In this paper, we deduce a Bochner-type identity for compact gradient Einstein-type manifolds with boundary. As consequence, we are able to show a rigidity result for Einstein-type manifolds assuming the parallel Ricci curvature condition. Moreover, we provide a condition on the norm of the gradient of the potential function in order to classify such structures.
Einstein hypersurfaces are ``very rare" in rank-one symmetric spaces. Damek-Ricci spaces may be viewed as the closest and the most natural generalisations of noncompact rank-one symmetric spaces. We prove that no Damek-Ricci space admits an Einstein hypersurface.
We establish variational formulas for Ricci upper and lower bounds, as well as a derivative formula for the Ricci curvature. As applications, constant curvature manifolds, Einstein manifolds and Ricci parallel manifolds are identified, respectively, with different integral-differential formulas and semigroup inequalities. Moreover, by using derivative and Hessian formulas for the heat semigroup $P_t$ developed from stochastic analysis, explicit Hessian estimates are derived on Einstein and Ricci parallel manifolds.
We provide a sufficient condition for the local stability of closed Einstein manifolds of positive Ricci curvature under the Ricci iteration in terms of the spectrum of the Lichnerowicz Laplacian acting on divergence-free tensor fields. We use this result to consider the stability of several Einstein manifolds under the Ricci iteration, including symmetric spaces of compact type.
In this paper we consider connections between Ricci solitons and Einstein metrics on homogeneous spaces. We show that a semi-algebraic Ricci soliton admits an Einstein one-dimensional extension if the soliton derivation can be chosen to be normal. Using our previous work on warped product Einstein metrics, we show that every normal semi-algebraic Ricci soliton also admits a $k$-dimensional Einstein extension for any $k\geq 2$. We also prove converse theorems for these constructions and some geometric and topological structure results for homogeneous warped product Einstein metrics. In the appe…
For an asymptotically Poincare-Einstein manifold with a lower Ricci curvature bound, we establish a sharp inequality relating the type II Yamabe invariant of the interior and the Yamabe invariant of its conformal infinity
We construct gradient Kähler-Ricci solitons on Ricci-flat Kähler cone manifolds and on line bundles over toric Fano manifolds. Certain shrinking and expanding solitons are pasted together to form eternal solutions of the Ricci flow. The method we employ is the Calabi ansatz over Sasaki-Einstein manifolds, and the results generalize constructions of Cao and Feldman-Ilmanen-Knopf.
In this paper the notion of Ricci $ρ$-soliton as a generalization of Ricci soliton is defined. We are motivated by the Ricci-Bourguignon flow to define this concept. We show that if a 3- dimensional almost Kenmotsu Einstein manifold $M$ be a $ρ$-soliton, then $M$ is a Kenmotsu manifold of constant sectional curvature $-1$ and the $ρ$-soliton is expanding, with $λ=2$.
In this article, we provide some volume growth estimates for complete noncompact gradient Ricci solitons and quasi-Einstein manifolds similar to the classical results by Bishop, Calabi and Yau for complete Riemannian manifolds with nonnegative Ricci curvature. We prove a sharp volume growth estimate for complete noncompact gradient shrinking Ricci soliton. Moreover, we provide upper bound volume growth estimates for complete noncompact quasi-Einstein manifolds with $λ=0.$ In addition, we prove that geodesic balls of complete noncompact quasi-Einstein manifolds with $λ<0$ and $μ\leq 0$ have at …
We construct new homogeneous Einstein spaces with negative Ricci curvature in two ways: First, we give a method for classifying and constructing a class of rank one Einstein solvmanifolds whose derived algebras are two-step nilpotent. As an application, we describe an explicit continuous family of ten-dimensional Einstein manifolds with a two-dimensional parameter space, including a continuous subfamily of manifolds with negative sectional curvature. Secondly, we obtain new examples of non-symmetric Einstein solvmanifolds by modifying the algebraic structure of non-compact irreducible symmetri…
As a generalization of Einstein manifolds, the nearly quasi-Einstein manifolds and pseudo quasi-Einstein manifolds are both interesting and useful in studying the general relativity. In this paper, we study the extended quasi-Einstein manifolds which derive from pseudo quasi-Einstein manifolds. After showing the existence theorem of extended quasi-Einstein manifold, we give some special geometric properties of such manifolds. At the same time, we also discuss the extended quasi-Einstein manifolds with certain soliton like generalised Ricci soliton or Riemann soliton. Furthermore, we construct …
In this paper, we prove some compactness theorems of Myers, Ambrose, and Galloway for complete Riemannian manifold in the concept of $h$-almost Ricci tensors and generalized quasi-Einstein tensors. Also, we extend the previous theorems when $h$ has at most linear growth in the distance function.
