We construct geometric categorical Lie algebra actions on the derived category of coherent sheaves on Nakajima quiver varieties. These actions categorify Nakajima's construction of Kac-Moody algebra representations on the K-theory of quiver varieties. We define an induced affine braid group action on these derived categories.
We give a description of certain categories of equivariant coherent sheaves on Grothendieck's resolution in terms of the categorical affine Hecke algebra of Soergel. As an application, we deduce a relationship of these coherent sheaf categories to the categories of perverse sheaves considered in the work of Bezrukavnikov-Yun, generalizing results of Arkhipov-Bezrukavnikov. In addition, we deduce that the weak braid group action on sheaves of Riche and Bezrukavnikov-Riche can be upgraded to a strict braid group action.
We describe a number of geometric contexts where categorification appears naturally: coherent sheaves, constructible sheaves and sheaves of modules over quantizations. In each case, we discuss how "index formulas" allow us to easily perform categorical calculations, and readily relate classical constructions of geometric representation theory to categorical ones.
We show that there is a perverse sheaf on a fine moduli space of stable sheaves on a smooth projective Calabi-Yau 3-fold, which is locally the perverse sheaf of vanishing cycles for a local Chern-Simons functional, possibly after taking an etale Galois cover. This perverse sheaf lifts to a mixed Hodge module and gives us a cohomology theory which enables us to define the Gopakumar-Vafa invariants mathematically.
We show that there is a natural perverse sheaf on the moduli space of semistable sheaves on a smooth projective Calabi-Yau 3-fold which is locally the perverse sheaf of vanishing cycles for a local Chern-Simons functional. This gives us a cohomology theory whose Euler numbers are Donaldson-Thomas invariants.
We extend the scope of a former paper to vector bundle problems involving more than one vector bundle. As the main application, we obtain the solution of the well-known moduli problems of vector bundles associated with general quivers.
We study intersections of complex Lagrangian in complex symplectic manifolds, proving two main results. First, we construct global canonical perverse sheaves on complex Lagrangian intersections in complex symplectic manifolds for any pair of {\it oriented} Lagrangian submanifolds in the complex analytic topology. Our method uses classical results in complex symplectic geometry and some results from arXiv:1304.4508. The algebraic version of our result has already been obtained by the author et al. in arXiv:1211.3259 using different methods, where we used, in particular, the recent new theory of…
In this paper, we describe a categorical action of any Kac-Moody algebra on a category of quantized coherent sheaves on Nakajima quiver varieties. By "quantized coherent sheaves," we mean a category of sheaves of modules over a deformation quantization of the natural symplectic structure on quiver varieties. This action is a direct categorification of the geometric construction of universal enveloping algebras by Nakajima.
We generalize the notion of multi-Gieseker semistability for coherent sheaves, introduced by Greb, Ross, and Toma, to quiver sheaves for a quiver $Q$. We construct coarse moduli spaces for semistable quiver sheaves using a functorial method that realizes these as subschemes of moduli spaces of representations of a twisted quiver, depending on $Q$, with relations. We also show the projectivity of the moduli space in the case when $Q$ has no oriented cycles. Finally, we investigate the parameter dependence of the moduli.
We study the relationship between two stratifications on parameter spaces for coherent sheaves and for quiver representations: a stratification by Harder-Narasimhan types and a stratification arising from the geometric invariant theory construction of the associated moduli spaces of semistable objects. For quiver representations, both stratifications coincide, but this is not quite true for sheaves. We explain why the stratifications on various Quot schemes do not coincide and see that the correct parameter space to compare such stratifications is the stack of coherent sheaves. Then we relate …
In the 1980s Drézet and Le Potier realized moduli spaces of Gieseker-semistable sheaves on $\mathbb{P}^2$ as what are now called quiver moduli spaces. We discuss how this construction can be understood using t-structures and exceptional collections on derived categories, and how it can be extended to a similar result on $\mathbb{P}^1\times\mathbb{P}^1$.
This paper classifies a class of holomorphic D-branes, closely related to framed torsion-free sheaves, on threefolds fibered in resolved ADE surfaces over a general curve C, in terms of representations with relations of a twisted Kronheimer--Nakajima-type quiver in the category Coh(C) of coherent sheaves on C. For the local Calabi--Yau case C\cong\A^1 and special choice of framing, one recovers the N=1 ADE quiver studied by Cachazo--Katz--Vafa.
