The moduli space NK of infinitesimal deformations of a nearly Kähler structure on a compact 6-dimensional manifold is described by a certain eigenspace of the Laplace operator acting on co-closed primitive (1,1) forms. Using the Hermitian Laplace operator and some representation theory, we compute the space NK on all 6-dimensional homogeneous nearly Kähler manifolds. It turns out that the nearly Kähler structure is rigid except for the flag manifold F(1,2)=SU_3/T^2, which carries an 8-dimensional moduli space of infinitesimal nearly Kähler deformations, modeled on the Lie algebra su_3 of the isometry group.
In this note we prove the following result: There is a positive constant $ε(n,Λ)$ such that if $M^n$ is a simply connected compact K$\ddot{a}$hler manifold with sectional curvature bounded from above by $Λ$, diameter bounded from above by 1, and with holomorphic bisectional curvature $H \geq -ε(n,Λ)$, then $M^n$ is diffeomorphic to the product $M_1\times ... \times M_k$, where each $M_i$ is either a complex projective space or an irreducible K$\ddot{a}$hler-Hermitian symmetric space of rank $\geq 2$. This resolves a conjecture of F. Fang under the additional upper bound restrictions on section…
We describe and construct here pseudo-Hermitian structures $θ$ without torsion (i.e. with transversal symmetry) whose Webster-Ricci curvature tensor is a constant multiple of the exterior differential $dθ$. We call these structures pseudo-Hermitian Einstein and our result states that they all can be derived locally from K{ä}hler-Einstein metrics. Moreover, we discuss the corresponding Fefferman metrics of the pseudo-Hermitian Einstein structures. These Fefferman metrics are never Einstein, but they are locally always conformally Einstein.
We study the classification of special almost hermitian manifolds in Gray and Hervella's type classes. We prove that the exterior derivatives of the symplectic form and the complex volume form contain all the information about the intrinsic torsion of the $\SUn(n)$-structure. Furthermore, we apply the obtained results to almost hyperhermitian geometry. Thus, we show that the exterior derivatives of the three K{ä}hler forms of an almost hyperhermitian manifold are sufficient to determine the three covariant derivatives of such forms, i.e., the three mentioned exterior derivatives determine the …
We study hypersurfaces in a nearly $\mathrm{G}_2$ manifold. We define various quantities associated to such a hypersurface using the $\mathrm{G}_2$ structure of the ambient manifold and prove several relationships between them. In particular, we give a necessary and sufficient condition for a hypersurface with an almost complex structure induced from the $\mathrm{G}_2$ structure of the ambient manifold, to be nearly K$\ddot{\text{a}}$hler. Then using the nearly $\mathrm{G}_2$ structure on the round sphere $S^7$, we prove that for a compact minimal hypersurface $M^6$ of constant scalar curvatur…
Let $(X,h)$ be a compact and irreducible Hermitian complex space of complex dimension $v>1$. In this paper we show that the Friedrichs extension of both the Laplace-Beltrami operator and the Hodge-Kodaira Laplacian acting on functions has discrete spectrum. Moreover we provide some estimates for the growth of the corresponding eigenvalues and we use these estimates to deduce that the associated heat operators are trace-class. Finally we give various applications to the Hodge-Dolbeault operator and to the Hodge-Kodaira Laplacian in the setting of Hermitian complex spaces of complex dimension $2…
Inspired by the work of Z. Lu and G. Tian \cite{lutian}, in this paper we address the problem of studying those \K\ manifolds satisfying the $Δ$-property, i.e. such that on a neighborhood of each of its points the $k$-th power of the \K Laplacian is a polynomial function of the complex Euclidean Laplacian, for all positive integer $k$ (see below for its definition). We prove two results: 1. if a \K\ manifold satisfies the $Δ$-property then its curvature tensor is parallel; 2. if an Hermitian symmetric space of classical type satisfies the $Δ$-property then it is a complex space form (namely it…
Let $X=G/H$ be a symmetric space for a real simple Lie group $G$, equipped with a $G$-invariant complex structure. Then, $X$ is a pseudo-Hermitian manifold, and in this geometric setting, higher Laplacians $L_m$ are defined for each positive integer $m$, which generalize the ordinary Laplace-Beltrami operator. We show that $L_1,L_3,\ldots, L_{2r-1}$ form a set of algebraically independent generators for the algebra $\mathbb{D}_G(X)$ of $G$-invariant differential operators on $X$, where $r$ denotes the rank of $X$. This confirms a conjecture of Engliš and Peetre, originally stated for the class…
Let $P$ be a non-negative self-adjoint Laplace type operator acting on sections of a hermitian vector bundle over a closed Riemannian manifold. In this paper we review the close relations between various $P$-related coefficients such as the mollified spectral counting coefficients, the heat trace coefficients, the resolvent trace coefficients, the residues of the spectral zeta function as well as certain Wodzicki residues. We then use the Wodzicki residue to obtain results about the local counting function of operators of Dirac and Laplace type. In particular, we express the second term of the…
Consider a fractional operator $P^s$, $0<s<1$, for connection Laplacian $P:=\nabla^*\nabla+A$ on a smooth Hermitian vector bundle over a closed, connected Riemannian manifold of dimension $n\geq 2$. We show that local knowledge of the metric, Hermitian bundle, connection, potential, and source-to-solution map associated with $P^s$ determines these structures globally. This extends a result known for the fractional Laplace-Beltrami operator.
