Let M be a finite Riemann surface and let A(bM) be the algebra of all continuous functions on bM which extend holomorphically through M. We prove that a continuous function F on bM belongs to A(bM) if for each f, g in A(bM) such that fF+g has no zero the change of argument of fF+g along bM is nonnegative.
We construct an example of a holomorphic motion of a five-point subset of the Riemann sphere over an annulus such that it satisfies the zero winding number condition but is not fully extendable.
Let D be a bounded, finitely connected domain in the complex plane without isolated points in the boundary and let f be a continuous function on the boundary bD. Let F be a continuous extension of f to the closure of D. We prove that f extends holomorphically through D if and only if the degree of F+h is nonnegative for every holomorphic function h on D such that F+h is bounded away from zero near bD.
Let D be a bounded domain in the complex plane whose boundary consists of m pairwise disjoint simple closed curves where m is greater than one. Let A(bD) be the algebra of all continuous functions on bD which extend holomorphically through D. We show that a continuous function f on bD belongs to A(bD) if for each g in A(bD) the harmonic extension of Re(fg) to D has a single valued conjugate.
The paper gives the following characterization of the disc algebra in terms of the argument principle: A continuous function f on the unit circle T extends holomorphically through the unit disc if and only if for each polynomial P such that f+P has no zero on T the change of argument of f+P around T is nonnegative.
Let D be a bounded domain in the complex plane whose boundary consists of finitely many pairwise disjoint simple closed curves. Give bD the standard orientation and let A(D) be the algebra of all continuous functions on the closure of D which are holomorphic on D. In the paper we prove that a continuous function f on bD extends to a function in A(D) if and only if for each g in A(D) such that f+g has no zero on bD the change of argument of f+g along bD is nonnegative.
Let B be the open unit ball in C^2 and let a, b be two points in B. It is known that for every positive integer k there is a function f in C^k(bB) which extends holomorphically into B along any complex line passing through either a or b yet f does not extend holomorphically through B. In the paper we show that there is no such function in C^\infty (bB). Moreover, we obtain a fairly complete description of pairs of points a, b in C^2 such that if a function f in C^\infty(bB) extends holomorphically into B along each complex line passing through either a or b that meets B, then f extends holomor…
Let M be a smooth generic submanifold of C^n. Tumanov showed that the direction of CR extendability parallel propagates with respect to a certain differential geometric partial connection in a quotient bundle of the normal bundle to M. M is said to be globally minimal at a point z in M if the CR orbit of z contains a neighborhood of z in M. It is shown that the vector space generated by the directions of CR-extendability of CR functions on M is preserved by the induced composed flow between two points in the same CR orbit. As an application, the main result of this paper, conjectured by J.-M. …
Let D be a bounded domain in the complex plane whose boundary bD consists of finitely many pairwise disjoint real analytic simple closed curves. Let f be an integrable function on bD. In the paper we show how to compute the candidates for poles of a meromorphic extension of f through D and thus reduce the question of meromorphic extendibility to the question of holomorphic extendibility. Let A(D) be the algebra of all continuous functions on the closure of D which are holomorphic on D. For continuous functions f on bD we obtain a characterization of meromorphic extendibility in terms of the ar…
Since the nonlinear integral transforms $J_α[f](z) = \int_{0}^{z}(f'(u))^α du$ and $I_α[f](z) =\int_0^z (f(u)/u)^α du$ with a complex number $α$ have been introduced, a great number of studies were dedicated to deriving sufficient conditions for univalence on the unit disk. On the other hand, little is known about the conditions that $J_α[f]$ or $I_α[f]$ produces a holomorphic univalent function in the unit disk which extends to a quasiconformal map on the complex plane. In this paper we discuss quasiconformal extendibility of the integral transforms $J_α[f]$ and $I_α[f]$ for holomorphic funct…
Let D be the open unit disc in C. The paper deals with the following conjecture: If f is a continuous function on bD such that the change of argument of Pf+1 around bD is nonnegative for every polynomial P such that Pf+1 has no zero on bD then f extends holomorphically through D. We prove a related result on meromorphic extendibility for smooth functions with finitely many zeros of finite order, which, in particular, implies that the conjecture holds for real analytic functions.
