This paper is framed in a series of studies on attraction-repulsion chemotaxis models combining different effects: nonlinear diffusion and sensitivities and logistic sources, for the dynamics of the cell density, and consumption and/or production impacts, for those of the chemicals. In particular, herein we focus on the situation where the signal responsible of gathering tendencies for the particles' distribution is produced, while the opposite counterpart is consumed. In such a sense, this research complements two recent results, where the chemicals evolve according to different laws.
We study some zero-flux attraction-repulsion chemotaxis models, with nonlinear production rates for the chemorepellent and the chemoattractant. This paper partially improves some known results in the literature and moreover solves an open question. The research is also complemented with numerical simulations in bi-dimensional domains.
This work deals with a parabolic chemotaxis model with nonlinear diffusion and nonlocal reaction source. The problem is formulated on the whole space and, depending on a specific interplay between the coefficients associated to such diffusion and reaction, we establish that all given solutions are uniformly bounded in time.
In this paper we focus on an attraction-repulsion chemotaxis model with consumed signals, formulated in bounded and smooth domains $Ω$ of $\R^n$, with $n\geq 2$. We derive sufficient conditions on its data yielding global and bounded classical solutions to the related zero-flux Cauchy problem.
We consider the Neumann problem for a coupled chemotaxis-haptotaxis model of cancer invasion with/without kinetic source in a 2D bounded and smooth domain. For a large class of cell kinetic sources including zero source and sub-logistic sources, we detect an explicit condition involving the chemotactic strength, the asymptotic "damping" rate, and the initial mass of cells to ensure uniform-in-time boundedness for the corresponding Neumann problem. Our finding significantly improves existing 2D global existence and boundedness in related chemotaxis-/haptotaxis systems.
We show that the attraction-repulsion chemotaxis system \begin{equation*} \begin{cases} u_t = Δu - χ\nabla\cdot(u\nabla v_1) + ξ\nabla\cdot(u\nabla v_2)\\ \partial_t v_1 = Δv_1 - βv_1 + αu \\ \partial_t v_2 = Δv_2 - δv_2 + γu, \end{cases} \end{equation*} posed with homogeneous Neumann boundary conditions in bounded domains $Ω=B_R \subset \mathbb{R}^3$, $R>0$, admits radially symmetric solutions which blow-up in finite time if it is attraction-dominated in the sense that $χα-ξγ>0$.
We show global existence and boundedness of classical solutions to a virus infection model with chemotaxis in bounded smooth domains of arbitrary dimension and for any sufficiently regular nonnegative initial data and homogeneous Neumann boundary conditions. More precisely, the system considered is \[ \begin{cases}\begin{split} & u_t=Δu - \nabla\cdot(\frac{u}{(1+u)^α}\nabla v) - uw + κ- u, \\ & v_t=Δv + uw - v, \\ & w_t=Δw - w + v, \end{split}\end{cases} \] with $κ\ge 0$, and solvability and boundedness of the solution are shown under the condition that \[ \begin{cases} α> \frac 12 + \frac{n^2…
In this paper, we study chemotaxis effect vs logistic dampening on boundedness for the two-dimensional minimal Keller-Segel model with logistic source in a 2-D smooth and bounded domain. It is well-known that this model allows only for global and uniform-in-time bounded solutions for any chemotactic strength and logistic dampening. Here, we carefully employ a simple and new method to regain its boundedness and, with particular attention to how boundedness depends qualitatively on the coefficient of chemotactic strength and logistic dampening rate. Up to a scaling constant depending only on ini…
In this paper we study the zero-flux chemotaxis-system \begin{equation*} \begin{cases} u_t=Δu -χ\nabla \cdot (\frac{u}{v} \nabla v) \\ v_t=Δv-f(u)v \end{cases} \end{equation*} in a smooth and bounded domain $Ω$ of $\mathbb{R}^2$, with $χ>0$ and $f\in C^1(\mathbb{R})$ essentially behaving like $u^β$, $0<β<1$. Precisely for $χ<1$ and any sufficiently regular initial data $u(x,0)\geq 0$ and $v(x,0)>0$ on $\barΩ$, we show the existence of global classical solutions. Moreover, if additionally $m:=\int_Ωu(x,0)$ is sufficiently small, then also their boundedness is achieved.
