We prove the existence of a unique local strong solution to the stochastic compressible Euler system with nonlinear multiplicative noise. This solution exists up to a positive stopping time and is strong in both the PDE and probabilistic sense. Based on this existence result, we study the inviscid limit of the stochastic compressible Navier--Stokes system. As the viscosity tends to zero, any sequence of finite energy weak martingale solutions converges to the compressible Euler system.
In this paper we study the incompressible inviscid limit for a compressible micro-polar model. We prove that the weak solution of the compressible micro-polar system converges to the solution of the Navier-Stokes equations (Euler equations) in the limit of small Mach number (and vanishing viscosity).
We study singular limit for scaled barotropic Euler system modelling a rotating, compressible and inviscid fluid, where Mach and Rossby numbers are proportional to a small parameter $ε$. If the fluid is confined to an infinite slab, the limit behaviour is identified as a horizontal motion of an incompressible inviscid system that is analogous to the Euler system. We consider a very general class of solutions, named dissipative solution for the scaled compressible Euler systems and will show that it converges to a strong solution of that incompressible inviscid system.
We consider the compressible Navier-Stokes system describing the motion of a barotropic fluid with density dependent viscosity confined in a three-dimensional bounded domain $Ω$. We show the convergence of the weak solution to the compressible Navier-Stokes system to the strong solution to the compressible Euler system when the viscosity and the damping coefficients tend to zero.
We consider inviscid flow with isentropic coefficient greater than one. For flow along smooth infinite protruding corners we attempt to impose a nonzero limit for velocity at infinity at the upstream wall. We prove that the problem does not have any irrotational uniformly subsonic solutions, whereas rotational flows do exist. This can be considered a case of a slip-condition solid "generating" vorticity in inviscid flow.
We consider the motion of an inviscid compressible fluid under the mutual interactions with magnetic field. We show that the initial value problem is ill--posed in the class of weak solutions for a large class of physically admissible data. We also consider the same problem for inviscid heat--conductive fluid and show the same result under certain restrictions imposed on the magnetic field. The main tool is the method of convex integration adapted to the Euler system with `variable coefficients'.
We obtain existence and conormal Sobolev regularity of strong solutions to the 3D compressible isentropic Navier-Stokes system on the half-space with a Navier boundary condition, over a time that is uniform with respect to the viscosity parameters when these are small. These solutions then converge globally and strongly in $L^2$ towards the solution of the compressible isentropic Euler system when the viscosity parameters go to zero.
In this paper, we prove the leading term of time-asymptotics of the moving vacuum boundary for compressible inviscid flows with damping to be that for Barenblatt self-similar solutions to the corresponding porous media equations obtained by simplifying momentum equations via Darcy's law plus the possible shift due to the movement of the center of mass, in the one-dimensional and three-dimensional spherically symmetric motions, respectively. This gives a complete description of the large time asymptotic behavior of solutions to the corresponding vacuum free boundary problems. The results obtain…
The inviscid limit for the two-dimensional compressible viscoelastic equations on the half plane is considered under the no-slip boundary condition. When the initial deformation tensor is a perturbation of the identity matrix and the initial density is near a positive constant, we establish the uniform estimates of solutions to the compressible viscoelastic flows in the conormal Sobolev spaces. It is well-known that for the corresponding inviscid limit of the compressible Navier-Stokes equations with the no-slip boundary condition, one does not expect the uniform energy estimates of solutions …
General perturbations of a spherical gas bubble in a compressible and inviscid fluid with surface tension were proved in Shapiro and Weinstein (2011), in the linearized approximation, to decay exponentially, $\sim e^{-Γt}, Γ>0$, as time advances. Formal asymptotic and numerical evidence led to the conjecture that $Γ\approx \frac{A}ε \frac{We}{ε^{2}} \exp(-B \frac{We}{ε^2})$, where $0<ε\ll1$ is the Mach number, We is the Weber number, and $A$ and $B$ are positive constants. In this paper, we prove this conjecture and calculate $A$ and $B$ to leading order in $ε$.
