We show that the attraction-repulsion chemotaxis system \begin{equation*} \begin{cases} u_t = Δu - χ\nabla\cdot(u\nabla v_1) + ξ\nabla\cdot(u\nabla v_2)\\
\partial_t v_1 = Δv_1 - βv_1 + αu \\
\partial_t v_2 = Δv_2 - δv_2 + γu, \end{cases} \end{equation*} posed with homogeneous Neumann boundary conditions in bounded domains $Ω=B_R \subset \mathbb{R}^3$, $R>0$, admits radially symmetric solutions which blow-up in finite time if it is attraction-dominated in the sense that $χα-ξγ>0$.
We study some zero-flux attraction-repulsion chemotaxis models, with nonlinear production rates for the chemorepellent and the chemoattractant. This paper partially improves some known results in the literature and moreover solves an open question. The research is also complemented with numerical simulations in bi-dimensional domains.
In this paper we focus on an attraction-repulsion chemotaxis model with consumed signals, formulated in bounded and smooth domains $Ω$ of $\R^n$, with $n\geq 2$. We derive sufficient conditions on its data yielding global and bounded classical solutions to the related zero-flux Cauchy problem.
This work deals with a parabolic chemotaxis model with nonlinear diffusion and nonlocal reaction source. The problem is formulated on the whole space and, depending on a specific interplay between the coefficients associated to such diffusion and reaction, we establish that all given solutions are uniformly bounded in time.
We enter the details of two recent articles concerning as many chemotaxis models, one nonlinear and the other linear, and both with produced chemoattractant and saturated chemorepellent. These works, when properly analyzed, leave open room for some improvement of their results. We generalize the outcomes of the mentioned articles, establish other statements and put all the claims together; in particular, we select the sharpest ones and schematize them. Moreover, we complement our research also when logistic sources are considered in the overall study.
This paper deals with the fully parabolic attraction-repulsion chemotaxis system \begin{align*} u_t=Δu-χ\nabla \cdot (u\nabla v)+ξ\nabla\cdot(u \nabla w), \quad v_t=Δv-v+u, \quad w_t=Δw-w+u, \quad x \in Ω,\ t>0 \end{align*} under homogeneous Neumann boundary conditions and initial conditions, where $Ω$ is an open ball in $\mathbb{R}^n$ ($n \ge 3$), $χ, ξ>0$ are constants. When $w=0$, finite-time blow-up in the corresponding Keller-Segel system has already been obtained. However, finite-time blow-up in the above attraction-repulsion chemotaxis system has not yet been established except for the …
In this paper we study a zero-flux attraction-repulsion che\-mo\-taxis-system. We show that despite any mutual interplay between the repulsive and attractive coefficients from the corresponding chemo-sensitivities, even less any restriction on their own sizes, if the production rate of that chemical signal responsible of the cellular coalescence is sublinear, then any initial data emanate a unique global classical solution, which is as well bounded. Further, in a remark of the manuscript, we also address an open question given in \cite{Viglialoro2019RepulsionAttraction}.
