The base space of a semiuniversal unfolding of a hypersurface singularity carries a rich geometry. By work of K. Saito and M. Saito is can be equipped with the structure of a Frobenius manifold. By work of Cecotti and Vafa it can be equipped with tt* geometry if the singularity is quasihomogeneous. tt* geometry generalizes the notion of variation of Hodge structures.
In the second part of this paper (chapters 6-8) Frobenius manifolds and tt* geometry are constructed for any hypersurface singularity, using essentially oscillating integrals; and the intimate relationship between polarized mixed Hodge structures and this tt* geometry is worked out.
In the first part (chapters 2-5) tt* geometry and Frobenius manifolds and their relations are studied in general. To both of them flat connections with poles are associated, with distinctive common and different properties. A frame for a simultaneous construction is given.
We show that the Frobenius manifold associated to the pair of a cusp singularity and it's canonical primitive form is isomorphic to the one constructed from the Gromov--Witten theory for an orbifold projective line with at most three orbifold points. We also calculate the intersection form of the Frobenius manifold.
We investigate the $W_2(k)$-liftability of singular schemes. We prove constructibility of the locus of $W_2(k)$-liftable schemes in a flat family $X \to S$. Moreover, we construct an explicit $W_2(k)$-lifting of a Frobenius split scheme $X$ over a perfect field $k$, reproving Bhatt's existential result. Furthermore, we study existence of liftings of the Frobenius morphism. In particular, we prove that in dimension $n \geq 4$ ordinary double points do not admit a $W_2(k)$-lifting compatible with Frobenius, and that canonical surface singularities are Frobenius liftable. Combined with Bhatt's re…
Consider a polynomial $f$ defined over a field $k$, the multiplicity is perhaps the most naive measurement of the singularities of $f$. This paper describes the first steps toward understanding a much more subtle measure of singularities which arises naturally in three different contexts-- analytic, algebro-geometric, and finally, algebraic. Miraculously, all three approaches lead to essentially the same measurement of singularities: the log canonical threshold (in characteristic zero) and the closely related $F$-pure threshold (in characteristic $p$). In this paper we present only the first s…
Previously, we introduced a duality transformation for Euler $G$--Frobenius algebras. Using this transformation, we prove that the simple $A,D,E$ singularities and Pham singularities of coprime powers are mirror self--dual where the mirror duality is implemented by orbifolding with respect to the symmetry group generated by the grading operator and dualizing. We furthermore calculate orbifolds and duals to other $G$--Frobenius algebras which relate different $G$--Frobenius algebras for singularities. In particular, using orbifolding and the duality transformation we provide a mirror pairs for …
Using a local monomialization result of Knaf and Kuhlmann, we prove that the valuation ring of an Abhyankar valuation of a function field over a perfect ground field of prime characteristic is Frobenius split. We show that a Frobenius splitting of a sufficiently well-behaved center lifts to a Frobenius splitting of the valuation ring. We also investigate properties of valuations centered on arbitrary Noetherian domains of prime characteristic. In contrast to [arXiv:1507.06009], this paper emphasizes the role of centers in controlling Frobenius properties of valuations rings in prime characteri…
We give sufficient conditions for a Frobenius category to be equivalent to the category of Gorenstein projective modules over an Iwanaga-Gorenstein ring. We then apply this result to the Frobenius category of special Cohen-Macaulay modules over a rational surface singularity, where we show that the associated stable category is triangle equivalent to the singularity category of a certain discrepant partial resolution of the given rational singularity. In particular, this produces uncountably many Iwanaga-Gorenstein rings of finite GP type. We also apply our method to representation theory, obt…
Consider a meromorphic connection on P^1 over a p-adic field. In many cases, such as those arising from Picard-Fuchs equations or Gauss-Manin connections, this connection admits a Frobenius structure defined over a suitable rigid analytic subspace. We give an effective convergence bound for this Frobenius structure by studying the effect of changing the Frobenius lift. We also give some examples indicating that our bound is essentially optimal.

