We prove that if G is a compact connected Lie group and X is a compact connected hyper-Kahler manifold, then the L^2 metric on (the smooth locus of) the moduli space of flat G-bundles on X is a hyper-Kahler metric.
From a view point of the moment map, we shall introduce the notion of Einstein-Hermitian generalized connections over a generalized Kähler manifold of symplectic type. We show that moduli spaces of Einstein-Hermitian generalized connections arise as the Kähler quotients. The deformation complex of Einstein-Hermitian generalized connections is an elliptic complex and it turns out that the smooth part of the moduli space is a finite dimensional Kähler manifold. The canonical line bundle over a generalized Kähler manifold of symplectic type has the canonical generalized connection and its curvatu…
We shall construct a moduli space of pairs of Kähler-Einstein structures and special lagrangians and obtain smoothness of the moduli space of these pairs. Further we show that the moduli space of these pairs is locally embedded in a certain relative cohomology group.
We construct a canonical Hausdorff complex analytic moduli space of Fano manifolds with Kähler-Ricci solitons. This naturally enlarges the moduli space of Fano manifolds with Kähler-Einstein metrics, which was constructed by Odaka and Li-Wang-Xu. We discover a moment map picture for Kähler-Ricci solitons, and give complex analytic charts on the topological space consisting of Kähler-Ricci solitons, by studying differential geometric aspects of this infinite dimensional moment map. Some stacky words and arguments on Gromov-Hausdorff convergence help to glue them together in the holomorphic mann…
We prove that Kahler-Einstein Fano manifolds with finite automorphism groups form Hausdorff moduli algebraic space with only quotient singularities. We also discuss the limits as Q-Fano varieties which should be put on the boundary of its canonical compactification.
In this paper we first show that on projective manifolds (M, ω), there are holomorphic determinant bundles (in the sense of Knusden-Mumford used by Bismut, Gillet, Soule) which play the role of the geometric quantum bundle, namely one for each input data of a Hermitian holomorphic line bundle L of non-trivial Chern class on a compact Kahler manifold Z (with Todd genus non-zero) and a choice of a geometric quantization of (M, ω). Next we further study the generalization of the vortex equations on Kahler 4-manifold which has been studied earlier by Bradlow. We show that when the Kahler 4-manifol…
We exhibit the first non-trivial concrete examples of Gromov-Hausdorff compactifications of moduli spaces of Kähler-Einstein Fano manifolds in all complex dimensions bigger than two (Fano K-moduli spaces). We also discuss potential applications to explicit study of moduli spaces of K-stable Fano manifolds with large anti-canonical volume. Our arguments are based on recent progress about the geometry of metric tangent cones and on related ideas about the algebro-geometric study of singularities of K-stable Fano varieties.
We prove that the Gromov-Hausdorff compactification of the moduli space of Kahler-Einstein Del Pezzo surfaces in each degree agrees with certain algebro-geometric compactification. In particular, this recovers Tian's theorem on the existence of Kahler-Einstein metrics on smooth Del Pezzo surfaces and classifies the degenerations of such metrics. The proof is based on a combination of both algebraic and differential geometric techniques.
In this article, we give a survey of our construction of a local moduli space of scalar-flat Kähler ALE metrics in complex dimension $2$. We also prove an explicit formula for the dimension of this moduli space on a scalar-flat Kähler ALE surface which deforms to the minimal resolution of $\mathbb{C}^2/Γ$, where $Γ$ is a finite subgroup of ${\rm{U}}(2)$ without complex reflections, in terms of the embedding dimension of the singularity.
We study the natural Kähler metrics on moduli spaces of stable oriented pairs in a very general framework, and we prove a universal formula expressing the Kähler class of such a moduli space in terms of characteristic classes of the universal bundle. We use these results to compute explicitly the volumina of certain Quot spaces.
In this note, we prove that there is a canonical continuous Hermitian metric on the CM line bundle over the proper moduli space $\bar{\mathcal{M}}$ of smoothable Kahler-Einstein Fano varieties. The curvature of this metric is the Weil-Petersson current, which exists as a positive (1,1)-current on $\bar{\mathcal{M}}$ and extends the canonical Weil-Petersson current on the moduli space parametrizing smooth Kahler-Einstein Fano manifolds $\mathcal{M}$. As a consequence, we show that the CM line bundle is nef and big on $\bar{\mathcal{M}}$ and its restriction on $\mathcal{M}$ is ample.
We survey recent results on the existence of Kähler-Einstein metrics on certain smoothable Fano varieties, focusing on the importance of such metrics in the construction of compact algebraic moduli spaces of K-polystable Fano varieties. Moreover, we give some applications and we discuss some natural problems which deserve future investigations.
