We extend in this paper the characterisation of a separable nuclear \cst-algebra given by Kirchberg proving that given a unital separable continuous field of nuclear C*-algebras A over a compact metrizable space X, the C(X)-algebra A is isomorphic to a unital C(X)-subalgebra of the trivial continuous field C(X;O_2), image of C(X;O_2) by a norm one projection.
In this paper, we show that a completely positive linear map is weakly nuclear if and only if its complexification is weakly nuclear. It is shown that a real $C^*$-algebra is exact if and only if its complexification is exact and similar case is provided for the quasidiaginality.
We prove that Z-stable, simple, separable, nuclear, non-unital C*-algebras have nuclear dimension at most 1. This completes the equivalence between finite nuclear dimension and Z-stability for simple, separable, nuclear, non-elementary C*-algebras.
We obtain an improved upper bound for the nuclear dimension of extensions of $\mathcal{O}_\infty$-stable $\rm{C}^*$-algebras. In particular, we prove that the nuclear dimension of a full extension of an $\mathcal{O}_\infty$-stable $\rm{C}^*$-algebra by a stable AF algebra is one.
We give two characterizations of tracially nuclear C*-algebras. The first is that the finite summand of the second dual is hyperfinite. The second is in terms of a variant of the weak* uniqueness property. The necessary condition holds for all tracially nuclear C*-algebras. When the algebra is separable, we prove the sufficiency.
We exhibit examples of simple separable nuclear C*-algebras, along with actions of the circle group and outer actions of the integers, which are not equivariantly isomorphic to their opposite algebras. In fact, the fixed point subalgebras are not isomorphic to their opposites. The C*-algebras we exhibit are well behaved from the perspective of structure and classification of nuclear C*-algebras: they are unital C*-algebras in the UCT class, with finite nuclear dimension. One is an AH-algebra with unique tracial state and absorbs the CAR algebra tensorially. The other is a Kirchberg algebra.
For any unital separable simple infinite-dimensional nuclear C*-algebra with finitely many extremal traces, we prove that Z-absorption, strict comparison, and property (SI) are equivalent. We also show that any unital separable simple nuclear C*-algebra with tracial rank zero is approximately divisible, and hence is Z-absorbing.
We show that every nuclear $\mathcal O_\infty$-stable *-homomorphism with a separable exact domain has nuclear dimension at most 1. In particular separable, nuclear, $\mathcal O_\infty$-stable C*-algebras have nuclear dimension 1. We also characterise when $\mathcal O_\infty$-stable C*-algebras have finite decomposition rank in terms of quasidiagonality and primitive-ideal structure, and determine when full $\mathcal O_2$-stable *-homomorphisms have nuclear dimension 0.
We give a partial answer to the question for the precise value of the nuclear dimension of UCT-Kirchberg algebras raised by W. Winter and J. Zacharias. It is shown that every Kirchberg algebra in the UCT-class with torsion free $K_1$-group has nuclear dimension 1.
The class of simple separable KK-contractible (KK-equivalent to $\{0\}$) C*-algebras which have finite nuclear dimension is shown to classified by the Elliott invariant. In particular, the class of C*-algebras $A\otimes \mathcal W$ is classifiable, where $A$ is a simple separable C*-algebra with finite nuclear dimension and $\mathcal W$ is the simple inductive limit of Razak algebras with unique trace, which is bounded.
We show that nuclear C*-algebras have a refined version of the completely positive approximation property, in which the maps that approximately factorize through finite dimensional algebras are convex combinations of order zero maps. We use this to show that a separable nuclear C*-algebra A which is closely contained in a C*-algebra B embeds into B.
We prove the title by constructing 2-colourable completely positive approximations for the Toeplitz algebra. Besides results about nuclear dimension and completely positive contractive order zero maps, our argument involves projectivity of the cone over a finite dimensional C*-algebra and Lin's theorem on almost normal matrices.
In this paper, we show that if E is a Fell bundle over an amenable étale locally compact Hausdorff groupoid such that every fiber on the unit space is nuclear, then $C?^*r(E)$ is also nuclear. In order to show this result, we introduce (minimal) tensor products of Fell bundles with fixed $C^*$-algebras.

