Let C be a general curve. Mukai asked whether for every stable rank 2 vector bundle E on C with det(E) = K, the multiplication map
Sym^2 H^0(C,E) --> H^0(C, Sym^2 E) is injective. We observe that this holds when h^0(E) < 7 .
For a log Fano manifold (X, D) with D\neq 0 and with the log Fano pseudoindex \geq 2, we prove that the restriction homomorphism Pic(X)\to Pic(D_1) of Picard groups is injective for any irreducible component D_1\subset D.The strategy of our proof is to run a certain minimal model program and is similar to the argument of Casagrande's one. As a corollary, we prove that the Mukai conjecture (resp. the generalized Mukai conjecture) implies the log Mukai conjecture (resp. the log generalized Mukai conjecture).
In the first part of this paper we will prove the Voevodsky's nilpotence conjecture for smooth cubic fourfolds and ordinary generic Gushel-Mukai fourfolds. Then, making use of noncommutative motives, we will prove the Voevodsky's nilpotence conjecture for generic Gushel-Mukai fourfolds containing a $τ$-plane $\G(2,3)$ and for ordinary Gushel-Mukai fourfolds containing a quintic del Pezzo surface.
Let X be a Fano variety of dimension n, pseudoindex i_X and Picard number ρ_X. A generalization of a conjecture of Mukai says that ρ_X(i_X-1)\le n. We prove that the conjecture holds if: a) X has pseudoindex i_X \ge \frac{n+3}{3} and either has a fiber type extremal contraction or does not have small extremal contractions b) X has dimension five.
As a generalization of the Mukai conjecture, we conjecture that the Fano manifolds $X$ which satisfy the property $ρ_X(r_X-1)\geq\dim X-1$ have very special structure, where $ρ_X$ is the Picard number of $X$ and $r_X$ is the index of $X$. In this paper, we classify those $X$ if $ρ_X\leq 3$ or $\dim X\leq 5$.
In this paper, we prove the existence portion of the Bertram-Feinberg-Mukai Conjecture for an infinite family of new cases using degeneration technique. This not only leads to a substantial improvement of known results but also develops finer tools for analyzing the moduli of rank two limit linear series which should be useful for other applications to other higher-rank Brill-Noether Problems.
We associate to any complete spherical variety $X$ a certain nonnegative rational number $\wp(X)$, which we conjecture to satisfy the inequality $\wp(X) \le \operatorname{dim} X - \operatorname{rank} X$ with equality holding if and only if $X$ is isomorphic to a toric variety. We show that, for spherical varieties, our conjecture implies the generalized Mukai conjecture on the pseudo-index of smooth Fano varieties due to Bonavero, Casagrande, Debarre, and Druel. We also deduce from our conjecture a smoothness criterion for spherical varieties. It follows from the work of Pasquier that our conj…
Generalizing a question of Mukai, we conjecture that a Fano manifold $X$ with Picard number $ρ_X$ and pseudo-index $ι_X$ satisfies $ρ_X (ι_X-1) \le \dim(X)$. We prove this inequality in several situations: $X$ is a Fano manifold of dimension $\le 4$, $X$ is a toric Fano manifold of dimension $\le 7$ or $X$ is a toric Fano manifold of arbitrary dimension with $ι_X \ge \dim(X)/3+1$. Finally, we offer a new approach to the general case.
Let X be a complex Fano manifold of dimension n. Let s(X) be the sum of l(R)-1 for all the extremal rays of X, the edges of the cone NE(X) of curves of X, where l(R) denotes the minimum of (-K_X \cdot C) for all rational curves C whose class [C] belongs to R. We show that s(X)\leq n if n\leq 4. And for n\leq 4, we completely classify the case the equality holds. This is a refinement of the Mukai conjecture on Fano fourfolds.
