We are concerned with the problem of recovering the radial kernel $k$, depending also on time, in the parabolic integro-differential equation $$D_{t}u(t,x)={\cal A}u(t,x)+\int_0^t k(t-s,|x|){\cal B}u(s,x)ds +\int_0^t D_{|x|}k(t-s,|x|){\cal C}u(s,x)ds+f(t,x),$$ ${\cal A}$ being a uniformly elliptic second-order linear operator in divergence form. We single out a special class of operators ${\cal A}$ and two pieces of suitable additional information for which the problem of identifying $k$ can be uniquely solved locally in time when the domain under consideration is a ball or a disk.

Stochastic parabolic integro-differential problem is considered in the whole space. By verifying Hörmander condition, the existence and uniqueness is proved in Lp-spaces of functions whose regularity is defined by a scalable Levy measure. Some rough probability density function estimates of the associated Levy process are used as well.
We prove existence and uniqueness of nonnegative solutions for a nonlocal in time integrodifferential diffusion system related to angiogenesis descriptions. Fundamental solutions of appropriately chosen parabolic operators with bounded coefficients allow us to generate sequences of approximate solutions. Comparison principles and integral equations provide uniform bounds ensuring some convergence properties for iterative schemes and providing stability bounds. Uniqueness follows from chained integral inequalities.
In this paper we deal with a strongly ill-posed second-order degenerate parabolic problem in the unbounded open set $Ω\times {\mathcal O}\subset \mathbb R^{M+N}$, related to a linear equation with unbounded coefficients, with no initial condition, but endowed with the usual Dirichlet condition on $(0,T)\times \partial(Ω\times {\mathcal O})$ and an additional condition involving the $x$-normal derivative on $Γ\times {\mathcal O}$, $Γ$ being an open subset of $Ω$. The task of this paper is twofold: determining sufficient conditions on our data implying the uniqueness of the solution $u$ to the b…
The overreaching goal of this paper is to investigate the existence and uniqueness of weak solution of a semilinear parabolic equation with double nonlocality in space and in time variables that naturally arises while modeling a biological nano-sensor in the chaotic dynamics of a polymer chain. In fact, the problem under consideration involves a symmetric integrodifferential operator of Lévy type and a term called the interaction potential, that depends on the time-integral of the solution over the entire interval of solving the problem. Owing to the Galerkin approximation, the existence and u…
We consider a general form of a parabolic equation that generalizes both the standard parabolic $p$-Laplace equation and the normalized version that has been proposed in stochastic game theory. We establish an equivalence between this equation and the standard $p$-parabolic equation posed in a fictitious space dimension, valid for radially symmetric solutions. This allows us to find suitable explicit solutions for example of Barenblatt type, and as a consequence we settle the exact asymptotic behaviour of the Cauchy problem even for nonradial data. We also establish the asymptotic behaviour in…
We consider solutions of some nonlinear parabolic boundary value problems in radial bounded domains whose initial profile satisfy a reflection inequality with respect to a hyperplane containing the origin. We show that, under rather general assumptions, these solutions are asymptotically (in time) foliated Schwarz symmetric, i.e., all elements in the associated omega limit set are axially symmetric with respect to a common axis passing through the origin and nonincreasing in the polar angle from this axis. In this form, the result is new even for equilibria (i.e. solutions of the corresponding…
We construct radial self-similar solutions of the, so called, minimal parabolic-elliptic Keller--Segel model in several space dimensions with radial, nonnegative initial conditions with are below the Chandrasekhar solution -- the singular stationary solution of this system.
We study the symmetry properties of limit profiles of nonautonomous nonlinear parabolic systems with Dirichlet boundary conditions in radial bounded domains. In the case of competitive systems, we show that if the initial profiles satisfy a reflectional inequality with respect to a hyperplane, then all limit profiles are foliated Schwarz symmetric with respect to antipodal points. One of the main ingredients in the proof is a new parabolic version of Serrin's boundary point lemma. Results on radial symmetry of semi-trivial profiles are discussed also for noncompetitive systems.