For a stratified topological space we introduce the category of IC-modules, which are linear algebra devices with the relations described by the equation d^2=0. We prove that the category of (mixed) IC-modules is equivalent to the category of (mixed) perverse sheaves for flag varieties. As an application, we describe an algorithm calculating the quiver underlying the BGG category O for arbitrary simple Lie algebra, thus answering a question which goes back to I. M. Gelfand.
In this paper, we give a method for relating the generalized category $\mathcal{O}$ defined by the author and collaborators to explicit finitely presented algebras, and apply this to quiver varieties. This allows us to describe combinatorially not just the structure of these category $\mathcal{O}$'s but also how certain interesting families of derived equivalences, the shuffling and twisting functors, act on them. In the case of Nakajima quiver varieties, the algebras that appear are weighted KLR algebras and their steadied quotients, defined by the author in earlier work. In particular, these…
We construct geometric realizations of the r-colored bosonic and fermionic Fock space on the equivariant cohomology of the moduli space of framed rank r torsion-free sheaves on CP^2. Using these constructions, we realize geometrically all level one irreducible representations of the affine Lie algebra \hat{gl(r)}. The cyclic group Z_k acts naturally on the moduli space of sheaves, and the fixed-point components of this action are cyclic Nakajima quiver varieties . We realize level k irreducible representations of \hat{gl(r)} on the equivariant cohomology of these quiver varieties.
We show that the moduli stacks of semistable sheaves on smooth projective varieties are analytic locally on their coarse moduli spaces described in terms of representations of the associated Ext-quivers with convergent relations. When the underlying variety is a Calabi-Yau 3-fold, our result describes the above moduli stacks as critical locus analytic locally on the coarse moduli spaces. The results in this paper will be applied to the wall-crossing formula of Gopakumar-Vafa invariants defined by Maulik and the author.
The aim of this paper is to study the singularities of certain moduli spaces of sheaves on K3 surfaces by means of Nakajima quiver varieties. The singularities in question arise from the choice of a non--generic polarization, with respect to which we consider stability, and admit natural symplectic resolutions corresponding to choices of general polarizations. For sheaves that are pure of dimension one, we show that these moduli spaces are, locally around a singular point, isomorphic to a quiver variety and that, via this isomorphism, the natural symplectic resolutions correspond to variations…
In this expository paper we present an overview of various graphical categorifications of the Heisenberg algebra and its Fock space representation. We begin with a discussion of "weak" categorifications via modules for Hecke algebras and "geometrizations" in terms of the cohomology of the Hilbert scheme. We then turn our attention to more recent "strong" categorifications involving planar diagrammatics and derived categories of coherent sheaves on Hilbert schemes.
We prove a theorem relating torus-equivariant coherent sheaves on toric varieties to polyhedrally-constructible sheaves on a vector space. At the level of K-theory, the theorem recovers Morelli's description of the K-theory of a smooth projective toric variety. Specifically, let $X$ be a proper toric variety of dimension $n$ and let $M_\bR = \mathrm{Lie}(T_\bR^\vee)\cong \bR^n$ be the Lie algebra of the compact dual (real) torus $T_\bR^\vee\cong U(1)^n$. Then there is a corresponding conical Lagrangian $Λ\subset T^*M_\bR$ and an equivalence of triangulated dg categories $\Perf_T(X) \cong \Sh_{…
We study the moduli space of rank 2 instanton sheaves on $\p3$ in terms of representations of a quiver consisting of 3 vertices and 4 arrows between two pairs of vertices. Aiming at an alternative compactification for the moduli space of instanton sheaves, we show that for each rank 2 instanton sheaf, there is a stability parameter $θ$ for which the corresponding quiver representation is $θ$-stable (in the sense of King), and that the space of stability parameters has a non trivial wall-and-chamber decomposition. Looking more closely at instantons of low charge, we prove that there are stabili…
In the first part of this paper we provide a survey of some fundamental results about moduli spaces of framed sheaves on smooth projective surfaces. In particular, we outline a result by Bruzzo and Markushevich, and discuss a few significant examples. The moduli spaces of framed sheaves on $\mathbb{P}^2$, on multiple blowup of $\mathbb{P}^2$ are described in terms of ADHM data and, when this characterization is available, as quiver varieties. The second part is devoted to a detailed study of framed sheaves on the Hirzebruch surface $Σ_n$ in the case when the invariant expressing the necessary …
This is the first of two papers studying moduli spaces of a certain class of coherent sheaves, which we call {\it stable perverse coherent sheaves}, on the blowup of a projective surface. They are used to relate usual moduli spaces of stable sheaves on a surface and its blowup. In this first part, we give a quiver (or ADHM) description of moduli spaces for framed perverse coherent sheaves on the blowup of the projective plane.
