It is easy to imagine that a subvariety of a vector bundle, whose intersection with every fibre is a vector subspace of constant dimension, must necessarily be a sub-bundle. We give two examples to show that this is not true, and several situations in which the implication does hold. For example it is true if the base is normal and the field has characteristic zero. A convenient test is whether or not the intersections with the fibres are reduced as schemes.
In this note, we generalize slightly Popa--Schnell's theorem regarding to direct images of pluricanonical bundles to the case when the ample line bundle is not globally generated. We also treat the case of positive characteristic.
We discuss some relations of moduli of sheaves on rational surfaces by using universal extensions. These are a generalization of Maruyama's method to construct Uhlenbeck compactification of moduli of vector bundles.
We study the splitting properties of the Verlinde bundles over elliptic curves. Our methods rely on the explicit description of the moduli space of semistable vector bundles on elliptic curves, and on the analysis of the symmetric powers of the Schrodinger representation of the Theta group.
We show that for any ample line bundle on a smooth complex projective variety with nonnegative Kodaira dimension, the semistability of co-Higgs bundles of implies the semistability of bundles. Then we investigate the criterion for surface $X$ to have $H^0(T_X)=H^0(S^2T_X)=0$, which implies that any co-Higgs structure of rank two is nilpotent.
Mehta and Seshadri have proved that the set of equivalence classes of irreducible unitary representations of the fundamental group of a punctured compact Riemann surface, can be identified with equivalence classes of stable parabolic bundles of parabolic degree zero on the compact Riemann surface. In this note, we discuss the Mehta-Seshadri correspondence over an irreducible projective curve with at most nodes as singularities.
We study Seshadri constants of ample line bundles on hyperelliptic surfaces. We obtain new lower bounds and compute the exact values of Seshadri constants in some cases. Our approach uses results of F. Serrano (1990), B. Harboune and J. Roe (2008), F. Bastianelli (2009), A.L. Knutsen, W. Syzdek and T. Szemberg (2009).
We study k-very ampleness of line bundles on blow-ups of hyperelliptic surfaces at r very general points. We obtain a numerical condition on the number of points for which a line bundle on the blow-up of a hyperelliptic surface at these r points gives an embedding of order k.
In this note, we prove that the syzygy bundle $M_L$ is cohomologically stable with respect to $L$ for any ample and globally generated line bundle $L$ on an Enriques (resp. bielliptic) surface over an algebraically closed field of characteristic $\neq 2$ (resp. $\neq 2,3$). In particular our result on complex Enriques surfaces improves a result of Torres-López and Zamora by removing a condition on Clifford index. Together with the results of Camere and Caucci--Lahoz, it implies that $M_L$ is stable with respect to $L$ for an ample and globally generated line bundle $L$ on any smooth minimal co…
It is well known that for an ample line bundle $L$ on an Abelian variety $A$, the linear system |2L| is base point free, and 3L is very ample, moreover the map defined by the linear system |2L| is well understood. In this paper we generalized this classical result and give a new proof using the theory CGG developed by Pareschi and Popa.
Let $π: X \longrightarrow C$ be a fibration with reduced fibers over a curve $C$ and consider a polarization $H$ on the surface $X$. Let $E$ be a stable vector bundle of rank $2$ on $C$. We prove that the pullback $π^*E$ is a $H-$stable bundle over $X$. This result allows us to relate the corresponding moduli spaces of stable bundles $\mathcal{M}_C(2,d)$ and $\mathcal{M}_{X,H}(2,df,0)$ through an injective morphism. We study the induced morphism at the level of Brill-Noether loci to construct examples of Brill-Noether loci on fibered surfaces. Results concerning the emptiness of Brill-Noether …
Let $\Cal E$ be a very ample vector bundle of rank two on a smooth complex projective threefold $X$. An inequality about the third Segre class of $\Cal E$ is provided when $K_X+\det \Cal E$ is nef but not big, and when a suitable positive multiple of $K_X+\det \Cal E$ defines a morphism $X\to B$ with connected fibers onto a smooth projective curve $B$, where $K_X$ is the canonical bundle of $X$. As an application, the case where the genus of $B$ is positive and $\Cal E$ has a global section whose zero locus is a smooth hyperelliptic curve of genus $\geq 2$ is investigated, and our previous res…
We prove the non-emptiness of $M_{H,Y}(v)$, the moduli space of Gieseker-semistable sheaves on an unnodal Enriques surface $Y$ with Mukai vector $v$ of positive rank with respect to a generic polarization $H$. This completes the chain of progress initiated by H. Kim in \cite{Kim98}. We also show that the stable locus $M^s_{H,Y}(v)\neq\varnothing$ for $v^2>0$. Finally, we prove irreducibility of $M_{H,Y}(v)$ in case $v^2=0$ and $v$ primitive.
