It is known that a two-dimensional $F$-rational ring has a rational singularity. However a two-dimensional ring with a rational singularity is not $F$-rational in general. In this paper, we investigate $F$-rationality of a two-dimensional graded ring with a rational singularity in terms of the multiplicity. Moreover, we determine when a two-dimensional graded ring with a rational singularity and a small multiplicity is $F$-rational.
We show that the Hilbert-Kunz multiplicity is a rational number for an R_+-primary homogeneous ideal I=(f_1, ..., f_n) in a two-dimensional graded domain R of finite type over an algebraically closed field of positive characteristic. Moreover we give a formula for the Hilbert-Kunz multiplicity in terms of certain rational numbers coming from the strong Harder-Narasimhan filtration of the syzygy bundle Syz(f_1, . . ., f_n) on the projective curve Y = Proj R.
We show that the subgraph of the concave transform of a multiplicative filtration on a section ring is the Newton--Okounkov body of a certain semigroup, and if the filtration is induced by a divisorial valuation, then the associated graded algebra is the algebra of sections of a concrete line bundle in higher dimension. We use this description to give a rationality criterion for certain Seshadri constants. Along the way we introduce Newton--Okounkov bodies of abstract graded semigroups and determine conditions for their slices to be Newton--Okounkov bodies of subsemigroups.
We investigate multi-graded Gorenstein semigroup algebras associated with an infinite family of reflexive lattice simplices. For each of these algebras, we prove that their multigraded Poincaré series is rational. Our method of proof is to produce for each algebra an explicit minimal free resolution of the ground field, in which the resolution reflects the recursive structure encoded in the denominator of the finely-graded Poincaré series. Using this resolution, we show that these algebras are not Koszul, and therefore rationality is non-trivial. Our results demonstrate how interactions betwee…
It is a fundamental result in commutative algebra and invariant theory that a finitely generated graded module over a commutative finitely generated graded algebra has rational Hilbert series, and consequently the Hilbert series of the algebra of polynomial invariants of a group of linear transformations is rational, whenever this algebra is finitely generated. This basic principle is applied here to prove rationality of Hilbert series of algebras of invariants that are neither commutative nor finitely generated. Our main focus is on linear groups acting on certain factor algebras of the tenso…
In 2012, Ananthnarayan, Avramov and Moore gave a new construction of Gorenstein rings from two Gorenstein local rings, called their connected sum. In this article, we investigate conditions on the associated graded ring of a Gorenstein Artin local ring Q, which force it to be a connected sum over its residue field. In particular, we recover some results regarding short, and stretched, Gorenstein Artin rings. Finally, using these decompositions, we obtain results about the rationality of the Poincare series of Q.
We construct explicitly regular sequences in the semigroup ring $R=\CC[K]$ of lattice points of the graded cone $K$. We conjecture that the quotients of $R$ by these sequences describe locally string-theoretic cohomology of a toroidal singularity associated to $K$. As a byproduct, we give an elementary proof of the result of Hochster that semigroup rings of rational polyhedral cones are Cohen-Macaulay.
This study examines the finite $F$-representation type (abbr. FFRT) property of a two-dimensional normal graded ring $R$ in characteristic $p>0$, using notions from the theory of algebraic stacks. Given a graded ring $R$, we consider an orbifold curve $\mathfrak C$, which is a root stack over the smooth curve $C=\text{Proj} R$, such that $R$ is the section ring associated with a line bundle $L$ on $\mathfrak C$. The FFRT property of $R$ is then rephrased with respect to the Frobenius push-forwards $F^e_*(L^i)$ on the orbifold curve $\mathfrak C$. As a result, we see that if the singularity of …
In this paper we show a partial answer the a question of C. Huneke and G. Leuschke (2003): Let R be a standard graded Cohen-Macaulay ring of graded countable Cohen-Macaulay representation type, and assume that R has an isolated singularity. Is R then necessarily of graded finite Cohen-Macaulay representation type? In particular, this question has an affirmative answer for standard graded non-Gorenstein rings as well as for standard graded Gorenstein rings of minimal multiplicity. Along the way, we obtain a partial classification of graded Cohen-Macaulay rings of graded countable Cohen-Macaulay…
Let k be an algebraically closed field and A be a finitely generated, centrally finite, non- negatively graded (not necessarily commutative) k-algebra. In this note we construct a representation scheme for graded maximal Cohen-Macaulay A modules. Our main application asserts that when A is commutative with an isolated singularity, for a fixed multiplicity, there are only finitely many indecomposable rigid (i.e, with no nontrivial self-extensions) MCM modules up to shifting and isomorphism. We appeal to a result by Keller, Murfet, and Van den Bergh to prove a similar result for rings that are c…
The Jacobian algebra arising from a consistent dimer model is a bimodule $3$-Calabi-Yau algebra, and its center is a $3$-dimensional Gorenstein toric singularity. A perfect matching of a dimer model gives the degree making the Jacobian algebra $\mathbb{Z}$-graded. It is known that if the degree zero part of such an algebra is finite dimensional, then it is a $2$-representation infinite algebra which is a generalization of a representation infinite hereditary algebra. Internal perfect matchings, which correspond to toric exceptional divisors on a crepant resolution of a $3$-dimensional Gorenste…
For a $Z$-graded Gorenstein ring $R$, we study the stable category $CM^ZR$ of $Z$-graded maximal Cohen-Macaulay $R$-modules, which is canonically triangle equivalent to the singularity category of Buchweitz and Orlov. Its thick subcategory given as the stable category of $CM_0^ZR$ is central in representation theory since it enjoys Auslander-Reiten-Serre duality and has almost split triangles. In the case $dim R=1$, we prove that the stable category of $CM_0^ZR$ always admits a silting object, and that it admits a tilting object if and only if either $R$ is regular or the $a$-invariant of $R$ …

Consider a rational projective plane curve C parameterized by three homogeneous forms h1,h2,h3 of the same degree d in the polynomial ring R=k[x,y] over the field k. Extracting a common factor, we may harmlessly assume that the ideal I=(h1,h2,h3)R has height two. Let phi be a homogeneous minimal Hilbert-Burch matrix for the row vector [h1,h2,h3]. So, phi is a 3 by 2 matrix of homogeneous forms from R; the entries in column m have degree dm, with d1 \le d2 and d1+d2=d. The Rees algebra $cal R$ of I is the subring k[h1t,h2t,h3t] of the polynomial ring k[t]. The bi-projective spectrum of $cal R$ …
