An affine Lie algebra acts on cohomology groups of quiver varieties of affine type. A Heisenberg algebra acts on cohomology groups of Hilbert schemes of points on a minimal resolution of a Kleinian singularity. We show that in the case of type $A$ the former is obtained by Frenkel-Kac construction from the latter.
We prove a generating function formula for the Betti numbers of Nakajima quiver varieties. We prove that it is a q-deformation of the Weyl-Kac character formula. In particular this implies that the constant term of the polynomial counting the number of absolutely indecomposable representations of a quiver equals the multiplicity of a a certain weight in the corresponding Kac-Moody algebra, which was conjectured by Kac in 1982.
A survey of the theory of Kac polynomials for quivers and for curves. In particular, we describe the representation-theoretic meaning of Kac polynomials in terms of Hall algebras, and the geometric meaning of Kac polynomials in relation to the geometry of moduli spaces of representations of quivers or vector bundles on smooth projective curves. We end with some heuristics concerning a family of infinite-dimensional $\mathbb{Z}^2$-graded Lie algebras attached to curves of a fixed genus (over a finite field), whose 'Cartan datum' encodes the dimension of the spaces of absolutely cuspidal functio…
We prove that the weight multiplicities of the integrable irreducible highest weight module over the Kac-Moody algebra associated to a quiver are equal to the root multiplicities of the Kac-Moody algebra associated to some enlarged quiver. To do this, we use the Kac conjecture for indivisible roots and a relation between the Poincare polynomials of quiver varieties and the Kac polynomials, counting the number of absolutely irreducible representations of the quiver over finite fields. As a corollary of this relation, we get an explicit formula for the Poincare polynomials of quiver varieties, w…
In this paper we prove that the counting polynomials of certain torus orbits in products of partial flag varieties coincides with the Kac polynomials of supernova quivers, which arise in the study of the moduli spaces of certain irregular meromorphic connections on trivial bundles over the projective line. We also prove that these polynomials can be expressed as a specialization of Tutte polynomials of certain graphs providing a combinatorial proof of the non-negativity of their coefficients.
To a finite quiver equipped with a positive integer on each of its vertices, we associate a holomorphic symplectic manifold having some parameters. This coincides with Nakajima's quiver variety with no stability parameter/framing if the integers attached on the vertices are all equal to one. The construction of reflection functors for quiver varieties are generalized to our case, in which these relate to simple reflections in the Weyl group of some symmetrizable, possibly non-symmetric Kac-Moody algebra. The moduli spaces of meromorphic connections on the rank 2 trivial bundle over the Riemann…
We give a cohomological interpretation of both the Kac polynomial and the refined Donaldson-Thomas- invariants of quivers. This interpretation yields a proof of a conjecture of Kac from 1982 and gives a new perspective on recent work of Kontsevich-Soibelman. This is achieved by computing, via an arithmetic Fourier transform, the dimensions of the isoytpical components of the cohomology of associated Nakajima quiver varieties under the action of a Weyl group. The generating function of the corresponding Poincaré polynomials is an extension of Hua's formula for Kac polynomials of quivers involvi…
We establish a formula for the value of the Kac polynomial at one in terms of Kac polynomials, evaluated at one, of the universal (abelian) covering quiver by applying torus localization methods to quiver varieties introduced by Hausel--Letellier--Rodriguez-Villegas.
We construct the entire generalized Kac-Moody Lie algebra as a quotient of the positive part of another generalized Kac-Moody Lie algebra. The positive part of a generalized Kac-Moody Lie algebra can be constructed from representations of quivers using Ringel's Hall algebra construction. Thus we give a direct realization of the entire generalized Kac-Moody Lie algebra.
We derive some combinatorial consequences from the positivity of Donaldson-Thomas invariants for symmetric quivers conjectured by Kontsevich and Soibelman and proved recently by Efimov. These results are used to prove the Kac conjecture for quivers having at least one loop at every vertex.
We consider quiver representations respecting a quiver automorphism and show that the dimension vectors of the indecomposables are precisely the positive roots of an associated symmetrisable Kac-Moody Lie algebra. Moreover, every such Lie algebra arises in this way. We also discuss the relationship with species of valued quivers over finite fields.
The aim of this paper is to study the space of stability conditions on the bounded derived category of nilpotent modules over the preprojective algebra associated with a quiver without loops. We describe this space as a covering space of some open set determined by the root system of the Kac-Moody Lie algebra associated with the quiver.
In this paper, the singular Ringel-Hall algebra for a tame quiver is introduced and shown to be isomorphic to the positive part of the quantum extended Kac-Moody algebra. A PBW basis is constructed and a new class of perverse sheaves is shown to have purity property. This allows to construct the canonical bases of the positive part of the quantum extended Kac-Moody algebra. As an application, the existence of Hall polynomials for tame quiver algebras is proved.