We establish various criteria, which are known in the incompressible case, for the validity of the inviscid limit for the compressible Navier-Stokes flows considered in a general domain $Ω$ in $\mathbb{R}^n$ with or without a boundary. In the presence of a boundary, a generalized Navier boundary condition for velocity is assumed, which in particular by convention includes the classical no-slip boundary conditions. In this general setting we extend the Kato criteria and show the convergence to a solution which is dissipative "up to the boundary". In the case of smooth solutions, the convergence…
We consider the coupling between the equations of motion of a compressible fluid in two and three space dimensions with Christov's equation for the heat flux. Christov's equation is a frame indifferent formulation of the classical model of Cattaneo that allows for the heat flux to be eliminated to obtain a single hyperbolic equation for the temperature. The obtained system is written in quasilinear form for the state variables density, velocity, temperature and heat flux. It is then shown that this system is not of hyperbolic type as consequence of the presence of the Lie-Oldroyd upper convect…
In three space dimensions, we consider the compressible inviscid model describing the time evolution of two fluids sharing the same velocity and enjoying the algebraic pressure closure. By employing the technique of convex integration, we prove the existence of infinitely many global-in-time weak solutions for any smooth initial data. We also show that for any piecewise constant initial densities, there exists suitable initial velocity such that the problem admits infinitely many global-in-time weak solutions that conserve the total energy. The structure of the two-fluid model is crucial in ou…
The collective behavior of animals can be modeled by a system of equations of continuum mechanics endowed with extra terms describing repulsive and attractive forces between the individuals. This system can be viewed as a generalization of the compressible Euler equations with all of its unpleasant consequences, e.g., the non-uniqueness of solutions. In this paper, we analyze the equations describing a viscous approximation of a generalized compressible Euler system and we show that its dissipative measure-valued solutions tend to a strong solution of the Euler system as viscosity tends to 0, …
A semi-explicit formula of solution to the boundary layer system for thermal layer derived from the compressible Navier-Stokes equations with the non-slip boundary condition when the viscosity coefficients vanish is given, in particular in three space dimension. In contrast to the inviscid Prandtl system studied by [7] in two space dimension, the main difficulty comes from the coupling of the velocity field and the temperature field through a degenerate parabolic equation. The convergence of these boundary layer equations to the inviscid Prandtl system is justified when the initial temperature…
We consider a system describing the motion of an isentropic, inviscid, weakly com-pressible, fast rotating fluid in the whole space R^3 , with initial data belonging to H^s(R^3) , s \textgreater{} 5/2. We prove that the system admits a unique local strong solution in L^$\infty$([0, T ]; H^s(R^3)) , where T is independent of the Rossby and Mach numbers. Moreover, using Strichartz-type estimates, we prove that the solution is almost global, i.e. its lifespan is of the order of $ε$^(--$α$) , $α$ \textgreater{} 0, without any smallness assumption on the initial data (the initial data can even go t…
The formation of singularity and breakdown of classical solutions to the three-dimensional compressible viscoelasticity and inviscid elasticity are considered. For the compressible inviscid elastic fluids, the finite-time formation of singularity in classical solutions is proved for certain initial data. For the compressible viscoelastic fluids, a criterion in term of the temporal integral of the velocity gradient is obtained for the breakdown of smooth solutions.

In the recent paper, the global-in-time inviscid limit of the three-dimensional (3D) isentropic compressible Navier-Stokes equations is considered. First, when viscosity coefficients are given as a constant multiple of density's power ($(ρ^ε)^δ$ with $δ>1$), for regular solutions to the corresponding Cauchy problem, via introducing one "quasi-symmetric hyperbolic"--"degenerate elliptic" coupled structure to control the behavior of the velocity near the vacuum, we establish the uniform energy estimates for the local sound speed in $H^3$ and $(ρ^ε)^{\frac{δ-1}{2}}$ in $H^2$ with respect to the v…
Singular vorticty solutions of the incompressible 3D-Euler equation are constructed which satisfy the BKM criterion (cf. [2]). The construction is done by inviscid limits of vorticity solutions of transformed incompressible Navier Stokes type equations with a damping potential term, where the latter equations admit a global regular solution for positive viscosity. The inviscid limit vorticity solution of the incompressible Euler vorticity equation becomes singular at a point of the boundary of a finite domain.
