Let S and T be vectors of positive integers with the same sum. We study the uniform distribution on the space of simple bipartite graphs with degree sequence S in one part and T in the other; equivalently, binary matrices with row sums S and column sums T. In particular, we find precise formulae for the probabilities that a given bipartite graph is edge-disjoint from, a subgraph of, or an induced subgraph of a random graph in the class. We also give similar formulae for the uniform distribution on the set of simple directed graphs with out-degrees S and in-degrees T. In each case, the graphs or digraphs are required to be sufficiently dense, with the degrees varying within certain limits, and the subgraphs are required to be sufficiently sparse. Previous results were restricted to spaces of sparse graphs. Our theorems are based on an enumeration of bipartite graphs avoiding a given set of edges, proved by multidimensional complex integration. As a sample application, we determine the expected permanent of a random binary matrix with row sums S and column sums T.
We identify the asymptotic distribution of $p$-rank of the sandpile group of a random directed bipartite graphs which are not too imbalanced. We show this matches exactly that of the Erd{ö}s-R{é}nyi random directed graph model, suggesting the Sylow $p$-subgroups of this model may also be Cohen-Lenstra distributed. Our work builds on results of Koplewitz who studied $p$-rank distributions for unbalanced random bipartite graphs, and showed that for sufficiently unbalanced graphs, the distribution of $p$-rank differs from the Cohen-Lenstra distribution. Koplewitz \cite{K} conjectured that for ran…
In this paper we obtain a new sufficient condition for the existence of directed cycles of length 4 in oriented bipartite graphs. As a corollary, a conjecture of H. Li is confirmed. As an application, a sufficient condition for the existence of rainbow cycles of length 4 in bipartite edge-colored graphs is obtained.
The strong geodetic problem is a recent variation of the classical geodetic problem. For a graph $G$, its strong geodetic number ${\rm sg}(G)$ is the cardinality of a smallest vertex subset $S$, such that each vertex of $G$ lies on one fixed geodesic between a pair of vertices from $S$. In this paper, some general properties of the strong geodesic problem are studied, especially in connection with diameter of a graph. The problem is also solved for balanced complete bipartite graphs.
For two integers $n\geq 3$ and $2\leq p\leq n$, we denote $D(n,p)$ the digraph obtained from a directed $n$-cycle by changing the orientations of $p-1$ consecutive arcs. In this paper, we show that a family of $k$-regular $(k\geq 3)$ bipartite tournament $BT_{4k}$ contains $D(4k,p)$ for all $2\leq p\leq 4k$ unless $BT_{4k}$ is isomorphic to a digraph $D$ such that $(1,2,3,...,4k,1)$ is a Hamilton cycle and $(4m+i-1,i)\in A(D)$ and $(i,4m+i+1)\in A(D)$, where $1\leq m\leq k-1$.
A $\overrightarrow{P_{3}}$-decomposition of a directed graph $D$ is a partition of the arcs of $D$ into directed paths of length $2$. In this paper, we give a characterization for a tournament and a bipartite digraph admitting a $\overrightarrow{P_{3}}$-decomposition. This solves a problem posed by Diwan ($\overrightarrow{P_{3}}$-decomposition of directed graphs, Discrete Appl. Math., http:// dx.doi.org/10.1016/j.dam.2016.01.039.).