We provide a new proof of the Kac positivity conjecture for an arbitrary quiver $Q$. The ingredients are the cohomological integrality theorem in Donaldson-Thomas theory, dimensional reduction, and an easy purity result. These facts imply the purity of the cohomological Donaldson-Thomas invariants for a quiver with potential $(\tilde{Q},W)$ associated to $Q$, which in turn implies positivity of the Kac polynomials for $Q$.
We give a closed expression for the number of points over finite fields (or the motive) of the Lusztig nilpotent variety associated to any quiver, in terms of Kac's A-polynomials. When the quiver has 1-loops or oriented cycles, there are several possible variants of the Lusztig nilpotent variety, and we provide formulas for the point count of each. This involves nilpotent versions of the Kac A-polynomial, which we introduce and for which we give a closed formula similar to Hua's formula for the usual Kac A-polynomial. Finally we compute the number of points over a finite field of the various s…
We reprove the theorem of Feigin and Frenkel relating the center of the critical level enveloping algebra of the Kac-Moody algebra for a semisimple Lie algebra to opers (which are certain de Rham local systems with extra structure) for the Langlands dual group. Our proof incorporates a construction of Beilinson and Drinfeld relating the Feigin-Frenkel isomorphism to (more classical) Langlands duality through the geometric Satake theorem.
Henriques and Kamnitzer have defined a commutor for the category of crystals of a finite-dimensional complex reductive Lie algebra that gives it the structure of a coboundary category (somewhat analogous to a braided monoidal category). Kamnitzer and Tingley then gave an alternative definition of the crystal commutor, using Kashiwara's involution on Verma crystals, that generalizes to the setting of symmetrizable Kac-Moody algebras. In the current paper, we give a geometric interpretation of the crystal commutor using quiver varieties. Equipped with this interpretation we show that the commuto…
A conjecture of Kac now a theorem asserts that the polynomial now known as the Kac polynomial, which counts the isomorphism classes of absolutely indecomposable representations of a quiver over a finite field with a given dimension vector, has non-negative integer coefficients only. In this paper, we show that, for quivers with enough loops, every Kac polynomial can be expressed as a sum of the refined Kac polynomials which are parametrized by tuples of partitions and have non-negative integer coefficients only. A closed formula for the refined Kac polynomials is given. We further introduce a …
We study the cohomological Hall algebra Y of a lagrangian substack of the moduli stack of representations of the preprojective algebra of an arbitrary quiver Q, and their actions on the cohomology of Nakajima quiver varieties. We prove that Y is pure and we compute its Poincare polynomials in terms of (nilpotent) Kac polynomials. We also provide a family of algebra generators. We conjecture that Y is equal, after a suitable extension of scalars, to the Yangian introduced by Maulik and Okounkov. As a corollary, we prove a variant of Okounkov's conjecture, which is a generalization of the Kac co…
Let $Q$ be a finite quiver and $G\subseteq\Aut(\mathbbm{k}Q)$ a finite abelian group. Assume that $\hat{Q}$ and $Γ$ is the generalized Mckay quiver and the valued graph corresponding to $(Q, G)$ respectively. In this paper we discuss the relationship between indecomposable $\hat{Q}$-representations and the root system of Kac-Moody algebra $\mathfrak{g}(Γ)$. Moreover, we may lift $G$ to $\bar{G}\subseteq\Aut(\mathfrak{g}(\hat{Q}))$ such that $\mathfrak{g}(Γ)$ embeds into the fixed point algebra $\mathfrak{g}(\hat{Q})^{\bar{G}}$ and $\mathfrak{g}(\hat{Q})^{\bar{G}}$ as $\mathfrak{g}(Γ)$-module i…
In this paper, we solve a problem raised by V. Kac in \cite{Kac} on locally semi-simple quiver representations. Specifically, we show that an acyclic quiver $Q$ is of tame representation type if and only if every representation of $Q$ with a semi-simple ring of endomorphisms is locally semi-simple.
We construct geometric categorical Lie algebra actions on the derived category of coherent sheaves on Nakajima quiver varieties. These actions categorify Nakajima's construction of Kac-Moody algebra representations on the K-theory of quiver varieties. We define an induced affine braid group action on these derived categories.
For a class of K3 surfaces, the action of a Lie algebra which is a certain affinization of a Kac-Moody algebra is given on the cohomology of the moduli spaces of rank 1 torsion free sheaves on the surface. This action is generated by correspondences between moduli spaces of Bridgeland stable objects on the surface, and is equivalent to an action defined using Fourier coefficients of vertex operators. Two other results are included: a more general result giving geometric finite dimensional Lie algebra actions on moduli spaces of Bridgeland stable objects on K3 surfaces subject to natural condit…
Applying the techniques of an earlier paper with Frenkel, we develop a geometric realization of spin representations and Clifford algebras. In doing so, we give an explicit parametrization of the irreducible components of Nakajima varieties of type D in terms of Young diagrams. We explicity compute the geometric action of the Lie algebra and are able to extend the geometric action to the entire Clifford algebra used in the classical construction of the spin representations.