We consider the Rayleigh-Taylor problem for two compressible, immiscible, inviscid, barotropic fluids evolving with a free interface in the presence of a uniform gravitational field. After constructing Rayleigh-Taylor steady-state solutions with a denser fluid lying above the free interface with the second fluid, we turn to an analysis of the equations obtained from linearizing around such a steady state. By a natural variational approach, we construct normal mode solutions that grow exponentially in time with rate like $e^{t \sqrt{\absξ}}$, where $ξ$ is the spatial frequency of the normal mod…
We establish the existence of an axisymmetric weak solution to the steady Euler system with a transonic shock, nonzero vorticity, and nonzero swirl in a three-dimensional cylinder. When prescribing the supersonic solution in the upstream region by axisymmetric functions with variable entropy and variable angular momentum density(=swirl), we construct such a solution by using a Helmholtz decomposition of the velocity field and the method of iteration. An iteration scheme is developed using a delicate decomposition of the Rankine-Hugoniot conditions on the transonic shock via Helmholtz decomposi…
For the physical vacuum free boundary problem with the sound speed being $C^{{1}/{2}}$-H$\ddot{\rm o}$lder continuous near vacuum boundaries of the three-dimensional compressible Euler equations with damping, the global existence of spherically symmetric smooth solutions is proved, which are shown to converge to Barenblatt self-similar solutions of the porous media equation with the same total masses when initial data are small perturbations of Barenblatt solutions. The pointwise convergence with a rate of density, the convergence rate of velocity in supreme norm and the precise expanding rate…
We consider the zero heat conductivity limit to a contact discontinuity for the mono-dimensional full compressible Navier-Stokes-Fourier system. The method is based on the relative entropy method, and do not assume any smallness conditions on the discontinuity, nor on the $BV$ norm of the initial data. It is proved that for any viscosity $ν\geq0$, the solution of the compressible Navier-Stokes-Fourier system (with well prepared initial value) converges, when the heat conductivity $κ$ tends to zero, to the contact discontinuity solution to the corresponding Euler system. We obtain the decay rat…
This paper addresses the weak-strong uniqueness property and singular limit for the compressible Primitive Equations (PE). We show that a weak solution coincides with the strong solution emanating from the same initial data. On the other hand, we prove compressible PE will approach the incompressible inviscid PE equations in the regime of low Mach number and large Reynolds number in the case of well-prepared initial data. To the best of the authors' knowledge, this is the first work to bridge the link between the compressible PE with incompressible inviscid PE.
The uniqueness of entropy solution for the compressible Euler equations is a fundamental and challenging problem. In this paper, the uniqueness of a composite wave of shock and rarefaction of 1-d compressible Euler equations is proved in the inviscid limit of compressible Navier-Stokes equations. Moreover, the relative entropy around the original Riemann solution consisting of shock and rarefaction under the large perturbation is shown to be uniformly bounded by the framework developed in \cite{Kang-Vasseur-2021-Invent}. The proof contains two new ingredients: 1) a cut-off technique and the ex…
We study the convergence rate of the solutions of the incompressible Euler-$α$, an inviscid second-grade complex fluid, equations to the corresponding solutions of the Euler equations, as the regularization parameter $α$ approaches zero. First we show the convergence in $H^{s}$, $s>n/2+1$, in the whole space, and that the smooth Euler-$α$ solutions exist at least as long as the corresponding solution of the Euler equations. Next we estimate the convergence rate for two-dimensional vortex patch with smooth boundaries.
In this article, I will report a Lax pair structure, a Backlund-Darboux transformation, and the investigation of homoclinic structures for 2D Euler equations of incompressible inviscid fluids.
We prove higher-order and a Gevrey class (spatial analytic) regularity of solutions to the Euler-Voigt inviscid $α$-regularization of the three-dimensional Euler equations of ideal incompressible fluids. Moreover, we establish the convergence of strong solutions of the Euler-Voigt model to the corresponding solution of the three-dimensional Euler equations for inviscid flow on the interval of existence of the latter. Furthermore, we derive a criterion for finite-time blow-up of the Euler equations based on this inviscid regularization. The coupling of a magnetic field to the Euler-Voigt model …
We consider the full Navier-Stokes-Fourier system in the singular regime of small Mach and large Reynolds and Peclet numbers, with ill prepared initial data on an unbounded domain in the three dimensional Euclidean space with a compact boundary. We perform the singular limit in the framework of weak solutions and identify the Euler-Boussinesq system as the target problem.
