This paper studies extension groups between certain Weyl modules for the algebraic group GL_n over the integers. Main results include: (1) A complete determination of Ext groups between Weyl modules whose highest weights differ by a single root and (2) Determination of Ext^1 between an exterior power of the defining representation and any Weyl module. The significance of these results for modular representation theory of GL_n is discussed in several Remarks. Notably the first result leads to a calculation of Ext groups between neighboring Weyl modules for GL_n and also recovers the GL_n case of a recent result of Andersen. Some generalities about Ext groups between Weyl modules and a brief overview of known results about these groups are also included.
We give a family of pairs of Weyl modules for which the corresponding homomorphism space is at least 2-dimensional. Using this result we show that for fixed parameters $e>0$ and $p\geq 0$ there exist arbitrarily large homomorphism spaces between pairs of Weyl modules.
We define global Weyl modules for twisted loop algebras and analyze their high- est weight spaces, which are in fact isomorphic to Laurent polynomial rings in finitely many variables. We are able to show that the global Weyl module is a free module of finite rank over these rings. Furthermore we prove, that there exist injective maps from the global Weyl modules for twisted loop algebras into a direct sum of global Weyl modules for untwisted loop algebras. Relations between local Weyl modules for twisted and untwisted generalized current algebras are known; we provide for the first time a rela…
In this paper, we study local graded Weyl modules and Demazure modules for twisted hypercurrent algebras. We prove that local graded Weyl modules for a twisted hypercurrent algebra are isomorphic to the corresponding level 1 Demazure modules, and moreover, that they are restrictions of corresponding local graded Weyl modules for the untwisted hypercurrent algebra.
We develop the theory of global and local Weyl modules for the hyperspecial maximal parabolic subalgebra of type $A_{2n}^{(2)}$. We prove that the dimension of a local Weyl module depends only on its highest weight, thus establishing a freeness result for global Weyl modules. Furthermore, we show that the graded local Weyl modules are level one Demazure modules for the corresponding affine Lie algebra. In the last section we derive the same results for the special maximal parabolic subalgebras of the twisted affine Lie algebras not of type $A_{2n}^{(2)}$.
We investigate the representations of the hyperalgebras associated to the map algebras $\mathfrak g\otimes \mathcal A$, where $\mathfrak g$ is any finite-dimensional complex simple Lie algebra and $\mathcal A$ is any associative commutative unitary algebra with a multiplicatively closed basis. We consider the natural definition of the local and global Weyl modules, and the Weyl functor for these algebras. Under certain conditions, we prove that these modules satisfy certain universal properties, and we also give conditions for the local or global Weyl modules to be finite-dimensional or finite…
We define global and local Weyl modules for $q \otimes A$, where $q$ is the queer Lie superalgebra and $A$ is an associative commutative unital $\mathbb{C}-$algebra. We prove that global Weyl modules are universal highest weight objects in certain category upto parity reversing functor $Π$. Then with the assumption that $A$ is finitely generated and with a special technical condition which simple root system of $q$ satisfy it is shown that the local Weyl modules are finite dimensional. Further they are universal highest map-weight objects in certain category upto $Π$. Finally we prove a tensor…
In this paper we study Weyl modules for a toroidal Lie algebra $\CT$ with arbitrary $n$ variables. Using the work of Rao \cite{1995}, we prove that the level one global Weyl modules of $\CT$ are isomorphic to suitable submodules of a Fock space representation of $\CT$ upto a twist. As an application, we compute the graded character of the level one local Weyl module of $\CT$, thereby generalising the work of Kodera \cite{ko}.
We study structural properties of truncated Weyl modules. A truncated Weyl module $W_N(λ)$ is a local Weyl module for $\mathfrak g[t]_N = \mathfrak g \otimes \frac{\mathbb C[t]}{t^N\mathbb C[t]}$, where $\mathfrak g$ is a finite-dimensional simple Lie algebra. It has been conjectured that, if $N$ is sufficiently small with respect to $λ$, the truncated Weyl module is isomorphic to a fusion product of certain irreducible modules. Our main result proves this conjecture when $λ$ is a multiple of certain fundamental weights, including all minuscule ones for simply laced $\mathfrak g$. We also take…
Let $A$ be a commutative, associative algebra with unity over $\mathbb{C}$. Using the definition of global Weyl modules for the map superalgebras given by Calixto, Lemay, and Savage we explicitly describe the structure of certain quotients of the global Weyl modules for the map superalgebra $\mathfrak{sl}(2,1)\otimes A$. We also give a nice basis for these modules. This work is an extension of a Theorem of Feigin and Loktev describing the structure of the Weyl module for the map algebra $\mathfrak{sl}_2\otimes A$. This work can naturally be extended to similar quotients of the global Weyl modu…
We classify simple weight modules over infinite dimensional Weyl algebras and realize them using the action on certain localizations of the polynomial ring. We describe indecomposable projective and injective weight modules and deduce from this a description of blocks of the category of weight modules by quivers and relations. As a corollary we establish Koszulity for all blocks.