We give a complete classification of equivariant vector bundles of rank two over smooth complete toric surfaces and construct moduli spaces of such bundles. This note is a direct continuation of an earlier note where we developed a general description of equivariant sheaves on toric varieties. Here we give a first application of that description.
In this note we prove a new explicit formula for the invariants of moduli spaces of twisted Higgs bundles over P^1 and we relate these invariants to the invariants of moduli spaces of representations of some infinite symmetric quiver. The formula can be easily implemented for computations and it is in agreement with the existing conjectures for the invariants of twisted Higgs bundles over curves. Results of this note were presented in Oberwolfach in May 2014.
We show that positivity of the CM line associated to a family of polarised varieties is intimately related to the stability of its members. We prove that the CM line is nef on any curve which meets the stable locus, and that it is pseudoeffective (i.e. in the closure of the effective cone) as long as there is at least one stable fibre. We give examples showing that the CM line can be strictly negative or strictly positive on curves in the unstable locus.
We formulate and prove the existence of an asymptotic duality along the fibers of the Green-Griffiths jet bundles over projective manifolds. The existence of global sections for these bundles and also for their dual sheaves has been established by the author and J. P. Demailly in a previous article, [3].
Let $C$ be a trigonal curve of genus $g\ge 5$ and let $T$ be the unique trigonal line bundle inducing a map $π: C \stackrel{3:1}{\longrightarrow} \mathbb{P}^1$. This note provides a short and easy proof of the normal generation for the residual line bundle $K_C\otimes T^{-1}$ for curves of genus $g\ge 7$. Moreover, we compute the minimal free resolution of the embedded curve $C\subset \mathbb{P}(H^0(C,K_C\otimes T^{-n})^*)$ for the residual line bundle $K_C\otimes T^{-n}$ for $n\ge 1$ and $g \ge 3n+4$.
Let X be a smooth projective hypersurface. In this note we show that any six generated arithmetically Cohen-Macaulay vector bundle over X splits if dim X >= 6.
In this note we prove that any toric Fano manifold with nef tangent bundle is a product of projective spaces. In particular, it implies that Campana-Peternell conjecture hold for toric manifolds.

In this short note we will show that every homogeneous strictly nef vector bundle on a complex flag variety is ample. Following this, we consider whether ampleness of a bundle on an abelian variety can be tested on curves.
In this note we intend to look at the moduli stacks for global $G$-shtukas from a new perspective. We discuss a unifying interpretation of several moduli spaces (stacks) including moduli of global $G$-shtukas and (a variant of the) moduli of Higgs bundles. We view these spaces (stacks) as different fibers of a family over a scheme (stack) locally of finite type. We discuss (a relative version of) the local model theory for this family. We also consider the Hecke stacks over the moduli stack of $G$-shtukas and discuss the corresponding (motivic) Hecke operations.
The construction of double point cobordism groups of vector bundles on varieties in the work [Lee-P] (arXiv:1002.1500 [math.AG]) of Yuan-Pin Lee and Rahul Pandharipande gives immediately double point cobordism groups of filtered vector bundles on varieties. We note also that among the four basic operations -- direct sum, tensor product, dual, and Hom -- on vector bundles on varieties, only taking dual is compatible with double point cobordisms of vector bundles on varieties in general, by a demonstration on an example of vector bundles on Calabi-Yau 3-folds. A question on refined and/or higher…
In this note, we prove that there exist stable Ulrich bundles of every even rank on a smooth quartic surface $X \subset \mathbb{P}^3$ with Picard number 1.
Beauville and Laszlo give an interpretation of the affine Grassmannian for Gl_n over a field k as a moduli space of, loosely speaking, vector bundles over a projective curve together with a trivialization over the complement of a fixed closed point. In order to establish this correspondence, they have to show that descent for vector bundles holds in a situation which is not a classical fpqc-descent situation. They prove this as a consequence of an abstract descent lemma. It turns out, however, that one can avoid this descent lemma by using a simple approximation-argument, which leads to a more…
We investigate Chow stability of projective bundles P(E) where E is a strictly Gieseker stable bundle over a base manifold that has constant scalar curvature. We show that, for suitable polarisations L, the pair (P(E),L) is Chow stable and give examples for which it is not asymptotically Chow stable.
The aim of this brief note for the volume in honor of S. S. Chern is to give a construction for $p$-torsion line bundles in characteristic $p>0$ which plays a similar rôle as the standard connection on an $n$-torsion line bundle in characteristic 0.
Let $X$ be a smooth projective hypersurface. In this note we show that any rank 3 arithmetically Cohen-Macaulay vector bundle over $X$ splits when dim $X \geq 7$. We also find a splitting criterion for rank 4 arithmetically Cohen-Macaulay vector bundles on $X$ when dim $X \geq 9$.