We consider an attraction-repulsion chemotaxis model coupled with the Navier-Stokes system. This model describes the interaction between a type of cells (e.g., bacteria), which proliferate following a logistic law, and two chemical signals produced by the cells themselves that degraded at a constant rate. Also, it is considered that the chemoattractant is consumed with a rate proportional to the amount of organisms. The cells and chemical substances are transported by a viscous incompressible fluid under the influence of a force due to the aggregation of cells. We prove the existence of global…
This paper is concerned with the attraction-repulsion chemotaxis system with superlinear logistic degradation, \begin{align*} \begin{cases} u_t = Δu - χ\nabla\cdot(u \nabla v) + ξ\nabla\cdot (u \nabla w) + λu - μu^k, \quad &x \in Ω,\ t>0,\\[1.05mm] 0= Δv + αu - βv, \quad &x \in Ω,\ t>0,\\[1.05mm] 0= Δw + γu - δw, \quad &x \in Ω,\ t>0, \end{cases} \end{align*} under homogeneous Neumann boundary conditions, in a ball $Ω\subset \mathbb{R}^n$ ($n \ge 3$), with constant parameters $λ\in \mathbb{R}$, $k>1$, $μ, χ, ξ, α, β, γ, δ>0$. Blow-up phenomena in the system have been well investigated in the c…
This paper deals with the fully parabolic attraction-repulsion chemotaxis system with signal-dependent sensitivities, \begin{align*} \begin{cases} u_t=Δu-\nabla \cdot (uχ(v)\nabla v) +\nabla \cdot (uξ(w)\nabla w), &x \in Ω,\ t>0,\\[1.05mm] v_t=Δv-v+u, &x \in Ω,\ t>0,\\[1.05mm] w_t=Δw-w+u, &x \in Ω,\ t>0 \end{cases} \end{align*} under homogeneous Neumann boundary conditions and initial conditions, where $Ω\subset \mathbb{R}^n$ $(n \ge 2)$ is a bounded domain with smooth boundary, $χ, ξ$ are functions satisfying some conditions. This paper deals with the quasilinear attraction-repulsion chemotaxis system \begin{align*} \begin{cases} u_t=\nabla\cdot \big((u+1)^{m-1}\nabla u -χu(u+1)^{p-2}\nabla v +ξu(u+1)^{q-2}\nabla w\big),\\[] 0=Δv+αu-βv,\\[] 0=Δw+γu-δw \end{cases} \end{align*} in a bounded domain $Ω\subset \mathbb{R}^n$ $(n \in \mathbb{N})$ with smooth boundary $\partial Ω$, where $m, p, q \in \mathbb{R}$, $χ, ξ, α, β, γ, δ>0$ are constants. In the case that $m=1$ and $p=q=2$, when $χα-ξγ<0$ and $β=δ$, Tao-Wang (Math. Models Methods Appl. Sci.; 2013; 23; 1-36) proved that global bounded classical solutions toward th…
It has been well established that, in attraction-repulsion Keller-Segel systems of the form\begin{equation*} \left\{ \begin{aligned} u_t &= Δu - χ\nabla \cdot (u\nabla v) + ξ\nabla \cdot (u\nabla w), \\ τv_t &= Δv + αu - βv,\\ τw_t &= Δw + γu - δw \end{aligned} \right. \end{equation*} in a smooth bounded domain $Ω\subseteq \mathbb{R}^n$, $n\in\mathbb{N}$, with Neumann boundary conditions and parameters $χ, ξ\geq 0$, $α,β,γ,δ> 0$ and $τ\in \{0,1\}$, finite-time blow-up can be ruled out in many scenarios given sufficiently smooth initial data if the repulsive chemotaxis is sufficiently stronger …
In this paper we study classical solutions to the zero--flux attraction--repulsion chemotaxis--system \begin{equation}\label{ProblemAbstract} \tag{$\Diamond$} \begin{cases} u_{ t}=Δu -χ\nabla \cdot (u\nabla v)+ξ\nabla \cdot (u\nabla w) & \textrm{in }Ω\times (0,t^*), \\ 0=Δv+αu-βv & \textrm{in } Ω\times (0,t^*),\\ 0=Δw+γu-δw & \textrm{in } Ω\times (0,t^*),\\ \end{cases} \end{equation} where $Ω$ is a smooth and bounded domain of $\mathbb{R}^2$, $t^*$ is the blow--up time and $α,β,γ,δ,χ,ξ$ are positive real numbers. From the literature it is known that under a proper interplay between the above p…