In $\C^2=\R^2+i\R^2$ with coordinates $z=(z_1,z_2), z=x+iy$, we consider a function $f$ continuous on a domain $Ω$ of $\R^2$ separately real analytic in $x_1$ and CR extendible to $y_2$ (resp. CR extendible to $y_2>0$). This means that $f(\cdot,x_2)$ extends holomorphically for $|y_1|<ε_{x_2}$ and $f(x_1,\cdot)$ for $| y_2|<ε$ (resp. $0\leq y_2<ε$ continuous up to $y_2=0$) with $ε$ independent of $x_1$. We prove in Theorem 3.4 that $f$ is then real analytic (resp. in Theorem 3.5 that it extends holomorphically to a "wedge" $W= Ω+iΓ_ε$ where $Γ_ε$ is an open cone trumcated by $|y|<ε$ and contai…
We study the holomorphic extendibility of $\text{Op}(p)u$, when $p$ is an analytic symbol, and explicit information is available on the domains of holomorphic extendibility of both $p$ and $u$. By a contour deformation argument, we obtain a precise local estimate of the domain of holomorphy of $\text{Op}(p)u$ in terms of the information on $p$ and $u$.
We give upper bounds of the numbers of holomorphic sections of Veech holomorphic families of Riemann surfaces. The numbers depend only on the topological types of base Riemann surfaces and fibers. We also show a relation between types of Veech groups and moduli of cylinder decompositions of flat surfaces.
Let $S$ be a closed Riemann surface of genus $g(\geqq 2)$ and set $\dot{S}=S \setminus \{\hat{z}_0 \}$. Then we have the composed map $φ\circ r$ of a map $r: T(S) \times U \rightarrow F(S)$ and the Bers isomorphism $φ: F(S) \rightarrow T(\dot{S})$, where $F(S)$ is the Bers fiber space of $S$, $T(X)$ is the Teichmüller space of $X$ and $U$ is the upper half-plane. The purpose of this paper is to show the map $φ\circ r:T(S)\times U \rightarrow T(\dot{S})$. has a continuous extension to some subset of the boundary $T(S) \times \partial U$.
We prove that the space of dominant/non-constant holomorphic mappings from a product of hyperbolic Riemann surfaces of finite type into certain hyperbolic manifolds with universal cover a bounded domain is a finite set.
We establish a defect relation of holomorphic curves from a general open Riemann surface into a normal complex projective variety, with Zariski-dense image intersecting effective Cartier divisors.
Let $\D$ be the unit disk. Kutzschebauch and Studer \cite{KS} recently proved that, for each continuous map $A:\overline D\to \mathrm{SL}(2,\C)$, which is holomorphic in $\D$, there exist continuous maps $E,F:\overline \D\to \mathfrak{sl}(2,\C)$, which are holomorphic in $\D$, such that $A=e^Ee^F$. Also they asked if this extends to arbitrary compact bordered Riemann surfaces. We prove that this is possible.
Let $X$ be an open Riemann surface. We prove an Oka property on the approximation and interpolation of continuous maps $X \to (\mathbb{C}^*)^2$ by proper holomorphic embeddings, provided that we permit a smooth deformation of the complex structure on $X$ outside a certain set. This generalises and strengthens a recent result of Alarcon and Lopez. We also give a Forstneric-Wold theorem for proper holomorphic embeddings (with respect to the given complex structure) of certain open Riemann surfaces into $(\mathbb{C}^*)^2$.
In our previous work, for a given Riemann surface $Y_0$ with marked handle, we investigated geometric properties of the set of marked once-holed tori $X$ allowing holomorphic mappings of $X$ into $Y_0$. It turned out that it is a closed domain with Lipschitz boundary. In the present paper we show that the boundary is never smooth. Also, we evaluate the critical extremal length for the existence of holomorphic mappings in terms of hyperbolic lengths.
We generalize the representation formula from slice-domains of regularity to general Riemann slice-domains. This result allows us to extend the $*$-product of slice regular functions on axially symmetric domains to certain Riemann slice-domains by introducing holomorphic stem systems and tensor holomorphic functions. In particular, we construct a power series expansions of slice regular functions on certain Riemann slice-domains, which implies a relation between stem holomorphic, tensor holomorphic and slice regular functions.