We study the uniqueness of singular radial (forward and backward) self-similar positive solutions of the equation $u_t-Δu = u^p, \quad x\in{\mathbb R}^n,\ t>0,$ where $p\geq(n+2)/(n-2)_+$.
We study the Neumann initial-boundary value problem for the fully parabolic Keller-Segel system u_t=Δu - \nabla \cdot (u\nabla v), \qquad x\inΩ, \ t>0, [1mm] v_t=Δv-v+u, \qquad x\inΩ, \ t>0, where $Ω$ is a ball in ${\mathbb{R}}^n$ with $n\ge 3$. It is proved that for any prescribed $m>0$ there exist radially symmetric positive initial data $(u_0,v_0) \in C^0(\barΩ) \times W^{1,\infty}(Ω)$ with $\int_Ωu_0=m$ such that the corresponding solution blows up in finite time. Moreover, by providing an essentially explicit blow-up criterion it is shown that within the space of all radial functions, the…
We consider the simplest parabolic-elliptic model of chemotaxis in the whole space in several dimensions. Criteria for the existence of radial global-in-time solutions in terms of suitable Morrey norms are derived.
If $p>1+2/n$ then the equation $u_t-Δu = u^p, \quad x\in{\mathbb R}^n,\ t>0,$ possesses both positive global solutions and positive solutions which blow up in finite time. We study the large time behavior of radial positive solutions lying on the borderline between global existence and blow-up.
We consider the simplest parabolic-elliptic model of chemotaxis in the whole space in several dimensions. Criteria for the blowup of radially symmetric solutions in terms of suitable Morrey spaces norms are derived.
We study the symmetry properties of the weak positive solutions to a class of quasi-linear elliptic problems having a variational structure. On this basis, the asymptotic behaviour of global solutions of the corresponding parabolic equations is also investigated. In particular, if the domain is a ball, the elements of the $ω$-limit set are nonnegative radially symmetric solutions of the stationary problem.
In this paper we prove finite-time blowup of radially symmetric solutions to the quasilinear parabolic-parabolic two-dimensional Keller-Segel system for any positive mass. This is done in case of nonlinear diffusion and also in the case of nonlinear cross-diffusion provided the nonlinear chemosensitivity term is assumed not to decay. Moreover, it is shown that the above-mentioned lack of non-decay assumption is essential with respect to keeping the dichotomy finite-time blowup against boundedness of solutions. Namely, we prove that without the non-decay assumption possible asymptotic behaviour…
We consider a nonlocal parabolic model for a micro-electro-mechanical system. Specifically, for a radially symmetric problem with monotonic initial data, it is shown that the solution quenches, so that touchdown occurs in the device, in a situation where there is no steady state. It is also shown that quenching occurs at a single point and a bound on the approach to touchdown is obtained. Numerical simulations illustrating the results are given.
The present paper deals with the parabolic-parabolic Keller-Segel equation in the plane inthe general framework of weak (or "free energy") solutions associated to an initial datum with finite mass $M\textless{} 8π$, finite second log-moment and finite entropy. The aim of the paper is twofold:(1) We prove the uniqueness of the "free energy" solution. The proof uses a DiPerna-Lions renormalizing argument which makes possible to get the "optimal regularity" as well as an estimate of the difference of two possible solutions in the critical $L^{4/3}$ Lebesgue norm similarly as for the $2d$ vorticit…
We show that the attraction-repulsion chemotaxis system \begin{equation*} \begin{cases} u_t = Δu - χ\nabla\cdot(u\nabla v_1) + ξ\nabla\cdot(u\nabla v_2)\\ \partial_t v_1 = Δv_1 - βv_1 + αu \\ \partial_t v_2 = Δv_2 - δv_2 + γu, \end{cases} \end{equation*} posed with homogeneous Neumann boundary conditions in bounded domains $Ω=B_R \subset \mathbb{R}^3$, $R>0$, admits radially symmetric solutions which blow-up in finite time if it is attraction-dominated in the sense that $χα-ξγ>0$.