We construct a Petersson-Weil type Kähler form on the moduli spaces of Higgs bundles over a compact Kähler manifold. A fiber integral formula for this form is proved, from which it follows that the Petersson-Weil form is the curvature of a certain determinant line bundle, equipped with a Quillen metric, on the moduli space of Higgs bundles over a projective manifold. The curvature of the Petersson-Weil Kähler form is computed. We also show that, under certain assumptions, a moduli space of Higgs bundles supports of natural hyper-Kähler structure.
We prove that one can obtain natural bundles of Lie algebras on rank two s-Kähler manifolds, whose fibres are isomorphic to so(s+1,s+1), su(s+1,s+1) and sl(2s + 2,\R). In the most rigid case (which includes complex tori and abelian varieties) these bundles have natural flat connections, whose flat global sections act naturally on cohomology. We also present several natural examples of manifolds which can be equipped with an s-Kähler structure with various levels of rigidity: complex tori and abelian varieties, cotangent bundles of smooth manifolds and moduli of pointed elliptic curves.
In this paper, we investigate the geometry of the orbit space of the closure of the subscheme parametrizing smooth Fano Kähler-Einstein manifolds inside an appropriate Hilbert scheme. In particular, we prove that being K-semistable is a Zariski open condition and establish the uniqueness for the Gromov-Hausdorff limit for a punctured flat family of Fano Kähler-Einstein manifolds. Based on these, we construct a proper scheme parameterizing the S-equivalent classes of $\QQ$-Gorenstein smoothable, K-semistable Fano varieties, and verify various necessary properties to guarantee that it is a good …
The twistor space of the moduli space of solutions of Hitchin's self-duality equations can be identified with the Deligne-Hitchin moduli space of $λ$-connections. We use real projective structures on Riemann surfaces to prove the existence of new components of real holomorphic sections of the Deligne-Hitchin moduli space. Applying the twistorial construction we show the existence of new hyper-Kähler manifolds associated to any compact Riemann surface of genus $g\geq2$. These hyper-Kähler manifolds can be considered as moduli spaces of (certain) singular solutions of the self-duality equations.
We classify quadruples $(M,g,m,τ)$ in which $(M,g)$ is a compact Kähler manifold of complex dimension $m>2$ with a nonconstant function $τ$ on $M$ such that the conformally related metric $g/τ^2$, defined wherever $τ\ne 0$, is Einstein. It turns out that $M$ then is the total space of a holomorphic $CP^1$ bundle over a compact Kähler-Einstein manifold $(N,h)$. The quadruples in question constitute four disjoint families: one, well-known, with Kähler metrics $g$ that are locally reducible; a second, discovered by Bérard Bergery (1982), and having $τ\ne 0$ everywhere; a third one, related to the…
The moduli space NK of infinitesimal deformations of a nearly Kähler structure on a compact 6-dimensional manifold is described by a certain eigenspace of the Laplace operator acting on co-closed primitive (1,1) forms. Using the Hermitian Laplace operator and some representation theory, we compute the space NK on all 6-dimensional homogeneous nearly Kähler manifolds. It turns out that the nearly Kähler structure is rigid except for the flag manifold F(1,2)=SU_3/T^2, which carries an 8-dimensional moduli space of infinitesimal nearly Kähler deformations, modeled on the Lie algebra su_3 of the i…
Let $\mathcal{M}$ be a moduli space of polystable rank 2-bundles bundles with fixed determinant (a moduli space of $\mathrm{PU}(2)$-instantons) on a Gauduchon surface with $p_g=0$ and $b_1=1$. We study the holomorphic structure of $\mathcal{M}$ around a circle $\mathcal{T}$ of regular reductions. Our model space is a "blowup flip passage", which is a manifold with boundary whose boundary is a projective fibration, and whose interior comes with a natural complex structure. We prove that a neighborhood of the boundary of the blowup $\hat{\mathcal{M}}_{\mathcal{T}}$ of $\mathcal{M}$ at $\mathcal{…
Inspired by Wilkin's work [23, 24] on Morse theory for the moduli space of Higgs bundles, we study the moduli space of gauged holomorphic maps by a heat flow approach in the spirit of Atiyah and Bott in a series of papers. In this paper, applying the method of Hong [9], we establish the global existence of smooth solutions of the gradient ow equations of the vortex functional over a compact Kahler manifold.