We enter the details of two recent articles concerning as many chemotaxis models, one nonlinear and the other linear, and both with produced chemoattractant and saturated chemorepellent. These works, when properly analyzed, leave open room for some improvement of their results. We generalize the outcomes of the mentioned articles, establish other statements and put all the claims together; in particular, we select the sharpest ones and schematize them. Moreover, we complement our research also when logistic sources are considered in the overall study.
This paper deals with the homogeneous Neumann boundary-value problem for the chemotaxis-consumption system \begin{eqnarray*} \begin{array}{llc} u_t=Δu-χ\nabla\cdot (u\nabla v)+κu-μu^2,\\ v_t=Δv-uv, \end{array} \end{eqnarray*} in $N$-dimensional bounded smooth domains for suitably regular positive initial data. We shall establish the existence of a global bounded classical solution for suitably large $μ$ and prove that for any $μ>0$ there exists a weak solution. Moreover, in the case of $κ>0$ convergence to the constant equilibrium $(\fracκμ,0)$ is shown.
We consider the parabolic chemotaxis model \[ u_t=Δu - χ\nabla\cdot(\frac uv \nabla v), \qquad\qquad v_t=Δv - v + u\] in a smooth, bounded, convex two-dimensional domain and show global existence and boundedness of solutions for $χ\in(0,χ_0)$ for some $χ_0>1$, thereby proving that the value $χ=1$ is not critical in this regard. Our main tool is consideration of the energy functional \[ \mathcal{F}_{a,b}(u,v)=\int_Ωu\ln u - a \int_Ωu\ln v + b \int_Ω|\nabla \sqrt{v}|^2 \] for $a>0$, $b\geq 0$, where using nonzero values of $b$ appears to be new in this context.
This paper deals with the fully parabolic attraction-repulsion chemotaxis system \begin{align*} u_t=Δu-χ\nabla \cdot (u\nabla v)+ξ\nabla\cdot(u \nabla w), \quad v_t=Δv-v+u, \quad w_t=Δw-w+u, \quad x \in Ω,\ t>0 \end{align*} under homogeneous Neumann boundary conditions and initial conditions, where $Ω$ is an open ball in $\mathbb{R}^n$ ($n \ge 3$), $χ, ξ>0$ are constants. When $w=0$, finite-time blow-up in the corresponding Keller-Segel system has already been obtained. However, finite-time blow-up in the above attraction-repulsion chemotaxis system has not yet been established except for the …
We consider a chemotaxis-fluid system involving nonlinear cell diffusion of porous medium type, signal consumption by cells, and rather general, possibly matrix-valued, chemotactic sensitivities. It is shown that if the corresponding diffusion exponent $m$ satisfies $m>7/6$, then for all reasonably regaular initial data an associated initial-boundary value problem in smoothly bounded three-dimensional domains possesses a globally defined weak solution which is bounded. Under a mild additional assumption on the signal consumption rate, it is moreover shown that any nontrivial of these solutions…
In this paper we study a zero-flux attraction-repulsion che\-mo\-taxis-system. We show that despite any mutual interplay between the repulsive and attractive coefficients from the corresponding chemo-sensitivities, even less any restriction on their own sizes, if the production rate of that chemical signal responsible of the cellular coalescence is sublinear, then any initial data emanate a unique global classical solution, which is as well bounded. Further, in a remark of the manuscript, we also address an open question given in \cite{Viglialoro2019RepulsionAttraction}.