We consider the Schrödinger-Poisson-Slater (SPS) system in $\R^3$ and a nonlocal SPS type equation in balls of $\mathbb R^3$ with Dirichlet boundary conditions. We show that for every $k\in\mathbb N$ each problem considered admits a nodal radially symmetric solution which changes sign exacly $k$ times in the radial variable. Moreover when the domain is the ball of $\mathbb R^3$ we obtain the existence of radial global solutions for the associated nonlocal parabolic problem having $k+1$ nodal regions at every time.
We study the long time behaviour of solutions of semi-linear parabolic equation of the following type $\partial_t u-Δu+a_0(x)u^q=0$ where $a_0(x) \geq d_0 \exp(\frac{ω(|x|)}{|x|^2})$, $d_0>0$, $1>q>0$ and $ω$ a positive continuous radial function. We give a Dini-like condition on the function $ω$ by two different method which implies that any solution of the above equation vanishes in a finite time. The first one is a variant of a local energy method and the second one is derived from semi-classical limits of some Schrödinger operators.
The Perona-Malik equation is an ill-posed forward-backward parabolic equation with major application in image processing. In this paper we study the Perona-Malik type equation and show that, in all dimensions, there exist infinitely many radial weak solutions to the homogeneous Neumann boundary problem for any smooth nonconstant radially symmetric initial data. Our approach is to reformulate the $n$-dimensional equation into a one-dimensional equation, to convert the one-dimensional problem into a differential inclusion problem, and to apply a Baire's category method to generate infinitely man…
We consider a parabolic-elliptic chemotaxis system generalizing \[ \begin{cases}\begin{split} & u_t=\nabla\cdot((u+1)^{m-1}\nabla u)-\nabla \cdot(u(u+1)^{σ-1}\nabla v)\\ & 0 = Δv - v + u \end{split}\end{cases} \] in bounded smooth domains $Ω\subset \mathbb{R}^N$, $N\ge 3$, and with homogeneous Neumann boundary conditions. We show that *) solutions are global and bounded if $σ<m-\frac{N-2}N$ *) solutions are global if $σ\le 0$ *) close to given radially symmetric functions there are many initial data producing unbounded solutions if $σ>m-\frac{N-2}N$. In particular, if $σ\le 0$ and $σ> m-\frac{…
We consider the parabolic-elliptic model for the chemotaxis with fractional (anomalous) diffusion. Global-in-time solutions are constructed under (nearly) optimal assumptions on the size of radial initial data. Moreover, criteria for blowup of radial solutions in terms of suitable Morrey spaces norms are derived.

In this paper, we consider a model with tumor microenvironment involving nutrient density, extracellular matrix and matrix-degrading enzymes, which satisfy a coupled system of PDEs with a free boundary. For this coupled parabolic-hyperbolic free boundary problem, we prove that there is a unique radially symmetric solution globally in time. The stationary problem involves an ODE system which is transformed into a singular integro-differential equation. We establish a well-posed theorem for such general types of equations by the shooting method; the theorem is then applied to our problem for the…
We consider a Parabolic-Elliptic system of PDE's with a chemotactic term in a $N$-dimensional unit ball describing the behavior of the density of a biological species "$u$" and a chemical stimulus "$v$". The system includes a nonlinear chemotactic coefficient depending of ``$\nabla v$", i.e. the chemotactic term is given in the form $$- div (χu |\nabla v|^{p-2} \nabla v), \qquad \mbox{ for } \ p \in ( \frac{N}{N-1},2), \qquad N >2 $$ for a positive constant $χ$ when $v$ satisfies the poisson equation $$- Δv = u - \frac{1}{|Ω|} \int_Ω u_0dx.$$ We study the radially symmetric solutions under the…

