorphic (integrable) distributions. Here, with adapted notions as invariant distribution and (contact) holomorphicity, we derive the special form of the Walczack formula on a Sasaki manifold. Then we apply a standard Bochner argument in the study of (contact) holomorphic distributions. Some other applications for (pseudo…
We prove the equivalence of the curvature-dimension bounds of Lott-Sturm-Villani (via entropy and optimal transport) and of Bakry--Émery (via energy and Γ_2$-calculus) in complete generality for infinitesimally Hilbertian metric measure spaces. In particular, we establish the full Bochner inequality on such metric measure spaces. Moreover, we deduce new contraction bounds for the heat flow on Riemannian manifolds and on mms in terms of the $L^2$-Wasserstein distance.
In a recent paper Donaldson explains how to use an older construction of Joyce to obtain four dimensional local models for scalar-flat Kahler metrics with a 2-torus symmetry. Using this idea, he recovers and generalizes the Taub-NUT metric by including it in a new family of complete scalar-flat toric Kahler metrics. In this paper we generalize Donaldson's method and construct complete scalar-flat toric Kahler metrics on any symplectic toric 4-manifold with "strictly unbounded" moment polygon. These include the asymptotic locally Euclidean scalar-flat Kahler metrics previously constructed by Ca…

The very definition of an Einstein metric implies that all its geometry is encoded in the Weyl tensor. With this in mind, in this paper we derive higher-order Bochner type formulas for the Weyl tensor on a four dimensional Einstein manifold. In particular, we prove a second Bochner type formula which, formally, extends to the covariant derivative level the classical one for the Weyl tensor obtained by Derdzinski in 1983. As a consequence, we deduce some integral identities involving the Weyl tensor and its derivatives on a compact four dimensional Einstein manifold.
We consider the renormalized Bochner Laplacian acting on tensor powers of a positive line bundle on a compact symplectic manifold. We derive an explicit local formula for the spectral density function in terms of coefficients of the Riemannian metric and symplectic form.
Gradients are natural first order differential operators depending on Riemannian metrics. The principal symbols of them are related to the enveloping algebra and higher Casimir elements. We give certain relations in the enveloping algebra, which induce not only identities for higher Casimir elements but also all Bochner-Weitzenböck formulas for gradients. As applications, we give some vanishing theorems.
We prove a Bochner type vanishing theorem for compact complex manifolds $Y$ in Fujiki class $\mathcal C$, with vanishing first Chern class, that admit a cohomology class $[α] \in H^{1,1}(Y,\mathbb R)$ which is numerically effective (nef) and has positive self-intersection (meaning $\int_Y α^n \,>\, 0$, where $n\,=\,\dim_{\mathbb C} Y$). Using it, we prove that all holomorphic geometric structures of affine type on such a manifold $Y$ are locally homogeneous on a non-empty Zariski open subset. Consequently, if the geometric structure is rigid in the sense of Gromov, then the fundamental group o…
Let $V\subset \mathbb{C}\mathbb{P}^n$ be an irreducible complex projective variety of complex dimension $v$ and let $g$ be the Kähler metric on $\reg(V)$, the regular part of $V$, induced by the Fubini Study metric of $\mathbb{C}\mathbb{P}^n$. In this setting Li and Tian proved that $W^{1,2}_0(\reg(V),g)=W^{1,2}(\reg(V),g)$, that the natural inclusion $W^{1,2}(\reg(V),g)\hookrightarrow L^2(\reg(V),g)$ is a compact operator and that the heat operator associated to the Friedrich extension of the scalar Laplacian $Δ_0:C^{\infty}_c(\reg(V))\rightarrow C^{\infty}_c(\reg(V))$, that is $e^{-tΔ_0^{\ma…
In this paper we will first show some Kollar-Enoki type injectivity theorems on compact Kahler manifolds, by using the Hodge theory, the Bochner- Kodaira-Nakano identity and the analytic method provided by O. Fujino and S. Matsumura in [15, 25, 36, 39]. We have some straightforward corollaries. In particular, we will show that our main injectivity theorem implies several Nadel type vanishing theorems on smooth projective manifolds. Second, by applying the transcendental method, especially the Demailly-Peternell-Schneider equisingular approximation theorem and the Hormander L2 estimates, we wil…
By a special symplectic connection we mean a torsion free connection which is either the Levi-Civita connection of a Bochner-Kähler metric of arbitrary signature, a Bochner-bi-Lagrangian connection, a connection of Ricci type or a connection with special symplectic holonomy. A manifold or orbifold with such a connection is called special symplectic. We show that the symplectic reduction of (an open cell of) a parabolic contact manifold by a symmetry vector field is special symplectic in a canonical way. Moreover, we show that any special symplectic manifold or orbifold is locally equivalent to…
In this note we present, for every $n \geq 4$, a non-Kähler compact complex manifold $X$ of complex dimension $n$ admitting a balanced metric and an astheno-Kähler metric which is in addition $k$-th Gauduchon for any $1\leq k\leq n-1$.