We study tt*-geometry on the classifying space for regular singular TERP-structures, e.g., Fourier-Laplace transformations of Brieskorn lattices of isolated hypersurface singularities. We show that (a part of) this classifying space can be canonically equipped with a hermitian structure. We derive an estimate for the holomorphic sectional curvature of this hermitian metric, which is the analogue of a similar result for classifying spaces of pure polarized Hodge structures.
Motivated by the work of Abreu and Freitas, we study the invariant spectrum of the Laplace operator associated to hermitian line bundles endowed with invariant metrics over $\mathbb{p}^1$.
We study Rarita-Schwinger fields on 6-dimensional compact strict nearly Kähler manifolds. In order to investigate them, we clarify the relationship between some differential operators for the Hermitian connection and the Levi-Civita connection. As a result, we show that the space of the Rarita-Schwinger fields coincides with the space of the harmonic 3-forms. Applying the same technique to a deformation theory, we also find that the space of the infinitesimal deformations of Killing spinors coincides with the direct sum of a certain eigenspace of the Laplace operator and the space of the Killi…
A harmonic map from a Riemannian manifold into a Grassmannian manifold is characterized by a vector bundle, a space of sections of this bundle and a Laplace operator. We apply our main theorem, itself a generalization of a Theorem of Takahashi, to generalize the theory of do Carmo and Wallach and to describe the moduli space of harmonic maps satisfying the gauge and the Einstein-Hermitian conditions from a compact Rieannian manifold into a Grassmannian. As an application, several rigidity results are exihibited. In particular we generalize a rigidity theorem due to Calabi in the case of holomo…
The mirror of a projective toric manifold $X_Σ$ is given by a Landau-Ginzburg model $(Y,W)$. We introduce a class of Lagrangian submanifolds in $(Y,W)$ and show that, under the SYZ mirror transformation, they can be transformed to torus-invariant hermitian metrics on holomorphic line bundles over $X_Σ$. Through this geometric correspondence, we also identify the mirrors of Hermitian-Einstein metrics, which are given by distinguished Lagrangian sections whose potentials satisfy certain Laplace-type equations.
Let $(M,g)$ be a Riemannian manifold with Laplace-Beltrami operator $-Δ$ and let $E\to M$ be a Hermitian vector bundle with a Hermitian covariant derivative $\nabla$. Furthermore, let H(0) denote the Friedrichs realization of $\nabla^*\nabla$ and let $V$ be a potential. We prove that $V^-$ is H(0)-form bounded with bound $<1$, if the function $\maxσ(V^-)$ is in the Kato class of $(M,g)$. In particular, this gives a sufficient condition under which one can define the form sum $H(V):=H(0)\dotplus V$ on arbitrary Riemannian manifolds.
We establish inequalities for the eigenvalues of the sub-Laplace operator associated with a pseudo-Hermitian structure on a strictly pseudoconvex CR manifold. Our inequalities extend those obtained by Niu and Zhang \cite{NiuZhang} for the Dirichlet eigenvalues of the sub-Laplacian on a bounded domain in the Heisenberg group and are in the spirit of the well known Payne-Pólya-Weinberger and Yang universal inequalities.
Let $M$ be an arbitrary complex manifold and let $L$ be a Hermitian holomorphic line bundle over $M$. We introduce the Berezin-Toeplitz quantization of the open set of $M$ where the curvature on $L$ is non-degenerate. The quantum spaces are the spectral spaces corresponding to $[0,k^{-N}]$ ($N>1$ fixed), of the Kodaira Laplace operator acting on forms with values in tensor powers $L^k$. We establish the asymptotic expansion of associated Toeplitz operators and their composition as $k\to\infty$ and we define the corresponding star-product. If the Kodaira Laplace operator has a certain spectral …
We show that tensoring the Laplace and Dolbeault-Dirac operators of a Kähler structure (with closed integral) by a negative Hermitian holomorphic module, produces operators with spectral gaps around zero. The proof is based on the recently established Akizuki-Nakano identity of a noncommutative Kähler structure. This general framework is then applied to the Heckenberger-Kolb calculi of the irreducible quantum flag manifolds, and it is shown that twisting their Dirac and Laplace operators by negative line bundles produces a spectral gap, for q sufficiently close to 1. The main technical challen…
We consider a self-adjoint non-negative operator $H$ in a Hilbert space $\mathsf{L}^2(X,{\rm d}μ)$. We assume that the semigroup $(\mathrm{e}^{-t H})_{t>0}$ is defined by an integral kernel, $p$, which allows an estimate of the form $p(t,x,x)\le F_1(x)F_2(t)$ for all $(x,t)\in X\times\mathbb{R_+}$; we refer to $F_1$ as the \emph{control function}. We show that such an estimate leads to rather satisfying abstract results on relative compactness of perturbations of $H$ by potentials. It came as a surprise to us, however, that such an estimate holds for the Laplace-Beltrami operator on \emph{any}…