The goal of this note is to present the potential relationships between certain Monge-Ampère integrals appearing in holomorphic Morse inequalities, and asymptotic cohomology estimates for tensor powers of line bundles, as recently introduced by algebraic geometers. The expected most general statements are still conjectural and owe a debt to Riemann's pioneering work, which led to the concept of Hilbert polynomials and to the Hirzebruch-Riemann-Roch formula during the XX-th century.
Let $Σ$ be an open Riemann surface and $Hol (Σ)$ be the Lie algebra of holomorphic vector fields on $Σ.$ We fix a projective structure (i.e. a local $SL_2(C)-$structure) on $Σ.$ We calculate the first group of cohomology of $Hol(Σ)$ with coefficients in the space of linear holomorphic operators acting on tensor densities, vanishing on the Lie algebra $SL_2 (C).$ The result is independant on the choice of the projective structure. We give explicit formulae of 1-cocycles generating this cohomology group.
We study monodromy of holomorphic motions and show the equivalence of triviality of monodromy of holomorphic motions and extensions of holomorphic motions to continuous motions of the Riemann sphere. We also study liftings of holomorphic maps into certain Teichmüller spaces. We use this "lifting property" to prove that, under the condition of trivial monodromy, any holomorphic motion of a closed set in the Riemann sphere, over a hyperbolic Riemann surface, can be extended to a holomorphic motion of the sphere, over the same parameter space. We conclude that this extension can be done in a conf…
We study two conditional expectations: the expected density of critical points of Gaussian random holomorphic sections of powers of a positive holomorphic line bundle over Riemann surfaces given that the random sections vanish at a point and the expected density of zeros given that the random sections has a fixed critical point. The main result is that these two rescaling conditional expectations have universal limits as the power of the line bundle tends to infinity. We will see that the short distance behavior between critical points and the conditioning zero is neutral while there is a repu…
Let $X$ be a connected open Riemann surface. Let $Y$ be an Oka domain in the smooth locus of an analytic subvariety of $\mathbb C^n$, $n\geq 1$, such that the convex hull of $Y$ is all of $\mathbb C^n$. Let $\mathscr O_*(X, Y)$ be the space of nondegenerate holomorphic maps $X\to Y$. Take a holomorphic $1$-form $θ$ on $X$, not identically zero, and let $π:\mathscr O_*(X,Y) \to H^1(X,\mathbb C^n)$ send a map $g$ to the cohomology class of $gθ$. Our main theorem states that $π$ is a Serre fibration. This result subsumes the 1971 theorem of Kusunoki and Sainouchi that both the periods and the div…
We investigate the existence of non-trivial holomorphic and meromorphic solutions of Fermat functional equations over an open Riemann surface $S$. When $S$ is hyperbolic, we prove that any $k$-term Fermat functional equation always exists non-trivial holomorphic and meromorphic solution. When $S$ is a general open Riemann surface, we prove that every non-trivial holomorphic or meromorphic solution satisfies a growth condition, provided that the power exponents of the equations are bigger than some certain positive integers.
Given a holomorphic vector bundle $E$ over a compact Riemann surface $M$, and an open set $D$ in $M$, we prove that the Bergman space of holomorphic sections of the restriction of $E$ to $D$ must either coincide with the space of global holomorphic sections of $E$, or be infinite dimensional. Moreover, we characterize the latter entirely in terms of potential-theoretic properties of $D$.
Consider a compact surface $\mathscr{R}$ with distinguished points $z_1,\ldots,z_n$ and conformal maps $f_k$ from the unit disk into non-overlapping quasidisks on $\mathscr{R}$ taking $0$ to $z_k$. Let $Σ$ be the Riemann surface obtained by removing the closures of the images of $f_k$ from $\mathscr{R}$. We define forms which are meromorphic on $\mathscr{R}$ with poles only at $z_1,\ldots,z_n$, which we call Faber-Tietz forms. These are analogous to Faber polynomials in the sphere. We show that any $L^2$ holomorphic one-form on $Σ$ is uniquely expressible as a series of Faber-Tietz forms. This…
Given a generic totally real torus unknotted in the unit sphere of the complex plane, we prove the following alternative : either there exists a filling of the torus by holomorphic discs and the torus is rationally convex, or its rational hull contains a holomorphic annulus.