The Caccetta-Häggkvist conjecture implies that for every integer $k\ge 1$, if $G$ is a bipartite digraph, with $n$ vertices in each part, and every vertex has out-degree more than $n/(k+1)$, then $G$ has a directed cycle of length at most $2k$. If true this is best possible, and we prove this for $k = 1,2,3,4,6$ and all $k\ge 224,539$. More generally, we conjecture that for every integer $k\ge 1$, and every pair of reals $α, β> 0$ with $kα+β>1$, if $G$ is a bipartite digraph with bipartition $(A,B)$, where every vertex in $A$ has out-degree at least $β|B|$, and every vertex in $B$ has out-degr…
Let $k$ be a positive integer. Let $G$ be a balanced bipartite graph of order $2n$ with bipartition $(X, Y)$, and $S$ a subset of $X$. Suppose that every pair of nonadjacent vertices $(x,y)$ with $x\in S, y\in Y$ satisfies $d(x)+d(y)\geq n+1$. We show that if $|S|\geq 2k+2$, then $G$ contains $k$ disjoint cycles covering $S$ such that each of the $k$ cycles contains at least two vertices of $S$. Here, both the degree condition and the lower bound of $|S|$ are best possible. And we also show that if $|S|=2k+1$, then $G$ contains $k$ disjoint cycles such that each of the $k$ cycles contains at l…
In this paper, we give the following result: If $D$ is a digraph of order $n$, and if $d_{D}^{+}(u) + d_{D}^{-}(v) \ge n$ for every two distinct vertices $u$ and $v$ with $(u, v) \notin A(D)$, then $D$ has a directed $2$-factor with exactly $k$ directed cycles of length at least $3$, where $n \ge 12k+3$. This result is equivalent to the following result: If $G$ is a balanced bipartite graph of order $2n$ with partite sets $X$ and $Y$, and if $d_{G}(x)+d_{G}(y) \ge n + 2$ for every two vertices $x \in X$ and $y \in Y$ with $xy \notin E(G)$, then for every perfect matching $M$, $G$ has a $2$-fac…
In 1972, Woodall raised the following Ore type condition for directed Hamilton cycles in digraphs: Let $D$ be a digraph. If for every vertex pair $u$ and $v$, where there is no arc from $u$ to $v$, we have $d^+u)+d^-(v)\geq |D|$, then $D$ has a directed Hamilton cycle. By a correspondence between bipartite graphs and digraphs, the above result is equivalent to the following result of Las Vergnas: Let $G = (B,W)$ be a balanced bipartite graph. If for any $b \in B$ and $w \in W$, where $b$ and $w$ are nonadjacent, we have $d(w)+d(b) \geq |G|/2 + 1$, then every perfect matching of $G$ is containe…
Given an Eulerian digraph, we consider the genus distribution of its face-oriented embeddings. We prove that such distribution is log-concave for two families of Eulerian digraphs, thus giving a positive answer for these families to a question asked in Bonnington, Conder, Morton and McKenna (2002). Our proof uses real-rooted polynomials and the representation theory of the symmetric group $\mathbb{S}_n$. The result is also extended to some factorizations of the identity in $\mathbb{S}_n$ that are rotation systems of some families of one-face constellations.
Since 1997 a considerable effort has been spent on the study of the swap (switch) Markov chains on graphic degree sequences. Several results were proved on rapidly mixing Markov chains on regular simple, on regular directed, on half-regular directed and on half-regular bipartite degree sequences. In this paper, the main result is the following: Let $U$ and $V$ be disjoint finite sets, and let $0 < c_1 \le c_2 < |U|$ and $0 < d_1 \le d_2 < |V|$ be integers. Furthermore, assume that the bipartite degree sequence on $U \cup V$ satisfies $c_1 \le d(v) \le c_2\ : \ \forall v\in V$ and $d_1 \le d(u)…
F-nomial coefficients encompass among others well-known binomial coefficients or Gaussian coefficients that count subsets of finite set and subspaces of finite vector space respectively. Here, the so called F-cobweb tiling sequences N(a) are considered. For such specific sequences a new interpretation with respect to Kwasniewski general combinatorial interpretation of F-nomial coefficients is unearhed. Namely, for tiling sequences F = N(a)$ the F-nomial coefficients are equal to the number of labeled special bipartite multigraphs denoted here as a-multigraphs G(a,n,k). An explicit relation bet…
We study minimal free resolutions of edge ideals of bipartite graphs. We associate a directed graph to a bipartite graph whose edge ideal is unmixed, and give expressions for the regularity and the depth of the edge ideal in terms of invariants of the directed graph. For some classes of unmixed edge ideals, we show that the arithmetic rank of the ideal equals projective dimension of its quotient.
Given a 0-1 square matrix A, when can some of the 1's be changed to -1's in such a way that the permanent of A equals the determinant of the modified matrix? When does a real square matrix have the property that every real matrix with the same sign pattern (that is, the corresponding entries either have the same sign or are both zero) is nonsingular? When is a hypergraph with n vertices and n hyperedges minimally nonbipartite? When does a bipartite graph have a "Pfaffian orientation"? Given a digraph, does it have no directed circuit of even length? Given a digraph, does it have a subdivision …
Let $D$ be a strongly connected balanced bipartite directed graph of order $2a\geq 10$ other than a directed cycle. Let $x,y$ be distinct vertices in $D$. $\{x,y\}$ dominates a vertex $z$ if $x\rightarrow z$ and $y\rightarrow z$; in this case, we call the pair $\{x,y\}$ dominating. In this paper we prove: If $ max\{d(x), d(y)\}\geq 2a-2$ for every dominating pair of vertices $\{x,y\}$, then $D$ contains cycles of all lengths $2,4, \ldots , 2a-2$ or $D$ is isomorphic to a certain digraph of order ten which we specify.
