We give two formulae which express the Alexander polynomial $Δ^C$ of several variables of a plane curve singularity $C$ in terms of the ring ${\cal O}_{C}$ of germs of analytic functions on the curve. One of them expresses $Δ^C$ in terms of dimensions of some factorspaces corresponding to a (multi-indexed) filtration on the ring ${\cal O}_{C}$. The other one gives the coefficients of the Alexander polynomial $Δ^C$ as Euler characteristics of some explicitly described spaces (complements to arrangements of projective hyperplanes).
We discuss a notion of integration with respect to the Euler characteristic in the projectivization $¶{\cal O}_{\C^n,0}$ of the ring ${\cal O}_{\C^n,0}$ of germs of functions on $C^n$ and show that the Alexander polynomial and the zeta-function of a plane curve singularity can be expressed as certain integrals over $¶{\cal O}_{\C^2,0}$ with respect to the Euler characteristic.

We consider the Alexander polynomial of a plane algebraic curve twisted by a linear representation. We show that it divides the product of the polynomials of the singularity links, for unitary representations. Moreover, their quotient is given by the determinant of its Blanchfield intersection form. Specializing in the classical case, this gives a geometrical interpretation of Libgober's divisibility Theorem. We calculate twisted polynomials for some algebraic curves and show how they can detect Zariski pairs of equivalent Alexander polynomials and that they are sensitive to nodal degeneration…
In this paper, we compute Alexander polynomials of a torus curve C of type (2, 5), C : f(x, y) = f_2(x, y)^5 + f_5(x, y)^2 = 0, under the assumption that the origin O is the unique inner singularity and f2 = 0 is an irreducible conic. We show that the Alexander polynomial remains the same with that of a generic torus curve as long as C is irreducible.
We study the topology of the boundary manifold of a line arrangement in CP^2, with emphasis on the fundamental group G and associated invariants. We determine the Alexander polynomial Delta(G), and more generally, the twisted Alexander polynomial associated to the abelianization of G and an arbitrary complex representation. We give an explicit description of the unit ball in the Alexander norm, and use it to analyze certain Bieri-Neumann-Strebel invariants of G. From the Alexander polynomial, we also obtain a complete description of the first characteristic variety of G. Comparing this with th…
We discuss some formulae which express the Alexander polynomial (and thus the zeta-function of the classical monodromy transformation) of a plane curve singularity in terms of the ring of functions on the curve. One of them describes the coefficients of the Alexander polynomial or of zeta-function of the monodromy transformation as Euler characteristics of some explicitly constructed spaces. For the Alexander polynomial these spaces are complements to arrangements of projective hyperplanes in projective spaces. For the zeta-function they are disjoint unions of such spaces. Under the influence …
Earlier it was described to which extent the Alexander polynomial in several variables of an algebraic link in the Poincaré sphere determines the topology of the link. It was shown that, except some explicitly described cases, the Alexander polynomial of an algebraic link determines the combinatorial type of the minimal resolution of the curve and therefore the topology of the corresponding link. The Alexander polynomial of an algebraic link in the Poincaré sphere coincides with the Poincaré series of the corresponding set of curve valuations. The latter one can be defined as an integral over …
We give the explicit algorithm computing the motivic generalization of the Poincare series of the plane curve singularity introduced by A. Campillo, F. Delgado and S. Gusein-Zade. It is done in terms of the embedded resolution of the curve. The result is a rational function depending of the parameter q, at q=1 it coincides with the Alexander polynomial of the corresponding link. For irreducible curves we relate this invariant to the Heegard-Floer knot homologies constructed by P. Ozsvath and Z. Szabo. Many explicit examples are considered.
To a plane curve singularity one associates a multi-index filtration on the ring of germs of functions of two variables defined by the orders of a function on irreducible components of the curve. The Poincare series of this filtration turnes out to coincide with the Alexander polynomial of the curve germ. For a finite set of divisorial valuations on the ring corresponding to some components of the exceptional divisor of a modification of the plane, in a previous paper there was obtained a formula for the Poincare series of the corresponding multi-index filtration similar to the one associated …
The paper reviews recent developments in the study of Alexander invariants of quasi-projective manifolds using methods of singularity theory. Several results in topology of the complements to singular plane curves and hypersurfaces in projective space extended to the case of curves on simply connected smooth projective surfaces.