We study the existence of proper holomorphic embeddings of bordered Riemann surfaces into the complex plane C^2. Denote by M(R) the moduli space consisting of all equivalence classes of complex structures J on a given smooth oriented bordered surface R. We introduce a class F(R) in M(R)with the following properties: (1) F(R) is nonempty and open (in a natural topology on M(R)); (2) The interior of any Riemann surface (R,J) in the class F(R) admits a proper holomorphic embedding in C^2; (3) If R is a finitely connected planar domain then F(R)=M(R); (4) Each hyperelliptic bordered Riemann surfac…
We gave an alternative short proof on the finite generation of holomorphic functions with polynomial growth on Riemann surfaces with nonnegative curvature. The first proof was due to Li and Tam.
This paper re-develops the Nevanlinna theory for meromorphic functions on $\mathbb C$ in the viewpoint of holomorphic forms. According to our observation, Nevanlinna's functions can be formulated by a holomorphic form. Applying this thought to Riemann surfaces, one then extends the definition of Nevanlinna's functions using a holomorphic form $\mathscr S$. With the new settings, an analogue of Nevanlinna theory on \emph{weak $\mathscr S$-exhausted Riemann surfaces} is obtained, which is viewed as a generalization of the classical Nevanlinna theory on $\mathbb C$ and $\mathbb D.$
We study the value distribution of holomorphic curves from a general open Riemann surface into a smooth logarithmic pair $(X, D).$ By stochastic calculus, we first obtain a version of tautological inequality (proposed by McQuillan) and a logarithmic derivative lemma. Then, one uses them to establish a Second Main Theorem of Nevanlinna theory for pair $(X, D)$ under certain conditions. Finally, we apply the Second Main Theorem to study the holomorphic curves from a general open Riemann surface into certain special moduli spaces of polarized Abelian varieties intersecting boundary divisors.
We prove a result on the structure of finite proper holomorphic mappings between complex manifolds that are products of hyperbolic Riemann surfaces. While an important special case of our result follows from the ideas developed by Remmert and Stein, the proof of the full result relies on the interplay of the latter ideas and a finiteness theorem for Riemann surfaces.
We prove that given an open Riemann surface $N,$ there exists an open domain $M\subset N$ homeomorphic to $N$ which properly holomorphically embeds in $\mathbb{C}^2.$ Furthermore, $M$ can be chosen with hyperbolic conformal type. In particular, any open orientable surface admits a complex structure properly holomorphically embedding into $\mathbb{C}^2.$
In this paper, we construct holomorphic families of Riemann surfaces from Veech groups and characterize their sections by some points of corresponding flat surfaces. The construction gives us concrete solutions for some Diophantine equations over function fields. Moreover, we give upper bounds of the numbers of holomorphic sections of certain holomorphic families of Riemann surfaces.
We develop an isotopy principle for holomorphic motions. Our main result concerns the extendability of a holomorphic motion of a finite subset $E$ of a Riemann surface $Y$ parameterized by a point $t$ in a pointed hyperbolic surface $(X, t_{0})$. If a holomorphic motion from $E$ to $E_{t}$ in $Y$ has a guiding quasiconformal isotopy, then there is a holomorphic extension to any new point $p$ in $Y-E$ that follows the guiding isotopy. The proof gives a canonical way to replace a quasiconformal motion of the $(n+1)^{th}$ point by a holomorphic motion while leaving unchanged the given holomorphic…
We prove that if $X = X_1 \times \dots \times X_n$ is a product of hyperbolic Riemann surfaces of finite type and $Y = Ω/Γ$ is a complex manifold, where $Ω$ is a bounded simply-connected domain in $\mathbb{C}^m$, then the space of dominant holomorphic mappings from $X$ to $Y$ is a finite set. As corollaries, we obtain the finiteness of the space of dominant holomorphic mappings into products and symmetric products of hyperbolic Riemann surfaces.
We define a set of holomorphic functions in terms of the Hauptmodul of a quotient Riemann surface and prove that these functions are holomorphic on the upper half-plane. It is also shown that these functions are automorphic forms of weight k with respect to a Fuchsian group.
It is shown that any open Riemann surface can be immersed in any Stein manifold with (volume) density property and of dimension at least 2, if the manifold possesses an exhaustion with holomorphically convex compacts such that their complement is connected. The immersion can be made into an embedding if the dimension is at least 3. As an application, it is shown that Stein manifolds with (volume) density property and of dimension at least 3, are characterized among all other complex manifolds by their semigroup of holomorphic endomorphisms.