An $F$-nilpotent local ring is a local ring $(R, \mathfrak{m})$ of prime characteristic defined by the nilpotence of the Frobenius action on its local cohomology modules $H^i_{\mathfrak{m}}(R)$. A singularity in characteristic zero is said to be of $F$-nilpotent type if its modulo $p$ reduction is $F$-nilpotent for almost all $p$. In this paper, we give a Hodge-theoretic interpretation of three-dimensional normal isolated singularities of $F$-nilpotent type. In the graded case, this yields a characterization of these singularities in terms of divisor class groups and Brauer groups.
The existence of universal unfoldings of certain germs of meromorphic connections is established. This is used to prove a general construction theorem for Frobenius manifolds. A particular case is Dubrovin's theorem on semisimple Frobenius manifolds. Another special case starts with variations of Hodge structures. This case is used to compare two constructions of Frobenius manifolds, the one in singularity theory and the Barannikov-Kontsevich construction. For homogeneous polynomials which give Calabi-Yau hypersurfaces certain Frobenius submanifolds in both constructions are isomorphic.
The paper studies three classes of Frobenius manifolds: Quantum Cohomology (topological sigma-models), unfolding spaces of singularities (K. Saito's theory, Landau-Ginzburg models), and the recent Barannikov-Kontsevich construction starting with the Dolbeault complex of a Calabi-Yau manifold and conjecturally producing the B--side of the Mirror Conjecture in arbitrary dimension. Each known construction provides the relevant Frobenius manifold with an extra structure which can be thought of as a version of ``non-linear cohomology''. The comparison of thesestructures sheds some light on the gene…
The study of Frobenius actions on local cohomology modules over a local ring of prime characteristic has interesting connections with the theory of tight closure. This paper establishes new connections by developing the notion of relative Frobenius actions on local cohomology. As an application, we show that a ring has $F$-nilpotent singularities if and only if the tight closure of every parameter ideal is equal to its Frobenius closure.
Demailly proved that on a smooth compact Kähler manifold the distribution defined by a holomorphic $p$-form with values in an anti-pseudoeffective line bundle is always integrable. We generalise his result to compact Kähler spaces with klt singularities.
We study the general theory of Frobenius algebras with group actions. These structures arise when one is studying the algebraic structures associated to a geometry stemming from a physical theory with a global finite gauge group, i.e. orbifold theories. In this context, we introduce and axiomatize these algebras. Furthermore, we define a geometric cobordism categories whose functors to the category of vector spaces are parameterized by these algebras. The theory is also extended to the graded and super-graded cases. As an application, we consider Frobenius algebras having some additional prope…
The base space of a semi-universal unfolding of a hypersurface singularity carries a rich geometric structure, which was axiomatized as a CDV-structure by C. Hertling. For any CDV-structure on a Frobenius manifold M, the pull-back of the (1,0)-tangent bundle of M to the product of M by the complex line carries two natural holomorphic structures equipped with flat meromorphic connections. We show that, for any semi-simple CDV-structure, there is a formal isomorphism between these two bundles compatible with connections. Moreover, if we assume that the super-symmetric index Q vanishes, we give a…
We obtain algebraic Frobenius manifolds from classical $W$-algebras associated to subregular nilpotent elements in simple Lie algebras of type $D_r$ where $r$ is even and $E_r$. The resulting Frobenius manifolds are certain hypersurfaces in the total spaces of semiuniversal deformation of simple hypersurface singularities of the same types.
