A model operator $H$ corresponding to the energy operator of a system with non-conserved number $n\leq 3$ of particles is considered. The precise location and structure of the essential spectrum of $H$ is described. The existence of infinitely many eigenvalues below the bottom of the essential spectrum of $H$ is proved if the generalized Friedrichs model has a virtual level at the bottom of the essential spectrum and for the number $N(z)$ of eigenvalues below $z<0$ an asymptotics established. The finiteness of eigenvalues of $H$ below the bottom of the essential spectrum is proved if the generalized Friedrichs model has a zero eigenvalue at the bottom of its essential spectrum.
A new kind of symmetry behaviour introduced as partialPT-symmetry is investigated in a typical Fock space setting understood as a Reproducing Kernel Hilbert Space (RKHS). The same kind of symmetry is understood for a nonhermitian Bose-Hubbard type Hamiltonian involving two boson operators as well as its eigenstates. The phenomenon of symmetry breaking has also been considered
A Hamiltonian (model operator) $H$ associated to a quantum system describing three particles in interaction, without conservation of the number of particles, is considered. The Faddeev type system of equations for eigenvectors of $H$ is constructed. The essential spectrum of $H$ is described by the spectrum of the channel operator.
A model operator $H$ associated with the energy operator of a system describing three particles in interaction, without conservation of the number of particles, is considered. The precise location and structure of the essential spectrum of $H$ is described. The existence of infinitely many eigenvalues below the bottom of the essential spectrum of $H$ is proved for the case where an associated generalized Friedrichs model has a resonance at the bottom of its essential spectrum. An asymptotics for the number $N(z)$ of eigenvalues below the bottom of the essential spectrum is also established. Th…
We consider the Schrodinger operator with a constant magnetic field in the exterior of a compact domain on the plane. The spectrum of this operator consists of clusters of eigenvalues around the Landau levels. We discuss the rate of accumulation of eigenvalues in a fixed cluster.
We prove analytic-type estimates in weighted Sobolev spaces on the eigenfunctions of a class of elliptic and nonlinear eigenvalue problems with singular potentials, which includes the Hartree-Fock equations. Going beyond classical results on the analyticity of the wavefunctions away from the nuclei, we prove weighted estimates locally at each singular point, with precise control of the derivatives of all orders. Our estimates have far-reaching consequences for the approximation of the eigenfunctions of the problems considered, and they can be used to prove a priori estimates on the numerical s…
We study the Schroedinger operator with a constant magnetic field in the exterior of a compact domain in $\mathbb{R}^{2d}$, $d\geq 1$. The spectrum of this operator consists of clusters of eigenvalues around the Landau levels. We give asymptotic formulas for the rate of accumulation of eigenvalues in these clusters. When the compact is a Reinhart domain we are able to show a more precise asymptotic formula.
We introduce the Hamiltonian dynamics with the Hartree-Fock energy in new {\it wave-matrix} picture. Roughly speaking, the wave matrix is defined as the square root of the density matrix. The corresponding Hamiltonian equations are equivalent to an operator anticommutation equation. This wave-matrix picture essentially agrees with the density matrix formalism. Its main advantage is that it is Hamiltonian and allows an extension to infinite particle systems like crystals. Our main result is the existence of the global "reduced" wave-matrix dynamics for finite-particle molecular systems, and the…
The method of constrained Hamiltonian systems can be used to reduce Fock modules. It is applied to the Virasoro algebra, where a possibly new realization is found.
A method for computing lower bounds to eigenvalues of sums of lower semibounded self-adjoint operators is presented. We apply the method to one-electron Hamiltonians. To improve the lower bounds we consider symmetry of molecules and use Temple's inequality. These methods would be useful in estimating eigenvalues of electronic Hamiltonians needed for studies of properties of molecules.
Under minimal regularity conditions on the photon dispersion and the coupling function, we prove that the spin-boson model with two massless photons in $\mathbb{R}^d$ cannot have more than two bound state energies whenever the coupling strength is sufficiently strong.
We consider functional Schrödinger equations associated with a wide class of Hamiltonians in all Fock representations of the bosonic canonical commutation relations, in particular the Cook-Fock, Friedrichs-Fock, and Bargmann-Fock models. An infinite-dimensional symbolic calculus allows us to prove the convergence of the corresponding Hamiltonian Feynman integrals for propagators of coherent states.