We prove that every Eulerian orientation of $K_{m,n}$ contains $\frac{1}{4+\sqrt{8}}mn(1-o(1))$ arc-disjoint directed 4-cycles, improving earlier lower bounds. Combined with a probabilistic argument, this result is used to prove that every regular tournament with $n$ vertices contains $\frac{1}{8+\sqrt{32}}n^2(1-o(1))$ arc-disjoint directed 4-cycles. The result is also used to provide an upper bound for the distance between two antipodal vertices in interchange graphs.
We introduce a new notation for representing labeled regular bipartite graphs of arbitrary degree. Several enumeration problems for labeled and unlabeled regular bipartite graphs have been introduced. A general algorithm for enumerating all non-isomorphic 2-regular bipartite graphs for a specified number of vertices has been described and a mathematical proof has been provided for its completeness. An abstraction of m Symmetric Permutation Tree in order to visualize a labeled r-Regular Bipartite Graph with 2m vertices and enumerate its automorphism group has been introduced. An algorithm to ge…
A connected graph G is called matching covered if every edge of G is contained in a perfect matching. Perfect matching width is a width parameter for matching covered graphs based on a branch decomposition. It was introduced by Norine and intended as a tool for the structural study of matching covered graphs, especially in the context of Pfaffian orientations. Norine conjectured that graphs of high perfect matching width would contain a large grid as a matching minor, similar to the result on treewidth by Robertson and Seymour. In this paper we obtain the first results on perfect matching widt…
We prove that a strongly connected balanced bipartite directed graph of order $2a\geq 6$ with partite sets $X$ and $Y$ contains cycles of every length $2, 4, \ldots , 2a$, provided $d(x)+d(y)\geq 3a$ for every pair of vertices $x$, $y$ either both in $X$ or both in $Y$.
We prove the multiplicity bounds conjectured by Herzog-Huneke-Srinivasan and Herzog-Srinivasan in the following cases: the strong conjecture for edge ideals of bipartite graphs, and the weaker Taylor bound conjecture for all quadratic monomial ideals. We attach a directed graph to a bipartite graph with perfect matching, and describe operations on the directed graph that would reduce the problem to a Cohen-Macaulay bipartite graph. We determine when equality holds in the conjectured bound for edge ideals of bipartite graphs, and verify that when equality holds, the resolution is pure. We chara…
We prove two sharp sufficient conditions for hamiltonian cycles in balanced bipartite directed graph. Let $D$ be a strongly connected balanced bipartite directed graph of order $2a$. Let $x,y$ be distinct vertices in $D$. $\{x,y\}$ dominates a vertex $z$ if $x\rightarrow z$ and $y\rightarrow z$; in this case, we call the pair $\{x,y\}$ dominating. (i) {\it If $a\geq 4$ and $max \{d(x), d(y)\}\geq 2a-1$ for every dominating pair of vertices $\{x,y\}$, then either $D$ is hamiltonian or $D$ is isomorphic to one exceptional digraph of order eight.} (ii) {\it If $a\geq 5$ and $d(x)+d(y)\geq 4a-3$ f…
The \emph{Antimagic Graph Conjecture} asserts that every connected graph $G = (V, E)$ except $K_2$ admits an edge labeling such that each label $1, 2, ..., |E|$ is used exactly once and the sums of the labels on all edges incident with a given node are distinct. We study an associated counting function (replacing the upper bound on the possible labels by a variable) and prove that a variant of this counting function, when we do not require the labels to be distinct, is a polynomial if $G$ is bipartite. As a consequence, we show that every connected bipartite graph $G = (V, E)$ except $K_2$ adm…
Let d = (d1, d2, ..., dn) be a vector of non-negative integers with even sum. We prove some basic facts about the structure of a random graph with degree sequence d, including the probability of a given subgraph or induced subgraph. Although there are many results of this kind, they are restricted to the sparse case with only a few exceptions. Our focus is instead on the case where the average degree is approximately a constant fraction of n. Our approach is the multidimensional saddle-point method. This extends the enumerative work of McKay and Wormald (1990) and is analogous to the theory de…