In this short note, we prove that a Calabi extremal Kaehler-Ricci soliton on a compact toric Kaehler manifold is Einstein. This solves for the class of toric manifolds a general problem stated by the authors that they solved only under some curvature assumptions.
In this article we give a classification of three dimensional m-quasi Einstein manifolds with two distinct Ricci-eigen values. Our study provides explicit description of local and complete metrics and potential functions. We also describe the associated warped product Einstein manifolds in detail. For the proof we present a Codazzi tensor on any three dimensional $m$-quasi Einstein manifold and use geometric properties of the tensor which help to analyze the m-quasi Einstein equation effectively. A technical advance over preceding studies is made by resolving the case when the gradient $\nabla…
In this paper, we construct a set of new functionals of Ricci curvature on any Kaehler manifolds which are invariant under holomorphic transfermations in Kaehler Einstein manifolds and essentially decreasing under the Kaehler Ricci flow. Moreover, if the initial metric has non-negative bisectional curvature, using Tian's inequality, we can prove that each of the functionals has uniform lower bound along the flow which gives a set of integral estimates on curvature. Using this set of integral estimates, we are able to show the following theorem: Let M be a Kaehler-Einstein surface with positive…
In this paper, we introduce the "coupled Ricci iteration", a dynamical system related to the Ricci operator and twisted Kähler-Einstein metrics as an approach to the study of coupled Kähler-Einstein (CKE) metrics. For negative first Chern class, we prove the smooth convergence of the iteration. For positive first Chern class, we also provide a notion of coercivity of the Ding functional, and show its equivalence to existence of CKE metrics. As an application, we prove the smooth convergence of the iteration on CKE Fano manifolds assuming that the automorphism group is discrete.
Let $P$ be a principal U(1)-bundle over a closed manifold $M$. On $P$, one can define a modified version of the Ricci flow called the Ricci Yang-Mills flow, due to these equations being a coupling of Ricci flow and the Yang-Mills heat flow. We use maximal regularity theory and ideas of Simonett concerning the asymptotic behavior of abstract quasilinear parabolic partial differential equations to study the stability of the volume-normalized Ricci Yang-Mills flow at Einstein Yang-Mills metrics in dimension two. In certain cases, we show the presence of a center manifold of fixed points, while in…
In this note we show that the bi-invariant Einstein metric on the compact Lie group $G_{2}$ is dynamically unstable as a fixed point of the Ricci flow. This completes the stability analysis for the bi-invariant metrics on the compact, connected, simple Lie groups. Interestingly, $G_{2}$ is the only unstable exceptional group.
We show that a 1-parameter family Ricci flow ancient solutions arises from the natural collapsings of the twistor space of positive quaternion Kähler manifolds. We use these ancient solutions to show that a positive quaternion Kähler manifold is isometric to one of the Wolf spaces.
The main purpose of the paper is to prove that if a compact Riemannian manifold admits a gradient $ρ$-Einstein soliton such that the gradient Einstein potential is a non-trivial conformal vector field, then the manifold is isometric to the Euclidean sphere. We have showed that a Riemannian manifold satisfying gradient $ρ$-Einstein soliton with convex Einstein potential possesses non-negative scalar curvature. We have also deduced a sufficient condition for a Riemannian manifold to be compact which satisfies almost $η$-Ricci soliton (see Theorem 2).