A model operator $H$ associated to a system describing four particles in interaction, without conservation of the number of particles, is considered. We describe the essential spectrum of $H$ by the spectrum of the channel operators and prove the Hunziker-van Winter-Zhislin (HWZ) theorem for the operator $H.$ We also give some variational principles for boundaries of the essential spectrum and interior eigenvalues.
We study two-dimensional eigenvalue ensembles close to certain types of singular points in the bulk of the droplet. We prove existence of a microscopic density which quickly approaches the classical equilibrium density, as the distance from the singularity increases beyond the microscopic scale. As a consequence we obtain asymptotics for the Bergman function of certain Fock-Sobolev spaces of entire functions.
In this paper, we investigate a system of quantum electrodynamics with cutoffs. The total Hamiltonian is defined on a tensor product of a fermion Fock space and a boson Fock. It is shown that, under spatially localized conditions and momentumregularity conditions, the total Hamiltonian has a ground state for all values of coupling constants. In particular, its multiplicity is finite.
We derive the Hamiltonian associated to a quantum stochastic flow by extending the Albeverio-Kurasov construction of self-adjoint extensions to finite rank perturbations of nonsemibounded operators to Fock space.
In the presence of the homogeneous electric field ${\bf E}$ and the homogeneous perpendicular magnetic field ${\bf B}$, the classical trajectory of a quantum particle on ${\mathbb R}^2$ moves with drift velocity $α$ which is perpendicular to the electric and magnetic fields. For such Hamiltonians the absence of the embedded eigenvalues of perturbed Hamiltonian has been conjectured. In this paper one proves this conjecture for the perturbations $V(x, y)$ which have sufficiently small support in direction of drift velocity.
We study permutation invariant oscillator algebras and their Fock space representations using three equivalent techniques, i.e. (i) a normally ordered expansion in creation and annihilation operators, (ii) the action of annihilation operators on monomial states in Fock space and (iii) Gram matrices of inner products in Fock space. We separately discuss permutation invariant algebras which possess hermitean number operators and permutation invariant algebras which possess non-hermitean number operators. The results of a general analysis are applied to the S_M extended Heisenberg algebra, underl…
We study the Hartree-Fock equation and the Hartree-Fock energy functional universally used in many-electron problems. We prove that the set of all critical values of the Hartree-Fock energy functional less than a constant smaller than the first energy threshold is finite. Since the Hartree-Fock equation which is the corresponding Euler-Lagrange equation is a system of nonlinear eigenvalue problems, the spectral theory for linear operators is not applicable. The present result is obtained establishing the finiteness of the critical values associated with orbital energies less than a negative co…
A new kind of symmetry called partial PT symmetry has been considered for non-hermitian quadratic boson operators obtained from a bi-orthogonal set of vectors in C2. The symmetry behaviour has been understood in Fock space considered as a Reproducing Kernel Hilbert Space(RKHS). The reality of eigenvalues and its connection to the possibility of the aforesaid symmetry (and symmetry breaking) are studied in terms of a deformation parameter responsible for nonhermiticity
In this paper, the bound state solution of the modified Klein-Fock-Gordon equation is obtained for the Hulthén plus ring-shaped lake potential by using the developed scheme to overcome the centrifugal part. The energy eigenvalues and corresponding radial and azimuthal wave functions are defined for any $l\neq0$ angular momentum case on the conditions that scalar potential is whether equal and nonequal to vector potential, the bound state solutions of the Klein-Fock-Gordon equation of the Hulthén plus ring-shaped like potential are obtained by Nikiforov-Uvarov (NU) and supersymmetric quantum me…
We prove the analog of the Cwickel-Lieb-Rosenblum estimation for the number of negative eigenvalues of a relativistic Hamiltonian with magnetic field $B\in C^\infty_{\rm{pol}}(\mathbb R^d)$ and an electric potential $V\in L^1_{\rm{loc}}(\mathbb R^d)$, $V_-\in L^d(\mathbb R^d)\cap L^{d/2}(\mathbb R^d)$. Compared to the nonrelativistic case, this estimation involves both norms of $V_-$ in $L^{d/2}(\mathbb R^d)$ and in $L^{d}(\mathbb R^d)$. A direct consequence is a Lieb-Thirring inequality for the sum of powers of the absolute values of the negative eigenvalues.