Let $G$ be a semisimple algebraic group over a field of characteristic $p > 0$. We prove that the dual Weyl modules for $G$ all have $p$-filtrations when $p$ is not too small. Moreover, we give applications of this theorem to $p^n$-filtrations for $n > 1$, to modules containing the Steinberg module as a tensor factor, and to the Donkin conjecture on modules having $p$-filtrations.
Weyl modules were originally defined for affine Lie algebras by Chari and Pressley in \cite{CP}. In this paper we extend the notion of Weyl modules for a Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g} \otimes A$, where $\mathfrak{g}$ is any Kac-Moody algebra and A is any finitely generated commutative associative algebra with unit over $\mathbb{C}$, and prove a tensor product decomposition theorem generalizing \cite{CP}.
The construction of all irreducible modules of the symmetric groups over an arbitrary field which reduce to Specht modules in the case of fields of characteristic zero is given by G.D.James. Halıcıoğlu and Morris describe a possible extension of James' work for Weyl groups in general, where Young tableaux are interpreted in terms of root systems. In this paper we show how to construct submodules of Specht modules for Weyl groups.
This paper concerns representations of the integral general linear group. The extension groups $Ext^2$ between any pair of hook Weyl modules are determined via a detailed study of cyclic generators and relations associated to certain extensions. As a corollary, the modular extension groups $Ext^1$ between such modules are determined.
Let $k$ be an infinite field of positive characteristic. We determine all homomorphisms between Weyl modules for $GLn(k)$, where one of the partitions is a hook. As a consequence we obtain a nonvanishing result concerning homomorphisms between Weyl modules for algebraic groups of type B, C and D when one of the partitions is a hook.
In this paper we address the problem of classification of simple weight modules over weak generalized Weyl algebras of rank one. The principal difference between weak generalized Weyl algebras and generalized weight algebras is that weak generalized Weyl algebras are defined using an endomorphism rather than an automorphism of a commutative ring $R$. We reduce classification of simple weight modules over weak generalized Weyl algebras to description of the dynamics of the action of the above mentioned endomorphism on the set of maximal ideals. We also describe applications of our results to th…
In the representation theory of split reductive algebraic groups, it is well known that every Weyl module with minuscule highest weight is irreducible over every field. Also, the adjoint representation of $E_8$ is also irreducible over every field. In this paper, we prove a converse to these statements, as conjectured by Gross: if a Weyl module is irreducible over every field, it must be either one of these, or trivially constructed from one of these.
Let X be the group of weights of a maximal torus of a simply connected semisimple group over C and let W be the Weyl group. The semidirect product W(Q\otimes X/X) is called the extended Weyl group. There is a natural C(v)-algebra H called the extended Hecke algebra with basis indexed by the extended Weyl group which contains the usual Hecke algebra as a subalgebra. We construct an H-module with basis indexed by the involutions in the extended Weyl group. This generalizes a construction of the author and D.Vogan.
We develop a general framework for studying relative weight representations for certain pairs consisting of an associative algebra and a commutative subalgebra. Using these tools we describe projective and simple weight modules for quantum Weyl algebras for generic values of deformation parameters. We consider two quantum versions: one by Maltsiniotis and the other one by Akhavizadegan and Jordan.
We establish the existence of Demazure flags for graded local Weyl modules for hyper current algebras in positive characteristic. If the underlying simple Lie algebra is simply laced, the flag has length one, i.e., the graded local Weyl modules are isomorphic to Demazure modules. This extends to the positive characteristic setting results of Fourier-Littelmann and Naoi for current algebras in characteristic zero. Using this result, we prove that the character of local Weyl modules for hyper loop algebras depend only on the highest weight, but not on the (algebraically closed) ground field, and…
The authors proved that a Weyl module for a simple algebraic group is irreducible over every field if and only if the module is isomorphic to the adjoint representation for $E_{8}$ or its highest weight is minuscule. In this paper, we prove an analogous criteria for irreducibility of Weyl modules over the quantum group $U_ζ({\mathfrak g})$ where ${\mathfrak g}$ is a complex simple Lie algebra and $ζ$ ranges over roots of unity.