A well known construction of B. Dubrovin and K. Saito endows the parameter space of a universal unfolding of a simple singularity with a Frobenius manifold structure. In our paper we present a generalization of this construction for the singularities of types $A$ and $D$, that gives a solution of the open WDVV equations. For the $A$-singularity the resulting solution describes the intersection numbers on the moduli space of $r$-spin disks, introduced recently in a work of the second author, E. Clader and R. Tessler. In the second part of the paper we describe the space of homogeneous polynomia…
The Landau-Ginzburg A-model, given by FJRW theory, defines a cohomological field theory, but in most examples is very difficult to compute, especially when the symmetry group is not maximal. We give some methods for finding the A-model structure. In many cases our methods completely determine the previously unknown A-model Frobenius manifold structure. In the case where these Frobenius manifolds are semisimple, this can be shown to determine the structure of the higher genus potential as well. We compute the Frobenius manifold structure for 27 of the previously unknown unimodal and bimodal sin…
The paper math.AG/0108100 gives a construction of the total descendent potential corresponding to a semisimple Frobenius manifold. In math.AG/0209205, it is proved that the total descendent potential corresponding to K. Saito's Frobenius structure on the parameter space of the miniversal deformation of the A_{n-1}-singularity satisfies the modulo-n reduction of the KP-hierarchy. In this paper, we identify the hierarchy satisfied by the total descendent potential of a simple singularity of the A,D,E-type. Our description of the hierarchy is parallel to the vertex operator construction of Kac --…
In this paper we prove that the GW invariants of the elliptic orbifold lines with weights (3,3,3), (4,4,2), and (6,3,2) are quasi-modular forms. Our method is based on Givental's higher genus reconstruction formalism applied to the settings of Saito's Frobenius structures for simple elliptic singularities. Our results are part of a larger project whose goal is to prove the Landau-Ginzburg/Calabi-Yau correspondence for simple elliptic singularities. The correspondence describes a relation between Gromov-Witten theory (of a certain hypersurface) and Fan-Jarvis-Ruan-Witten theory (of a certain La…
We propose a new construction of an integrable hierarchy associated to any infinite series of Frobenius manifolds satisfying a certain stabilization condition. We study these hierarchies for Frobenius manifolds associated to $A_N$, $D_N$ and $B_N$ singularities. In the case of $A_N$ Frobenius manifolds our hierarchy turns out to coincide with the KP hierarchy; for $B_N$ Frobenius manifolds it coincides with the BKP hierarchy; and for $D_N$ hierarchy it is a certain reduction of the 2-component BKP hierarchy. As a side product to these results we illustrate the enumerative meaning of certain co…
In this paper, we consider the generalized isomonodromic deformations of rank two irregular connections on the Riemann sphere. We introduce Darboux coordinates on the parameter space of a family of rank two irregular connections by apparent singularities. By the Darboux coordinates, we describe the generalized isomonodromic deformations as Hamiltonian systems.
We represent the genus two free energy of an arbitrary semisimple Frobenius manifold as a sum of contributions associated with dual graphs of certain stable algebraic curves of genus two plus the so-called "genus two G-function". Conjecturally the genus two G-function vanishes for a series of important examples of Frobenius manifolds associated with simple singularities as well as for ${\bf P}^1$-orbifolds with positive Euler characteristics. We explain the reasons for such Conjecture and prove it in certain particular cases.
N.Katz's middle convolution algorithm provides a description of rigid connections on the projective line with regular singularities. We extend the algorithm by adding the Fourier transform to it. The extended algorithm provides a description of rigid connections with arbitrary singularities.
We construct Frobenius structures on the $\mathbb{C}^{\times}$-bundle of the complement of a toric arrangement associated with a root system, by making use of a one-parameter family of torsion free and flat connections on it. This gives rise to a trigonometric version of Frobenius algebras in terms of root systems and a new class of Frobenius manifolds. We also determine their potential functions.
We identify the holomorphic de Rham complex of the minimal extension of a meromorphic vector bundle with connexion on a compact Riemann surface X with the L^2 complex relative to a suitable metric on the bundle and a complete metric on the punctured Riemann surface. Applying results of C. Simpson, we show the existence of a harmonic metric on this vector bundle, giving the same L^2 complex. As a consequence, we obtain a Hard Lefschetz-type theorem.