We consider the asymptotic behavior of the spectrum of the Landau Hamiltonian plus a rapidly decaying potential, as the magnetic field strength, $B$, tends to infinity. After a suitable rescaling, this becomes a semiclassical problem where the role of Planck's constant is played by $1/B$. The spectrum of the operator forms eigenvalue clusters. We obtain a Szegő limit theorem for the eigenvalues in the clusters as a suitable cluster index and $B$ tend to infinity with a fixed ratio $\calE$. The answer involves the averages of the potential over circles of radius $\sqrt{\calE/2}$ (circular Radon…
The powerful group theoretical formalism of potential algebras is extended to non-Hermitian Hamiltonians with real eigenvalues by complexifying so(2,1), thereby getting the complex algebra sl(2,\C) or $A_1$. This leads to new types of both PT-symmetric and non-PT-symmetric Hamiltonians.
By developing the method of multipliers, we establish sufficient conditions on the magnetic field and the complex, matrix-valued electric potential, which guarantee that the corresponding system of Schrödinger operators has no point spectrum. In particular, this allows us to prove analogous results for Pauli operators under the same electromagnetic conditions and, in turn, as a consequence of the supersymmetric structure, also for magnetic Dirac operators.
We introduce an abstract class of bosonic QFT Hamiltonians and study their spectral and scattering theories. These Hamiltonians are of the form $H=\d\G(ω)+ V$ acting on the bosonic Fock space $\G(\ch)$, where $ω$ is a massive one-particle Hamiltonian acting on $\ch$ and $V$ is a Wick polynomial $\Wick(w)$ for a kernel $w$ satisfying some decay properties at infinity. We describe the essential spectrum of $H$, prove a Mourre estimate outside a set of thresholds and prove the existence of asymptotic fields. Our main result is the {\em asymptotic completeness} of the scattering theory, which mean…
Potential algebras are extended from Hermitian to non-Hermitian Hamiltonians and shown to provide an elegant method for studying the transition from real to complex eigenvalues for a class of non-Hermitian Hamiltonians associated with the complex Lie algebra A$_1$.
Let $H_{0, D}$ (resp., $H_{0,N}$) be the Schroedinger operator in constant magnetic field on the half-plane with Dirichlet (resp., Neumann) boundary conditions, and let $H_\ell : = H_{0, \ell} - V$, $\ell =D,N$, where the scalar potential $V$ is non negative, bounded, does not vanish identically, and decays at infinity. We compare the distribution of the eigenvalues of $H_D$ and $H_N$ below the respective infima of the essential spectra. To this end, we construct effective Hamiltonians which govern the asymptotic behaviour of the discrete spectrum of $H_\ell$ near $\inf σ_{ess}(H_\ell) = \inf …
The effective reggeon field theory in zero transverse dimension ("the toy model") is studied. The transcendental equation for eigenvalues of the Hamiltonian of this theory is derived and solved numerically. The found eigenvalues are used for the calculation of the pomeron propagator.
We show that complex Lie algebras (in particular sl(2,C)) provide us with an elegant method for studying the transition from real to complex eigenvalues of a class of non-Hermitian Hamiltonians: complexified Scarf II, generalized Pöschl-Teller, and Morse. The characterizations of these Hamiltonians under the so-called pseudo-Hermiticity are also discussed.
In this paper, a non-trivial system governed by a continuum PT-symmetric Hamiltonian is discussed. We show that this Hamiltonian is iso-spectral to the simple harmonic oscillator. We find its eigenfunctions and the path in the complex plane along which these functions form an orthonormal set. We also find the hidden symmetry operator, ${\cal C}$, for this system. All calculations are performed analytically and without approximation.
Motivated by what one observes dealing with PT-symmetric quantum mechanics, we discuss what happens if a physical system is driven by a diagonalizable Hamiltonian with not all real eigenvalues. In particular, we consider the functional structure related to systems living in finite-dimensional Hilbert spaces, and we show that certain intertwining relations can be deduced also in this case if we introduce suitable antilinear operators. We also analyze a simple model, computing the transition probabilities in the broken and in the unbroken regime.
