We present an algorithm for solving stochastic heat equations, whose key ingredient is a non-uniform time discretization of the driving Brownian motion $W$. For this algorithm we derive an error bound in terms of its number of evaluations of one-dimensional components of $W$. The rate of convergence depends on the spatial dimension of the heat equation and on the decay of the eigenfunctions of the covariance of $W$. According to known lower bounds, our algorithm is optimal, up to a constant, and this optimality cannot be achieved by uniform time discretizations.
In this paper we focus on the stochastic Euler-Poincaré equations with pseudo-differential/multiplicative noise. We first establish two new cancellation properties on pseudo-differential operators, which play a key role in energy estimate. Then, we obtain results on local solution, blow-up criterion and global existence. The interplay between stability on exiting times and continuous dependence of solution on initial data are also studied for the multiplicative noise case.
This paper investigates a numerical probabilistic method for the solution of some semilinear stochastic partial differential equations (SPDEs in short). The numerical scheme is based on discrete time approximation for solutions of systems of decoupled forward-backward doubly stochastic differential equations. Under standard assumptions on the parameters, the convergence and the rate of convergence of the numerical scheme is proven. The proof is based on a generalization of the result on the path regularity of the backward equation.
We establish the local existence of pathwise solutions for the stochastic Euler equations in a three-dimensional bounded domain with slip boundary conditions and a very general nonlinear multiplicative noise. In the two-dimensional case we obtain the global existence of these solutions with additive or linear-multiplicative noise. Lastly, we show that, in the three dimensional case, the addition of linear multiplicative noise provides a regularizing effect; the global existence of solutions occurs with high probability if the initial data is sufficiently small, or if the noise coefficient is s…
In this paper we derive weak limits for the discretization errors of sampling barrier-hitting and extreme events of Brownian motion by using the Euler discretization simulation method. Specifically, we consider the Euler discretization approximation of Brownian motion to sample barrier-hitting events, i.e. hitting for the first time a deterministic "barrier" function; and to sample extreme events, i.e. attaining a minimum on a given compact time interval or unbounded closed time interval. For each case we study the discretization error between the actual time the event occurs versus the time t…
In a previous paper, we studied the ergodic properties of an Euler scheme of a stochastic differential equation with a Gaussian additive noise in order to approximate the stationary regime of such equation. We now consider the case of multiplicative noise when the Gaussian process is a fractional Brownian Motion with Hurst parameter H>1/2 and obtain some (functional) convergences properties of some empirical measures of the Euler scheme to the stationary solutions of such SDEs.
In this work, we introduce a new discretization to the fractional Laplacian and use it to elaborate an approximation scheme for fractional heat equations perturbed by a multiplicative cylindrical white noise. In particular, we estimate the rate of convergence.
3D stochastic Euler equations with a special form of multiplicative noise are considered. A Constantin-Iyer type representation in Euler-Lagrangian form is given, based on stochastic characteristics. Local existence and uniqueness of solutions in suitable Hoelder spaces is proved from the Euler-Lagrangian formulation.
The two dimensional stochastic Euler equations (EE) perturbed by a linear multiplicative noise of Itô type on the bounded domain $\mathcal{O}$ have been considered in this work. Our first aim is to prove the existence of \textsl{global weak (analytic) solutions} for stochastic EE when the divergence free initial data $\boldsymbol{u}^*\in\mathbb{H}^1(\mathcal{O})$, and the external forcing $\boldsymbol{f}\in\mathrm{L}^2_{\mathrm{loc}}(\mathbb{R};\mathbb{H}^1(\mathcal{O}))$. In order to prove the existence of weak solutions, a vanishing viscosity technique has been adopted. In addition, if $\mat…
We obtain non asymptotic bounds for the Monte Carlo algorithm associated to the Euler discretization of some diffusion processes. The key tool is the Gaussian concentration satisfied by the density of the discretization scheme. This Gaussian concentration is derived from a Gaussian upper bound of the density of the scheme and a modification of the so-called "Herbst argument" used to prove Logarithmic Sobolev inequalities. We eventually establish a Gaussian lower bound for the density of the scheme that emphasizes the concentration is sharp.
This paper is concerned with the adaptive numerical treatment of stochastic partial differential equations. Our method of choice is Rothe's method. We use the implicit Euler scheme for the time discretization. Consequently, in each step, an elliptic equation with random right-hand side has to be solved. In practice, this cannot be performed exactly, so that efficient numerical methods are needed. Well-established adaptive wavelet or finite-element schemes, which are guaranteed to converge with optimal order, suggest themselves. We investigate how the errors corresponding to the adaptive spatia…
We prove weak existence of Euler equation (or Navier-Stokes equation) perturbed by a multiplicative noise on bounded domains of $\mathbb R^2$ with Dirichlet boundary conditions and with periodic boundary conditions. Solutions are $H^1$ regular. The equations are of transport type.
In this paper, we are dealing with the approximation of the process (Y,Z) solution to the backward doubly stochastic differential equation with the forward process X . After proving the L2-regularity of Z, we use the Euler scheme to discretize X and the Zhang approach in order to give a discretization scheme of the process (Y,Z).
