Using spin$^c$ structure we prove that Kähler-Einstein metrics with nonpositive scalar curvature are stable (in the direction of changes in conformal structures) as the critical points of the total scalar curvature functional. Moreover if all infinitesimal complex deformation of the complex structure are integrable, then the Kähler-Einstein metric is a local maximal of the Yamabe invariant, and its volume is a local minimum among all metrics with scalar curvature bigger or equal to the scalar curvature of the Kähler-Einstein metric.
The object of the present paper is to study some properties of para-K$ä$hler manifold whose metric is conformal Einstein soliton. We have studied some certain curvature properties of para-K$ä$hler manifold admitting conformal Einstein soliton.
The aim of this thesis is to construct new examples of compact orbifolds $\mathcal{O}^4(Θ)$ which admit a self dual Einstein (SDE) metric of positive scalar curvature $s>0$, with a one-dimensional group of isometries. In particular we want to prove that these examples are different from those described by Boyer, Galicki and Piccinni in \emph{$3-$Sasakian geometry, nilpotents orbits, and exeptional quotients}. We construct explicitly our new examples as quaternion-K$\ddot{\mathrm{a}}$hler reductions of the quaternion K$\ddot{\mathrm{a}}$hler Grassmannian $Gr_4(\mathbb{R}^8)$ by an isometric act…
We describe and construct here pseudo-Hermitian structures $θ$ without torsion (i.e. with transversal symmetry) whose Webster-Ricci curvature tensor is a constant multiple of the exterior differential $dθ$. We call these structures pseudo-Hermitian Einstein and our result states that they all can be derived locally from K{ä}hler-Einstein metrics. Moreover, we discuss the corresponding Fefferman metrics of the pseudo-Hermitian Einstein structures. These Fefferman metrics are never Einstein, but they are locally always conformally Einstein.
We establish a stability result for elliptic and parabolic complex Monge-Amp{è}re equations on compact K{ä}hler manifolds, which applies in particular to the K{ä}hler-Ricci flow. Dedicated to Jean-Pierre Demailly on the occasion of his 60th birthday.
We obtain a necessary and sufficient condition of existence of a K{ä}hler-Einstein metric on a $G\times G$-equivariant Fano compactification of a complex connected reductive group $G$ in terms of the associated polytope. This condition is not equivalent to the vanishing of the Futaki invariant. The proof relies on the continuity method and its translation into a real Monge-Amp{è}re equation, using the invariance under the action of a maximal compact subgroup $K\times K$.
Given a convex body $K \subset \mathbb{R}^n$ with the barycenter at the origin we consider the corresponding K{ä}hler-Einstein equation $e^{-Φ} = \det D^2 Φ$. If $K$ is a simplex, then the Ricci tensor of the Hessian metric $D^2 Φ$ is constant and equals $\frac{n-1}{4(n+1)}$. We conjecture that the Ricci tensor of $D^2 Φ$ for arbitrary $K$ is uniformly bounded by $\frac{n-1}{4(n+1)}$ and verify this conjecture in the two-dimensional case. The general case remains open.
We study the linear stability of Einstein metrics of Riemannian submersion type. First, we derive a general instability condition for such Einstein metrics and provide some applications. Then we study instability arising from Riemannian product structures on the base. As an application, we estimate the coindex of the Einstein metrics constructed in \cite{WZ90} and \cite{Wan92}. Finally, we investigate more closely the linear stability of Einstein metrics from circle bundle constructions and obtain a rigidity result for linearly stable Einstein metrics of this type.
We provide a sufficient condition for the local stability of closed Einstein manifolds of positive Ricci curvature under the Ricci iteration in terms of the spectrum of the Lichnerowicz Laplacian acting on divergence-free tensor fields. We use this result to consider the stability of several Einstein manifolds under the Ricci iteration, including symmetric spaces of compact type.
We give a complete criterion for the existence of generalized Kähler Einstein metrics on toric Fano manifolds from view points of a uniform stability in a sense of GIT and the properness of a functional on the space of Kähler metrics.
