We establish a formula for the value of the Kac polynomial at one in terms of Kac polynomials, evaluated at one, of the universal (abelian) covering quiver by applying torus localization methods to quiver varieties introduced by Hausel--Letellier--Rodriguez-Villegas.
A survey of the theory of Kac polynomials for quivers and for curves. In particular, we describe the representation-theoretic meaning of Kac polynomials in terms of Hall algebras, and the geometric meaning of Kac polynomials in relation to the geometry of moduli spaces of representations of quivers or vector bundles on smooth projective curves. We end with some heuristics concerning a family of infinite-dimensional $\mathbb{Z}^2$-graded Lie algebras attached to curves of a fixed genus (over a finite field), whose 'Cartan datum' encodes the dimension of the spaces of absolutely cuspidal functio…
In this paper we prove that the counting polynomials of certain torus orbits in products of partial flag varieties coincides with the Kac polynomials of supernova quivers, which arise in the study of the moduli spaces of certain irregular meromorphic connections on trivial bundles over the projective line. We also prove that these polynomials can be expressed as a specialization of Tutte polynomials of certain graphs providing a combinatorial proof of the non-negativity of their coefficients.
In this paper, the singular Ringel-Hall algebra for a tame quiver is introduced and shown to be isomorphic to the positive part of the quantum extended Kac-Moody algebra. A PBW basis is constructed and a new class of perverse sheaves is shown to have purity property. This allows to construct the canonical bases of the positive part of the quantum extended Kac-Moody algebra. As an application, the existence of Hall polynomials for tame quiver algebras is proved.
We prove that the weight multiplicities of the integrable irreducible highest weight module over the Kac-Moody algebra associated to a quiver are equal to the root multiplicities of the Kac-Moody algebra associated to some enlarged quiver. To do this, we use the Kac conjecture for indivisible roots and a relation between the Poincare polynomials of quiver varieties and the Kac polynomials, counting the number of absolutely irreducible representations of the quiver over finite fields. As a corollary of this relation, we get an explicit formula for the Poincare polynomials of quiver varieties, w…
We give a cohomological interpretation of both the Kac polynomial and the refined Donaldson-Thomas- invariants of quivers. This interpretation yields a proof of a conjecture of Kac from 1982 and gives a new perspective on recent work of Kontsevich-Soibelman. This is achieved by computing, via an arithmetic Fourier transform, the dimensions of the isoytpical components of the cohomology of associated Nakajima quiver varieties under the action of a Weyl group. The generating function of the corresponding Poincaré polynomials is an extension of Hua's formula for Kac polynomials of quivers involvi…
We introduce a generalization of the classical Hall-Littlewood and Kostka-Foulkes polynomials to all symmetrizable Kac-Moody algebras. We prove that these Kostka-Foulkes polynomials coincide with the natural generalization of Lusztig's $t$-analog of weight multiplicities, thereby extending a theorem of Kato. For $g$ an affine Kac-Moody algebra, we define $t$-analogs of string functions and use Cherednik's constant term identities to derive explicit product expressions for them.
We prove that the multiplicity of an arbitrary dominant weight for an integrable highest weight representation of the affine Kac-Moody algebra $A_{r}^{(1)}$ is a polynomial in the rank $r$. In the process we show that the degree of this polynomial is less than or equal to the depth of the weight with respect to the highest weight. These results allow weight multiplicity information for small ranks to be transferred to arbitrary ranks.
A conjecture of Kac now a theorem asserts that the polynomial now known as the Kac polynomial, which counts the isomorphism classes of absolutely indecomposable representations of a quiver over a finite field with a given dimension vector, has non-negative integer coefficients only. In this paper, we show that, for quivers with enough loops, every Kac polynomial can be expressed as a sum of the refined Kac polynomials which are parametrized by tuples of partitions and have non-negative integer coefficients only. A closed formula for the refined Kac polynomials is given. We further introduce a …
In this paper, we prove that the ring of polynomial invariants of the Weyl group for an indecomposable and indefinite Kac-Moody Lie algebra is generated by invariant symmetric bilinear form or is trivial depending on $A$ is symmetrizable or not. The result was conjectured by Moody and assumed by Kac. As applications we discuss the rational homotopy types of Kac-Moody groups and their flag manifolds.
We prove a generating function formula for the Betti numbers of Nakajima quiver varieties. We prove that it is a q-deformation of the Weyl-Kac character formula. In particular this implies that the constant term of the polynomial counting the number of absolutely indecomposable representations of a quiver equals the multiplicity of a a certain weight in the corresponding Kac-Moody algebra, which was conjectured by Kac in 1982.
