We consider the problem of uniqueness of positive solutions to boundary value problems containing the equation: -Δ_p u =K(|x|)f(u), p>1. f is positive, is locally Lipschitz and satisfies some superlinear growth condition after u_0, a zero of f before which it is non positive and not identically 0. We show that the Sturmnian theory arguments used by Coffman and Kwong are valid for the equation containing the p-Laplacian operator, even though they were thought to be unextendable beyond the semilinear equation. We obtain a monotone separation result which finally yields the desired uniqueness results.
We establish existence and regularity of positive solutions for a class of quasilinear elliptic systems with singular and superlinear terms. The approach is based on sub-supersolution methods for systems of quasilinear singular equations and the Schauder's fixed point Theorem.
Results on existence and multiplicity of solutions for a nonlinear elliptic problem driven by the $Φ$-Laplace operator are established. We employ minimization arguments on suitable Nehari manifolds to build a negative and a positive ground state solutions. In order to find a nodal solution we employ additionally the well known Deformation Lemma and Topological Degree Theory.
In the present paper we deal with a quasilinear problem involving a singular term and a parametric superlinear perturbation. We are interested in the existence, nonexistence and multiplicity of positive solutions as the parameter $λ>0$ varies. In our first result, the superlinear perturbation has an arbitrary growth and we obtain the existence of a solution for the problem by using the sub-supersolution method. For the second result, the superlinear perturbation has subcritical growth and we employ the Mountain Pass Theorem to show the existence of a second solution.
We give a proof of existence and uniqueness of viscosity solutions to parabolic quasilinear equations for a fairly general class of nonconvex Hamiltonians with superlinear growth in the gradient variable. The approach is mainly based on classical techniques for uniformly parabolic quasilinear equations and on the Lipschitz estimates proved in [S.N. Armstrong and H.V. Tran, Viscosity solutions of general viscous Hamilton-Jacobi equations, Math. Ann., 361 (2015)], as well as on viscosity solution arguments.
We consider a superlinear perturbation of the eigenvalue problem for the Robin Laplacian plus an indefinite and unbounded potential. Using variational tools and critical groups, we show that when $λ$ is close to a nonprincipal eigenvalue, then the problem has seven nontrivial solutions. We provide sign information for six of them.
We establish uniqueness results for quasilinear elliptic problems through the criterion recently provided in \cite{DFMST}. We apply it to generalized $p$-Laplacian subhomogeneous problems that may admit multiple nontrivial nonnegative solutions. Based on a generalized hidden convexity result, we show that uniqueness holds among strongly positive solutions and nonnegative global minimizers. Problems involving nonhomogeneous operators as the so-called $(p,r)$-Laplacian are also treated.
The aim of this paper is analyzing existence, multiplicity, and regularity issues for the positive solutions of a Neumann boundary value problem of superlinear indefinite type related to the mean curvature operator with a sublinear potential at infinity.
This paper deals with existence of positive solutions for a class of quasilinear elliptic systems involving the $Φ$-Laplacian operator and convex-concave singular terms. Our approach is based on the generalized Galerkin Method along with perturbartion techniques and comparison arguments in the setting of Orlicz-Sobolev spaces
In the paper we consider a boundary value problem involving a differential equation with the fractional Laplacian $(-Δ)^{α/2}$ for $α\in\left( 1,2\right) $ and some superlinear and subcritical nonlinearity $G_{z}$ provided with a nonhomogeneous Dirichlet exterior boundary condition. Some sufficient conditions under which the set of weak solutions to the boundary value problem is nonempty and depends continuously in the Painleve-Kuratowski sense on distributed parameters and exterior boundary data are stated. The proofs of the existence results rely on the Mountain Pass Theorem. The application…
In this paper, using Mountain Pass Lemma and Linking Argument, we prove the existence of nontrivial weak solutions for the Dirichlet problem for the superlinear equation of Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg type in the case where the parameter $λ\in (0, λ_2)$, $λ_2$ is the second positive eigenvalue of the quasilinear elliptic equation of Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg type.