We present a general numerical method for investigating prescribed Ricci curvature problems on toric Kähler manifolds. This method is applied to two generalisations of Einstein metrics, namely Ricci solitons and quasi-Einstein metrics. We begin by recovering the Koiso--Cao soliton and the Lü--Page--Pope quasi-Einstein metrics on $\mathbb{CP}^{2}\sharp\overline{\mathbb{CP}}^{2}$ (in both cases the metrics are known explicitly). We also find numerical approximations to the Wang--Zhu soliton on $\mathbb{CP}^{2}\sharp 2\overline{\mathbb{CP}}^{2}$ (here the metric is not known explicitly). Finally,…
In this paper we introduce the notion of generalized quasi--Einstein manifold, that generalizes the concepts of Ricci soliton, Ricci almost soliton and quasi--Einstein manifolds. We prove that a complete generalized quasi--Einstein manifold with harmonic Weyl tensor and with zero radial Weyl curvature, is locally a warped product with $(n-1)$--dimensional Einstein fibers. In particular, this implies a local characterization for locally conformally flat gradient Ricci almost solitons, similar to that proved for gradient Ricci solitons.
In this paper we characterize the Einstein metrics in such broader classes of metrics as almost $η$-Ricci solitons and $η$-Ricci solitons on Kenmotsu manifolds, and generalize some results of other authors. First, we prove that a Kenmotsu metric as an $η$-Ricci soliton is Einstein metric if either it is $η$-Einstein or the potential vector field $V$ is an infinitesimal contact transformation or $V$ is collinear to the Reeb vector field. Further, we prove that if a Kenmotsu manifold admits a gradient almost $η$-Ricci soliton with a Reeb vector field leaving the scalar curvature invariant, then …
The non-existence of three dimensional real hypersurfaces in non-flat complex space forms with parallel *-Ricci tensor is proved. At the end of the papaer ideas for further research on *-Ricci tensor are provided.
On a Fano manifold, we prove that the Kahler-Ricci flow starting from a Kahler metric in the anti-canonical class which is sufficiently close to a Kahler-Einstein metric must converge in a polynomial rate to a Kahler-Einstein metric. The convergence can not happen in general if we study the flow on the level of Kahler potentials. Instead we exploit the interpretation of the Ricci flow as the gradient flow of Perelman's μfunctional. This involves modifying the Ricci flow by a canonical family of gauges. In particular, the complex structure of the limit could be different in general. The main te…
We classify totally geodesic submanifolds of Damek-Ricci spaces and show that they are either homogeneous (such submanifolds are known to be "smaller" Damek-Ricci spaces) or isometric to rank-one symmetric spaces of negative curvature. As a by-product, we obtain that a totally geodesic submanifold of any known harmonic manifold is by itself harmonic. We prove that the Cayley hyperbolic plane admits no Einstein hypersurfaces and that the only Einstein hypersurfaces in the Cayley projective plane are geodesic spheres of a particular radius; this completes the classification of Einstein hypersurf…
Let C be a cone in the space of algebraic curvature tensors. Moreover, let (M,g) be a compact Einstein manifold with the property that the curvature tensor of (M,g) lies in the cone C at each point on M. We show that (M,g) has constant sectional curvature if the cone C satisfies certain structure conditions.
In our previous paper math.DG/0010008, we develop some new techniques in attacking the convergence problems for the Kähler Ricci flow. The one of main ideas is to find a set of new functionals on curvature tensors such that the Ricci flow is the gradient like flow of these functionals. We successfully find such functionals in case of Kaehler manifolds. On Kähler-Einstein manifold with positive scalar curvature, if the initial metric has positive bisectional curvature, we prove that these functionals have a uniform lower bound, via the effective use of Tian's inequality. Consequently, we prove …
We answer in the affirmative the question posed by Conti and Rossi on the existence of nilpotent Lie algebras of dimension 7 with an Einstein pseudo-metric of nonzero scalar curvature. Indeed, we construct a left-invariant pseudo-Riemannian metric $g$ of signature $(3, 4)$ on a nilpotent Lie group of dimension 7, such that $g$ is Einstein and not Ricci-flat. We show that the pseudo-metric $g$ cannot be induced by any left-invariant closed $G_2^*$-structure on the Lie group. Moreover, some results on closed and harmonic $G_2^*$-structures on an arbitrary 7-manifold $M$ are given. In particular,…
This paper focuses on the study of three dimensional real hypersurfaces in non-flat complex space forms whose $^{*}$-Ricci tensor satisfies conditions of parallelism. More precisely, extension of existing results concerning real hypersurfaces with vanishing, semi-parallel and pseudo-parallel $^{*}$-Ricci tensor in case of ambient space being the complex hyperbolic space are provided. Furthermore, new results concerning $ξ$-parallelism of $^{*}$-Ricci tensor of real hypersurfaces in non-flat complex space forms are presented.