We prove that the number of geometrically indecomposable representations of fixed dimension vector d of a canonical algebra C defined over a finite field Fq is given by a polynomial in q (depending on C and d). We prove a similar result for squid algebras (and for any almost concealed canonical algebra). Finally we express the volume of the moduli stacks of representations of these algebras of a fixed dimension vector in terms of the corresponding Kac polynomials.
We give a new interpretation of the chromatic polynomial of a simple graph G in terms of the Kac-Moody Lie algebra with Dynkin diagram G. We show that the chromatic polynomial is essentially the q-Kostant partition function of this Lie algebra evaluated on the sum of the simple roots. Applying the Peterson recurrence formula for root multiplicities, we obtain a new realization of the chromatic polynomial as a weighted sum of paths in the bond lattice of G.
We provide a new proof of the Kac positivity conjecture for an arbitrary quiver $Q$. The ingredients are the cohomological integrality theorem in Donaldson-Thomas theory, dimensional reduction, and an easy purity result. These facts imply the purity of the cohomological Donaldson-Thomas invariants for a quiver with potential $(\tilde{Q},W)$ associated to $Q$, which in turn implies positivity of the Kac polynomials for $Q$.
We classify finite-dimensional tame modules over the ortho-symplectic Lie superalgebras. For these modules we show that their characters are given by the Kac-Wakimoto character formula, thus establishing the Kac-Wakimoto conjecture for the ortho-symplectic Lie superalgebras. We further relate the Kac-Wakimoto formula to the super Jacobi polynomials of Sergeev and Veselov, and show that these polynomials, up to a sign, give the super characters for these tame modules.
We give a closed expression for the number of points over finite fields (or the motive) of the Lusztig nilpotent variety associated to any quiver, in terms of Kac's A-polynomials. When the quiver has 1-loops or oriented cycles, there are several possible variants of the Lusztig nilpotent variety, and we provide formulas for the point count of each. This involves nilpotent versions of the Kac A-polynomial, which we introduce and for which we give a closed formula similar to Hua's formula for the usual Kac A-polynomial. Finally we compute the number of points over a finite field of the various s…
The polynomial which determine the simplicity of the Kac modules for the restricted Lie superalgebra gl(m,n) is completely determined by a characteristic free approach. Its application on the nonrestricted representation is investigated.
We give a criterion for the Kac conjecture asserting that the free term of the polynomial counting the absolutely indecomposable representations of a quiver over a finite field of given dimension coincides with the corresponding root multiplicity of the associated Kac-Moody algebra. Our criterion suits very well for computer tests.
We study the cohomological Hall algebra Y of a lagrangian substack of the moduli stack of representations of the preprojective algebra of an arbitrary quiver Q, and their actions on the cohomology of Nakajima quiver varieties. We prove that Y is pure and we compute its Poincare polynomials in terms of (nilpotent) Kac polynomials. We also provide a family of algebra generators. We conjecture that Y is equal, after a suitable extension of scalars, to the Yangian introduced by Maulik and Okounkov. As a corollary, we prove a variant of Okounkov's conjecture, which is a generalization of the Kac co…
We study a correction factor for Kac-Moody root systems which arises in the theory of $p$-adic Kac-Moody groups. In affine type, this factor is known, and its explicit computation is the content of the Macdonald constant term conjecture. The data of the correction factor can be encoded as a collection of polynomials $m_λ\in \mathbb{Z}[t]$ indexed by positive imaginary roots $λ$. At $t=0$ these polynomials evaluate to the root multiplicities, so we consider $m_λ$ to be a $t$-deformation of $\mathrm{mult} (λ)$. We generalize the Peterson algorithm and the Berman-Moody formula for root multiplici…
We establish a character formula for indecomposable tilting modules for connected reductive groups in characteristic p in terms of p-Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials, for p>h the Coxeter number. Using results of Andersen, one may deduce a character formula for simple modules if p>2h-3. Our results are a consequence of an extension to modular coefficients of a monoidal Koszul duality equivalence established by Bezrukavnikov and Yun.
In this paper, the rational Ringel-Hall algebras for tame quivers are introduced and are identified with the positive part of the quantum extended Kac-Moody algebras. By using the rational Ringel-Hall algebras, we show that the existence of Hall polynomials for tame quiver algebras. The PBW bases are constructed and new classes of perverse sheaves are shown to have strong purity property. These allows us to construct the canonical bases of the positive part of the quantum extended Kac-Moody algebras.