In this paper we give necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of solutions to quasilinear equations of Lane--Emden type with measure data on a Carnot group $\mathbb G$ of arbitrary step. The quasilinear part involves operators of the $p$-Laplacian type $Δ_{\mathbb G,\,p}\,$, $1<p<\infty$. These results are based on new a priori estimates of solutions in terms of nonlinear potentials of Th. Wolff's type. As a consequence, we characterize completely removable singularities, and prove a Liouville type theorem for supersolutions of quasilinear equations with source terms which has be…
We discuss the existence and uniqueness of the weak solution of the following quasilinear parabolic equation $u_t-Δ_{p(x)}u = f(x,u)$ in $ (0,T)\timesΩ$; $u = 0$ on $(0,T)\times\partialΩ$; $u(0,x)=u_0(x)$ in $Ω$; involving the $p(x)$-Laplacian operator. Next, we discuss the global behaviour of solutions and in particular some stabilization properties.
In this work, we study a quasilinear elliptic problem involving the 1-laplacian operator, with a discontinuous, superlinear and subcritical nonlinearity involving the Heaviside function $H(\cdot - β)$. Our approach is based on an analysis of the associated p-laplacian problem, followed by a thorough analysis of the asymptotic behaviour or such solutions as $p \to 1^+$. We study also the asymptotic behaviour of the solutions, as $β\to 0^+$ and we prove that it converges to a solution of the original problem, without the discontinuity in the nonlinearity.
This paper is concerned with the quasilinear Schrödinger equation \begin{equation*} -Δu+V(x)u- Δ(u^2)u =h(u), \ \ \mbox{in} \ \mathbb{R}^N, \end{equation*} where $N\geq 3$. Under appropriate assumptions on $V$ and $h$, we establish the existence of positive solutions. The main novelty is that, unlike most other papers on this problem, we do not assume $h$ is 4-superlinear at infinity.
In this paper we study quasilinear elliptic equations driven by the double phase operator along with a reaction that has a singular and a parametric superlinear term and with a nonlinear Neumann boundary condition of critical growth. Based on a new equivalent norm for Musielak-Orlicz Sobolev spaces and the Nehari manifold along with the fibering method we prove the existence of at least two weak solutions provided the parameter is sufficiently small.
This paper is devoted to the study, with variational technique, of (p,q)-Laplacian equations in presence of general nonlinearities. Especially we obtain the existence result for the zero mass case, which includes a large class of pure power nonlinearities. More general quasilinear problems of Born-Infeld type are also considered.
This article sets forth results on the existence, positivity and boundedness of solutions for quasilinear elliptic systems involving p-Laplacian and q-Laplacian operators. The approach combines Schaefer's fixed point, comparison principle as well as Moser's iteration procedure.
It is established $L^{p}$ estimates for the fractional $Φ$-Laplacian operator defined in bounded domains where the nonlinearity is subcritical or critical in a suitable sense. Furthermore, using some fine estimates together with the Moser's iteration, we prove that any weak solution for fractional $Φ$-Laplacian operator defined in bounded domains belongs to $L^\infty(Ω)$ under appropriate hypotheses on the $N$-function $Φ$. Using the Orlicz space and taking into account the fractional setting for our problem the main results are stated for a huge class of nonlinear operators and nonlinearities…
We consider quasilinear Schrödinger equations in $\mathbb{R}^{N}$ of the form% \[ -Δu+V(x)u-uΔ(u^{2})=g(u)\text{,}% \] where $g(u)$ is $4$-superlinear. Unlike all known results in the literature, the Schrödinger operator $-Δ+V$ is allowed to be indefinite, hence the variational functional does not satisfy the mountain pass geometry. By a local linking argument and Morse theory, we obtain a nontrivial solution for the problem. In case that $g$ is odd, we get an unbounded sequence of solutions.