We prove the non-existence of Hopf real hypersurfaces in complex two-plane Grassmannians whose Ricci tensor is parallel with respect to the generalized Tanaka-Webster connection.
There are described equations for a pair comprising a Riemannian metric and a Killing field on a surface that contain as special cases the Einstein Weyl equations (in the sense of D. Calderbank) and a real version of a special case of the Abelian vortex equations, and it is shown that the property that a metric solve these equations is preserved by the Ricci flow. The equations are solved explicitly, and among the metrics obtained are all steady gradient Ricci solitons (e.g. the the cigar soliton) and the sausage metric; there are found other examples of eternal, ancient, and immortal Ricci fl…
This is partly an expository paper, where the authors' work on pseudoriemannian Einstein metrics on nilpotent Lie groups is reviewed. A new criterion is given for the existence of a diagonal Einstein metric on a nice nilpotent Lie group. Classifications of special classes of Ricci-flat metrics on nilpotent Lie groups of dimension $\leq8$ are obtained. Some related open questions are presented.
We partially confirm a conjecture of Donaldson relating the greatest Ricci lower bound $R(X)$ to the existence of conical Kahler-Einstein metrics on a Fano manifold $X$. In particular, if $D\in |-K_X|$ is a smooth simple divisor and the Mabuchi $K$-energy is bounded below, then there exists a unique conical Kahler-Einstein metric satisfying $Ric(g) = βg + (1-β) [D]$ for any $β\in (0,1)$. We also construct unique smooth conical toric Kahler-Einstein metrics with $β=R(X)$ and a unique effective Q-divisor $D\in [-K_X]$ for all toric Fano manifolds. Finally we prove a Miyaoka-Yau type inequality f…
In this short note, we show that given a special Kähler-Einstein degeneration with bounded geometry, for any noncentral fiber, there exists a Kähler-Ricci flow which converges to the Kähler-Einstein metric of the central fiber. As an example, Tian's deformations \cite{Tian97} of the Mukai 3-fold admit Kähler-Ricci flows which converge to Donaldson's Kähler-Einstein metric \cite{Don08} over the Mukai 3-fold.
Let (M,g) be a complete noncompact riemannian manifold with bounded geometry and parallel Ricci curvature. We show that some operators, "affine" relatively to the Ricci curvature, are locally invertible, in some classical Sobolev spaces, near the metric g.
In this work, we obtain some existence results of Chern-Ricci Flows and the corresponding Potential Flows on complex manifolds with possibly incomplete initial data. We discuss the behaviour of the solution as $t\rightarrow 0$. These results can be viewed as generalization of an existence result by Giesen and Topping for surfaces of hyperbolic type of Ricci flow to higher dimensions in certain sense. On the other hand, we also discuss the long time behaviour of the solution and obtain some sufficient conditions for the existence of Kähler-Einstein metric on complete noncompact Hermitian manifo…
We show that any left invariant metric with harmonic curvature on a solvable Lie group is Ricci-parallel. We show the same result for any Lie group of dimension $\leq$ 6.