It is well-known that every 6-dimensional strictly nearly Kähler manifold $(M,g,J)$ is Einstein with positive scalar curvature $scal>0$. Moreover, one can show that the space $E$ of co-closed primitive (1,1)-forms on $M$ is stable under the Laplace operator $Δ$. Let $E(a)$ denote the $a$-eigenspace of the restriction of $Δ$ to $E$. If $M$ is compact, we prove that the moduli space of infinitesimal Einstein deformations of the nearly Kähler metric $g$ is naturally isomorphic to the direct sum $E(scal/15)\oplus E(scal/5)\oplus E(2scal/5)$. It is known that the last summand is itself isomorphic w…
We prove the equivalences of several classical complete metrics on the Teichmüller and the moduli spaces of Riemann surfaces. We use as bridge two new Kähler metrics, the Ricci metric and the perturbed Ricci metric and prove that the perturbed Ricci metric is a complete Kähler metric with bounded negative holomorphic sectional curvature and bounded bisectional and Ricci curvature. As consequences we prove that these two new metrics are equivalent to several famous classical metrics, which inlcude the Teichmüller metric, therefore the Kabayashi metric, the Kähler-Einstein metric and the McMulle…
This paper is about geometric quantization of the Hitchin system. We quantize a Kahler form on the Hitchin moduli space (which is half the first Kahler form defined by Hitchin) by considering the Quillen bundle as the prequantum line bundle and modifying the Quillen metric using the Higgs field so that the curvature is proportional to the Kahler form. We show that this Kahler form is integral and the Quillen bundle descends as a prequantum line bundle on the moduli space. It is holomorphic and hence one can take holomorphic square integrable sections as the Hilbert space of quantization of the…
We study hyperkahler cones and their corresponding quaternion-Kahler spaces. We present a classification of 4(n-1)-dimensional quaternion-Kahler spaces with n abelian quaternionic isometries, based on dualizing superconformal tensor multiplets. These manifolds characterize the geometry of the hypermultiplet sector of perturbative moduli spaces of type-II strings compactified on a Calabi-Yau manifold. As an example of our construction, we study the universal hypermultiplet in detail, and give three inequivalent tensor multiplet descriptions. We also comment on the construction of quaternion-Kah…
Following an earlier paper on the differential-geometric structure of the moduli space of special Lagrangian submanifolds in a Calabi-Yau manifold, we follow an analogous approach for compact complex Lagrangian submanifolds of a (Kählerian) complex symplectic manifold. The natural geometric structure on the moduli space is a special Kähler metric, but we offer a different point of view on the local differential geometry of these, based on the structure of a submanifold of $V\times V$ (where $V$ is a symplectic vector space) which is Lagrangian with respect to two constant symplectic forms. As …
We investigate a new property for compact Kahler manifolds. Let X be a Kahler manifold of dimension n and let H^{1,1} denote the (1,1) part of its real second cohomology. On this space, we have an degree n form given by cup product. Let K denote the open cone of Kahler classes in H^{1,1}, and K_1 the level set consisting of classes in K on which the n-form takes value one. This is a Riemannian manifold, with tangent space at a given point being the primitive classes of type (1,1), and metric defined via the Hodge Index Theorem. In the Calabi-Yau case (and probably more generally), we conjectur…
We consider the self-dual vortex equations on a positive line bundle L --> M over a compact Kaehler manifold of arbitrary dimension. When M is simply connected, the moduli space of vortex solutions is a projective space. When M is an abelian variety, the moduli space is the projectivization of the Fourier-Mukai transform of L. We extend this description of the moduli space to the abelian GLSM, i.e. to vortex equations with a torus gauge group acting linearly on a complex vector space. After establishing the Hitchin-Kobayashi correspondence appropriate for the general abelian GLSM, we give expl…
We prove a Kuranishi-type theorem for deformations of complex structures on ALE Kähler surfaces. This is used to prove that for any scalar-flat Kähler ALE surface, all small deformations of complex structure also admit scalar-flat Kähler ALE metrics. A local moduli space of scalar-flat Kähler ALE metrics is then constructed, which is shown to be universal up to small diffeomorphisms (that is, diffeomorphisms which are close to the identity in a suitable sense). A formula for the dimension of the local moduli space is proved in the case of a scalar-flat Kähler ALE surface which deforms to a min…
We study Lie algebras admitting para-Kähler and hyper-para-Kähler structures. We give new characterizations of these Lie algebras and we develop many methods to build large classes of examples. Bai considered para-Kähler Lie algebras as left symmetric bialgebras. We reconsider this point of view and improve it in order to obtain some new results. The study of para-Kähler and hyper-para-Kähler is intimately linked to the study of left symmetric algebras and, in particular, those admitting invariant symplectic forms. In this paper, we give many new classes of left symmetric algebras and a comple…
Let $g$ be a hyper-Hermitian metric on a simply connected hypercomplex four-manifold $M$. We show that when the isometry group $I(M,g)$ contains a subgroup acting simply transitively on $M$ by hypercomplex isometries then the metric $g$ is conformal to a hyper-Kähler metric. We describe explicitely the corresponding hyper-Kähler metrics and it follows that, in four dimensions, these are the only hyper-Kähler metrics containing a homogeneous metric in its conformal class.