Let $V$ be a degree $d$, reduced hypersurface in $\mathbb{CP}^{n+1}$, $n \geq 1$, and fix a generic hyperplane, $H$. Denote by $\mathcal{U}$ the (affine) hypersurface complement, $\mathbb{CP}^{n+1}- V \cup H$, and let $\mathcal{U}^c$ be the infinite cyclic covering of $\mathcal{U}$ corresponding to the kernel of the linking number homomorphism. Using intersection homology theory, we give a new construction of the Alexander modules $H_i(\mathcal{U}^c;\mathbb{Q})$ of the hypersurface complement and show that, if $i \leq n$, these are torsion over the ring of rational Laurent polynomials. We also…
We show for an affine variety $X$, the derived category of quasi-coherent $D$-modules is equivalent to the category of DG modules over an explicit DG algebra, whose zeroth cohomology is the ring of Grothendieck differential operators $\operatorname{Diff}(X)$. When the variety is cuspidal, we show that this is just the usual ring $\operatorname{Diff}(X)$, and the equivalence is the abelian equivalence constructed by Ben-Zvi and Nevins. We compute the cohomology algebra and its natural modules in the hypersurface, curve and isolated quotient singularity cases. We identify cases where a $D$-modul…
For any non-degenerate, quasi-homogeneous hypersurface singularity W and an admissible group of diagonal symmetries G, Fan, Jarvis, and Ruan have constructed a cohomological field theory which is a candidate for the mathematical structure behind the Landau-Ginzburg A-model. When using the orbifold Milnor ring of a singularity W as a B-model, and the Frobenius algebra H_{W,G} constructed by Fan, Jarvis, and Ruan, as an A-model, the following conjecture is obtained: For a quasi-homogeneous singularity W and a group G of symmetries of W, there is a dual singularity W^T such that the orbifold A-mo…
In this paper, we will prove that the quantum ring of the quasi-homogeneous polynomial $X^{p}+XY^{q}(p\ge 2,q>1)$ with some admissible symmetry group $G$ defined by Fan-Jarvis-Ruan-Witten theory is isomorphic to the Milnor ring of its mirror dual polynomial $X^{p}Y+Y^{q}$. We will construct an concrete isomorphism between them. The construction is a little bit different in case $(p-1,q)=1$ and case $(p-1,q)=d>1$. Some other problems including the correspondence between the pairings of both Frobenius algebras has also been discussed.
We construct explicitly regular sequences in the semigroup ring $R=\CC[K]$ of lattice points of the graded cone $K$. We conjecture that the quotients of $R$ by these sequences describe locally string-theoretic cohomology of a toroidal singularity associated to $K$. As a byproduct, we give an elementary proof of the result of Hochster that semigroup rings of rational polyhedral cones are Cohen-Macaulay.
In this paper we establish a precise comparison between vanishing cycles and the singularity category of Landau-Ginzburg models over a complete discrete valuation ring. By using noncommutative motives, we first construct a motivic $\ell$-adic realization functor for dg-categories. Our main result, then asserts that, given a Landau-Ginzburg model over a complete discrete valuation ring with potential induced by a uniformizer, the $\ell$-adic realization of its singularity category is given by the inertia-invariant part of vanishing cohomology. We also prove a functorial and $\infty$-categorical…
This paper deals with the study of the behaviour of the value semigroup of a curve singularity define over a global field reduced modulo a maximal ideal. We also define a global zeta function of the curve by means of motivic integration over a suitable ring of adéles, whose reduction modulo a maximal ideal will coincide with some already known zeta functions of the singularity.