We compute the nuclear dimension of separable, simple, unital, nuclear, Z-stable C*-algebras. This makes classification accessible from Z-stability and in particular brings large classes of C*-algebras associated to free and minimal actions of amenable groups on finite dimensional spaces within the scope of the Elliott classification programme.
We prove that faithful traces on separable and nuclear C*-algebras in the UCT class are quasidiagonal. This has a number of consequences. Firstly, by results of many hands, the classification of unital, separable, simple and nuclear C*-algebras of finite nuclear dimension which satisfy the UCT is now complete. We review the notion of nuclear dimension for C*-algebras introduced by Winter and Zacharias. We explain why it is a non-commutative version of topological dimension. After presenting several examples, we give a brief overview of the state of the art.
We investigate the interplay of the following regularity properties for non-simple C*-algebras: finite nuclear dimension, Z-stability, and algebraic regularity in the Cuntz semigroup. We show that finite nuclear dimension implies algebraic regularity in the Cuntz semigroup, provided that known type I obstructions are avoided. We demonstrate how finite nuclear dimension can be used to study the structure of the central sequence algebra, by factorizing the identity map on the central sequence algebra, in a manner resembling the factorization arising in the definition of nuclear dimension. We show that separable, nuclear and strongly purely infinite C*-algebras have finite nuclear dimension. In fact, the value is at most three. This exploits a deep structural result of Kirchberg and Rørdam on strongly purely infinite C*-algebras that are homotopic to zero in an ideal-system preserving way.
I give an overview of recent developments in the structure and classification theory of separable, simple, nuclear C*-algebras. I will in particular focus on the role of quasidiagonality and amenability for classification, and on the regularity conjecture and its interplay with internal and external approximation properties.
Let A be a unital separable simple infinite-dimensional nuclear C*-algebra with at least one tracial state. We prove that if the trace space of A has compact finite-dimensional extreme boundary then there exist unital embeddings of matrix algebras into a certain central sequence algebra of A which is determined by the uniform topology on the trace space. As an application, it is shown that if furthermore A has strict comparison then A absorbs the Jiang-Su algebra tensorially.
Consider a graph C*-algebra C*(E) with a purely infinite ideal I (possibly all of C*(E)) such that I has only finitely many ideals and C*(E)/I is approximately finite dimensional. We prove that the nuclear dimension of C*(E) is 1. If I has infinitely many ideals, then the nuclear dimension of C*(E) is either 1 or 2.
Kadison and Kastler introduced a natural metric on the collection of all C*-subalgebras of the bounded operators on a separable Hilbert space. They conjectured that sufficiently close algebras are unitarily conjugate. We establish this conjecture when one algebra is separable and nuclear. We also consider one-sided versions of these notions, and we obtain embeddings from certain near inclusions involving separable nuclear C*-algebras. Let $P \subset A$ be an inclusion of separable unital C*-algebras with finite Watatani index. Suppose that $E \colon A \rightarrow P$ has the Rokhlin property, that is, there is a projection $e \in A' \cap A^\infty$ such that $E^\infty(e) = ({\rm Index}E)^{-1}1$. We show that if $A$ has nuclear dimension $n$, then $P$ has nuclear dimension less than or equal to $n$. In particular, if an action $α$ of a finite group $G$ on $A$ has the Rokhlin property, then the nuclear dimension of the crossed product algebra $A \rtimes_αG$ is less than or equal to that of $A$.
We study Z-actions on unital simple separable stably finite C*-algebras of finite nuclear dimension. Assuming that the extreme boundary of the trace space is compact and finite dimensional, and that the induced action on the trace space is trivial, we show that strongly outer Z-actions have finite Rokhlin dimension in the sense of Hirshberg, Winter and Zacharias.