This paper is concerned with the 3-dimensional two-species chemotaxis-Navier--Stokes system with Lotka--Volterra competitive kinetics under homogeneous Neumann boundary conditions and initial conditions. Recently, in the 2-dimensional setting, global existence and stabilization of classical solutions to the above system were first established. However, the 3-dimensional case has not been studied: Because of difficulties in the Navier--Stokes system, we can not expect existence of classical solutions to the above system. The purpose of this paper is to obtain global existence of weak solutions …
We consider an attraction-repulsion chemotaxis model coupled with the Navier-Stokes system. This model describes the interaction between a type of cells (e.g., bacteria), which proliferate following a logistic law, and two chemical signals produced by the cells themselves that degraded at a constant rate. Also, it is considered that the chemoattractant is consumed with a rate proportional to the amount of organisms. The cells and chemical substances are transported by a viscous incompressible fluid under the influence of a force due to the aggregation of cells. We prove the existence of global…
Well-posedness and uniform-in-time boundedness of classical solutions are investigated for a three-component parabolic system which describes the dynamics of a population of cells interacting with a chemoattractant and a nutrient. The former induces a chemotactic bias in the diffusive motion of the cells and is accounted for by a density-suppressed motility. Well-posedness is first established for generic positive and non-increasing motility functions vanishing at infinity. Growth conditions on the motility function guaranteeing the uniform-in-time boundedness of solutions are next identified.…
Global existence is established for classical solutions to a chemotaxis model with signal-dependent motility for a general class of motility functions $γ$ which may in particular decay in an arbitrary way at infinity. Assuming further that $γ$ is non-increasing and decays sufficiently slowly at infinity, in the sense that $γ(s)\sim s^{-k}$ as $s\to\infty$ for some $k\in (0,N/(N-2)_+)$, it is also shown that global solutions are uniformly bounded with respect to time. The admissible decay of $γ$ at infinity here is higher than in previous works.
We consider a parabolic-parabolic Keller-Segel system of chemotaxis model with singular sensitivity $u_t=Δu-χ\nabla\cdot(\frac{u}{v}\nabla v)$, $v_t=kΔv-v+u$ under homogeneous Neumann boundary conditions in a smooth bounded domain $Ω\subset\mathbb{R}^n$ $(n\geq2)$, with $χ,k>0$. It is proved that for any $k>0$, the problem admits global classical solutions, whenever $χ\in\big(0,-\frac{k-1}{2}+\frac{1}{2}\sqrt{(k-1)^2+\frac{8k}{n}}\big)$. The global solutions are moreover globally bounded if $n\le 8$. This shows an exact way the size of the diffusion constant $k$ of the chemicals $v$ effects th…

This paper is concerned with the attraction-repulsion chemotaxis system with superlinear logistic degradation, \begin{align*} \begin{cases} u_t = Δu - χ\nabla\cdot(u \nabla v) + ξ\nabla\cdot (u \nabla w) + λu - μu^k, \quad &x \in Ω,\ t>0,\\[1.05mm] 0= Δv + αu - βv, \quad &x \in Ω,\ t>0,\\[1.05mm] 0= Δw + γu - δw, \quad &x \in Ω,\ t>0, \end{cases} \end{align*} under homogeneous Neumann boundary conditions, in a ball $Ω\subset \mathbb{R}^n$ ($n \ge 3$), with constant parameters $λ\in \mathbb{R}$, $k>1$, $μ, χ, ξ, α, β, γ, δ>0$. Blow-up phenomena in the system have been well investigated in the c…

We revisit the following chemotaxis system modeling tumor invasion \begin{equation*} \begin{cases} u_t=Δu-\nabla \cdot(u\nabla v),& x\inΩ, t>0,\\ v_t=Δv+wz,& x\inΩ, t>0,\\ w_t=-wz,& x\inΩ, t>0,\\ z_t=Δz-z+u, & x\inΩ, t>0,\\ \end{cases} \end{equation*} in a smooth bounded domain $Ω\subset \mathbb{R}^n(n\geq 1)$ with homogeneous Neumann boundary and initial conditions. This model was recently proposed by Fujie et al. \cite{FIY14} as a model for tumor invasion with the role of extracellular matrix incorporated, and was analyzed by Fujie et al. \cite{FIWY16}, showing the uniform boundedness and co…
