We discuss algebraic properties for the symbols of geometric first order differential operators on almost Hermitian manifolds and Kähler manifolds. Through study on the universal enveloping algebra and higher Casimir elements, we know algebraic relations for the symbols like the Clifford algebra. From the relations, we have all the Bochner identities for the operators. As applications, we have vanishing theorems, the Bochner-Weitzenböck formula, and eigenvalue estimates for the operators on Kähler manifolds.
Gradients are natural first order differential operators depending on Riemannian metrics. The principal symbols of them are related to the enveloping algebra and higher Casimir elements. We give certain relations in the enveloping algebra, which induce not only identities for higher Casimir elements but also all Bochner-Weitzenböck formulas for gradients. As applications, we give some vanishing theorems.
In this paper, we prove that complete gradient steady Kähler-Ricci solitons with harmonic Bochner tensor are necessarily Kähler-Ricci flat, i.e., Calabi-Yau, and that complete gradient shrinking (or expanding) Kähler-Ricci solitons with harmonic Bochner tensor must be isometric to a quotient of $N^k\times \mathbb{C}^{n-k}$, where $N$ is a Kähler-Einstein manifold with positive (or negative) scalar curvature.
The very definition of an Einstein metric implies that all its geometry is encoded in the Weyl tensor. With this in mind, in this paper we derive higher-order Bochner type formulas for the Weyl tensor on a four dimensional Einstein manifold. In particular, we prove a second Bochner type formula which, formally, extends to the covariant derivative level the classical one for the Weyl tensor obtained by Derdzinski in 1983. As a consequence, we deduce some integral identities involving the Weyl tensor and its derivatives on a compact four dimensional Einstein manifold.
As a consequence of the Bochner formula for the Bismut connection acting on gradients, we show sharp universal Poincaré and log-Sobolev inequalities along solutions to generalized Ricci flow. Using the two-form potential we define a twisted connection on spacetime which determines an adapted Brownian motion on the frame bundle, yielding an adapted Malliavin gradient on path space. We show a Bochner formula for this operator, leading to characterizations of generalized Ricci flow in terms of universal Poincaré and log-Sobolev type inequalities for the associated Malliavin gradient and Ornstein-…
We prove the Bochner-Weitzenböck formula for the (nonlinear) Laplacian on general Finsler manifolds and derive Li-Yau type gradient estimates as well as parabolic Harnack inequalities. Moreover, we deduce Bakry-Émery gradient estimates. All these estimates depend on lower bounds for the weighted flag Ricci tensor.
In this paper, we establish a Bochner type formula on Alexandrov spaces with Ricci curvature bounded below. Yau's gradient estimate for harmonic functions is also obtained on Alexandrov spaces.
This paper derives new identities for the Weyl tensor on a gradient Ricci soliton, particularly in dimension four. First, we prove a Bochner-Weitzenböck type formula for the norm of the self-dual Weyl tensor and discuss its applications, including connections between geometry and topology. In the second part, we are concerned with the interaction of different components of Riemannian curvature and (gradient and Hessian of) the soliton potential function. The Weyl tensor arises naturally in these investigations. Applications here are rigidity results.
We prove certain gradient and eigenvalue estimates, as well as the heat kernel estimates, for the Hodge Laplacian on $(m,0)$ forms, i.e., sections of the canonical bundle of Kähler manifolds, where $m$ is the complex dimension of the manifold. Instead of the usual dependence on curvature tensor, our condition depends only on the Ricci curvature bound. The proof is based on a new Bochner type formula for the gradient of $(m, 0)$ forms, which involves only the Ricci curvature and the gradient of the scalar curvature.
We prove the classical Nakano vanishing theorem with Hörmander $L^2$-estimates on a compact Kähler manifold using Siu's so called $\partial\dbar$-Bochner-Kodaira method, thereby avoiding the Kähler identities completely. We then introduce singular hermitian metrics on holomorphic vector bundles, and proceed to prove a vanishing theorem of Demailly-Nadel type for these in the special case where the base manifold is a Riemann surface.
By using Bochner technique and gradient estimate, we give the lower bound estimates of the first eigenvalue of Finsler-Laplacian on Finsler manifolds. These results generalize the corresponding famous theorems in the Riemannian geometry.
We show that the configuration space over a manifold M inherits many curvature properties of the manifold. For instance, we show that a lower Ricci curvature bound on M implies for the configuration space a lower Ricci curvature bound in the sense of Lott-Sturm-Villani, the Bochner inequality, gradient estimates and Wasserstein contraction. Moreover, we show that the heat flow on the configuration space, or the infinite independent particle process, can be identified as the gradient flow of the entropy.
In this paper, we study the following conjecture of Hamilton: Any compact gradient shrinking Ricci soliton with positive curvature operator must be Einstein. We first derive several identities. Then we show that the conjecture is true under an additional condition. Furthermore, such a soliton must be of constant curvature.
We extend the groundbreaking results of Gromov and Lawson on positive scalar curvature and the Dirac operator on complete Riemannian manifolds to Dirac operators defined along the leaves of foliations of non-compact complete Riemannian manifolds which admit invariant transverse measures. We prove a relative measured index theorem for pairs of such manifolds, foliations and operators, which are identified off compact subsets of the manifolds. We assume that the spectral projections of the leafwise operators for some interval $[0,ε]$, $ε> 0$, have finite dimensional images when paired with the i…