Global Weyl modules for generalized loop algebras $\lie g\tensor A$, where $\lie g$ is a simple finite dimensional Lie algebra and A is a commutative associative algebra were defined, for any dominant integral weight $λ$, by generators and relations. They are expected to play the role similar to that of Verma modules in the study of categories of representations of these algebras. One of the fundamental properties of Verma modules is that the space of morphisms between two Verma modules is either zero or one--dimensional and also that any non--zero morphism is injective. The aim of this paper …
Let $\mathfrak{g}$ be the exceptional complex simple Lie algebra of type $G_2$. We provide a concrete cyclicity condition for the tensor product of fundamental representations of the Yangian $Y(\mathfrak{g})$. Using this condition, we show that every local Weyl module is isomorphic to an ordered tensor product of fundamental representations of $Y(\mathfrak{g})$.
Let $G$ be a simple algebraic group of type $E_6$ over an algebraically closed field of characteristic $p>0$. We determine the submodule structure of the Weyl modul es with highest weight $rω_1$ for $0\leq r\leq p-1$, where $ω_1$ is the fundamental weight of the standard $27$-dimensional module. In the process, the structures of other Weyl modules with highest weights linked to $rω_1$ are also found. %We also give some computations for the Weyl modules with highest weights %of the form $r(ω_1+ω_6)$, which arise in the study of %the graph automorphism and associated twisted finite groups.
A monomial basis and a filtration of subalgebras for the universal enveloping algebra $U(g_l)$ of a complex simple Lie algebra $g_l$ of type $A_l$ is given in this note. In particular, a new multiplicity formula for the Weyl module $V(λ)$ of $U(g_l)$ is obtained in this note.
Let $K$ be an algebraically closed field of characteristic $p\geqslant 0$ and let $W$ be a finite-dimensional $K$-space of dimension greater than or equal to $5.$ In this paper, we give the structure of certain Weyl modules for $G=\mbox{Spin}(W)$ in the case where $p\neq 2,$ as well as the dimension of the corresponding irreducible, finite-dimensional, rational $KG$-modules. In addition, we determine the composition factors of the restriction of certain irreducible, finite-dimensional, rational $K\mbox{SL}(W)$-modules to $\mbox{SO}(W).$
Let F be an algebraically closed field of characteristic p>0. Suppose that SL_{n-1}(F) is naturally embedded into SL_n(F) (either in the top left corner or in the bottom right corner). We prove that certain Weyl modules over SL_{n-1}(F) can be embedded into the restriction L(ω)\downarrow_{SL_{n-1}(F)}, where L(ω) is a simple SL_n(F)-module. This allows us to construct new primitive vectors in L(ω)\downarrow_{\SL_{n-1}(F)} from any primitive vectors in the corresponding Weyl modules. Some examples are given to show that this result actually works.
We investigate Whittaker modules for generalized Weyl algebras, a class of associative algebras which includes the quantum plane, Weyl algebras, the universal enveloping algebra of sl_2 and of Heisenberg Lie algebras, Smith's generalizations of U(sl_2), various quantum analogues of these algebras, and many others. We show that the Whittaker modules V = Aw of the generalized Weyl algebra A = R(phi,t) are in bijection with the phi-stable left ideals of R. We determine the annihilator Ann_A(w) of the cyclic generator w of V. We also describe the annihilator ideal Ann_A(V) under certain assumption…
We utilize a theorem of B. Feigin and S. Loktev to give explicit bases for the global Weyl modules for the map algebras of the form $\mathfrak{sl}_n\otimes A$ of highest weight $mω_1$. These bases are given in terms of specific elements of the universal enveloping algebra, $\mathbf{U}(\mathfrak{sl}_n\otimes A)$, acting on the highest weight vector.
We classify all homomorphisms between Weyl modules for SL_3(k) when k is an algebraically closed field of characteristic at least three, and show that the Hom-spaces are all at most one-dimensional. As a corollary we obtain all homomorphisms between Specht modules for the symmetric group when the labelling partitions have at most three parts and the prime is at least three. We conclude by showing how a result of Fayers and Lyle on Hom-spaces for Specht modules is related to earlier work of Donkin for algebraic groups.