We obtain upper bounds for the quenching time of the solutions of the nonlocal parabolic MEMS equation $u_t=Δu+\lam/(1-u)^2(1+χ\int_Ω1/(1-u) dx)^2$ in $Ω\times (0,\infty)$, $u=0$ on $\1Ω\times (0,\infty)$, $u(x,0)=u_0$ in $Ω$, when $λ$ is large. We prove the compactness of the quenching set under a mild condition on the initial data. When $Ω=B_R$ and $u_0$ is radially symmetric and monotone decreasing in $0\le r\le R$, we prove that the point $x=0$ is the only possible quenching set. When $u_0$ also satisfies some strict concavity assumption, we prove that for any $β\in (2,3)$ the solution sat…
The Cauchy problem for the Hardy-Hénon parabolic equation is studied in the critical and subcritical regime in weighted Lebesgue spaces on the Euclidean space $\mathbb{R}^d$. Well-posedness for singular initial data and existence of non-radial forward self-similar solution of the problem are previously shown only for the Hardy and Fujita cases ($γ\le 0$) in earlier works. The weighted spaces enable us to treat the potential $|x|^γ$ as an increase or decrease of the weight, thereby we can prove well-posedness to the problem for all $γ$ with $-\min\{2,d\}<γ$ including the Hénon case ($γ>0$). As …
Positive solutions of homogeneous Dirichlet boundary value problems or initial-value problems for certain elliptic or parabolic equations must be radially symmetric and monotone in the radial direction if just one of their level surfaces is parallel to the boundary of the domain. Here, for the elliptic case, we prove the stability counterpart of that result. In fact, we show that if the solution is almost constant on a surface at a fixed distance from the boundary, then the domain is almost radially symmetric, in the sense that is contained in and contains two concentric balls $B_{r_e}$ and $B…
Liouville theorems for scaling invariant nonlinear parabolic equations and systems (saying that the equation or system does not possess positive entire solutions) guarantee optimal universal estimates of solutions of related initial and initial-boundary value problems. In the case of the nonlinear heat equation $$u_t-Δu=u^p\quad\hbox{in}\quad {R}^n\times{R}, \qquad p>1, $$ the nonexistence of positive classical solutions in the subcritical range $p(n-2)<n+2$ has been conjectured for a long time, but all known results require either a more restrictive assumption on $p$ or deal with a special cl…
We study radial solutions in a ball of $\mathbb{R}^N$ of a semilinear, parabolic-elliptic Patlak-Keller-Segel system with a nonlinear sensitivity involving a critical power. For $N = 2$, the latter reduces to the classical linear model, well-known for its critical mass $8π$. We show that a critical mass phenomenon also occurs for $N \geq 3$, but with a strongly different qualitative behaviour. More precisely, if the total mass of cells is smaller or equal to the critical mass M, then the cell density converges to a regular steady state with support strictly inside the ball as time goes to infi…
We carry on our studies related to the fully parabolic quasilinear Keller-Segel system started in [6] and continued in [7]. In the above mentioned papers we proved finite-time blowup of radially symmetric solutions to the quasilinear Keller-Segel system if the nonlinear chemosensitivity is strong enough and an adequate relation between nonlinear diffusion and chemosensitivity holds. On the other hand we proved that once chemosensitivity is weak enough solutions exist globally in time. The present paper is devoted to looking for critical exponents distinguishing between those two behaviors. Mor…
In this paper, we establish the existence of a 1-parameter family of spatially inhomogeneous radially symmetric classical self-similar solutions to a Cauchy problem for a semi-linear parabolic PDE with non-Lipschitz nonlinearity and trivial initial data. Specifically we establish well-posedness for an associated initial value problem for a singular two-dimensional non-autonomous dynamical system with non-Lipschitz nonlinearity. Additionally, we establish that solutions to the initial value problem converge algebraically to the origin and oscillate as $η\to \infty$.