The moduli space of solutions to the vortex equations on a Riemann surface are well known to have a symplectic (in fact Kähler) structure. We show this symplectic structure explictly and proceed to show a family of symplectic (in fact, Kähler) structures $Ω_{Ψ_0}$ on the moduli space, parametrised by $Ψ_0$, a section of a line bundle on the Riemann surface. Next we show that corresponding to these there is a family of prequantum line bundles ${\mathcal P}_{Ψ_0} $on the moduli space whose curvature is proportional to the symplectic forms $Ω_{Ψ_0}$.
We show that any compact quaternionic contact (qc) hypersurfaces in a hyper-Kähler manifold which is not totally umbilical has an induced qc structure, locally qc homothetic to the standard 3-Sasakian sphere. We also show that any nowhere umbilical qc hypersurface in a hyper-Kähler manifold is endowed with an involutive 7-dimensional distribution whose integral leafs are locally qc-conformal to the standard 3-Sasakian sphere.
We describe explicitly all quaternionic contact hypersurfaces (qc-hypersurfaces) in the flat quaternion space $\Hnn$ and the quaternion projective space. We show that up to a quaternionic affine transformation a qc-hypersurface in $\Hnn$ is contained in one of the three qc-hyperquadrics in $\Hnn$. Moreover, we show that an embedded qc-hypersurface in a hyper-Kähler manifold is qc-conformal to a qc-Einstein space and the Riemannian curvature tensor of the ambient hyper-Kähler metric is degenerate along the hypersurface.
Motivated by the classical statements of Mirror Symmetry, we study certain Kahler metrics on the complexified Kahler cone of a Calabi-Yau threefold, conjecturally corresponding to approximations to the Weil-Petersson metric near large complex structure limit for the mirror. In particular, the naturally defined Riemannian metric (defined via cup-product) on a level set of the Kahler cone is seen to be analogous to a slice of the Weil-Petersson metric near large complex limit. This enables us to give counterexamples to a conjecture of Ooguri and Vafa that the Weil-Petersson metric has non-positi…
Let $\mathcal{M}^{\mathrm{st}}$ ($\mathcal{M}^{\mathrm{pst}}$) be a moduli space of stable (polystable) bundles with fixed determinant on a complex surface with $b_1=1$, $p_g=0$, and let $Z\subset \mathcal{M}^{\mathrm{st}}$ be a pure $k$-dimensional analytic set. We prove a general formula for the homological boundary $δ[Z]^{BM}\in H_{2k-1}^{BM}(\partial\hat{\mathcal M}^{\mathrm{pst}},\mathbb{Z})$ of the Borel-Moore fundamental class of $Z$ in the boundary of the blow up moduli space $\hat {\mathcal M}^{\mathrm{pst}}$. The proof is based on the holomorphic model theorem (proved in a previous a…
Given a quaternionic manifold $M$ with a certain $\mathrm{U}(1)$-symmetry, we construct a hypercomplex manifold $M'$ of the same dimension. This construction generalizes the quaternionic Kähler/hyper-Kähler-correspondence. As an example of this construction, we obtain a compact homogeneous hypercomplex manifold which does not admit any hyper-Kähler structure. Therefore our construction is a proper generalization of the quaternionic Kähler/hyper-Kähler-correspondence.
We define Hitchin's moduli space for a principal bundle $P$, whose structure group is a compact semisimple Lie group $K$, over a compact non-orientable Riemannian manifold $M$. We use the Donaldson-Corlette correspondence, which identifies Hitchin's moduli space with the moduli space of flat $K^\mathbb{C}$-connections, which remains valid when M is non-orientable. This enables us to study Hitchin's moduli space both by gauge theoretical methods and algebraically by using representation varieties. If the orientable double cover $\tilde{M}$ of $M$ is a Kähler manifold with odd complex dimension …
The holonomy algebra of a pseudo-hyper-Kählerian manifold of signature $(4,4n+4)$ is a subalgebra of $\sp(1,n+1)$. Possible holonomy algebras of these manifolds are classified. Using this, a new proof of the classification of simply connected pseudo-hyper-Kählerian symmetric spaces of index 4 is obtained.