We study the Hilbert scheme $\mathcal{H}$ of twisted cubics on a special smooth Gushel-Mukai threefolds $X_{10}$. We show that it is a smooth irreducible projective threefold if $X_{10}$ is general among special Gushel-Mukai threefolds, while it is singular if $X_{10}$ is not general. We construct an irreducible component of a moduli space of Bridgeland stable objects in the Kuznetsov component of $X_{10}$ as a divisorial contraction of $\mathcal{H}$. We also identify the minimal model of Fano surface $\mathcal{C}(X_{10}')$ of conics on a smooth ordinary Gushel-Mukai threefold with moduli spac…
We investigate geometric invariants of the one parameter family of Mukai threefolds that admit $\mathbb C^{*}$ action. In particular we find the invariant divisors in the anticanonical system, and thus establish a bound on the log canonical thresholds. Furthermore we find an explicit description of such threefolds in terms of the quartic associated to the variety-of-sum-of-powers construction. This yields that any such threefold admits an additional symmetry which anticommutes with the $\mathbb C^{*}$ action, a fact that was previously observed near the Mukai-Umemura threefold by Rollin, Siman…
This paper studies stable sheaves on abelian surfaces of Picard number one. Our main tools are semi-homogeneous sheaves and Fourier-Mukai transforms. We introduce the notion of semi-homogeneous presentation and investigate the behavior of stable sheaves under Fourier-Mukai transforms. As a consequence, an affirmative proof is given to the conjecture proposed by Mukai in the 1980s. This paper also includes an explicit description of the birational correspondence between the moduli spaces of stable sheaves and the Hilbert schemes.
Let S be a K3 surface and assume for simplicity that it does not contain any (-2)-curve. Using coherent systems, we express every non-simple Lazarsfeld-Mukai bundle on S as an extension of two sheaves of some special type, that we refer to as generalized Lazarsfeld-Mukai bundles. This has interesting consequences concerning the Brill-Noether theory of curves C lying on S. From now on, let g denote the genus of C and A be a complete linear series of type g^r_d on C such that d<= g-1 and the corresponding Brill-Noether number is negative. First, we focus on the cases where A computes the Cliffor…
In this paper we prove some results about K3 surfaces with Picard number 1 and 2. In particular, we give a new simple proof of a theorem due to Oguiso which shows that, given an integer $N$, there is a K3 surface with Picard number 2 and at least $N$ non-isomorphic FM-partners. We describe also the Mukai vectors of the moduli spaces associated to the Fourier-Mukai partners of K3 surfaces with Picard number 1.
Frequentely it happens that isogenous (in the sense of Mukai) K3 surfaces are partners of each other and sometimes they are even isomorphic. This is due, in some cases, to the (too high, e.g. bigger then or equal to 12) rank of the Picard lattice as showed by Mukai in [Muk3]. In other cases this is due to the structure of the Picard lattice and not only on its rank. This is the case, for example, of K3s with Picard lattice containing a latice of Todorov type (0,9) or (0,10)
Spectral transformation is known to set up a birational morphism between the Hitchin and Beauville-Mukai integrable systems. The corresponding phase spaces are: (a) the cotangent bundle of the moduli space of bundles over a curve C, and (b) a symmetric power of the cotangent surface T^*(C). We conjecture that this morphism can be quantized, and we check this conjecture in the case where C is a rational curve with marked points and rank 2 bundles. We discuss the relation of the resulting isomorphism of quantized algebras with Sklyanin's separation of variables.
We prove two results. First, we establish that the normal bundle of any smooth curve of genus 7 having maximal Clifford index is stable. Note that 7 is the smallest genus for which such a result could possibly hold. We then show that rank four Lazarsfeld-Mukai vector bundles on a curve that lies on a general K3 surface are stable. Both results have consequences for Mercat's conjecture on higher rank vector bundles on generic curves.
Given an ample line bundle L on a K3 surface S, we study the slope stability with respect to L of rank-3 Lazarsfeld-Mukai bundles associated with complete, base point free nets of type g^2_d on curves C in the linear system |L|. When d is large enough and C is general, we obtain a dimensional statement for the variety W^2_d(C). If the Brill-Noether number is negative, we prove that any g^2_d on any smooth, irreducible curve in |L| is contained in a g^r_e which is induced from a line bundle on S, thus answering a conjecture of Donagi and Morrison. Applications towards transversality of Brill-No…
Assuming the standard framework of mirror symmetry, a conjecture is formulated describing how the diffeomorphism group of a Calabi-Yau manifold Y should act by families of Fourier-Mukai transforms over the complex moduli space of the mirror X. The conjecture generalizes a proposal of Kontsevich relating monodromy transformations and self-equivalences. Supporting evidence is given in the case of elliptic curves, lattice-polarized K3 surfaces and Calabi-Yau threefolds. A relation to the global Torelli problem is discussed.