Typically, aggregation-diffusion is modeled by parabolic equations that combine linear or nonlinear diffusion with a Fokker-Planck convection term. Under very general suitable assumptions, we prove that radial solutions of the evolution process converge asymptotically in time towards a stationary state representing the balance between the two effects. Our parabolic system is the gradient flow of an energy functional, and in fact we show that the stationary states are minimizers of a relaxed energy. Here, we study radial solutions of an aggregation-diffusion model that combines nonlinear fast d…
This paper deals with the quasilinear parabolic-elliptic Keller-Segel system with logistic source, \begin{align*} u_t=Δ(u+1)^m - χ\nabla \cdot (u(u+1)^{α- 1} \nabla v) + λ(|x|) u - μ(|x|) u^κ, \quad 0=Δv - v + u, \quad x\inΩ,\ t>0, \end{align*} where $Ω:=B_{R}(0)\subset\mathbb{R}^n\ (n\ge3)$ is a ball with some $R>0$; $m>0$, $χ>0$, $α>0$ and $κ\ge1$; $λ$ and $μ$ are spatially radial nonnegative functions. About this problem, Winkler (Z. Angew. Math. Phys.; 2018; 69; Art. 69, 40) found the condition for $κ$ such that solutions blow up in finite time when $m=α=1$. In the case that $m=1$ and $α\i…
Parabolic integro-differential nondegenerate Cauchy problem is considered in the scale of L_{p} spaces of functions whose regularity is defined by a Levy measure with O-regulary varying radial profile. Existence and uniqueness of a solution is proved by deriving apriori estimates. Some probability density function estimates of the associated Levy process are used as well.
We consider the generalized parabolic Cahn-Hilliard equation $$ u_t=-Δ\left[Δu -W'(u)\right]+W''(u)\left[Δu -W'(u)\right] \qquad \forall\, (t, x)\in \widetilde{\mathbb R}\times{\mathbb R}^n, $$ where $n=2$ or $n\geq 4$, $W(\cdot)$ is the typical double-well potential function and $\widetilde{\mathbb R}$ is given by $$ \widetilde{\mathbb R}=\left\{ \begin{array}{rl} (0, \infty), &\quad \mbox{if } n=2, (-\infty, 0), & \quad\mbox{if } n\geq 4. \end{array} \right. $$ We construct a radial solution $u(t, x)$ possessing an interface. At main order this solution consists of a traveling copy of the st…
Let $n\geq 3$, $0\le m<\frac{n-2}{n}$, $ρ_1>0$, $β>β_0^{(m)}=\frac{mρ_1}{n-2-nm}$, $α_m=\frac{2β+ρ_1}{1-m}$ and $α=2β+ρ_1$. For any $λ>0$, we prove the uniqueness of radially symmetric solution $v^{(m)}$ of $\La(v^m/m)+α_m v+βx\cdot\nabla v=0$, $v>0$, in $\R^n\setminus\{0\}$ which satisfies $\lim_{|x|\to 0}|x|^{\frac{α_m}β}v^{(m)}(x)=λ^{-\frac{ρ_1}{(1-m)β}}$ and obtain higher order estimates of $v^{(m)}$ near the blow-up point $x=0$. We prove that as $m\to 0^+$, $v^{(m)}$ converges uniformly in $C^2(K)$ for any compact subset $K$ of $\R^n\setminus\{0\}$ to the solution $v$ of $\La\log v+αv+βx\…
Liouville theorems for scaling invariant nonlinear elliptic systems (saying that the system does not possess nontrivial entire solutions) guarantee a priori estimates of solutions of related, more general systems. Assume that $p=2q+3>1$ is Sobolev subritical, $n\le3$ and $β\in{\mathbb R}$. This paper deals with the quasilinear attraction-repulsion chemotaxis system \begin{align*} \begin{cases} u_t=\nabla\cdot \big((u+1)^{m-1}\nabla u -χu(u+1)^{p-2}\nabla v +ξu(u+1)^{q-2}\nabla w\big) +f(u), \\[1.05mm] 0=Δv+αu-βv, \\[1.05mm] 0=Δw+γu-δw \end{cases} \end{align*} in a bounded domain $Ω\subset \mathbb{R}^n$ ($n \in \mathbb{N}$) with smooth boundary $\partialΩ$, where $m, p, q \in \mathbb{R}$, $χ, ξ, α, β, γ, δ>0$ are constants. Moreover, it is supposed that the function $f$ satisfies $f(u)\equiv0$ in the study of boundedness, whereas, when considering blow-up, it is assumed that $m>0…