A $p$-Laplacian elliptic problem in the presence of both strongly singular and $(p-1)$-superlinear nonlinearities is considered. We employ bifurcation theory, approximation techniques and sub-supersolution method to establish the existence of an unbounded branch of positive solutions, which is bounded in positive $λ-$direction and bifurcates from infinity at $λ=0$. As consequence of the bifurcation result, we determine intervals of existence, nonexistence and, in particular cases, global multiplicity.
In this paper, we use bifurcation method to investigate the existence and multiplicity of one-sign solutions of the $p$-Laplacian involving a linear/superlinear nonlinearity with zeros. To do this, we first establish a bifurcation theorem from infinity for nonlinear operator equation with homogeneous operator. To deal with the superlinear case, we establish several topological results involving superior limit.
The main purpose of this paper is to establish the existence of positive solutions to a class of quasilinear elliptic equations involving the (p-q)-Laplacian operator. We consider a nonlinearity that can be subcritical at infinity and supercritical at the origin; we also consider potential functions that can vanish at infinity. The approach is based on variational arguments dealing with the mountain-pass lemma and an adaptation of the penalization method. In order to overcome the lack of compactness we modify the original problem and the associated energy functional. Finally, to show that the …
We study the existence and multiplicity of solutions to the elliptic system where RN is a bounded and smooth domain. Using fibering maps and extracting Palais-Smale sequences in the Nehari manifold, we prove the existence of at least two distinct nontrivial nonnegative solutions.
We study the question of the existence of infinitely many weak solutions for nonlocal equations of fractional Laplacian type with homogeneous Dirichlet boundary data, in presence of a superlinear term. Starting from the well-known Ambrosetti-Rabinowitz condition, we consider different growth assumptions on the nonlinearity, all of superlinear type. We obtain three different existence results in this setting by using the Fountain Theorem, which extend some classical results for semilinear Laplacian equations to the nonlocal fractional setting.
We study the existence of positive solutions for the following class of $(p,q)$-Laplacian coupled systems \[ \left\{ \begin{array}{lr} -Δ_{p} u+a(x)|u|^{p-2}u=f(u)+ αλ(x)|u|^{α-2}u|v|^β, & x\in\mathbb{R}^{N}, -Δ_{q} v+b(x)|v|^{q-2}v=g(v)+ βλ(x)|v|^{β-2}v|u|^α, & x\in\mathbb{R}^{N}, \end{array} \right. \] where $N\geq3$ and $1\leq p\leq q<N$. Here the coefficient $λ(x)$ of the coupling term is related with the potentials by the condition $|λ(x)|\leqδa(x)^{α/p}b(x)^{β/q}$ where $δ\in(0,1)$ and $α/p+β/q=1$. We deal with periodic and asymptotically periodic potentials. The nonlinear terms $f(s), \…
We consider a nonlinear Robin problem driven by the sum of $p$-Laplacian and $q$-Laplacian (i.e. the $(p,q)$-equation). In the reaction there are competing effects of a singular term and a parametric perturbation $λf(z,x)$, which is Carathéodory and $(p-1)$-superlinear at $x\in\mathbb{R},$ without satisfying the Ambrosetti-Rabinowitz condition. Using variational tools, together with truncation and comparison techniques, we prove a bifurcation-type result describing the changes in the set of positive solutions as the parameter $λ>0$ varies.