We prove the linear stability with respect to the Einstein-Hilbert action of the symmetric spaces $\mathrm{SU}(n)$, $n\geq3$, and $E_6/F_4$. Combined with earlier results, this resolves the stability problem for irreducible symmetric spaces of compact type.
Conformally Kähler, Einstein-Maxwell metrics and $f$-extremal metrics are generalization of canonical metrics in Kähler geometry. We introduce uniform K-stability for toric Kähler manifolds, and show that uniform K-stability is necessary condition for the existence of $f$-extremal metrics on toric manifolds. Furthermore, we show that uniform K-stability is equivalent to properness of relative K-energy.
It is a well known fact that, if $Σ$ is an Einstein hypersurface with positive scalar curvature, then it is a round sphere. We give a stable version of this result showing that if a hypersurface is almost Einstein in a $L^p$-sense, then it is $W^{2, \, p}$ - close to the round sphere. The result is given in a quantitative way.
Let g be a G-invariant Einstein metric on a compact homogeneous space M=G/K. We use a formula for the Lichnerowicz Laplacian of g at G-invariant TT-tensors to study the stability type of g as a critical point of the scalar curvature function. The case when g is naturally reductive is studied in special detail.
Leon Green obtained remarkable rigidity results for manifolds of positive scalar curvature with large conjugate radius and/or injectivity radius. Using $C^{k,α}$ convergence techniques, we prove several differentiable stability and sphere theorem versions of these results and apply those also to the study of Einstein manifolds.
In this paper, we study Riemannian functionals defined by $L^2$-norms of Ricci curvature, scalar curvature, Weyl curvature, and Riemannian curvature. We try to understand stability of their critical points that are products of Einstein metrics. In particular, we prove that the product of a spherical space form and a compact hyperbolic manifold is unstable for some quadratic functionals if the first eigenvalue of the Laplacian of the hyperbolic manifold is sufficiently small.
In this expository article we review the problem of finding Einstein metrics on compact Kähler manifolds and Sasaki manifolds. In the former half of this article we see that, in the Kähler case, the problem fits better with the notion of stability in Geometric Invariant Theory if we extend the problem to that of finding extremal Kähler metrics or constant scalar curvature Kähler (cscK) metrics. In the latter half of this paper we see that most of ideas in Kähler geometry extend to Sasaki geometry as transverse Kähler geometry. We also summarize recent results about the existence of toric Sasak…
We show that a polarized affine variety admits a Ricci flat Kähler cone metric, if and only if it is K-stable. This generalizes Chen-Donaldson-Sun's solution of the Yau-Tian-Donaldson conjecture to Kähler cones, or equivalently, Sasakian manifolds. As an application we show that the five-sphere admits infinitely many families of Sasaki-Einstein metrics.
On a 4-dimensional compact symplectic manifold, we consider a smooth family of compatible almost-complex structures such that at time zero the induced metric is Hermite-Einstein almost-Kähler metric with zero or negative Hermitian scalar curvature. We prove, under certain hypothesis, the existence of a smooth family of compatible almost-complex structures, diffeomorphic at each time to the initial family, and inducing constant Hermitian scalar curvature metrics.