Let G/K be a non-compact, rank-one, Riemannian symmetric space and let G^C be the universal complexification of G. We prove that a holomorphically separable, G-equivariant Riemann domain over G^C / K^C is necessarily univalent, provided that G is not a covering of SL(2, R). As a consequence of the above statement one obtains a univalence result for holomorphically separable, G x K -equivariant Riemann domains over G^C. Here G x K acts on G^C by left and right translations. The proof of such results involves a detailed study of the G-invariant complex geometry of the quotient G^C / K^C, includi…
We generalize the H. Cartan's theory of holomorphic curves for a general open Riemann surface. Besides, a vanishing theorem for jet differentials and a Bloch's theorem for Riemann surfaces are obtained.
We study the asymptotic behavior of the discrete analogue of the holomorphic map $z^a$. The analysis is based on the use of the Riemann-Hilbert approach. Specifically, using the Deift-Zhou nonlinear steepest descent method we prove the asymptotic formulae which was conjectured in 2000 by the first co-author and S.I.~Agafonov.
Let $Σ$ be a Riemann surface of genus $g$ bordered by $n$ curves homeomorphic to the circle $\mathbb{S}^1$, and assume that $2g+2-n>0$. For such bordered Riemann surfaces, the authors have previously defined a Teichmüller space which is a Hilbert manifold and which is holomorphically included in the standard Teichmüller space. Based on this, we present alternate models of the aforementioned Teichmüller space and show in particular that it is locally modelled on a Hilbert space of $L^2$ Beltrami differentials, which are holomorphic up to a power of the hyperbolic metric, and has a convergent We…
Classic complex analysis is built on structural function $K=1$ only associated with Cauchy-Riemann equations, subsequently various generalizations of Cauchy-Riemann equations start to break this situation. The goal of this article is to show that only structural function $K=Const$ such that Liouville's theorem is held, otherwise, it's not valid any more on complex domain based on structural holomorphic, the correction should be $w=Φ{{e}^{-K}}$, where $Φ=Const$. Those theories in complex analysis which keep constant are unable to be held as constant in the framework of structural holomorphic. S…
We enlarge the class of open Riemann surfaces known to be holomorphically embeddable into the plane by allowing them to have additional isolated punctures compared to the known embedding results.
Moduli spaces of holomorphic disks in a complex manifold Z, with boundaries constrained to lie in a maximal totally real submanifold P, have recently been found to underlie a number of geometrically rich twistor correspondences. The purpose of this paper is to develop a general Fredholm regularity criterion for holomorphic curves-with-boundary, and then show how this applies, in particular, to various moduli problems of twistor-theoretic interest.
In this article we obtain large deviation estimates for zeros of random holomorphic sections on punctured Riemann surfaces. These estimates are then employed to yield estimates for the respective hole probabilities. A particular case of relevance that is covered by our setting is that of cusp forms on arithmetic surfaces. Most of the results we obtain also allow for reasonably general probability distributions on holomorphic sections, which shows the universal character of these estimates. Finally, we also extend our results to the case of certain higher dimensional complete Hermitian manifold…
We provide a description of the interpolating and sampling sequences on a space of holomorphic functions with a uniform growth restriction defined on finite Riemann surfaces.
We show that the structure of proper holomorphic maps between the $n$-fold symmetric products, $n\geq 2$, of a pair of non-compact Riemann surfaces $X$ and $Y$, provided these are reasonably nice, is very rigid. Specifically, any such map is determined by a proper holomorphic map of $X$ onto $Y$. This extends existing results concerning bounded planar domains, and is a non-compact analogue of a phenomenon observed in symmetric products of compact Riemann surfaces. Along the way, we also provide a condition for the complete hyperbolicity of all $n$-fold symmetric products of a non-compact Riema…
We study the dynamics of holomorphic correspondences $f$ on a compact Riemann surface $X$ in the case, so far not well understood, where $f$ and $f^{-1}$ have the same topological degree. Under a mild and necessary condition that we call non weak modularity, $f$ admits two canonical probability measures $μ^+$ and $μ^-$ which are invariant by $f^*$ and $f_*$ respectively. If the critical values of $f$ (resp. $f^{-1}$) are not periodic, the backward (resp. forward) orbit of any point $a \in X$ equidistributes towards $μ^+$ (resp. $μ^-$), uniformly in $a$ and exponentially fast.