In this work, we study the existence of $W_0^{1, p(\cdot)}$-solutions to the following boundary value problem involving the $p(\cdot)$-Laplacian operator: \begin{equation*} \left\lbrace \begin{array}{l} -Δ_{p(x)}u+|\nabla u|^{q(x)}=λg(x)u^{η(x)}+f(x), \quad\textnormal{ in } Ω, \\\qquad \,\,\,\,\,\quad \quad\qquad\quad u\geq 0, \quad\textnormal{ in } Ω \qquad \,\,\,\,\,\quad \quad\qquad\quad u= 0, \,\,\quad \text{on } \partialΩ. \end{array} \right. \end{equation*}under appropriate ranges on the variable exponents. We give assumptions on $f$ and $g$ in terms of the growth exponents $q$ and $η$ u…
It is establish regularity results for weak solutions of quasilinear elliptic problems driven by the well known $Φ$-Laplacian operator given by \begin{equation*} \left\{\ \begin{array}{cl} \displaystyle-Δ_Φu= g(x,u), & \mbox{in}~Ω, u=0, & \mbox{on}~\partial Ω, \end{array} \right. \end{equation*} where $Δ_Φu :=\mbox{div}(ϕ(|\nabla u|)\nabla u)$ and $Ω\subset\mathbb{R}^{N}, N \geq 2,$ is a bounded domain with smooth boundary $\partialΩ$. Our work concerns on nonlinearities $g$ which can be homogeneous or non-homogeneous. For the homogeneous case we consider an existence result together with a re…
We study the existence of positive solutions to the quasilinear elliptic problem -εΔu+V(x)u-εk(\Del(|u|^{2}))u=g(u), \quad u>0, x \in R^N, where g has superlinear growth at infinity without any restriction from above on its growth. Mountain pass in a suitable Orlicz space is employed to establish this result. These equations contain strongly singular nonlinearities which include derivatives of the second order which make the situation more complicated. Such equations arise when one seeks for standing wave solutions for the corresponding quasilinear Schrödinger equations. Schrödinger equations …
We prove the existence of one positive, one negative, and one sign-changing solution of a $p$-Laplacian equation on $\mathbb{R}^N$, with a $p$-superlinear subcritical term. Sign-changing solutions of quasilinear elliptic equations set on the whole of $\mathbb{R}^N$ have only been scarcely investigated in the literature. Our assumptions here are similar to those previously used by some authors in bounded domains, and our proof uses fairly elementary critical point theory, based on constraint minimization on the nodal Nehari set. The lack of compactness due to the unbounded domain is overcome by…
We consider the following problem $ -Δ_{p}u= h(x,u) \mbox{ in }Ω$, $u\in W^{1,p}_{0}(Ω)$, where $Ω$ is a bounded domain in $\mathbb{R}^{N}$, $1<p<N$, with a smooth boundary. In this paper we assume that $h(x,u)=a(x)f(u)+b(x)g(u)$ such that $f$ is regularly varying of index $p-1$ and superlinear at infinity. The function $g$ is a $p$-sublinear function at zero. The coefficients $a$ and $b$ belong to $L^{k}(Ω)$ for some $k>\frac{N}{p}$ and they are without sign condition. Firstly, we show a priori bound on solutions, then by using variational arguments, we prove the existence of at least two non…

It is established existence of bound and ground state solutions for quasilinear elliptic systems driven by (ϕ1, ϕ2)-Laplacian operator. The main feature here is to consider quasilinear elliptic systems involving both nonsingular nonlinearities combined with indefinite potentials and singular cases perturbed by superlinear and subcritical couple terms. These prevent us to use arguments based on Ambrosetti-Rabinowitz condition and variational methods for differentiable functionals. By exploring the Nehari method and doing a fine analysis on the fibering map associated, we get estimates that allo…
We study a system of quasilinear eigenvalue problems with Dirichlet boundary conditions on complete compact Riemannian manifolds. In particular, Cheng comparison estimates and inequality of Faber-Krahn for the first eigenvalue of a $(p,q)$-Laplacian are recovered. Lastly, we reprove a Cheeger type estimates for $p$-Laplacian, $1<p<\infty$, from where a lower bound estimate in terms of Cheeger's constant for the first eigenvalue of a $(p,q)$-Laplacian is built. As a corollary, the first eigenvalue converges to Cheeger's constant as $p,q\to 1,1.$
We consider semilinear Robin problems driven by the negative Laplacian plus an indefinite potential and with a superlinear reaction term which need not satisfy the Ambrosetti-Rabinowitz condition. We prove existence and multiplicity theorems (producing also an infinity of smooth solutions) using variational tools, truncation and perturbation techniques and Morse theory (critical groups).