The generalized Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials for the finite dimensional irreducible representations of the general linear superalgebra are computed explicitly. Using the result we establish a one to one correspondence between the set of composition factors of an arbitrary $r$-fold atypical $gl_{m|n}$-Kac-module and the set of composition factors of some $r$-fold atypical $gl_{r|r}$-Kac-module. The result of Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials is also applied to prove a conjectural character formula put forward by van der Jeugt et al in the late 80s. We simplify this character formula to cast it into th…
We establish a connection between a specialization of the nonsymmetric Macdonald polynomials and the Demazure characters of the corresponding affine Kac-Moody algebra. This allows us to obtain a representation-theoretical interpretation of the coefficients of the expansion of the specialized symmetric Macdonald polynomials in the basis formed by the irreducible characters of the associated finite Lie algebra.
For a quiver $Q$, we take $\mathcal{M}$ an associated toric Nakajima quiver variety and $Γ$ the underlying graph. In this article, we give a direct relation between a specialisation of the Tutte polynomial of $Γ$, the Kac polynomial of $Q$ and the Poincaré polynomial of $\mathcal{M}$. We do this by giving a cell decomposition of $\mathcal{M}$ indexed by spanning trees of $Γ$ and `geometrising' the deletion and contraction operators on graphs. These relations have been previously established by Sturmfels-Hausel and (Crawley-Boovey)-Van den Bergh, however the methods here are more hands-on.
This paper studies connections between the preprojective representations of a valued quiver, the (+)-admissible sequences of vertices, and the Weyl group by associating to each preprojective representation a canonical (+)-admissible sequence. A (+)-admissible sequence is the canonical sequence of some preprojective representation if and only if the product of simple reflections associated to the vertices of the sequence is a reduced word in the Weyl group. As a consequence, for any Coxeter element of the Weyl group associated to an indecomposable symmetrizable generalized Cartan matrix, the gr…
Fix an infinite field $k$ of characteristic $p$, and let $\g$ be the Kac-Moody algebra $\mathfrak{sl}_{\infty}$ if $p=0$ and $\hat{\mathfrak{sl}}_p$ otherwise. Let $\PP$ denote the category of strict polynomial functors defined over $k$. We describe a $\g$-action on $\PP$ (in the sense of Chuang and Rouquier) categorifying the Fock space representation of $\g$.
We consider quiver representations respecting a quiver automorphism and show that the dimension vectors of the indecomposables are precisely the positive roots of an associated symmetrisable Kac-Moody Lie algebra. Moreover, every such Lie algebra arises in this way. We also discuss the relationship with species of valued quivers over finite fields.
The Weyl-Kac character formula gives a beautiful closed-form expression for the characters of integrable highest-weight modules of Kac-Moody algebras. It is not, however, a formula that is combinatorial in nature, obscuring positivity. In this paper we show that the theory of Hall-Littlewood polynomials may be employed to prove Littlewood-type combinatorial formulas for the characters of certain highest weight modules of the affine Lie algebras C_n^{(1)}, A_{2n}^{(2)} and D_{n+1}^{(2)}. Through specialisation this yields generalisations for B_n^{(1)}, C_n^{(1)}, A_{2n-1}^{(2)}, A_{2n}^{(2)} an…
In 1980, Lusztig introduced the periodic Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials, which are conjectured to have important information about the characters of irreducible modules of a reductive group over a field of positive characteristic, and also about those of an affine Kac-Moody algebra at the critical level. The periodic Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials can be computed by using another family of polynomials, called the periodic $R$-polynomials. In this paper, we prove a (closed) combinatorial formula expressing periodic $R$-polynomials in terms of the "doubled" Bruhat graph associated to a finite Weyl gro…
Let $Q$ be a finite quiver and $G\subseteq\Aut(\mathbbm{k}Q)$ a finite abelian group. Assume that $\hat{Q}$ and $Γ$ is the generalized Mckay quiver and the valued graph corresponding to $(Q, G)$ respectively. In this paper we discuss the relationship between indecomposable $\hat{Q}$-representations and the root system of Kac-Moody algebra $\mathfrak{g}(Γ)$. Moreover, we may lift $G$ to $\bar{G}\subseteq\Aut(\mathfrak{g}(\hat{Q}))$ such that $\mathfrak{g}(Γ)$ embeds into the fixed point algebra $\mathfrak{g}(\hat{Q})^{\bar{G}}$ and $\mathfrak{g}(\hat{Q})^{\bar{G}}$ as $\mathfrak{g}(Γ)$-module i…