This paper deals with the quasilinear fully parabolic attraction-repulsion chemotaxis system \begin{align*} u_t=\nabla \cdot (D(u)\nabla u) -\nabla \cdot (G(u)χ(v)\nabla v) +\nabla\cdot(H(u)ξ(w)\nabla w), \quad v_t=d_1Δv+αu-βv, \quad w_t=d_2Δw+γu-δw, \quad x \in Ω,\ t>0, \end{align*} under homogeneous Neumann boundary conditions and initial conditions, where $Ω\subset \mathbb{R}^n$ $(n \ge 1)$ is a bounded domain with smooth boundary, $d_1, d_2, α, β, γ, δ>0$ are constants. Also, the diffusivity $D$, the density-dependent sensitivities $G, H$ fulfill $D(s)=a_0(s+1)^{m-1}$ with $a_0>0$ and $m \…
This paper deals with the quasilinear attraction-repulsion chemotaxis system \begin{align*} \begin{cases} u_t=\nabla\cdot \big((u+1)^{m-1}\nabla u -χu(u+1)^{p-2}\nabla v +ξu(u+1)^{q-2}\nabla w\big) +f(u), \\[1.05mm] 0=Δv+αu-βv, \\[1.05mm] 0=Δw+γu-δw \end{cases} \end{align*} in a bounded domain $Ω\subset \mathbb{R}^n$ ($n \in \mathbb{N}$) with smooth boundary $\partialΩ$, where $m, p, q \in \mathbb{R}$, $χ, ξ, α, β, γ, δ>0$ are constants. Moreover, it is supposed that the function $f$ satisfies $f(u)\equiv0$ in the study of boundedness, whereas, when considering blow-up, it is assumed that $m>0…
This paper generalizes and extends to the case of nonlinear effects and logistic perturbations some results recently developed in the literature where, for the linear counterpart and in absence of logistics, criteria toward boundedness for an attraction-repulsion Keller-Segel system with double saturation are derived.
This paper deals with unbounded solutions to a class of chemotaxis systems. In particular, for a rather general attraction-repulsion model, with nonlinear productions, diffusion, sensitivities and logistic term, we detect Lebesgue spaces where given unbounded solutions blow-up also in the corresponding norms of those spaces; subsequently, estimates for the blow-up time are established. Finally, for a simplified version of the model, some blow-up criteria are proved.
We investigate the large time behavior of multi-dimensional aggregation equations driven by Newtonian repulsion, and balanced by radial attraction and confinement. In case of Newton repulsion with radial confinement we quantify the algebraic convergence decay rate towards the unique steady state. To this end, we identify a one-parameter family of radial steady states, and prove dimension-dependent decay rate in energy and 2-Wassertein distance, using a comparison with properly selected radial steady states. We also study Newtonian repulsion and radial attraction. When the attraction potential …
We examine a general model for the Fisher-KPP (FKPP) equation with nonlocal advection. The main interpretation of this model is as describing a diffusing and logistically growing population that is also influenced by intraspecific attraction or repulsion. For a particular choice of parameters, this specializes to the Keller-Segel-Fisher equation for chemotaxis. Our interest is in the effect of chemotaxis on the speed of traveling waves. We prove that there is a threshold such that, when interactions are weaker and more localized than this, chemotaxis, despite being non-trivial, does not influe…
In this paper, we study traveling wave solutions of the chemotaxis systems \begin{equation} \begin{cases} u_{t}=Δu -χ_1\nabla( u\nabla v_1)+χ_2 \nabla(u\nabla v_2 )+ u(a -b u), \qquad \ x\in\mathbb{R} \\ τ\partial_tv_1=(Δ- λ_1 I)v_1+ μ_1 u, \qquad \ x\in\mathbb{R}, \\ τ\partial v_2=(Δ- λ_2 I)v_2+ μ_2 u, \qquad \ \ x\in\mathbb{R}, \end{cases} (0.1) \end{equation} where $τ>0,χ_{i}> 0,λ_i> 0,\ μ_i>0$ ($i=1,2$) and $\ a>0,\ b> 0$ are constants, and $N$ is a positive integer. Under some appropriate conditions on the parameters, we show that there exist two positive constant $ 0<c^{*}(τ,χ_1,μ_1,λ_1,…