We construct metrics with the holonomy group SU(2) on the tangent bundles of weighted complex projective lines and give a geometric description of the moduli space of special Kahler metrics on a K3-surface in the neighborhood of the flat orbifold $T^4/Z_3$.
Heterotic vacua of string theory are realised, at large radius, by a compact threefold with vanishing first Chern class together with a choice of stable holomorphic vector bundle. These form a wide class of potentially realistic four-dimensional vacua of string theory. Despite all their phenomenological promise, there is little understanding of the metric on the moduli space of these. What is sought is the analogue of special geometry for these vacua. The metric on the moduli space is important in phenomenology as it normalises D-terms and Yukawa couplings. It is also of interest in mathematic…
In this Thesis, I investigate how Fano manifolds equipped with a Kahler-Einstein metric can degenerate as metric spaces (in the Gromov-Hausdorff topology) and some of the relations of this question with Algebraic Geometry, in particular in the direction of the study of moduli spaces and their compactifications.
Given a Kähler manifold $M$ endowed with a Hamiltonian Killing vector field $Z$, we construct a conical Kähler manifold $\hat{M}$ such that $M$ is recovered as a Kähler quotient of $\hat{M}$. Similarly, given a hyper-Kähler manifold $(M,g,J_1,J_2,J_3)$ endowed with a Killing vector field $Z$, Hamiltonian with respect to the Kähler form of $J_1$ and satisfying $\mathcal{L}_ZJ_2= -2J_3$, we construct a hyper-Kähler cone $\hat{M}$ such that $M$ is a certain hyper-Kähler quotient of $\hat{M}$. In this way, we recover a theorem by Haydys. Our work is motivated by the problem of relating the supergr…
Our main result in this article is a compactness result which states that a noncollapsed sequence of asymptotically locally Euclidean (ALE) scalar-flat Kähler metrics on a minimal Kähler surface whose Kähler classes stay in a compact subset of the interior of the Kähler cone must have a convergent subsequence. As an application, we prove the existence of global moduli spaces of scalar-flat Kähler ALE metrics for several infinite families of Kähler ALE spaces.
Under the action of the c-map, special Kahler manifolds are mapped into a class of quaternion-Kahler spaces. We explicitly construct the corresponding Swann bundle or hyperkahler cone, and determine the hyperkahler potential in terms of the prepotential of the special Kahler geometry.
We identify the perverse filtration of a Lagrangian fibration with the monodromy weight filtration of a maximally unipotent degeneration of compact hyper-Kähler manifolds.
In this paper we apply the hyper-Kähler quotient construction to Lie groups with a left invariant hyper-Kähler structure under the action of a closed abelian subgroup by left multiplication. This is motivated by the fact that some known hyper-Kähler metrics can be recovered in this way by considering different Lie group structures on $\H^p \times \H^q$ ($\H$: the quaternions). We obtain new complete hyper-Kähler metrics on Euclidean spaces and give their local expressions.
For the twistor spaces of the Bochner-Kähler manifold $M = H^l \times P^n$, systems of holomorphic coordinates are constructed. As an application of them, an explicit description of the moduli space of relative deformations of fibers of $M$'s twistor space is given.
Let $\mathcal{K}(n, V)$ be the set of $n$-dimensional compact Kahler-Einstein manifolds $(X, g)$ satisfying $Ric(g)= - g$ with volume bounded above by $V$. We prove that after passing to a subsequence, any sequence $\{ (X_j, g_j)\}_{j=1}^\infty$ in $\mathcal{K}(n, V)$ converges, in the pointed Gromov-Hausdorff topology, to a finite union of complete Kahler-Einstein metric spaces without loss of volume. The convergence is smooth off a closed singular set of Hausdorff dimension no greater than $2n-4$, and the limiting metric space is biholomorphic to an $n$-dimensional semi-log canonical model w…
The moduli space metric and its Kahler potential for well-separated non-Abelian vortices are obtained in U(N) gauge theories with N Higgs fields in the fundamental representation.
We study relations between quaternionic Riemannian manifolds admitting different types of symmetries. We show that any hyperKahler manifold admitting hyperKahler potential and triholomorphic action of S^1 can be constructed from another hyperKahler manifold (of lower dimention) with an action of S^1 which fixes one complex structure and rotates the other two and vice versa. We also study corresponding quaternionic Kahler manifolds equipped with a quaternionic Kahler action of the circle. In particular we show that any positive quaternionic Kahler manifold with S^1 symmetry admits a Kahler metr…