Let $(M,g)$ be a compact riemannian manifold without boundary., with parallel Rici curvature. We show that some operators, affine relatively to the Ricci curvature, are locally invertible, near the metric $g$
Motivated by the study of coupled Kähler-Einstein metrics by Hultgren and Witt Nyström and coupled Kähler-Ricci solitons by Hultgren, we study in this paper coupled Sasaki-Einstein metrics and coupled Sasaki-Ricci solitons. We first show an isomorphism between the Lie algebra of all transverse holomorphic vector fields and certain space of coupled basic functions related to coupled twisted Laplacians for basic functions, and obtain extensions of the well-known obstructions to the existence of Kähler-Einstein metrics to this coupled case. These results are reduced to coupled Kähler-Einstein met…
We obtain new examples of non-symmetric Einstein solvmanifolds by combining two techniques. In \cite{T2}, H. Tamaru constructs new {\em attached} solvmanifolds, which are submanifolds of the solvmanifolds corresponding to noncompact symmetric spaces, endowed with a natural metric. Extending this construction, we apply it to {\em associated} solvmanifolds, described in \cite{GK}, obtained by modifying the algebraic structure of the solvable Lie algebras corresponding to noncompact symmetric spaces. Our new examples are Einstein solvmanifolds with nilradicals of high nilpotency, which are geomet…
Weighted Ricci curvatures with various weights of the S-curvature have played an important role in Finsler geometry, especially in the control of volumes of Finsler manifolds. In this paper, we study general weighted Ricci curvatures, and characterize Randers metrics of almost isotropic weighted Ricci curvatures.
In this paper we extend some well-known rigidity results for conformal changes of Einstein metrics to the class of generalized quasi-Einstein (GQE) metrics, which includes gradient Ricci solitons. In order to do so, we introduce the notions of conformal diffeomorphisms and vector fields that preserve a GQE structure. We show that a complete GQE metric admits a structure-preserving, non-homothetic complete conformal vector field if and only if it is a round sphere. We also classify the structure-preserving conformal diffeomorphisms. In the compact case, if a GQE metric admits a structure-preser…
We give criterions for the existence of toric conical Kahler-Einstein and Kahler-Ricci soliton metrics on any toric manifold in relation to the greatest Ricci and Bakry-Emery-Ricci lower bound. We also show that any two toric manifolds with the same dimension can be joined by a continuous path of toric manifolds with conical Kahler-Einstein metrics in the Gromov-Hausdorff topology.
We prove that the number of complex invariant Einstein metrics on the flag manifold $M_{n_1,n_2,n_3}=SO_{2(n_1+n_2+n_3)+1}/U_{n_1} \times U_{n_2} \times SO_{2n_3+1}$ is equal to 132, except when the parameters $n_1, n_2, n_3$ satisfy one of some algebraic equations. Also the family of (real) non-flat Ricci-flat metrics on the Euclidean spaces will be constructed using the method of Inonu-Wigner contractions of Lie algebras.
As of today, there are very few known complete shrinking Ricci solitons in dimension 4, and all examples discovered so far are Kähler and/or Einstein. In this note, we prove that any four dimensional J-invariant gradient shrinking Ricci solitons satisfy a differential form identity relating Kählerity annd Einstein-ness.
We classify Einstein metrics on $\mathbb{R}^4$ invariant under a four-dimensional group of isometries including a principal action of the Heisenberg group. The metrics are either Ricci-flat or of negative Ricci curvature. We show that all of the Ricci-flat metrics, including the simplest ones which are hyper-Kähler, are incomplete. By contrast, those of negative Ricci curvature contain precisely two complete examples: the complex hyperbolic metric and a metric of cohomogeneity one known as the one-loop deformed universal hypermultiplet.
The notion of quasi-Einstein metric in physics is equivalent to the notion of Ricci soliton in Riemannian spaces. Quasi-Einstein metrics serve also as solution to the Ricci flow equation. Here, the Riemannian metric is replaced by a Hessian matrix derived from a Finsler structure and a quasi-Einstein Finsler metric is defined. In compact case, it is proved that the quasi-Einstein metrics are solution to the Finslerian Ricci flow and conversely, certain form of solutions to the Finslerian Ricci flow are quasi-Einstein Finsler metrics.
There are several kinds of classification problems for real hypersurfaces in complex two-plane Grassmannians $G_2({\mathbb C}^{m+2})$. Among them, Suh classified Hopf hypersurfaces $M$ in $G_2({\mathbb C}^{m+2})$ with Reeb parallel Ricci tensor in Levi-Civita connection. In this paper, we introduce a new notion of generalized Tanaka-Webster Reeb parallel Ricci tensor for $M$ in $G_2({\mathbb C}^{m+2})$. By using such parallel conditions, we give complete classifications of Hopf hypersurfaces in $G_2({\mathbb C}^{m+2})$.