We study the interplay between the Fourier-Mukai transform and the decomposition theorem for an integrable system $π: M \rightarrow B$. Our main conjecture is that the Fourier-Mukai transform of sheaves of Kähler differentials, after restriction to the formal neighborhood of the zero section, are quantized by the Hodge modules arising in the decomposition theorem for $π$. For an integrable system, our formulation unifies the Fourier-Mukai calculation of the structure sheaf by Arinkin-Fedorov, the theorem of the higher direct images by Matsushita, and the "perverse = Hodge" identity by the seco…
O'Grady conjectured that the Chow group of 0-cycles of the generic fiber of the universal family over the moduli space of polarized K3 surfaces of genus g is cyclic. This so-called generalized Franchetta conjecture has been solved only for low genera where there is a Mukai model (precisely, when g<11 and g=12, 13, 16, 18, 20), by the work of Pavic--Shen--Yin. In this paper, as a non-commutative analog, we study the Franchetta property for families of special cubic fourfolds (in the sense of Hassett) and relate it to O'Grady's conjecture for K3 surfaces. Most notably, by using special cubic fou…
To every reduced (projective) curve X with planar singularities one can associate many fine compactified Jacobians, depending on the choice of a polarization on X, which are birational (possibly non-isomorphic) Calabi-Yau projective varieties with locally complete intersection singularities. We define a Poincare' sheaf on the product of any two (possibly equal) fine compactified Jacobians of X and show that the integral transform with kernel the Poincare' sheaf is an equivalence of their derived categories. In particular, any two fine compactified Jacobians are derived equivalent. When applied…
For a vector bundle $\mathcal{E}$ of rank $n+1$ over a smooth projective curve $C$ of genus $g$, let $X=¶_C (\mathcal{E})$ with projection map $π:X\to C$. In this paper we investigate the minimal free resolution of homogeneous coordinate rings of $X$. We first clarify the relations between higher syzygies of very ample line bundles on $X$ and higher syzygies of Veronese embedding of fibres of $π$ by the same line bundle. More precisely, letting $H = \mathcal{O}_{¶_C (\mathcal{E})} (1)$ be the tautological line bundle, we prove that if $(¶^n,\mathcal{O}_{¶^n} (a))$ satisfies Property $N_p$, the…
We prove that Generalized Mukai Conjecture holds for Fano manifolds $X$ of pseudoindex $i_X \ge (\dim X +3)/3$. We also give different proofs of the conjecture for Fano fourfolds and fivefolds.
In this paper we study deformation classes of moduli spaces of sheaves on a projective K3 surface. More precisely, let $(S1,H1)$ and $(S2,H2)$ be two polarized K3 surfaces, $m\in\mathbb{N}$, and for $i=1,2$ let $mv_{i}$ be a Mukai vector on $S_{i}$ such that $H_{i}$ is $mv_{i}-$generic. Moreover, suppose that the moduli spaces $M_{mv_{1}}(S_{1},H_{1})$ of $H_{1}-$semistable sheaves on $S_{1}$ of Mukai vector $mv_{1}$ and $M_{mv_{2}}(S_{2},H_{2})$ of $H_{2}-$semistable sheaves on $S_{2}$ with Mukai vector $mv_{2}$, have the same dimension. The aim of this paper is to prove that $M_{mv_{1}}(S_{1…
We study Fano manifolds $X$ admitting an unsplit dominating family of rational curves and we prove that the Generalized Mukai Conjecture holds if $X$ has pseudoindex $i_X = (\dim X)/3$ or dimension $\dim X=6$. We also show that this conjecture is true for all Fano manifolds with $i_X > (\dim X)/3$.
A generalization of S. Mukai's conjecture says that if $X$ is a Fano $n$-fold with Picard number $ρ_X$ and pseudo-index $i_X$, then $ρ_X(i_X-1) \leq n$, with equality if and only if $X \cong (\mathbb{P}^{i_X-1})^{ρ_X}$. In this paper, we prove that this conjecture holds if $n=6$ and either $X$ admits a contraction of fiber type or $X$ admits no small contractions.
We prove the Bertram-Feinberg-Mukai conjecture for a generic curve $C$ of genus $g$ and a semistable vector bundle $E$ of rank two and determinant $K$ on $C$, namely we prove the injectivity of the Petri-canonical map $S^2(H^0(E))\to H^0(S^2(E))$.
This paper establishes the correctness of a conjecture of Bertram-Feinberg and Mukai for a special class of globally generated rank-two bundles with canonical determinant over a generic Riemann surface of genus at least four.