We give two generalizations of Kac's Theorem on representations of quivers. One is to representations of equipped graphs by relations, in the sense of Gelfand and Ponomarev. The other is to representations of quivers in which certain of the linear maps are required to have maximal rank.
We introduce generalizations of Kac-Moody 2-categories in which the quiver Hecke algebras of Khovanov, Lauda and Rouquier are replaced by the quiver Hecke superalgebras of Kang, Kashiwara and Tsuchioka.
This paper studies connections between the preprojective representations of a valued quiver, the (+)-admissible sequences of vertices, and the Weyl group by associating to each preprojective representation a canonical (+)-admissible sequence. A (+)-admissible sequence is the canonical sequence of some preprojective representation if and only if the product of simple reflections associated to the vertices of the sequence is a reduced word in the Weyl group. As a consequence, for any Coxeter element of the Weyl group associated to an indecomposable symmetrizable generalized Cartan matrix, the gr…
We prove the Frenkel-Gaitsgory localization conjecture describing regular Kac-Moody representations at critical level via eigensheaves on the affine Grassmannian using categorical Moy-Prasad theory. This extends previous work of the authors.
We show that the quiver Hecke superalgebras and their cyclotomic quotients provide a supercategorification of quantum Kac-Moody algebras and their integrable highest weight modules.
In this paper, we describe a categorical action of any Kac-Moody algebra on a category of quantized coherent sheaves on Nakajima quiver varieties. By "quantized coherent sheaves," we mean a category of sheaves of modules over a deformation quantization of the natural symplectic structure on quiver varieties. This action is a direct categorification of the geometric construction of universal enveloping algebras by Nakajima.
Let Q be an affine quiver and let $\mathfrak{n}$ be the positive part of the affine Lie algebra associated to Q. We provide a construction of $\mathfrak{n}$ using the semistable irreducible components in the Lusztig nilpotent variety associated to Q. This confirms a conjecture of Frenkel, Malkin, and Vybornov on defining the so-called algebra of BPS states on the minimal resolution of a Kleinian singularity. Using the results of Crawley-Boevey and Van den Bergh, we show that our construction is closely connected to Kac's constant term conjecture in the case of an affine quiver.
In this paper, we investigate the supercategories consisting of supermodules over quiver Hecke superalgebras and cyclotomic quiver Hecke superalgebras. We prove that these supercategories provide a supercategorification of a certain family of quantum superalgebras and their integrable highest weight modules. We show that, by taking a specialization, we obtain a supercategorification of quantum Kac-Moody superalgebras and their integrable highest weight modules.
We review the definition of quiver varieties and their relation to representation theory of Kac-Moody Lie algebras. Target readers are ring and representation theorists. We emphasize important roles of first extension groups of the preprojective algebra associated with a quiver.
In this paper we prove a formula for fusion coefficients of affine Kac-Moody algebras first conjectured by Walton [Wal2], and rediscovered in [Fe]. It is a reformulation of the Frenkel-Zhu affine fusion rule theorem [FZ], written so that it can be seen as a beautiful generalization of the classical Parasarathy-Ranga Rao-Varadarajan tensor product theorem [PRV].
Kashiwara and Saito have a geometric construction of the infinity crystal for any symmetric Kac-Moody algebra. The underlying set consists of the irreducible components of Lusztig's quiver varieties, which are varieties of nilpotent representations of a pre-projective algebra. We generalize this to symmetrizable Kac-Moody algebras by replacing Lusztig's preprojective algebra with a more general one due to Dlab and Ringel. In non-symmetric types we are forced to work over non-algebraically-closed fields.
For a quiver with weighted arrows we define gauge-theory K-theoretic W-algebra generalizing the definition of Shiraishi et al., and Frenkel and Reshetikhin. In particular, we show that the qq-character construction of gauge theory presented by Nekrasov is isomorphic to the definition of the W-algebra in the operator formalism as a commutant of screening charges in the free field representation. Besides, we allow arbitrary quiver and expect interesting applications to representation theory of generalized Borcherds-Kac-Moody Lie algebras, their quantum affinizations and associated W-algebras.