The set of all perfect matchings of a plane (weakly) elementary bipartite graph equipped with a partial order is a poset, moreover the poset is a finite distributive lattice and its Hasse diagram is isomorphic to $Z$-transformation directed graph of the graph. A finite distributive lattice is matchable if its Hasse diagram is isomorphic to a $Z$-transformation directed graph of a plane weakly elementary bipartite graph, otherwise non-matchable. We introduce the meet-irreducible cell with respect to a perfect matching of a plane (weakly) elementary bipartite graph and give its equivalent charac…
We investigate the joint distribution of the vertex degrees in three models of random bipartite graphs. Namely, we can choose each edge with a specified probability, choose a specified number of edges, or specify the vertex degrees in one of the two colour classes. This problem can alternatively be described in terms of the row and sum columns of random binary matrix or the in-degrees and out-degrees of a random digraph, in which case we can optionally forbid loops. It can also be cast as a problem in random hypergraphs, or as a classical occupancy, allocation, or coupon collection problem. In…
Let $d\geq 3$ be a fixed integer, and a prime number $p$ such that $\gcd(p,d)=1$. Let $A$ be the adjacency matrix of a random $d$-regular directed graph on $n$ vertices. We show that as a random matrix in ${\mathbb F}_p$, \begin{equation} {\mathbb P}(\text{$A$ is singular in ${\mathbb F}_p$})\leq \frac{1+{\mathrm{o}}(1)}{p-1}, \end{equation} as $n$ goes to infinity. As a consequence, as a random matrix in $\mathbb R$, \begin{equation} {\mathbb P}(\text{$A$ is singular in $\mathbb R$})={\mathrm{o}}(1) \end{equation} as $n$ goes to infinity. This answers an open problem by Frieze [12] and Vu [29…
Gallai-colorings are edge-colored complete graphs in which there are no rainbow triangles. Within such colored complete graphs, we consider Ramsey-type questions, looking for specified monochromatic graphs. In this work, we consider monochromatic bipartite graphs since the numbers are known to grow more slowly than for non-bipartite graphs. The main result shows that it suffices to consider only $3$-colorings which have a special partition of the vertices. Using this tool, we find several sharp numbers and conjecture the sharp value for all bipartite graphs. In particular, we determine the Gal…
We give a complete characterization of bipartite graphs having tree-like Galois lattices. We prove that the poset obtained by deleting bottom and top elements from the Galois lattice of a bipartite graph is tree-like if and only if the graph is a Bipartite Distance Hereditary graph. By relying on the interplay between bipartite distance hereditary graphs and series-parallel graphs, we show that the lattice can be realized as the containment relation among directed paths in an arborescence. Moreover, a compact encoding of Bipartite Distance Hereditary graphs is proposed, that allows optimal tim…
We unify and extend previous bijections on plane quadrangulations to bipartite and quasibipartite plane maps. Starting from a bipartite plane map with a distinguished edge and two distinguished corners (in the same face or in two different faces), we build a new plane map with a distinguished vertex and two distinguished half-edges directed toward the vertex. The faces of the new map have the same degree as those of the original map, except at the locations of the distinguished corners, where each receives an extra degree. The idea behind this bijection is to build a path from the distinguishe…
The aim of this paper is to show that any finite undirected bipartite graph can be considered as a polynomial $p \in \mathbb{N}[x]$, and any directed finite bipartite graph can be considered as a polynomial $p\in\mathbb{N}[x,y]$, and vise verse. We also show that the multiplication in semirings $\mathbb{N}[x]$, $\mathbb{N}[x,y]$ correspondences to a operations of the corresponding graphs which looks like a ``perturbed'' products of graphs. As an application, we give a new point of view to dividing in semirings $\mathbb{N}[x]$, $\mathbb{N}[x,y]$. Finally, we endow the set of all bipartite graph…
We give an upper bound on the number of perfect matchings in simple graphs with a given number of vertices and edges. We apply this result to give an upper bound on the number of 2-factors in a directed complete bipartite balanced graph on 2n vertices. The upper bound is sharp for n even. For n odd we state a conjecture on a sharp upper bound.
In this paper we show a correspondence between directed graphs and bipartite undirected graphs with a perfect matching, that allows to study properties of directed graphs through the properties of the corresponding undirected graphs. In particular it is shown that a directed graph is transitive iff a corresponding undirected graph is Cohen-Macaulay.