We prove that every Kirchberg algebra in the UCT class has nuclear dimension 1. We first show that Kirchberg 2-graph algebras with trivial $K_0$ and finite $K_1$ have nuclear dimension 1 by adapting a technique developed by Winter and Zacharias for Cuntz algebras. We then prove that every Kirchberg algebra in the UCT class is a direct limit of 2-graph algebras to obtain our main theorem.
We show that if X is a finite dimensional locally compact Hausdorff space, then the crossed product of C_0(X) by any automorphism has finite nuclear dimension. This generalizes previous results, in which the automorphism was required to be free. As an application, we show that group C*-algebras of certain non-nilpotent groups have finite nuclear dimension.
The problem of expressing a selfadjoint element that is zero on every bounded trace as a finite sum (or a limit of sums) of commutators is investigated in the setting of C*-algebras of finite nuclear dimension. Upper bounds -- in terms of the nuclear dimension of the C*-algebra -- are given for the number of commutators needed in these sums. Let $G$ be a countable discrete amenable group, ${\cal M}$ a McDuff factor von Neumann algebra, and $A$ a separable nuclear weakly dense C$^*$-subalgebra of ${\cal M}$. We show that if two centrally free actions of $G$ on ${\cal M}$ differ up to approximately inner automorphisms then they are outer conjugate by an approximately inner automorphism, in the operator norm topology, which makes $A$ invariant. We show that group C*-algebras of finitely generated, nilpotent groups have finite nuclear dimension. It then follows, from a string of deep results, that the C*-algebra $A$ generated by an irreducible representation of such a group has decomposition rank at most 3. If, in addition, $A$ satisfies the universal coefficient theorem, another string of deep results shows it is classifiable by its Elliott invariant and is approximately subhomogeneous. Simple, separable, unital, monotracial and nuclear C$^*$-algebras are shown to have finite nuclear dimension whenever they absorb the Jiang-Su algebra $\mathcal{Z}$ tensorially. This completes the proof of the Toms-Winter conjecture in the unique trace case.
It is shown that if a C*-algebra has nuclear dimension $n$ then its Cuntz semigroup has the property of $n$-comparison. We compute Picard groups of several nuclear and non-nuclear simple stably projectionless C*-algebras. In particular, the Picard group of Razak-Jacelon algebra W_2 is isomorphic to a semidirect product of Out(W_2) with R_+^\times. We introduce the concept of finitely coloured equivalence for unital *-homomorphisms between C*-algebras, for which unitary equivalence is the 1-coloured case. We use this notion to classify *-homomorphisms from separable, unital, nuclear C*-algebras into ultrapowers of simple, unital, nuclear, Z-stable C*-algebras with compact extremal trace space up to 2-coloured equivalence by their behaviour on traces; this is based on a 1-coloured classification theorem for certain order zero maps, also in terms of tracial data. We provide examples of ambient nuclear C*-algebras of non-nuclear C*-algebras with no proper intermediate C*-algebras. In particular this gives the first examples of minimal ambient nuclear C*-algebras of non-nuclear C*-algebras. For this purpose, we study generic Cantor systems of infinite free product groups.
We study the matricial field (MF) property for certain reduced crossed product C*-algebras and their traces. Using classification techniques and induced K-theoretic dynamics, we show that reduced crossed products of ASH-algebras of real rank zero by free groups are MF if and only if they are stably finite. We also examine traces on these crossed products and show they always admit certain finite dimensional approximation properties. We prove that von Neumann algebras and separable nuclear $C^*$-algebras are stable for the Banach-Mazur cb-distance. A technical step is to show that unital almost completely isometric maps between $C^*$-algebras are almost multiplicative and almost selfadjoint. Also as an intermediate result, we compare the Banach-Mazur cb-distance and the Kadison-Kastler distance. Finally, we show that if two $C^*$-algebras are close enough for the cb-distance, then they have at most the same length.
We define continuous C*-algebras over a topological space X and establish some basic results. If X is a locally compact Hausdorff space, continuous C*-algebras over X are equivalent to ordinary continuous C_0(X)-algebras. The main purpose of our study is to prove that every continuous, full, separable, nuclear C*-algebra over X is KK(X)-equivalent to a stable Kirchberg algebra over X.