We introduce a geometric realization of noncommutative singularity resolutions. To do this, we first present a new conjectural method of obtaining conventional resolutions using coordinate rings of matrix-valued functions. We verify this conjecture for all cyclic quotient surface singularities, the Kleinian D_n and E_6 surface singularities, the conifold singularity, and a non-isolated singularity, using appropriate quiver algebras. This conjecture provides a possible new generalization of the classical McKay correspondence. Then, using symplectic reduction within these rings, we obtain new, n…
This paper gives upper bounds for the dimension of the singularity category of a Cohen-Macaulay local ring with an isolated singularity. One of them recovers an upper bound given by Ballard, Favero and Katzarkov in the case of a hypersurface.
Given a polynomial $W$ with an isolated singularity, we can consider the Jacobian ring as an invariant of the singularity. If in addition we have a group action on the polynomial ring with $W$ fixed, we are led to consider the twisted Jacobian ring which reflects the equivariant structure as well. Our main result is to show that the twisted Jacobian ring is isomorphic to an endomorphism ring of the "twisted diagonal" matrix factorization. As an application, we suggest a way to investigate Floer theory of Lagrangian submanifolds which represent homological mirror functors.
Hironaka's characteristic polyhedron is an important combinatorial object reflecting the local nature of a singularity. We prove that it can be determined without passing to the completion if the local ring is a G-ring and if additionally either it is Henselian, or a certain polynomiality condition $ (\mathrm{Pol}) $ holds, or a mild condition $(*) $ on the singularity holds. For example, the latter is fulfilled if the residue field is perfect.
We develop a method of finding a Cox ring of a crepant resolution of a quotient singularity with a torus action and apply it to examples of symplectic quotient singularities in dimension 4. In addition we obtain a bound on the degrees of homogeneous generators of the Cox ring in a more general setup, based on the multigraded Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity and Kawamata-Viehweg vanishing.
Schubert calculus has been in the intersection of several fast developing areas of mathematics for a long time. Originally invented as the description of the cohomology of homogeneous spaces it has to be redesigned when applied to other generalized cohomology theories such as the equivariant, the quantum cohomology, K-theory, and cobordism. All this cohomology theories are different deformations of the ordinary cohomology. In this note we show that there is in some sense the universal deformation of Schubert calculus which produces the above mentioned by specialization of the appropriate param…
In a previous paper, there was defined a multi-index filtration on the ring of functions on a hypersurface singularity corresponding to its Newton diagram generalizing (for a curve singularity) the divisorial one. Its Poincaré series was computed for plane curve singularities non-degenerate with respect to their Newton diagrams. Here we use another technique to compute the Poincaré series for plane curve singularities without the assumption that they are non-degenerate with respect to their Newton diagrams. We show that the Poincaré series only depends on the Newton diagram and not on the defi…
The Hikita conjecture relates the coordinate ring of a conical symplectic singularity to the cohomology ring of a symplectic resolution of the dual conical symplectic singularity. We formulate a quantum version of this conjecture, which relates the quantized coordinate ring of the first variety to the quantum cohomology of a symplectic resolution of the dual variety. We prove this conjecture for hypertoric varieties and for the Springer resolution. Our paper includes an appendix, written by Ben Webster, which studies highest weights for quantizations of symplectic resolutions with isolated tor…
We use our extension of the Noether-Lefschetz theorem to describe generators of the class groups at the local rings of singularities of very general hypersurfaces containing a fixed base locus. We give several applications, including (1) every subgroup of the class group of the completed local ring of a rational double point arises as the class group of such a singularity on a surface in complex projective 3-space and (2) every complete local ring arising from a normal hypersurface singularity over the complex numbers is the completion of a unique factorization domain of essentially finite typ…
In previous papers, there were computed the Poincare series of some (multi-index) filtrations on the ring of germs of functions on a rational surface singularity. These Poincare series were written as the integer parts of certain fractional power series, an interpretation of whom was not given. Here we show that, up to a simple change of variables, these fractional power series are specializations of the equivariant Poincare series for filtrations on the ring of germs of functions on the universal abelian cover of the surface singularity. We compute these equivariant Poincare series.