The notion of coupled Kähler-Einstein metrics was introduced recently by Hultgren-WittNyström. In this paper we discuss deformation of a coupled Kähler-Einstein metrics on a Fano manifold. In particular we obtain a necessary and sufficient condition for a coupled Kähler-Einstein metric to be deformed to another coupled Kähler-Einstein metric for a Fano manifold admitting non-trivial holomorphic vector fields. In addition we also discuss deformation for a coupled Käher-Einstein metric on a Fano manifold when the complex structure varies.
There is considered a connection with skew symmetric torsion on a quasi-Kähler manifold with Norden metric. Some necessary and sufficient conditions are derived for the corresponding curvature tensor to be Kählerian. In the case when this tensor is Kählerian, some relations are obtained between its scalar curvature and the scalar curvature of other curvature tensors. Conditions are given for the considered manifolds to be isotropic-Kähler.
It is known that a compact symplectic manifold endowed with a prequantum line bundle can be embedded in the projective space generated by the eigensections of low energy of the Bochner Laplacian acting on high $p$-tensor powers of the prequantum line bundle. We show that the Fubini-Study forms induced by these embeddings converge at speed rate $1/p^{2}$ to the symplectic form. This result implies the generalization to the almost-Kähler case of the lower bounds on the Calabi functional given by Donaldson for Kähler manifolds, as shown by Lejmi and Keller.
We focus on the classical open problem of the classification of Kähler-Einstein manifolds that can be Kähler immersed into a complex projective space endowed with the Fubini-Study metric. In particular, we will deal with such problem in the special case of Kähler- Einstein metrics admitting symmetries of rotational type. This leads to certain integrable distributions allowing a classification of such metrics.
Based on Donaldson's method, we prove that, for an integral Kahler class, when there is a Kahler metric of constant scalar curvature, then it minimizes the K-energy. We do not assume that the automorphism group is discrete.
For projective varieties with definite first Chern class we have one type of canonical metric which is called Kähler-Einstein metric. But for varieties with an intermidiate Kodaira dimension we can have several different types of canonical metrics. In this paper we introduce a new notion of canonical metric for varieties with an intermidiate Kodaira dimension. We highlight that to get $C^\infty$-solution of CMA equation of relative Kähler Einstein metric we need Song-Tian-Tsuji measure (which has minimal singularities with respect to other relative volume forms) be $C^\infty$-smooth and specia…
On a Fano manifold, we prove that the Kahler-Ricci flow starting from a Kahler metric in the anti-canonical class which is sufficiently close to a Kahler-Einstein metric must converge in a polynomial rate to a Kahler-Einstein metric. The convergence can not happen in general if we study the flow on the level of Kahler potentials. Instead we exploit the interpretation of the Ricci flow as the gradient flow of Perelman's μfunctional. This involves modifying the Ricci flow by a canonical family of gauges. In particular, the complex structure of the limit could be different in general. The main te…
We show the existence of strictly almost-Kahler anti-self-dual metrics on certain 4-manifolds by deforming scalar-flat Kahler metrics. On the other hand, we prove the non-existence of such metrics on certain other 4-manifolds by means of Seiberg-Witten theory. In the process, we provide a simple new proof of the fact that any almost-Kahler anti-self-dual 4-manifold must have a non-trivial Seiberg-Witten invariant.