We study one-parametric perturbations of finite dimensional real Hamiltonians depending on two controls, and we show that generically in the space of Hamiltonians, conical intersections of eigenvalues can degenerate into semi-conical intersections of eigenvalues. Then, through the use of normal forms, we study the problem of ensemble controllability between the eigenstates of a generic Hamiltonian.
For neutral and positively charged atoms and molecules, we prove the existence of infinitely many Hartree-Fock critical points below the first energy threshold (that is, the lowest energy of the same system with one electron removed). This is the equivalent, in Hartree-Fock theory, of the famous Zhislin-Sigalov theorem which states the existence of infinitely many eigenvalues below the bottom of the essential spectrum of the $N$-particle linear Schr{ö}dinger operator. Our result improves a theorem of Lions in 1987 who already constructed infinitely many Hartree-Fock critical points, but with m…
Hamiltonian and Schrodinger evolution equations on finite-dimensional projective space are analyzed in detail. Hartree-Fock (HF) manifold is introduced as a submanifold of many electron projective space of states. Evolution equations, exact and linearized, on this manifold are studied. Comparison of matrices of linearized Schrodinger equations on many electron projective space and on the corresponding HF manifold reveals the appearance in the HF case a constraining matrix that involves matrix elements of many-electron Hamiltonian between HF state and double excited determinants. Character of d…

We define C*-algebras on a Fock space such that the Hamiltonians of quantum field models with positive mass are affiliated to them. We describe the quotient of such algebras with respect to the ideal of compact operators and deduce consequences in the spectral theory of these Hamiltonians: we compute their essential spectrum and give a systematic procedure for proving the Mourre estimate.
The non-Hermitian PT-symmetric quantum-mechanical Hamiltonian $H=p^2+x^2(ix)^ε$ has real, positive, and discrete eigenvalues for all $ε\geq 0$. These eigenvalues are analytic continuations of the harmonic-oscillator eigenvalues $E_n=2n+1$ (n=0, 1, 2, 3, ...) at $ε=0$. However, the harmonic oscillator also has negative eigenvalues $E_n=-2n-1$ (n=0, 1, 2, 3, ...), and one may ask whether it is equally possible to continue analytically from these eigenvalues. It is shown in this paper that for appropriate PT-symmetric boundary conditions the Hamiltonian $H=p^2+x^2(ix)^ε$ also has real and {\it ne…
The differential-equation eigenvalue problem associated with a recently-introduced Hamiltonian, whose eigenvalues correspond to the zeros of the Riemann zeta function, is analyzed using Fourier and WKB analysis. The Fourier analysis leads to a challenging open problem concerning the formulation of the eigenvalue problem in the momentum space. The WKB analysis gives the exact asymptotic behavior of the eigenfunction.
We present a large class of non-Hermitian non-PT-symmetric two-component Dirac Hamiltoninas with real energy spectra. These Hamiltonians are invariant under the combined action of "charge" conjugation (two-component transpose) and space-parity. Examples are given from the two subclasses of these systems having localized and/or continuum states with real energies.
We derive out a complete series expression of Hamiltonian eigenvalues without any approximation and cut in the general quantum systems based on Wang's formal framework \cite{wang1}. In particular, we then propose a calculating approach of eigenvalues of arbitrary Hamiltonian via solving an algebra equation satisfied by a kernal function, which involves the contributions from all order perturbations. In order to verify the validity of our expressions and reveal the power of our approach, we calculate the ground state energy of a quartic anharmonic oscillator and have obtained good enough result…
$\mathcal{PT}$-symmetry --- invariance with respect to combined space reflection $\mathcal{P}$ and time reversal $\mathcal{T}$ --- provides a weaker condition than (Dirac) Hermiticity for ensuring a real energy spectrum of a general non-Hermitian Hamiltonian. $\mathcal{PT}$-symmetric Hamiltonians therefore form an intermediate class between Hermitian and non-Hermitian Hamiltonians. In this work, we derive the conditions for $\mathcal{PT}$-symmetry in the context of electronic structure theory, and specifically, within the Hartree-Fock (HF) approximation. We show that the HF orbitals are symmet…
We apply the notion of asymptotic iteration method (AIM) to determine eigenvalues of the bosonic Hamiltonians that include a wide class of quantum optical models. We consider solutions of the Hamiltonians, which are even polynomials of the fourth order with the respect to Boson operators. We also demonstrate applicability of the method for obtaining eigenvalues of the simple Lie algebraic structures. Eigenvalues of the multi-boson Hamiltonians have been obtained by transforming in the form of the single boson Hamiltonian in the framework of AIM.