We are concerned with the inviscid limit of the Navier-Stokes equations to the Euler equations for compressible fluids in $\mathbb{R}^3$. Motivated by the Kolmogorov hypothesis (1941) for incompressible flow, we introduce a Kolmogorov-type hypothesis for barotropic flows, in which the density and the sonic speed normally vary significantly. We then observe that the compressible Kolmogorov-type hypothesis implies the uniform boundedness of some fractional derivatives of the weighted velocity and sonic speed in the space variables in $L^2$, which is independent of the viscosity coefficient $μ>0$…
We prove the existence of a subsonic weak solution $({\bf u}, ρ, p)$ to steady Euler system in a two-dimensional infinitely long nozzle when prescribing the value of the entropy $(= \frac{p}{ρ^γ})$ at the entrance by a piecewise $C^2$ function with a discontinuity at a point. Due to the variable entropy condition with a discontinuity at the entrance, the corresponding solution has a nonzero vorticity and contains a contact discontinuity $x_2=g_D(x_1)$. We construct such a solution via Helmholtz decomposition. The key step is to decompose the Rankine-Hugoniot conditions on the contact discontin…
We prove the existence of relative finite-energy vanishing viscosity solutions of the one-dimensional, isentropic Euler equations under the assumption of an asymptotically isothermal pressure law, that is, $p(ρ)/ρ= O(1)$ in the limit $ρ\to \infty$. This solution is obtained as the vanishing viscosity limit of classical solutions of the one-dimensional, isentropic, compressible Navier--Stokes equations. Our approach relies on the method of compensated compactness to pass to the limit rigorously in the nonlinear terms. Key to our strategy is the derivation of hyperbolic representation formulas f…
We investigate the inviscid compressible flow (Euler) equations constrained by an "isentropic" equation of state (EOS), whose functional form in pressure is an arbitrary function of density alone. Under the aforementioned condition, we interrogate using symmetry methods the scale-invariance of the homentropic inviscid Euler equations. We find that under general conditions, we can reduce the inviscid Euler equations into a system of two coupled ordinary differential equations. To exemplify the utility of these results, we formulate two example scale-invariant, self-similar solutions. The first …
In this paper we prove the uniform-in-time $L^p$ convergence in the inviscid limit of a family $ω^ν$ of solutions of the $2D$ Navier-Stokes equations towards a renormalized/Lagrangian solution $ω$ of the Euler equations. We also prove that, in the class of solutions with bounded vorticity, it is possible to obtain a rate for the convergence of $ω^ν$ to $ω$ in $L^p$. Finally, we show that solutions of the Euler equations with $L^p$ vorticity, obtained in the vanishing viscosity limit, conserve the kinetic energy. The proofs are given by using both a (stochastic) Lagrangian approach and an Euler…
We consider in a smooth and bounded two dimensional domain the convergence in the $L^2$ norm, uniformly in time, of the solution of the stochastic Navier-Stokes equations with additive noise and no-slip boundary conditions to the solution of the corresponding Euler equations. We prove, under general regularity on the initial conditions of the Euler equations, that assuming the dissipation of the energy of the solution of the Navier-Stokes equations in a Kato type boundary layer, then the inviscid limit holds.
The paper improves the classical uniqueness result for the Euler system in the $n$ dimensional case assuming that $\nabla u^E \in L_1(0,T;BMO(Ω))$, only. Moreover the rate of the convergence for the inviscid limit of solutions to the Navier-Stokes equations is obtained, provided the same regularity of the limit Eulerian flow. A key element of the proof is a logarithmic inequality between the Hardy and $L_1$ spaces which is a consequence of the basic properties of the Zygmund space $\LlnL$.
In this note we revisit the proof of Bedrossian and Masmoudi [arXiv:1306.5028] about the inviscid damping of planar shear flows in the 2D Euler equations under the assumption of zero mean perturbation. We prove that a small perturbation to the 2D Euler Couette flow in $\mathbb{T}\times \mathbb{R}$ strongly converge to zero, under the additional assumption that the average in $x$ is always zero. In general the mean is not a conserved quantity for the nonlinear dynamics, for this reason this is a particular case. Nevertheless our assumption allow the presence of echoes in the problem, which we c…
The vanishing viscosity limit of the two-dimensional (2D) compressible isentropic Navier-Stokes equations is studied in the case that the corresponding 2D inviscid Euler equations admit a planar rarefaction wave solution. It is proved that there exists a family of smooth solutions for the 2D compressible Navier-Stokes equations converging to the planar rarefaction wave solution with arbitrary strength for the 2D Euler equations. A uniform convergence rate is obtained in terms of the viscosity coefficients away from the initial time. In the proof, the hyperbolic wave is crucially introduced to …