We use the G-invariant non-degenerate form on the Steinberg module to Frobenius split the cotangent bundle of a flag variety in good prime characteristics. This was previously only known for the general linear group. Applications are a vanishing theorem for pull back of line bundles to the cotangent bundle (proved for the classical groups and G_2 by Andersen and Jantzen and in characteristic zero by B. Broer (for all groups)), normality and rational singularities for the subregular nilpotent variety and good filtrations of the global sections of pull backs of line bundles to the cotangent bund…
Let π: V \rightarrow M be a (real or holomorphic) vector bundle whose base has an almost Frobenius structure (\circ_{M},e_{M}, g_{M}) and typical fiber has the structure of a Frobenius algebra (\circ_{V},e_{V},g_{V}). Using a connection D on the bundle V and a morphism α: V \rightarrow TM, we construct an almost Frobenius structure (\circ,e_{V},g) on the manifold V and we study when it is Frobenius. We describe all (real) positive-definite Frobenius structures on V, obtained in this way, when M is a semisimple Frobenius manifold with non-vanishing rotation coefficients. In the holomorphic sett…
We consider a family of generic weighted arrangements of $n$ hyperplanes in $\C^k$ and show that the Gauss-Manin connection for the associated hypergeometric integrals, the contravariant form on the space of singular vectors, and the algebra of functions on the critical set of the master function define a Frobenius like structure on the base of the family. As a result of this construction we show that the matrix elements of the linear operators of the Gauss-Manin connection are given by the 2k+1-st derivatives of a single function on the base of the family, the function called the potential of…
We study critical behaviour and connection problem for a Painleve' 6 equation. We construct solutions of WDVV eqs. using the isomonodromic deformation method and the Painleve' equations. We find algebraic solutions of WDVV and Gromov-Witten invariants of projective space.
In this paper we study singularities defined by the action of Frobenius in characteristic $p > 0$. We prove results analogous to inversion of adjunction along a center of log canonicity. For example, we show that if $X$ is a Gorenstein normal variety then to every normal center of sharp $F$-purity $W \subseteq X$ such that $X$ is $F$-pure at the generic point of $W$, there exists a canonically defined $\bQ$-divisor $Δ_{W}$ on $W$ satisfying $(K_X)|_W \sim_{\bQ} K_{W} + Δ_{W}$. Furthermore, the singularities of $X$ near $W$ are "the same" as the singularities of $(W, Δ_{W})$. As an application,…
We construct a functor from the derived category of homotopy Gerstenhaber algebras with finite-dimensional cohomology to the purely geometric category of so-called $F_{\infty}$-manifolds. The latter contains Frobenius manifolds as a subcategory (so that a pointed Frobenius manifold is itself a homotopy Gerstenhaber algebra). If a homotopy Gerstenhaber algebra happens to be formal as a $L_{\infty}$-algebra, then its $F_{\infty}$-manifold comes equipped with the Gauss-Manin connection. Mirror Symmetry implications are discussed.
In previous work, the authors have developed a geometric theory of fundamental strata to study connections on the projective line with irregular singularities of parahoric formal type. In this paper, the moduli space of connections that contain regular fundamental strata with fixed combinatorics at each singular point is constructed as a smooth Poisson reduction. The authors then explicitly compute the isomonodromy equations as an integrable system. This result generalizes work of Jimbo, Miwa, and Ueno to connections whose singularities have parahoric formal type.
In a recent paper [8], it is proved that the genus two free energy of an arbitrary semisimple Frobenius manifold can be represented as a sum of contributions associated with dual graphs of certain stable algebraic curves of genus two plus the so called genus two G-function, and for a certain class of Frobenius manifolds it is conjectured that the associated genus two G-function vanishes. In this paper, we prove this conjecture for the Frobenius manifolds associated with simple singularities of type A.
Let $X$ be an equivariant embedding of a connected reductive group $G$ over an algebraically closed field $k$ of positive characteristic. Let $B$ denote a Borel subgroup of $G$. A $G$-Schubert variety in $X$ is a subvariety of the form $\diag(G) \cdot V$, where $V$ is a $B \times B$-orbit closure in $X$. In the case where $X$ is the wonderful compactification of a group of adjoint type, the $G$-Schubert varieties are the closures of Lusztig's $G$-stable pieces. We prove that $X$ admits a Frobenius splitting which is compatible with all $G$-Schubert varieties. Moreover, when $X$ is smooth, proj…
Our goal is to convince the readers that the theory of complex normal surface singularities can be a powerful tool in the study of numerical semigroups, and, in the same time, a very rich source of interesting affine and numerical semigroups. More precisely, we prove that the strongly flat semigroups, which satisfy the maximality property with respect to the Diophantine Frobenius problem, are exactly the numerical semigroups associated with negative definite Seifert homology spheres via the possible 'weights' of the generic $S^1$-orbit. Furthermore, we consider their generalization to the Seif…
In the present paper, we study the relationship between deformation quantizations and Frobenius-projective structures defined on an algebraic curve in positive characteristic. A Frobenius-projective structure is an analogue of a complex projective structure on a Riemann surface, which was introduced by Y. Hoshi. Such an additional structure has some equivalent objects, e.g., a dormant $\mathrm{PGL}_2$-oper and a projective connection having a full set of solutions. The main result of the present paper provides a canonical construction of a Frobenius-constant quantization on the cotangent space…
This note explains a construction of a Poisson manifold whose symplectic foliation describes a deformation of a moduli space of meromorphic connections with unramified irregular singularities. In particular, this deformation of the moduli space corresponds to the unfolding of irregular singularities of the meromorphic connections. This is an announcement of some results in the forthcoming paper.