Despite its common use in quantum theory, the mathematical requirement of Dirac Hermiticity of a Hamiltonian is sufficient to guarantee the reality of energy eigenvalues but not necessary. By establishing three theorems, this paper gives physical conditions that are both necessary and sufficient. First, it is shown that if the secular equation is real, the Hamiltonian is necessarily PT symmetric. Second, if a linear operator C that obeys the two equations [C,H]=0 and C^2=1 is introduced, then the energy eigenvalues of a PT-symmetric Hamiltonian that is diagonalizable are real only if this C op…
We analyze a set of three PT-symmetric complex potentials, namely harmonic oscillator, generalized Poschl-Teller and Scarf II, all of which reveal a double series of energy levels along with the corresponding superpotential. Inspired by the fact that two superpotentials reside naturally in order-two parasupersymmetry (PSUSY) and second-derivative supersymmetry (SSUSY) schemes, we complexify their frameworks to successfully account for the three potentials.
We consider random Schrödinger operators with Dirichlet boundary conditions outside lattice approximations of a smooth Euclidean domain and study the behavior of its lowest-lying eigenvalues in the limit when the lattice spacing tends to zero. Under a suitable moment assumption on the random potential and regularity of the spatial dependence of its mean, we prove that the eigenvalues of the random operator converge to those of a deterministic Schrödinger operator. Assuming also regularity of the variance, the fluctuation of the random eigenvalues around their mean are shown to obey a multivari…
We give an explicit comparison of eigenvalues and eigenvectors of XY Hamiltonians of an open linear spin-1/2 chain and a closed spin-1/2 ring with periodic in space coefficients. It is shown that the Hamiltonian of a k-periodic chain with nk-1 sites has (n-1)k multiplicity one eigenvalues which are eigenvalues of multiplicity two for a Hamiltonian of a k-periodic ring with 2kn sites. For the corresponding eigenvectors in the case of a chain an explicit expression in terms of eigenvectors of the ring Hamiltonian is given. The remaining k-1 eigenvalues of the chain Hamiltonian and 2k eigenvalues…
The U(1) Calogero Sutherland Model (CSM) with anti-periodic boundary condition is studied. The Hamiltonian is reduced to a convenient form by similarity transformation. The matrix representation of the Hamiltonian acting on a partially ordered state space is obtained in an upper triangular form. Consequently the diagonal elements become the energy eigenvalues.
We explain the concept of Krein signature in Hamiltonian and $\mathcal{PT}$-symmetric systems on the case study of the one-dimensional Gross-Pitaevskii equation with a real harmonic potential and an imaginary linear potential. These potentials correspond to the magnetic trap, and a linear gain/loss in the mean-field model of cigar-shaped Bose-Einstein condensates. For the linearized Gross-Pitaevskii equation, we introduce the real-valued Krein quantity, which is nonzero if the eigenvalue is neutrally stable and simple and zero if the eigenvalue is unstable. If the neutrally stable eigenvalue i…
The modified Dirac-Pauli equations, which is entered by means of ${γ_5}$-mass extension of Hamiltonian operators, are considered. We also take into account the interaction of fermions with the intensive homogenous magnetic field focusing attention on (g-2) gyromagnetic factor of particles with spin $1/2$. Without the use of perturbation theory in the external field the exact energy spectra are deduced with regard to spin effects of fermions. We discuss the possible proposals of experimental measuring of properties of new particles which arising in this model.
We present a general counting result for the unstable eigenvalues of linear operators of the form $JL$ in which $J$ and $L$ are skew- and self-adjoint operators, respectively. Assuming that there exists a self-adjoint operator $K$ such that the operators $JL$ and $JK$ commute, we prove that the number of unstable eigenvalues of $JL$ is bounded by the number of nonpositive eigenvalues of~$K$. As an application, we discuss the transverse stability of one-dimensional periodic traveling waves in the classical KP-II (Kadomtsev--Petviashvili) equation. We show that these one-dimensional periodic wav…