In this work, we rigorously study chemotaxis effect versus haptotaxis effect on boundedness, blow-up and asymptotical behavior of solutions for a combined chemotaxis-haptotaxis model in 2D settings. It is well-known that the corresponding Keller-Segel chemotaxis-only model possesses a striking feature of critical mass blow-up phenomenon, namely, subcritical mass ensures boundedness, whereas, supercritical mass induces the existence of blow-ups. Herein, we show that this critical mass blow-up phenomenon stays almost the same in the full chemotaxis-haptotaxis model. For negligibility of haptotax…
A semilinear version of parabolic-elliptic Keller-Segel system with the \emph{critical} nonlocal diffusion is considered in one space dimension. We show boundedness of weak solutions under very general conditions on our semilinearity. It can degenerate, but has to provide a stronger dissipation for large values of a solution than in the critical linear case or we need to assume certain (explicit) data smallness. Moreover, when one considers a logistic term with a parameter $r$, we obtain our results even for diffusions slightly weaker than the critical linear one and for arbitrarily large init…
In this work, we study dynamic properties of classical solutions to a homogenous Neumann initial-boundary value problem (IBVP) for a two-species and two-stimuli chemotaxis model with/without chemical signalling loop in a 2D bounded and smooth domain. We successfully detect the product of two species masses as a feature to determine boundedness, gradient estimates, blow-up and $W^{j,\infty}(1\leq j\leq 3)$-exponential convergence of classical solutions for the corresponding IBVP. More specifically, we first show generally a smallness on the product of both species masses, thus allowing one spec…
This paper deals with the quasilinear attraction-repulsion chemotaxis system \begin{align*} \begin{cases} u_t=\nabla\cdot \big((u+1)^{m-1}\nabla u -χu(u+1)^{p-2}\nabla v +ξu(u+1)^{q-2}\nabla w\big),\\[] 0=Δv+αu-βv,\\[] 0=Δw+γu-δw \end{cases} \end{align*} in a bounded domain $Ω\subset \mathbb{R}^n$ $(n \in \mathbb{N})$ with smooth boundary $\partial Ω$, where $m, p, q \in \mathbb{R}$, $χ, ξ, α, β, γ, δ>0$ are constants. In the case that $m=1$ and $p=q=2$, when $χα-ξγ<0$ and $β=δ$, Tao-Wang (Math. Models Methods Appl. Sci.; 2013; 23; 1-36) proved that global bounded classical solutions toward th…
In this paper we consider the initial Neumann boundary value problem for a degenerate Keller--Segel model which features a signal-dependent non-increasing motility function. The main obstacle of analysis comes from the possible degeneracy when the signal concentration becomes unbounded. In the current work, we are interested in boundedness and exponential stability of the classical solution in higher dimensions. With the aid of a Lyapunov functional and a delicate Alikakos--Moser type iteration, we are able to establish a time-independent upper bound of the concentration provided that the moti…

In present paper, we consider a chemotaxis consumption system with density-signal governed sensitivity and logistic source: $u_t=Δu-\nabla\cdot(\frac{S(u)}{v}\nabla v)+ru-μu^2$, $v_t=Δv-uv$ in a smooth bounded domain $Ω\subset\mathbb{R}^n$ $(n\ge2)$, where parameters $r,μ>0$ and density governed sensitivity fulfills $ S(u) \simeq u(u+1)^{β-1}$ for all $u\ge0$ with $β\in \mathbb{R}$. It is proved that for any $r,μ>0$, there exists a global classical solution if $β<1$ and $n\ge2$. Moreover, the global boundedness and the asymptotic behavior of the classical solution are determined for the case $…

It has been well established that, in attraction-repulsion Keller-Segel systems of the form\begin{equation*} \left\{ \begin{aligned} u_t &= Δu - χ\nabla \cdot (u\nabla v) + ξ\nabla \cdot (u\nabla w), \\ τv_t &= Δv + αu - βv,\\ τw_t &= Δw + γu - δw \end{aligned} \right. \end{equation*} in a smooth bounded domain $Ω\subseteq \mathbb{R}^n$, $n\in\mathbb{N}$, with Neumann boundary conditions and parameters $χ, ξ\geq 0$, $α,β,γ,δ> 0$ and $τ\in \{0,1\}$, finite-time blow-up can be ruled out in many scenarios given sufficiently smooth initial data if the repulsive chemotaxis is sufficiently stronger …