Let $D$ be a strongly connected balanced bipartite directed graph of order $2a\geq 10$. Let $x,y$ be distinct vertices in $D$. $\{x,y\}$ dominates a vertex $z$ if $x\rightarrow z$ and $y\rightarrow z$; in this case, we call the pair $\{x,y\}$ dominating. In this paper we prove: {\it If the underlying undirected graph of $D$ is not 2-connected and $max\{d(x), d(y)\}\geq 2a-2$ for every dominating pair of vertices $\{x,y\}$, then $D$ contains a cycle of length $2a-2$ unless $D$ is isomorphic to a certain digraph of order ten which we specify.
A directed dominating set in a directed graph $D$ is a set $S$ of vertices of $V$ such that every vertex $u \in V(D) \setminus S$ has an adjacent vertex $v$ in $S$ with $v$ directed to $u$. The directed domination number of $D$, denoted by $γ(D)$, is the minimum cardinality of a directed dominating set in $D$. The directed domination number of a graph $G$, denoted $Γ_d(G)$, which is the maximum directed domination number $γ(D)$ over all orientations $D$ of $G$. The directed domination number of a complete graph was first studied by Erdös [Math. Gaz. 47 (1963), 220--222], albeit in disguised fo…
An antimagic labeling of a directed graph $D$ with $n$ vertices and $m$ arcs is a bijection from the set of arcs of $D$ to the integers $\{1, \cdots, m\}$ such that all $n$ oriented vertex sums are pairwise distinct, where an oriented vertex sum is the sum of labels of all arcs entering that vertex minus the sum of labels of all arcs leaving it. An undirected graph $G$ is said to have an antimagic orientation if $G$ has an orientation which admits an antimagic labeling. Hefetz, M{ü}tze, and Schwartz conjectured that every connected undirected graph admits an antimagic orientation. In this pape…
In this paper we initialize the study of independent domination in directed graphs. We show that an independent dominating set of an orientation of a graph is also an independent dominating set of the underlying graph, but that the converse is not true in general. We then prove existence and uniqueness theorems for several classes of digraphs including orientations of complete graphs, paths, trees, DAGs, cycles, and bipartite graphs. We also provide the idomatic number for special cases of some of these families of digraphs.
The Dulmage--Mendelsohn decomposition (or the DM-decomposition) gives a unique partition of the vertex set of a bipartite graph reflecting the structure of all the maximum matchings therein. A bipartite graph is said to be DM-irreducible if its DM-decomposition consists of a single component. In this paper, we focus on the problem of making a given bipartite graph DM-irreducible by adding edges. When the input bipartite graph is balanced (i.e., both sides have the same number of vertices) and has a perfect matching, this problem is equivalent to making a directed graph strongly connected by ad…
A constructive method is provided that outputs a directed graph which is named a broken crown graph, containing $5n-9$ vertices and $k$ Hamiltonian cycles for any choice of integers $n \geq k \geq 4$. The construction is not designed to be minimal in any sense, but rather to ensure that the graphs produced remain non-trivial instances of the Hamiltonian cycle problem even when $k$ is chosen to be much smaller than $n$.
Alon and Yuster proved that the number of orientations of any $n$-vertex graph in which every $K_3$ is transitively oriented is at most $2^{\lfloor n^2/4\rfloor}$ for $n \geq 10^4$ and conjectured that the precise lower bound on $n$ should be $n \geq 8$. We confirm their conjecture and, additionally, characterize the extremal families by showing that the balanced complete bipartite graph with $n$ vertices is the only $n$-vertex graph for which there are exactly $2^{\lfloor n^2/4\rfloor}$ such orientations.