Given a double quiver, we study homological algebra of twisted quiver sheaves with the moment map relation using the short exact sequence of Crawley-Boevey, Holland, Gothen, and King. Then in a certain one-parameter space of the stability conditions, we obtain a wall-crossing formula for the generalized Donaldson-Thomas invariants of the abelian category of framed twisted quiver sheaves on a smooth projective curve. To do so, we closely follow the approach of Chuang, Diaconescu, and Pan in the ADHM quiver case, which makes use of the theory of Joyce and Song. The invariants virtually count fra…
We present a method based on mutations of helices which leads to the construction (in the large volume limit) of exceptional coherent sheaves associated with the $(\sum_al_a=0)$ orbits in Gepner models. This is explicitly verified for a few examples including some cases where the ambient weighted projective space has singularities not inherited by the Calabi-Yau hypersurface. The method is based on two conjectures which lead to the analog,in the general case, of the Beilinson quiver for $\BP^n$. We discuss how one recovers the McKay quiver using the gauged linear sigma model (GLSM) near the or…
This paper introduces a class of smooth projective varieties that generalise and share many properties with partial flag varieties of type A. The quiver flag variety M_\vartheta(Q,r) of a finite acyclic quiver Q (with a unique source) and a dimension vector r is a fine moduli space of stable representations of Q. Quiver flag varieties are Mori Dream Spaces, they are obtained via a tower of Grassmann bundles, and their bounded derived category of coherent sheaves is generated by a tilting bundle. We define the multigraded linear series of a weakly exceptional sequence of locally free sheaves E …
Kirillov has described a McKay correspondence for finite subgroups of PSL_{2}(C) that associates to each `height' function an affine Dynkin quiver together with a derived equivalence between equivariant sheaves on the projective line P^1 and representations of this quiver. The equivalences for different height functions are then related by reflection functors for quiver representations. The main goal of this paper is to develop an analogous story for the cotangent bundle of P^1. We show that each height function gives rise to a derived equivalence between equivariant sheaves on the cotangent b…
In a previous paper, the first two named authors established an isomorphism between the moduli space of framed flags of sheaves on the projective plane and the moduli space of stable representations of a certain quiver. In the present note, we substitute one of the claims made, namely [5, Theorem 17], for a weaker claim regarding the existence of unobstructed points in the quiver moduli space. We also extend some of the results of the cited paper, concerning the maximal stability chamber within which the isomorphism mentioned holds, and the existence of a perfect obstruction theory for the qui…
We develop a theory of general sheaves over weighted projective lines. We define and study a canonical decomposition, analogous to Kac's canonical decomposition for representations of quivers, study subsheaves of a general sheaf, general ranks of morphisms, and prove analogues of Schofield's results on general representations of quivers. Using these, we give a recursive algorithm for computing properties of general sheaves. Many of our results are proved in a more abstract setting, involving a hereditary abelian category.
Let C be small category and A an arbitrary category. Consider the category C(A) whose objects are functors from C to A, and whose morphisms are natural transformations. Given a functor F : A --> B one obtains an induced functor F_C : C(A) --> C(B) . If A and B are abelian categories, we have that C(A) and C(B) are also abelian, and one has two functors R(F_C) : D(C(A)) --> D(C(B)) and (RF)_ C : C(D(A)) --> C(D (B)). The goals of this paper are: 1) to find a relationship between D (C(A)) and C(D(A)); 2) to relate the functors R(F_C) and (RF)_C. As an application, we prove a version of Mukai's T…
Using derived categories of equivariant coherent sheaves, we construct a categorification of the tangle calculus associated to sl(2) and its standard representation. Our construction is related to that of Seidel-Smith by homological mirror symmetry. We show that the resulting doubly graded knot homology agrees with Khovanov homology.
It is a well established fact, that any projective algebraic variety is a moduli space of representations over some finite dimensional algebra. This algebra can be chosen in several ways. The counterpart in algebraic geometry is tautological: every variety is its own Hilber scheme of sheaves of length one. This holds even scheme theoretic. We use Beilinson's equivalence to get similar results for finite dimensional algebras, including moduli spaces and quiver grassmannians. Moreover, we show that several already known results can be traced back to the Hilbert scheme construction and Beilinson'…
We study Le Potier's strange duality conjecture on $\mathbb{P}^2$. We focus on the strange duality map $SD_{c_n^r,d}$ which involves the moduli space of rank $r$ sheaves with trivial first Chern class and second Chern class $n$, and the moduli space of 1-dimensional sheaves with determinant $\mathcal{O}_{\mathbb{P}^2}(d)$ and Euler characteristic 0. By using tools in quiver representation theory, we show that $SD_{c^r_n,d}$ is an isomorphisms for $r=n$ or $r=n-1$ or $d\leq 3$, and in general $SD_{c^r_n,d}$ is injective for any $n\geq r>0$ and $d>0$.