We use the theory of Gröbner-Shirshov bases for ideals to construct linear bases for graded local Weyl modules for the (hyper) current and the truncated current algebras associated to the finite-dimensional complex simple Lie algebra $\mathfrak{sl}_2$. The main result is a characteristic-free construction of bases for this important family of modules for the hyper current $\mathfrak{sl}_2$-algebra. In the positive characteristic setting this work represents the first construction in the literature. In the characteristic zero setting, the method provides a different construction of the Chari-Pr…
This paper considers Weyl modules for a simple, simply connected algebraic group over an algebraically closed field $k$ of positive characteristic $p\not=2$. The main result proves, if $p\geq 2h-2$ (where $h$ is the Coxeter number) and if the Lusztig character formula holds for all (irreducible modules with) regular restricted highest weights, then any Weyl module $Δ(λ)$ has a $Δ^p$-filtration, namely, a filtration with sections of the form $Δ^p(μ_0+pμ_1):=L(μ_0)\otimesΔ(μ_1)^{[1]}$, where $μ_0$ is restricted and $μ_1$ is arbitrary dominant. In case the highest weight $λ$ of the Weyl module $Δ…
Over fields of characteristic zero, there are well known construction of the irreducible representations and of irreducible modules, called Specht modules for the symmetric groups $S_{n}$ which are based on elegant combinatorial concepts connected with Young tableaux etc.(see, e.g.[10]). James [8] extended these ideas to construct irreducible representations and modules over arbitrary field. Al-Aamily, Morris and Peel [ 1 ] showed how this construction could be extended to deal with the Weyl groups of type $B_{n}$. In [11] the second author described a possible extension of James' work for Wey…
Let G be a universal Chevalley group over an algebraically closed field and U^- be the subalgebra of Dist(G) generated by all divided powers X_{α,m} with α<0. We conjecture an algorithm to determine if Fe^+_ω\ne0, where F\in\U^-, ωis a dominant weight and e^+_ωis a highest weight vector of the Weyl module Δ(ω). This algorithm does not use bases of Δ(ω) and is similar to the algorithm for irreducible modules that involves stepwise raising the vector under investigation. For an arbitrary G, this conjecture is proved in one direction and for G of type A in both.
We determine the integral extension groups $Ext^1(Δ(h),Δ(h(k)))$ and $Ext^k(Δ(h),Δ(h(k)))$, where $Δ(h),Δ(h(k))$ are the Weyl modules of the general linear group $GL_n$ corresponding to the hook partitions $h=(a,1^b)$, $h(k)=(a+k,1^{b-k})$.
In a previous paper, the authors studied the radical filtration of a Weyl module $Δ_ζ(λ)$ for quantum enveloping algebras $U_ζ(\overset\circ{\mathfrak g})$ associated to a finite dimensional complex semisimple Lie algebra $\overset\circ{\mathfrak g}$. There $ζ^2=\sqrt[e]{1}$ and $λ$ was, initially, required to be $e$-regular. Some additional restrictions on $e$ were required---e.g., $e>h$, the Coxeter number, and $e$ odd. Translation to a facet gave an explicit semisimple series for all quantum Weyl modules with singular, as well as regular, weights. That is, the sections of the filtration are…
For a special class of generalized Weyl algebras, we prove a Duflo theorem stating that the annihilator of any simple module is in fact the annihilator of a simple highest weight module.
Let $G$ be a connected reductive algebraic group over an algebraically closed field of characteristic $p>0$, $Δ(λ)$ denote the Weyl module of $G$ of highest weight $λ$ and $ι_{λ,μ}:Δ(λ+μ)\to Δ(λ)\otimesΔ(μ)$ be the canonical $G$-morphism. We study the split condition for $ι_{λ,μ}$ over $\mathbb{Z}_{(p)}$, and apply this as an approach to compare the Jantzen filtrations of the Weyl modules $Δ(λ)$ and $Δ(λ+μ)$. In the case when $G$ is of type $A$, we show that the split condition is closely related to the product of certain Young symmetrizers and, under some mild conditions, is further character…
We provide a sufficient condition for the cyclicity of an ordered tensor product $L=V_{a_1}(ω_{b_1})\otimes V_{a_2}(ω_{b_2})\otimes...\otimes V_{a_k}(ω_{b_k})$ of fundamental representations of the Yangian $Y(\mathfrak{g})$. When $\mathfrak{g}$ is a classical simple Lie algebra, we make the cyclicity condition concrete, which leads to an irreducibility criterion for the ordered tensor product $L$. In the case when $\mathfrak{g}=\mathfrak{sl}_{l+1}$, a sufficient and necessary condition for the irreducibility of the ordered tensor product $L$ is obtained. The cyclicity of the ordered tensor pro…
We give a Poincare-Birkhoff-Witt type basis for local Weyl modules of the current algebra of type $C$. As a consequence, we get a fermionic character formula for these modules.