We prove that the implicit time Euler scheme coupled with finite elements space discretization for the 2D Navier-Stokes equations on the torus subject to a random perturbation converges in $L^2(Ω)$, and describe the rate of convergence for an $H^1$-valued initial condition. This refines previous results which only established the convergence in probability of these numerical approximations. Using exponential moment estimates of the solution of the stochastic Navier-Stokes equations and convergence of a localized scheme, we can prove strong convergence of this space-time approximation. The spee…
In this survey we present the near-optimal stochastic control problem according to some recent tools in the literature. In particular, we focus on the approach of a discretization of the noise values instead of the canonical time-discretization. This is the so called {\it skeleton} structure. This allows to obtain an $ε$-optimal control in non-Markovian systems (the main Theorem). A simple example illustrates the technique. The importance of the approach is emphasised in a final section on open problems related to more geometrical framework and discontinuous noise.
We consider SDEs with bounded and $α$-Hölder continuous drift, with $α\in (0,1)$, driven by multiplicative noise. We show that under sufficient conditions on the diffusion matrix, which guarantee the existence of a unique strong solution, the weak rate of convergence for the Euler-Maruyama scheme is almost $(1+α)/2$. The present paper forms part of the author's master's thesis.
We consider a log-gas on a discretization of the unit circle. We prove that if the gas is not too dense, or the number of particles in the gas is not too large compared to the scale of the discretization, the absolute value of the characteristic polynomial can be described in terms of a Gaussian multiplicative chaos measure. This is done by analyzing discrete Toeplitz determinants with Fisher-Hartwig singularities. In particular, we prove that if the gas is not too dense, the classical Fisher-Hartwig conjecture holds for the discrete Toeplitz determinant as well. Our analysis suggests that if …
In this paper, we study probabilistic numerical methods based on optimal quantization algorithms for computing the solution to optimal multiple switching problems with regime-dependent state process. We first consider a discrete-time approximation of the optimal switching problem, and analyze its rate of convergence. Given a time step $h$, the error is in general of order $(h \log(1/h))^{1/2}$, and of order $h^{1/2}$ when the switching costs do not depend on the state process. We next propose quantization numerical schemes for the space discretization of the discrete-time Euler state process. …
In this paper, we focus on non-asymptotic bounds related to the Euler scheme of an ergodic diffusion with a possibly multiplicative diffusion term (non-constant diffusion coefficient). More precisely, the objective of this paper is to control the distance of the standard Euler scheme with decreasing step ({usually called Unadjusted Langevin Algorithm in the Monte Carlo literature}) to the invariant distribution of such an ergodic diffusion. In an appropriate Lyapunov setting and under {uniform} ellipticity assumptions on the diffusion coefficient, we establish (or improve) such bounds for Tota…
In this paper we show the existence of the minimal solution to the multidimensional Lambert-Euler inversion, a multidimensional generalization of $[-e^{-1} ,0)$ branch of Lambert W function $W_0(x)$. Specifically, for a given nonnegative irreducible symmetric matrix $V \in \mathbb{R}^{k \times k}$, we show that for ${\bf u}\in(0,\infty)^k$, if equation $$y_j \exp\{-{\bf e}_j^T V {\bf y} \} = u_j ~~~~~~\forall j=1,...,k,$$ has at least one solution, it must have a minimal solution ${\bf y}^*$, where the minimum is achieved in all coordinates $y_j$ simultaneously. Moreover, such ${\bf y}^*$ is t…
Asymptotic error distribution for approximation of a stochastic integral with respect to continuous semimartingale by Riemann sum with general stochastic partition is studied. Effective discretization schemes of which asymptotic conditional mean-squared error attains a lower bound are constructed. Two applications are given; efficient delta hedging strategies with transaction costs and effective discretization schemes for the Euler-Maruyama approximation are constructed.

We prove the existence of a unique local strong solution to the stochastic compressible Euler system with nonlinear multiplicative noise. This solution exists up to a positive stopping time and is strong in both the PDE and probabilistic sense. Based on this existence result, we study the inviscid limit of the stochastic compressible Navier--Stokes system. As the viscosity tends to zero, any sequence of finite energy weak martingale solutions converges to the compressible Euler system.
Strong existence and pathwise uniqueness of solutions with $L^{\infty}$-vorticity of 2D stochastic Euler equations is proved. The noise is multiplicative and involves first derivatives. A Lagrangian approach is implemented, where a stochastic flow solving a nonlinear flow equation is constructed. Stability under regularization is also proved.
We establish a general theory of optimal strong error estimation for numerical approximations of a second-order parabolic stochastic partial differential equation with monotone drift driven by a multiplicative infinite-dimensional Wiener process. The equation is spatially discretized by Galerkin methods and temporally discretized by drift-implicit Euler and Milstein schemes. By the monotone and Lyapunov assumptions, we use both the variational and semigroup approaches to derive a spatial Sobolev regularity under the $L_ω^p L_t^\infty \dot H^{1+γ}$-norm and a temporal Hölder regularity under th…
We discrete the ergodic semilinear stochastic partial differential equations in space dimension $d \leq 3$ with additive noise, spatially by a spectral Galerkin method and temporally by an exponential Euler scheme. It is shown that both the spatial semi-discretization and the spatio-temporal full discretization are ergodic. Further, convergence orders of the numerical invariant measures, depending on the regularity of noise, are recovered based on an easy time-independent weak error analysis without relying on Malliavin calculus. To be precise, the convergence order is $1-ε$ in space and $\fra…