We prove that if a compact smooth polarized complex manifold admits in the corresponding Hodge Kähler class a conformally Kähler, Einstein--Maxwell metric, or more generally, a Kähler metric of constant $(ξ, a, p)$-scalar curvature, then this metric minimizes the $(ξ,a,p)$-Mabuchi functional. Our method of proof extends the approach introduced by Donaldson and developed by Li and Sano--Tipler, via finite dimensional approximations and generalized balanced metrics. As an application of our result and the recent construction of Koca--Tønnesen-Friedman, we describe the Kähler classes on a geometr…
We classify Kähler-Einstein manifolds which admit a Kähler immersion into a finite dimensional complex projective space endowed with the Fubini-Study metric, whose codimention is not greater than 3 and whose metric is rotation invariant.
In this paper we show that on a Fano manifold the convergence of the Kähler-Ricci flow to a Kähler-Einstein metric follows from the integrability of the $L^2$ norm of the Ricci potential for positive time.
Given a path of almost-Kähler metrics compatible with a fixed symplectic form on a compact 4-manifold such that at time zero the almost-Kähler metric is an extremal Kähler one, we prove, for a short time and under a certain hypothesis, the existence of a smooth family of extremal almost-Kähler metrics compatible with the same symplectic form, such that at each time the induced almost-complex structure is diffeomorphic to the one induced by the path.
We consider the space of Kahler metrics as a Riemannian submanifold of the space of Riemannian metrics, and study the associated submanifold geometry. In particular, we show that the intrinsic and extrinsic distance functions are equivalent. We also determine the metric completion of the space of Kahler metrics, making contact with recent generalizations of the Calabi-Yau Theorem due to Dinew, Guedj-Zeriahi, and Kolodziej. As an application, we obtain a new analytic stability criterion for the existence of a Kahler-Einstein metric on a Fano manifold in terms of the Ricci flow and the distance …
We show that if a Fano manifold $M$ is K-stable with respect to special degenerations equivariant under a compact group of automorphisms, then $M$ admits a Kähler-Einstein metric. This is a strengthening of the solution of the Yau-Tian-Donaldson conjecture for Fano manifolds by Chen-Donaldson-Sun, and can be used to obtain new examples of Kähler-Einstein manifolds. We also give analogous results for twisted Kähler-Einstein metrics and Kahler-Ricci solitons.
We give a complete criterion for the existence of generalized Kähler Einstein metrics on toric Fano manifolds from view points of a uniform stability in a sense of GIT and the properness of a functional on the space of Kähler metrics.
We give a criterion for the existence of a Kähler-Einstein metric on a Fano manifold $M$ in terms of the higher algebraic alpha-invariants $α_{m,k}(M)$.
We establish an equivalence between conformally Einstein--Maxwell Kahler 4-manifolds (recently studied in many works) and extremal Kahler 4-manifolds (in the sense of Calabi) with nowhere vanishing scalar curvature. The corresponding pairs of Kahler metrics arise as transversal Kahler structures of Sasaki metrics compatible with the same CR structure and having commuting Sasaki--Reeb vector fields. This correspondence extends to higher dimensions using the notion of a weighted extremal Kahler metric, illuminating and uniting several explicit constructions in Kahler and Sasaki geometry. It also…
We give criterions for the existence of toric conical Kahler-Einstein and Kahler-Ricci soliton metrics on any toric manifold in relation to the greatest Ricci and Bakry-Emery-Ricci lower bound. We also show that any two toric manifolds with the same dimension can be joined by a continuous path of toric manifolds with conical Kahler-Einstein metrics in the Gromov-Hausdorff topology.
Using spin$^c$ structure we prove that Kähler-Einstein metrics with nonpositive scalar curvature are stable (in the direction of changes in conformal structures) as the critical points of the total scalar curvature functional. Moreover if all infinitesimal complex deformation of the complex structure are integrable, then the Kähler-Einstein metric is a local maximal of the Yamabe invariant, and its volume is a local minimum among all metrics with scalar curvature bigger or equal to the scalar curvature of the Kähler-Einstein metric.