Weighted good-$λ$ type inequalities and Muckenhoupt-Wheeden type bounds are obtained for gradients of solutions to a class of quasilinear elliptic equations with measure data. Such results are obtained globally over sufficiently flat domains in $\mathbb{R}^n$ in the sense of Reifenberg. The principal operator here is modeled after the $p$-Laplacian, where for the first time singular case $\frac{3n-2}{2n-1}<p\leq 2-\frac{1}{n}$ is considered. Those bounds lead to useful compactness criteria for solution sets of quasilinear elliptic equations with measure data. As an application, sharp existence…
We establish the existence of multiple solutions for a nonvariational elliptic systems involving $p(x)$-Laplacian operator. The approach combines the methods of sub-supersolution and Leray--Schauder topological degree.
The existence of at least two solutions to superlinear integral equation in cone is proved using the Krasnosielskii Fixed Point Theorem. The result is applied to the Dirichlet BVPs with the fractional Laplacian.
Locally bounded, local weak solutions to a special class of quasilinear, anisotropic, $p$-Laplacian type elliptic equations, are shown to be locally Hölder continuous. Homogeneous local upper bounds are established for local weak solutions to a general class of quasilinear anisotropic equations.
We study parametric double phase problems involving superlinear nonlinearities with a growth that need not necessarily be polynomial. Based on truncation and comparison methods the existence of two constant sign solutions is shown provided the parameter is larger than the first eigenvalue of the $p$-Laplacian. As a result of independent interest we prove a priori estimates for solutions for a general class of double phase problems with convection term.
We prove boundedness of gradients of solutions to quasilinear parabolic system, the main part of which is a generalization to p-Laplacian and its right hand side's growth depending on gradient is not slower (and generally strictly faster) than p - 1. This result may be seen as a generalization to the classical notion of a controllable growth of right hand side, introduced by Campanato, over gradients of p-Laplacian-like systems. Energy estimates and nonlinear iteration procedure of a Moser type are cornerstones of the used method.
We discuss the asymptotic behavior of positive solutions of the quasilinear elliptic problem $-Δ_p u=a u^{p-1}-b(x) u^q$, $u|_{\partial Ω}=0$ as $q \to p-1+0$ and as $q \to \infty$ via a scale argument. Here $Δ_p$ is the $p$-Laplacian with $1<p<\infty$ and $q>p-1$. If $p=2$, such problems arise in population dynamics. Our main results generalize the results for $p=2$, but some technical difficulties arising from the nonlinear degenerate operator $-Δ_p$ are successfully overcome. As a by-product, we can solve a free boundary problem for a nonlinear $p$-Laplacian equation.
The aim of this paper is to establish two results about multiplicity of solutions to problems involving the $1-$Laplacian operator, with nonlinearities with critical growth. To be more specific, we study the following problem $$ \left\{ \begin{array}{l} - Δ_1 u +ξ\frac{u}{|u|} =λ|u|^{q-2}u+|u|^{1^*-2}u, \quad\text{in }Ω, u=0, \quad\text{on } \partialΩ. \end{array} \right. $$ where $Ω$ is a smooth bounded domain in $\mathbb{R}^N$, $N \geq 2$ and $ξ\in\{0,1\}$. Moreover, $λ> 0$, $q \in (1,1^*)$ and $1^*=\frac{N}{N-1}$. The first main result establishes the existence of many rotationally non-equi…
We establish a precise connection between two elliptic quasilinear problems with Dirichlet data in a bounded domain of $\mathbb{R}^{N}.$ The first one, of the form \[ -Δ_{p}u=β(u)| \nabla u| ^{p}+λf(x)+α, \] involves a source gradient term with natural growth, where $β$ is nonnegative, $λ>0,f(x)\geqq0$, and $α$ is a nonnegative measure. The second one, of the form \[ -Δ_{p}v=λf(x)(1+g(v))^{p-1}+μ, \] presents a source term of order $0, $where $g$ is nondecreasing, and $μ$ is a nonnegative measure. Here $β$ and $g$ can present an asymptote. The correlation gives new results of existence, nonexi…