Riemannian manifolds with non-zero Killing spinors are Einstein manifolds. Klaus Kröncke proved that all complete Riemannian manifolds with imaginary Killing spinors are (linearly) strictly stable in \cite{Kro15}. In this paper, we obtain a new proof for this stability result by using a Bochner type formula in \cite{DWW05} and \cite{Wan91}. Moreover, existence of real Killing spinors is closely related to the Sasaki-Einstein structure. A regular Sasaki-Einstein manifold is essentially the total space of a certain principal $S^{1}$-bundle over a Kähler-Einstein manifold. We prove that if the ba…
Let $P$ be a principal U(1)-bundle over a closed manifold $M$. On $P$, one can define a modified version of the Ricci flow called the Ricci Yang-Mills flow, due to these equations being a coupling of Ricci flow and the Yang-Mills heat flow. We use maximal regularity theory and ideas of Simonett concerning the asymptotic behavior of abstract quasilinear parabolic partial differential equations to study the stability of the volume-normalized Ricci Yang-Mills flow at Einstein Yang-Mills metrics in dimension two. In certain cases, we show the presence of a center manifold of fixed points, while in…
An explicit seminorm $||f||_{#}$ on the vector space of Chow vectors of projective varieties is introduced, and shown to be a generalized Mabuchi energy functional for Chow varieties. The singularities of the Chow varieties give rise to currents supported on their singular loci, while the regular parts are shown to reproduce the Mabuchi energy functional of the corresponding projective variety. Thus the boundedness from below of the Mabuchi functional, and hence the existence of Kähler-Einstein metrics, is related to the behavior of the current $[Y_s]$ and the seminorm $||f||_{#}$ along the or…
In this article we study the stability problem for the Einstein-Hilbert functional on compact symmetric spaces following and completing the seminal work of Koiso on the subject. We classify in detail the irreducible representations of simple Lie algebras with Casimir eigenvalue less than the Casimir eigenvalue of the adjoint representation, and use this information to prove the stability of the Einstein metrics on both the quaternionic and Cayley projective plane. Moreover we prove that the Einstein metrics on quaternionic Grassmannians different from projective spaces are unstable.
We define a new notion of "b-stability" for a polarised algebraic variety, adapted to the existence problem for Kahler-Einstein metrics on Fano manifolds.
We prove dynamical stability and instability theorems for compact Einstein metrics under the Ricci flow. We give a nearly complete charactarization of dynamical stability and instability in terms of the conformal Yamabe invariant and the Laplace spectrum. In particular, we prove dynamical stability of some classes of Einstein manifolds for which it was previously not known. Additionally, we show that the complex projective space with the Fubini-Study metric is surprisingly dynamically unstable.
A pseudo-Einstein contact form plays a crucial role in defining some global invariants of closed strictly pseudoconvex CR manifolds. In this paper, we prove that the existence of a pseudo-Einstein contact form is preserved under deformations as a real hypersurface in a fixed complex manifold of complex dimension at least three.
Back in 1985, Wang and Ziller obtained a complete classification of all homogeneous spaces of compact simple Lie groups on which the standard or Killing metric is Einstein. The list consists, beyond isotropy irreducible spaces, of 12 infinite families (two of them are actually conceptual constructions) and 22 isolated examples. We study in this paper the nature of each of these Einstein metrics as a critical point of the scalar curvature functional.
We prove the existence of Kahler-Einstein metric on a K-stable Fano manifold using the recent compactness result on Kahler-Ricci flows. The key ingredient is an algebro-geometric description of the asymptotic behavior of Kahler-Ricci flow on Fano manifolds. This is in turn based on a general finite dimensional discussion, which is interesting in its own and could potentially apply to other problems. As one application, we relate the asymptotics of the Calabi flow on a polarized Kahler manifold to K-stability assuming bounds on geometry.
We adapt the notions of stability of holomorphic vector bundles in the sense of Mumford-Takemoto and Hermitian-Einstein metrics in holomorphic vector bundles for canonically polarized framed manifolds, i.e. compact complex manifolds X together with a smooth divisor D such that K_X \otimes [D] is ample. It turns out that the degree of a torsion-free coherent sheaf on X with respect to the polarization K_X \otimes [D] coincides with the degree with respect to the complete Kähler-Einstein metric g_{X \setminus D} on X \setminus D. For stable holomorphic vector bundles, we prove the existence of a…
In this new version, we correct some typos. For the readers' convenience, we also added some footnotes and more details for certain lemmas and theorems.
Certain curvature conditions for stability of Einstein manifolds with respect to the Einstein-Hilbert action are given. These conditions are given in terms of quantities involving the Weyl tensor and the Bochner tensor. In dimension six, a stability criterion involving the Euler characteristic is given.