Let k be a field of characteristic p>0. A theorem of de Jong shows that morphisms of modules over W(k)[[t]] with Frobenius and connection structure descend from the completion of W(k)((t)). A careful reading of de Jong's proof suggests the possibility that an analogous theorem holds for modules with only a Frobenius structure. We show that this analogue holds in one weak formulation and fails in a second stronger formulation.
We study here the relative cohomology and the Gauss-Manin connections associated to an isolated singularity of a function on a manifold with boundary, i.e. with a fixed hyperplane section. We prove several relative analogs of classical theorems obtained mainly by E. Brieskorn and B. Malgrange, concerning the properties of the Gauss-Manin connection as well as its relations with the Picard-Lefschetz monodromy and the asymptotics of integrals of holomorphic forms along the vanishing cycles. Finally, we give an application in isochore deformation theory, i.e. the deformation theory of boundary si…
We construct Frobenius structures of "dual type" on the moduli space of ramified coverings of $\mathbb{P}^1$ with given ramification type over two points, generalizing a construction of Dubrovin. A complete hierarchy of hydrodynamic type is obtained from the corresponding deformed flat connection. This provides a suitable framework for the Whitham theory of an enlarged class of integrable hierarchies; we treat as examples the q-deformed Gelfand-Dickey hierarchy and the sine-Gordon equation, and compute the corresponding solutions of the WDVV equations.
Frobenius manifold structures on the spaces of abelian integrals were constructed by I. Krichever. We use D-modules, deformation theory, and homological algebra to give a coordinate-free description of these structures. It turns out that the tangent sheaf multiplication has a cohomological origin, while the Levi-Civita connection is related to 1-dimensional isomonodromic deformations.
It was shown in \cite{DVV} for $2d$ topological Conformal field theory (TCFT) \cite{EY,W} and more recently in \cite{BSZ}-\cite{BB2} for the non-critical String theory \cite{P}-\cite{BAlZ} that a number of models of these two types can be exactly solved using their connection with the Frobenius manifold (FM) structure introduced by Dubrovin\cite{Dub}. More precisely these models are connected with a special case of FMs, so called Saito Frobenius manifolds (SFM)\cite{Saito} (originally called Flat structure together with the Flat coordinate system), which arise on the space of the versal deform…
A meromorphic connection on the complex projective line induces formal connections at each singular point, and these formal connections constitute the local behavior at the singularities. In this primarily expository paper, we discuss the extent to which specified local behavior at singular points determines the global connection. In particular, given a finite set of points and a collection of ``formal types'' at these points, does there exist a moduli space of meromorphic connections with this local behavior, and if so, when is this moduli space nonempty or a singleton? In this paper, we disc…
Let A be a commutative k-algebra, where k is an algebraically closed field of characteristic 0, and let M be an A-module. We consider the following question: Under what conditions on A and M is it possible to find a connection on M? We consider maximal Cohen-Macaulay (MCM) modules over complete CM algebras that are isolated singularities, and usually assume that the singularities have finite CM representation type. It is known that over a simple singularity of dimension at most two, any MCM module admits an integrable connection. We prove that over a simple singularity of dimension at least th…
In this paper, we explicitly prove that statistical manifolds, related to exponential families and with flat structure connection have a Frobenius manifold structure. This latter object, at the interplay of beautiful interactions between topology and quantum field theory, raises natural questions, concerning the existence of Gromov--Witten invariants for those statistical manifolds. We prove that an analog of Gromov--Witten invariants for those statistical manifolds (GWS) exists. Similarly to its original version, these new invariants have a geometric interpretation concerning intersection poi…