In 1988, Duval introduced the concept of directed strongly regular graphs, which can be viewed as a directed graph version of strongly regular graphs. Such directed graphs have similar structural and algebraic properties to strongly regular graphs. In the past three decades, it was found that Cayley graphs, especially those over dihedral groups, play a key role in the construction of directed strongly regular graphs. In this paper, we focus on the characterization of directed strongly regular Cayley graphs over more general groups. Let $G$ be a non-abelian group with an abelian subgroup of ind…
A major step in the graph minors theory of Robertson and Seymour is the transition from the Grid Theorem which, in some sense uniquely, describes areas of large treewidth within a graph, to a notion of local flatness of these areas in form of the existence of a large flat wall within any huge grid of an H-minor free graph. In this paper, we prove a matching theoretic analogue of the Flat Wall Theorem for bipartite graphs excluding a fixed matching minor. Our result builds on a a tight relationship between structural digraph theory and matching theory and allows us to deduce a Flat Wall Theorem…
Let $f:V \rightarrow \mathbb{N}$ be a function on the vertex set of the graph $G=(V,E)$. The graph $G$ is {\em $f$-choosable} if for every collection of lists with list sizes specified by $f$ there is a proper coloring using colors from the lists. The sum choice number, $χ_{sc}(G)$, is the minimum of $\sum f(v)$, over all functions $f$ such that $G$ is $f$-choosable. It is known (Alon 1993, 2000) that if $G$ has average degree $d$, then the usual choice number $χ_\ell(G)$ is at least $Ω(\log d)$, so they grow simultaneously. In this paper we show that $χ_{sc}(G)/|V(G)|$ can be bounded while th…
In this paper, we deal with a generalization $Γ(Ω,q)$ of the bipartite graphs $D(k,q)$ proposed by Lazebnik and Ustimenko, where $Ω$ is a set of binary sequences that are adopted to index the entries of the vertices. A few sufficient conditions on $Ω$ for $Γ(Ω,q)$ to admit a variety of automorphisms are proposed. A sufficient condition for $Γ(Ω,q)$ to be edge-transitive is proposed further. A lower bound of the number of the connected components of $Γ(Ω,q)$ is given by showing some invariants for the components. For $Γ(Ω,q)$, paths and cycles which contain vertices of some specified form are i…
We are interested in the statistics of the length of the longest increasing subsequence of 2-rowed lexicographically sorted arrays chosen according to distinct families of distributions D = (D_n)_n, and when n goes to infinity. This framework encompasses well studied problems such as the so called Longest Increasing Subsequence problem, the Longest Common Subsequence problem, problems concerning directed bond percolation models, among others. We define several natural families of distinct distributions and characterize the asymptotic behavior of the expected length of a longest increasing subs…
The class of Bipartite Distance Hereditary (BDH) graphs is the intersection between bipartite domino-free and chordal bipartite graphs.\ Graphs in both the latter classes have linearly many maximal bicliques, implying the existence of polynomial-time algorithms for computing the associated Galois lattice.\ Such a lattice can indeed be built in $O(m\times n)$ worst case-time for a domino-free graph with $m$ edges and $n$ vertices.\ In this paper we give a sharp estimate on the number of the maximal bicliques of BDH graphs and exploit such result to give an $O(m)$ worst case time algorithm for c…
This paper is the first from a series of papers that provide a characterization of maximum packings of $T$-cuts in bipartite graphs. Given a connected graph, a set $T$ of an even number of vertices, and a minimum $T$-join, an edge weighting can be defined, from which distances between vertices can be defined. Furthermore, given a specified vertex called root, vertices can be classified according to their distances from the root, and this classification of vertices can be used to define a family of subgraphs called {\em distance components}. Sebö provided a theorem that revealed a relationship …
In this work we present a version of the so called Chen and Chvátal's conjecture for directed graphs. A line of a directed graph D is defined by an ordered pair (u, v), with u and v two distinct vertices of D, as the set of all vertices w such that u, v, w belong to a shortest directed path in D containing a shortest directed path from u to v. A line is empty if there is no directed path from u to v. Another option is that a line is the set of all vertices. The version of the Chen and Chvátal's conjecture we study states that if none of previous options hold, then the number of distinct lines …
A hypergraph is simple if it has no loops and no repeated edges, and a hypergraph is linear if it is simple and each pair of edges intersects in at most one vertex. For $n\geq 3$, let $r= r(n)\geq 3$ be an integer and let $\boldsymbol{k} = (k_1,\ldots, k_n)$ be a vector of nonnegative integers, where each $k_j = k_j(n)$ may depend on $n$. Let $M = M(n) = \sum_{j=1}^n k_j$ for all $n\geq 3$, and define the set $\mathcal{I} = \{ n\geq 3 \mid r(n) \text{ divides } M(n)\}$. We assume that $\mathcal{I}$ is infinite, and perform asymptotics as $n$ tends to infinity along $\mathcal{I}$. Our main resu…
Directed graphs are ubiquitous models for networks, and topological spaces they generate, such as the directed flag complex, have become useful objects in applied topology. The simplices are formed from directed cliques. We extend Atkin's theory of $q$-connectivity to the case of directed simplices. This results in a preorder where simplices are related by sequences of simplices that share a $q$-face with respect to directions specified by chosen face maps. We leverage the Alexandroff equivalence between preorders and topological spaces to introduce a new class of topological spaces for direct…