We introduce a new effective stability named "divisorial stability" for Fano manifolds which is weaker than K-stability and is stronger than slope stability along divisors. We show that we can test divisorial stability via the volume function. As a corollary, we prove that the first coordinate of the barycenter of the Okounkov body of the anticanonical divisor is not bigger than one for any Kähler-Einstein Fano manifold. In particular, for toric Fano manifolds, the existence of Kähler-Einstein metrics is equivalent to divisorial semistability. Moreover, we find many non-Kähler-Einstein Fano ma…
We consider dynamical stability for a modified Ricci flow equation whose stationary solutions include Einstein and Ricci soliton metrics. Our focus is on homogeneous metrics on non-compact manifolds. Following the program of Guenther, Isenberg, and Knopf, we define a class of weighted little Hölder spaces with certain interpolation properties that allow the use of maximal regularity theory and the application of a stability theorem of Simonett. With this, we derive two stability theorems, one for a class of Einstein metrics and one for a class of non-Einstein Ricci solitons. Using linear stabi…
For any $G$-invariant metric on a compact homogeneous space $M=G/K$, we give a formula for the Lichnerowicz Laplacian restricted to the space of all $G$-invariant symmetric $2$-tensors in terms of the structural constants of $G/K$. As an application, we compute the $G$-invariant spectrum of the Lichnerowicz Laplacian for all the Einstein metrics on most generalized Wallach spaces and any flag manifold with $b_2(M)=1$. This allows to deduce the $G$-stability and critical point types of each of such Einstein metrics as a critical point of the scalar curvature functional.
Let $X$ be any $\mathbb{Q}$-Fano variety and $\mathrm{Aut}(X)_0$ be the identity component of the automorphism group of $X$. Let $\mathbb{G}$ be a connected reductive subgroup of $\mathrm{Aut}(X)_0$ that contains a maximal torus of $\mathrm{Aut}(X)_0$. We prove that $X$ admits a Kähler-Einstein metric if and only if $X$ is $\mathbb{G}$-uniformly K-stable. This proves a version of Yau-Tian-Donaldson conjecture for arbitrary singular Fano varieties. A key new ingredient is a valuative criterion for $\mathbb{G}$-uniform K-stability.
We present classical and recent results on Kähler-Einstein metrics on compact complex manifolds, focusing on existence, obstructions and relations to algebraic geometric notions of stability (K-stability). These are the notes for the SMI course "Kähler-Einstein metrics" given by C.S. in Cortona (Italy), May 2017. The material is not intended to be original.
We prove nonlinear stability for a large class of solutions to the Einstein equations with a positive cosmological constant and compact spatial topology in arbitrary dimensions, where the spatial metric is Einstein with either positive or negative Einstein constant. The proof uses the CMC Einstein flow and stability follows by an energy argument. We prove in addition that the development of non-CMC initial data close to the background contains a CMC hypersurface, which in turn implies that stability holds for arbitrary perturbations. Furthermore, we construct a one-parameter family of initial …
Minkowski space is shown to be globally stable as a solution to the Einstein--Vlasov system in the case when all particles have zero mass. The proof proceeds by showing that the matter must be supported in the "wave zone", and then proving a small data semi-global existence result for the characteristic initial value problem for the massless Einstein--Vlasov system in this region. This relies on weighted estimates for the solution which, for the Vlasov part, are obtained by introducing the Sasaki metric on the mass shell and estimating Jacobi fields with respect to this metric by geometric qua…
Two recent articles \cite{ashtekar2015general, moncrief2019could} suggested an interesting dynamical mechanism within the framework of the vacuum Einstein flow (or Einstein-$Λ$ flow if a positive cosmological constant $Λ$ is included) which suggests that many closed (compact without boundary) manifolds that do not support homogeneous and isotropic metrics \textit{at all} will nevertheless evolve to be asymptotically compatible with the observed approximate homogeneity and isotropy of the physical universe. These studies however did not include matter sources. Therefore the aim of the present s…