In this work we investigate the following chemo-attraction with consumption model in bounded domains of \, $\mathbb{R}^N$ ($N=1,2,3$): $$ \partial_t u - Δu = - \nabla \cdot (u \nabla v), \quad \partial_t v - Δv = - u^s v $$ where $s\ge 1$, endowed with isolated boundary conditions and initial conditions for $(u,v)$. The main novelty in the model is the nonlinear potential consumption term $u^sv$. Through the convergence of solutions of an adequate truncated model, two main results are established; existence of uniform in time weak solutions in $3D$ domains, and uniqueness and regularity in $2D…
We consider a degenerate chemotaxis model with two-species and two-stimuli in dimension $d \geq 3$. Under the hypothesis of integrable initial data with finite second moment and energy, we show local-in-time existence for any mass of free-energy solutions, namely weak solutions with some free energy estimates. We exhibit that the qualitative behavior of solutions is decided by a set of critical values: there is a critical value of a parameter pair in the system of equations for which there is a global-in-time energy solution and there exist blowing-up free-energy solutions under a criticality …
We consider the following chemotaxis systems $$\begin{cases}u_t=Δu-χ_1\nabla(u\nabla v_1)+χ_2\nabla(u\nabla v_2)+u(a-bu),\ \ x\in\mathbb R^N,t>0,\\0=(Δ-λ_1I)v_1+μ_1u,\ \ x\in\mathbb R^N,t>0,\\0=(Δ-λ_2I)v_2+μ_2u,\ \ \text{in}\ x\in\mathbb R^N,\ t>0,\\u(\cdot,0)=u_0,\ \ x\in\mathbb R^N,\end{cases}$$where $χ_i,\ λ_i,\ μ_i,\ i=1,2$ and $a,\ b$ are positive constant real numbers and $N$ is a positive integer. Under some conditions on the parameters, we prove the global existence and boundedness of classical solutions $(u(x,t;u_0),v_1(x,t;u_0),v_2(x,t;u_0))$ for nonnegative, bounded, and uniformly c…
We are concerned with the following full Attraction-Repulsion Keller-Segel (ARKS) system \begin{equation}\label{ARKS}\tag{$\ast$} \begin{cases} u_t=Δu-\nabla\cdot(χu\nabla v)+\nabla\cdot(ξu\nabla w), &x\in Ω, ~~t>0, v_t=D_1Δv+αu-βv,& x\in Ω, ~~t>0, w_t=D_2Δw+γu-δw, &x\in Ω, ~~t>0,\\ u(x,0)=u_0(x),~v(x,0)= v_0(x), w(x,0)= w_0(x) & x\in Ω, \end{cases} \end{equation} in a bounded domain $Ω\subset \R^2$ with smooth boundary subject to homogeneous Neumann boundary conditions. %The parameters $D_1,D_2,χ,ξ,α,β,γ$ and $δ$ are positive. In this paper, we consider the dynamics of a 2D target-searching agent performing Brownian motion under the influence of fluid shear flow and chemical attraction. The analysis is motivated by numerous situations in biology where these effects are present, such as broadcast spawning of marine animals and other reproduction processes or workings of the immune systems. We rigorously characterize the limit of the expected hit time in the large flow amplitude limit as corresponding to the effective one-dimensional problem. We also perform numerical computations to characterize the finer properties …
Self-Similar blow-up for a diffusion-attraction problem
How can repulsive and attractive forces, acting on a conservative system, create stable traveling patterns or branching instabilities? We have proposed to study this question in the framework of the hyperbolic Keller-Segel system with logistic sensitivity. This is a model system motivated by experiments on cell communities auto-organization, a field which is also called socio-biology. We continue earlier modeling work, where we have shown numerically that branching patterns arise for this system and we have analyzed this instability by formal asymptotics for small diffusivity of the chemo-repe…