Let $\fg$ be a simple finite-dimensional complex Lie algebra with a Cartan subalgebra $\fh$ and Weyl group $W$. Let $\fg_n$ denote the Lie algebra of $n$-jets on $\fg$. A theorem of Rais and Tauvel and Geoffriau identifies the centre of the category of $\fg_n$-modules with the algebra of functions on the variety of $n$-jets on the affine space $\fh^*/W$. On the other hand, a theorem of Feigin and Frenkel identifies the centre of the category of critical level smooth modules of the corresponding affine Kac-Moody algebra with the algebra of functions on the ind-scheme of opers for the Langlands …
In a recent paper by K.-H. Lee and K. Lee, rigid reflections are defined for any Coxeter group via non-self-intersecting curves on a Riemann surface with labeled curves. When the Coxeter group arises from an acyclic quiver, the rigid reflections are related to the rigid representations of the quiver. For a family of rank $3$ Coxeter groups, it was conjectured in the same paper that there is a natural bijection from the set of reduced positive roots of a symmetric rank $2$ Kac--Moody algebra onto the set of rigid reflections of the corresponding rank $3$ Coxeter group. In this paper, we prove t…
Given any Coxeter group, we define rigid reflections and rigid roots using non-self-intersecting curves on a Riemann surface with labeled curves. When the Coxeter group arises from an acyclic quiver, they are related to the rigid representations of the quiver. For a family of rank 3 Coxeter groups, we show that there is a surjective map from the set of reduced positive roots of a rank 2 Kac--Moody algebra onto the set of rigid reflections. We conjecture that this map is bijective.
We study the restricted category O for an affine Kac--Moody algebra at the critical level. In particular, we prove the first part of the Feigin-Frenkel conjecture: the linkage principle for restricted Verma modules. Moreover, we prove a version of the BGGH-reciprocity principle and we determine the block decomposition of the restricted category O. For the proofs we need a deformed version of the classical structures, so we mostly work in a relative setting.
We provide a geometric realization of the crystal $B(\infty)$ for quantum generalized Kac-Moody algebras in terms of the irreducible components of certain Lagrangian subvarieties in the representation spaces of a quiver.
We propose a conjectural construction of various slices for double affine Grassmannians as Coulomb branches of 3-dimensional N=4 supersymmetric affine quiver gauge theories. It generalizes the known construction for the usual affine Grassmannian, and makes sense for arbitrary symmetric Kac-Moody algebras.
Motivated by affine Schubert calculus, we construct a family of dual graded graphs $(Γ_s,Γ_w)$ for an arbitrary Kac-Moody algebra $\g(A)$. The graded graphs have the Weyl group $W$ of $\g(A)$ as vertex set and are labeled versions of the strong and weak orders of $W$ respectively. Using a construction of Lusztig for quivers with an admissible automorphism, we define folded insertion for a Kac-Moody algebra and obtain Sagan-Worley shifted insertion from Robinson-Schensted insertion as a special case. Drawing on work of Stembridge, we analyze the induced subgraphs of $(Γ_s,Γ_w)$ which are distri…
We consider a generalization of the quiver varieties of Lusztig and Nakajima to the case of all symmetrizable Kac-Moody Lie algebras. To deal with the non-simply laced case one considers admissible automorphisms of a quiver and the irreducible components of the quiver varieties fixed by this automorphism. We define a crystal structure on these irreducible components and show that the crystals obtained are isomorphic to those associated to the crystal bases of the lower half of the universal enveloping algebra and the irreducible highest weight representations of the non-simply laced Kac-Moody …
For a quiver $Q$, we take $\mathcal{M}$ an associated toric Nakajima quiver variety and $Γ$ the underlying graph. In this article, we give a direct relation between a specialisation of the Tutte polynomial of $Γ$, the Kac polynomial of $Q$ and the Poincaré polynomial of $\mathcal{M}$. We do this by giving a cell decomposition of $\mathcal{M}$ indexed by spanning trees of $Γ$ and `geometrising' the deletion and contraction operators on graphs. These relations have been previously established by Sturmfels-Hausel and (Crawley-Boovey)-Van den Bergh, however the methods here are more hands-on.
Braverman and Finkelberg recently proposed the geometric Satake correspondence for the affine Kac-Moody group $G_\aff$ [Braverman A., Finkelberg M., arXiv:0711.2083]. They conjecture that intersection cohomology sheaves on the Uhlenbeck compactification of the framed moduli space of $G_{\mathrm{cpt}}$-instantons on $\R^4/\Z_r$ correspond to weight spaces of representations of the Langlands dual group $G_\aff^\vee$ at level $r$. When $G = \SL(l)$, the Uhlenbeck compactification is the quiver variety of type $\algsl(r)_\aff$, and their conjecture follows from the author's earlier result and I. F…
Let $\mathfrak{g}$ be an affine Kac-Moody algebra with symmetric Cartan datum, $\mathfrak{n^{+}}$ be the maximal nilpotent subalgebra of $\mathfrak{g}$. By the Hall algebra approach, we construct integral bases of the $\mathbb{Z}$-form of the enveloping algebra $U(\mathfrak{n^{+}})$. In particular, the representation theory of tame quivers is essentially used in this paper.