The notion of a Weyl module, previously defined for the untwisted affine algebras, is extended here to the twisted affine algebras. We describe an identification of the Weyl modules for the twisted affine algebras with suitably chosen Weyl modules for the untwisted affine algebras. This identification allows us to use known results in the untwisted case to compute the dimensions and characters of the Weyl modules for the twisted algebras.
Let $H_k(W,q)$ be the Iwahori--Hecke algebra associated with a finite Weyl group $W$, where $k$ is a field and $0 \neq q \in k$. Assume that the characteristic of $k$ is not ``bad'' for $W$ and let $e$ be the smallest $i \geq 2$ such that $1+q+q^2+... +q^{i-1}=0$. We show that the number of simple $H_k(H,q)$-modules is ``generic'', i.e., it only depends on $e$. The proof uses some computations in the {\sf CHEVIE} package of {\sf GAP} and known results due to Dipper--James, Ariki--Mathas, Rouquier and the author.
We introduce the notion of generalized Weyl modules for twisted current algebras. We study their representation-theoretic and combinatorial properties and connection to the theory of nonsymmetric Macdonald polynomials. As an application we compute the dimension of the classical Weyl modules in the remaining unknown case.
We calculate the cohomology of $\mathfrak{sl}_3(k)$ over an algebraically closed field $k$ of characteristic $p>3$ with coefficients in simple modules and Weyl modules. We also give descriptions of the corresponding cohomology of $\mathfrak{gl}_3(k)$.
We construct explicit resolutions of Weyl modules by divided powers and of co-Specht modules by permutational modules. We also prove a conjecture of Boltje-Hartmann on resolutions of co-Specht modules.
We study finite dimensional representations of current algebras, loop algebras and their quantized versions. For the current algebra of a simple Lie algebra of type {\tt ADE}, we show that Kirillov-Reshetikhin modules and Weyl modules are in fact all Demazure modules. As a consequence one obtains an elementary proof of the dimension formula for Weyl modules for the current and the loop algebra. Further, we show that the crystals of the Weyl and the Demazure module are the same up to some additional label zero arrows for the Weyl module. For the current algebra $\Lgc$ of an arbitrary simple Lie…
We study a relationship between the graded characters of generalized Weyl modules $W_{w λ}$, $w \in W$, over the positive part of the affine Lie algebra and those of specific quotients $V_{w}^- (λ) / X_{w}^- (λ)$, $w \in W$, of the Demazure submodules $V_{w}^- (λ)$ of the extremal weight modules $V(λ)$ over the quantum affine algebra, where $W$ is the finite Weyl group and $λ$ is a dominant weight. More precisely, we prove that a specific quotient of the Demazure submodule is a quantum analog of a generalized Weyl module.
We consider hereditary Artin algebras over arbitrary fields and prove that there is a natural bijection between the Weyl groups and the sets of full additive cofinite submodule closed subcategories of the module categories. While Oppermann, Reiten and Thomas have shown this for algebraically closed fields and finite fields, we give a different method of proof that holds independently of the field. In particular, we show a relatively simple way to construct all modules that contain a given preinjective module as a submodule.
Local Weyl modules over two-dimensional currents with values in $gl_r$ are deformed into spaces with bases related to parking functions. Using this construction we 1) propose a simple proof that dimension of the space of diagonal coinvariants is not less than the number of parking functions; 2) describe the limits of Weyl modules in terms of semi-infinite forms and find the limits of characters; 3) propose a lower bound and state a conjecture for dimensions of Weyl modules with arbitrary highest weights. Also we express characters of deformed Weyl modules in terms of $ρ$-parking functions and …
We present methods and explicit formulas for describing simple weight modules over twisted generalized Weyl algebras. When a certain commutative subalgebra is finitely generated over an algebraically closed field we obtain a classification of a class of locally finite simple weight modules as those induced from simple modules over a subalgebra isomorphic to a tensor product of noncommutative tori. As an application we describe simple weight modules over the quantized Weyl algebra.