In this note, we give a simple necessary condition for the Zariski relative tangent space and the Grothendieck relative tangent space to be isomorphic.
These notes give an introduction to Geometric Invariant Theory and symplectic reduction, with lots of pictures and simple examples. We describe their applications to moduli of bundles and varieties, and their infinite dimensional analogues in gauge theory and the theory of special metrics on algebraic varieties. Donaldson's "quantisation" link between the infinite and finite dimensional situations is described, as are surprisingly strong connections between the bundle and variety cases.
In this note, we study monodromies of algebraic connections on the trivial vector bundle. We prove that on a smooth complex affine curve, any monodromy arises as the underlying local system of an algebraic connection on the trivial bundle. We give a generalization of this for rank one monodromies in higher dimension.
In this note we show that given a lc pair $(X, Δ)$, a large enough multiple of the bundle $K_X+ Δ$ is effective provided that its Chern class contains an effective $\bQ$-divisor.
We establish a striking connection between Abramovich's and Vistoli's twisted bundles and Gieseker vector bundles. This note grew out of an attempt to understand a recent draft of Seshadri.
The aim of this note is to investigate the relation between two types of non-singular projective varieties of Picard rank 2, namely the Projective bundles over Projective spaces and certain Blow-up of Projective spaces.
In this note we prove that the Fourier-Mukai transform $Φ_{\mathcal{U}}$ induced by the universal family of the moduli space $\mathcal{M}_{\mathbb{P}^2}(4,1,3)$ is not fully faithful.
This note corrects a certain construction in (the old version of) the paper [GL]. The construction in question starts from a Brylinski-Deligne datum, which is an extension of a group G by K_2, and produces a factorization line bundle on the affine Grassmannian of the group G.
The aim of this note is to describe the restriction map from the moduli space of stable rank 2 bundle with small $c_2$ on a jacobian $X$ of dimension 2, to the moduli space of stable rank 2 bundles on the corresponding genus 2 curve $C$ embedded in $X$.
The aim of this note is to find upper bounds on the dimension of Brill-Noether locus' inside the moduli space of rank two vector bundles on a smooth algebraic curve. We deduce some consequences of these bounds.
A classical way to construct a Lagrangian in a symplectic manifold $Σ$ is to let $Σ$ appear as a smooth fiber in a Lefschetz fibration. If this is possible the singularities of the fibration induce Lagrangian spheres in $Σ$ and these spheres, in turn, are representatives of the corresponding vanishing cycles in the homology of $Σ$. In this paper our aim is twofold: The first is to describe a generalization of the above mentioned construction to the "Morse-Bott" case. This leads, whenever such a degeneration exists, to the existence of Lagrangian sphere bundles rather than just spheres. In the …
In this note we give an easy proof of the existence of generically smooth components of the expected dimension of certain Brill--Noether loci of stable rank 2 vector bundles on a curve with general moduli, with related applications to Hilbert scheme of scrolls.
In this note we apply the techniques of the toric systems introduced by Hille-Perling to several problems on smooth projective surfaces: We showed that the existence of full exceptional collection of line bundles implies the rationality for small Picard rank surfaces; we proved equivalences of several notions of cyclic strong exceptional collection of line bundles; we also proposed a partial solution to a conjecture on exceptional sheaves on weak del Pezzo surfaces.
Étale Nori finite vector bundles are those bundles defined by representations of a finite étale group scheme in the usual way. In this note we show that in many cases the dimensions of the Hodge cohomology groups of such a vector bundle and of a twist of it by an automorphism of the ground field are the same. This generalizes to the higher rank case a result of Pink-Roessler.
M. Nori proved that on a projective smooth variety, a bundle is finite, (that is the ring it generates has dimension 0), if and only if it trivializes on a finite cover. In this note, we consider bundles of degree 0 on an elliptic curve. We prove that the dimension of the ring generated by such a bundle is the same as the dimension of a torsor trivializing the bundle (and is 1).
In this note, we investigate the Chern classes of flat bundles in the arithmetic Deligne Cohomology, introduced by Green-Griffiths, Asakura-Saito. We show nontriviality of the Chern classes in some cases and the proof also indicates that generic flat bundles (in its moduli space) can be expected to have nontrivial classes, which is in contrast with some Gauss-Manin systems.
In this note, we prove effective semi-ampleness conjecture due to Prokhorov and Shokurov for a special case, more concretely, for Q-Gorenstein klt-trivial fibrations over smooth projective curves whose fibers are all klt log Calabi-Yau pairs of Fano type.
In this note we show that the sheaf $R^1 f_* \mathcal{O}_X$ is an anti-nef vector bundle (i.e., its dual is nef), where $f : X \to Y$ is a family of Du Bois schemes of pure dimension.