We describe the spaces of minimal rank last syzygies for the Mukai Varieties of sectional genus 6,7 and 8. Based on this we show: 1. The first geometric syzygies of a general canonical curve of genus 6 form a non degenerate configuration of 5 lines in P^4. 2. The first geometric syzygies of a general canonical curve of genus 7 form a non degenerate, linearly normal, ruled surface of degree 84 on a spinor variety S in P^15. 3. The second geometric syzygies of a general canonical curve of genus 8 form a non degenerate configuration of 14 conics on a 2-uple embedded P^5 in P^20. This proves a nat…
We discuss the role of K3 surfaces in the context of Mercat's conjecture in higher rank Brill-Noether theory. Using liftings of Koszul classes, we show that Mercat's conjecture in rank 2 fails for any number of sections and for any gonality stratum along a Noether-Lefschetz divisor inside the locus of curves lying on K3 surfaces. Then we show that Mercat's conjecture in rank 3 fails even for curves lying on K3 surfaces with Picard number 1. Finally, we provide a detailed proof of Mercat's conjecture in rank 2 for general curves of genus 11, and describe explicitly the action of the Fourier-Muk…
We study the stability of the normal bundle of canonical genus $8$ curves and prove that on a general curve the bundle is stable. The proof rests on Mukai's description of these curves as linear sections of a Grassmannian $\mathrm{G}(2,6)$. This is the next case of a conjecture by M. Aprodu, G. Farkas, and A. Ortega: the general canonical curve of every genus $g \geq 7$ should have stable normal bundle. We also give some more evidence for this conjecture in higher genus.
We give examples over arbitrary fields of rings of invariants that are not finitely generated. The group involved can be as small as three copies of the additive group, as in Mukai's examples over the complex numbers. The failure of finite generation comes from certain elliptic fibrations or abelian surface fibrations having positive Mordell-Weil rank. Our work suggests a generalization of the Morrison-Kawamata cone conjecture from Calabi-Yau varieties to klt Calabi-Yau pairs. We prove the conjecture in dimension 2 in the case of minimal rational elliptic surfaces.
We show that Grothendieck's standard conjectures are implied by either of two other motivic conjectures: (a) by that of the existence of the motivic t-structure, and (b) by (a weak form of) Suslin's Lawson homology conjecture.
We propose two conjectures of Hard Lefschetz type on Chow groups and prove them for some special cases. For abelian varieties, we shall show they are equivalent to well-known conjectures of Beauville and Murre.
We discuss a difference between the rational and the real non-vanishing conjecture for pseudo-effective log canonical divisors of log canonical pairs. We also show the log non-vanishing theorem for rationally connected varieties under assuming Shokurov's ACC conjectures.
We prove the abundance theorem for log canonical $n$-folds such that the boundary divisor is big assuming the abundance conjecture for log canonical $(n-1)$-folds. We also discuss the log minimal model program for log canonical $4$-folds.
We study the Lefschetz standard conjecture on a smooth complex projective variety X. In degree 2, we reduce it to a local statement concerning deformations of vector bundles on X. When X is hyperkähler, we show that the existence of nontrivial deformations of stable hyperholomorphic bundles implies the Lefschetz standard conjecture in codimension 2.
The Chisini conjecture asserts that a generic ramified covering over the complex projective plane of degree at least 5 is uniquely determined by its branch curve. We prove this for degree at least 12 using the work of Kulikov (math-AG/9803144).
After recalling the various tautological algebras of the moduli space of curves and some of its partial compactifications and stating several well-known results and conjectures concerning these algebras, we prove that the natural extension to the case of pointed curves of a 1996 conjecture of Hain and Looijenga is true if and only if two of the stated conjectures are true.
For certain product varieties, Murre's conjecture on Chow groups is investigated. In particular, it is proved that Murre's conjecture (B) is true for two kinds of four-folds. Precisely, if $C$ is a curve and $X$ is an elliptic modular threefold over $k$ (an algebraically closed field of characteristic 0) or an abelian variety of dimension 3, then Murre's conjecture (B) is true for the fourfold $X\times C.$
Serrrano's Conjecture says that if $L$ is a strictly nef line bundle on a smooth projective variety $X$, then $K_X+tL$ is ample for $ t > dim X+1$. In this paper I will prove a few cases of this conjecture. I will also prove a generalized version of this conjecture (due to Campana, Chen and Peternell) for surfaces. In the last section, assuming the SHGH conjecture, I will give a series of examples of strictly nef non ample divisors on surfaces of arbitary Kodaira dimension.