Given a sufficiently nice collection of sheaves on an algebraic variety V, Bondal explained how to build a quiver Q along with an ideal of relations in the path algebra of Q such that the derived category of representations of Q subject to these relations is equivalent to the derived category of coherent sheaves on V. We consider the case in which these sheaves are all locally free and study the moduli spaces of semistable representations of our quiver with relations for various stability conditions. We show that V can often be recovered as a connected component of such a moduli space and we d…
In this note, we show that the canonical orientation data on the quiver hearts are compatible under the autoequivalence $\_\otimesπ^*O(1)$, and hence glue to give an orientation data for the stack of coherent sheaves on local P2.
We give a complete quiver description of the category of perverse sheaves on Hermitian symmetric spaces in types A and D, constructible with respect to the Schubert stratification. The calculation is microlocal, and uses the action of the Borel group to study the geometry of the conormal variety.
We relate the representations of the rational Cherednik algebras associated with the complex reflection group G(m,1,n) to sheaves on Nakajima quiver varieties associated with extended Dynkin gaphs via a Z-algebra construction. As the parameters defining the Cherednik algebra vary, the stability conditions defining the quiver variety change. We interpret the ordering on category O geometrically using this relationship; we also relate the geometry to the a-function for Hecke algebras with unequal parameters.
We develop the theory of semi-orthogonal decompositions and spherical functors in the framework of stable $\infty$-categories. Building on this, we study the relative Waldhausen S-construction $S_\bullet(F)$ of a spherical functor $F$ and equip it with a natural paracyclic structure (``rotational symmetry''). This fulfills a part of the general program to provide a rigorous account of perverse schobers which are (thus far conjectural) categorifications of perverse sheaves. Namely, in terms of our previous identification of perverse sheaves on Riemann surfaces with Milnor sheaves, the relative …
This article is based on my lecture notes from summer schools at the Universities of Utah (June 2007) and Warwick (September 2007). We provide an introduction to explicit methods in the study of moduli spaces of quiver representations and derived categories arising in toric geometry. The first main goal is to present the noncommutative geometric approach to semiprojective toric varieties via quivers. To achieve this, we use geometric invariant theory to construct both semiprojective toric varieties and moduli spaces of quiver representations. The second main goal builds on the first by present…
Attached to a weight space in an integrable highest weight representation of a simply-laced Kac-Moody algebra $\mathfrak{g}$, there are two natural commutative algebras: the cohomology ring of a quiver variety and the center of a cyclotomic KLR algebra. In this note, we describe a natural geometric map between these algebras in terms of quantum coherent sheaves on quiver varieties. The cohomology ring of an algebraic symplectic variety can be interpreted as the Hochschild cohomology of a quantization of this variety in the sense of Bezrukavnikov and Kaledin. On the other hand, cyclotomic KLR a…
Given a quiver with potential $(Q,W)$, Kontsevich-Soibelman constructed a Hall algebra on the critical cohomology of the stack of representations of $(Q,W)$. Special cases of this construction are related to work of Nakajima, Varagnolo, Schiffmann-Vasserot, Maulik-Okounkov, Yang-Zhao etc. about geometric constructions of Yangians and their representations; indeed, given a quiver $Q$, there exists an associated pair $\left(\widetilde{Q},\widetilde{W}\right)$ whose CoHA is conjecturally the positive half of the Maulik-Okounkov Yangian $Y_{\text{MO}}(\mathfrak{g}_Q)$. For a quiver with potential …
For a quiver with potential, we can associate a vanishing cycle to each representation space. If there is a nice torus action on the potential, the vanishing cycles can be expressed in terms of truncated Jacobian algebras. We study how these vanishing cycles change under the mutation of Derksen-Weyman-Zelevinsky. The wall-crossing formula leads to a categorification of quantum cluster algebras under some assumption. This is a special case of A. Efimov's result, but our approach is more concrete and down-to-earth. We also obtain a counting formula relating the representation Grassmannians under…
