This paper shows that a finite discrete convolution involving Stirling numbers of both kinds and harmonic numbers can be expressed in terms of the Bernoulli numbers. As applications of this expression, the linear recurrence relation for the Bernoulli numbers given by Agoh is reproved, and a new recurrence relation for the Bernoulli numbers is obtained. Furthermore, it is shown that a cumulative sum of the Bernoulli numbers can be written in terms of the Bernoulli and di-Bernoulli numbers. Finally, congruences for the sums of the Bernoulli and Euler numbers are established.
In this paper, applying the Faà di Bruno formula and some properties of Bell polynomials, several closed formulas and determinantal expressions involving Stirling numbers of the second kind for higher-order Bernoulli and Euler polynomials are presented.
Bernoulli numbers are usually expressed in terms of their lower index numbers (recursive). This paper gives explicit formulas for Bernoulli numbers of even index. The formulas contain a remarkable sequence of determinants. The value of these determinants for variable dimension is investigated.
We find general solutions to the generating-function equation sum c_q^{(X)} z^q = F(z)^X, where X is a complex number and F(z) is a convergent power series with |F(0)| >0. We then use these results to derive finite expressions containing only integers or simple fractions for partition functions and for Euler, Bernoulli, and Stirling numbers.
We introduce generalized hypergeometric Bernoulli numbers for Dirichlet characters. We study their properties, including relations, expressions and determinants. At the end in Appendix we derive first few expressions of these numbers.
In this paper, we give the determinant expressions of the hypergeometric Bernoulli numbers, and some relations between the hypergeometric and the classical Bernoulli numbers which include Kummer's congruences. By applying Trudi's formula, we have some different expressions and inversion relations. We also determine explicit forms of convergents of the generating function of the hypergeometric Bernoulli numbers, from which several identities for hypergeometric Bernoulli numbers are given.
In this paper, we introduce poly-Bernoulli numbers with level $2$, related to the Stirling numbers of the second kind with level $2$, and study several properties of poly-Bernoulli numbers with level $2$ from their expressions, relations, and congruences. Poly-Bernoulli numbers with level $2$ have strong connections with poly-Cauchy numbers with level $2$. In a special case, we can determine the denominators of Bernoulli numbers with level $2$ by showing a von Staudt-Clausen like theorem.
We give an instant evaluation of multiple Zeta function at non-positive integers by elementary methods and discuss the Fourier theory (on unit interval) of the product of Bernoulli polynomials. We also show that the polynomial expression for Hurwitz Zeta function(at non-positive integral values of the first variable) and the polynomial expression for Bernoulli polynomials are equivalent.
It is shown that Bernoulli numbers and tangent numbers (the derivatives of the tangent function at zero) can be obtained by means of easily defined triangles of numbers in several ways, some of them very similar to the Catalan triangle and a Motzkin-like triangle. Our starting point in order to show this is a new expression of Zeta(2n) involving Motzkin paths.
In this paper, we introduce the concept of the (higher order) Appell-Carlitz numbers which unifies the definitions of several special numbers in positive characteristic, such as the Bernoulli-Carlitz numbers and the Cauchy-Carlitz numbers.Their generating function is usually named Hurwitz series in the function field arithmetic. By using Hasse-Teichmüller derivatives, we also obtain several properties of the (higher order) Appell-Carlitz numbers, including a recurrence formula, two closed forms expressions, and a determinant expression. The recurrence formula implies Carlitz's recurrence formu…
The poly-Bernoulli numbers and its relative are defined by the generating series using the polylogarithm series, and we call them type $B$ and $C$, respectively. As a generalization of these poly-Bernoulli numbers, we introduce Schur type poly-Bernoulli numbers and investigate their properties. First, we define a generalization of Arakawa-Kaneko multiple zeta functions and obtain their expression in terms of Schur type Bernoulli numbers. Next, under the restriction to the hook type, we define a generalization of Kaneko-Tsumura multiple zeta functions and obtain similar expression in terms of S…
Using three basic facts concerning Hurwitz zeta function,we give new natural proofs of the known results on Bernoulli polynomials, gamma function and also obtain Gauss' expression for Psi function at a rational point, all in a unified fashion. We also give a new proof of the relation between log gamma and derivative of the Hurwitz zeta function, including that of Stirling's expression for log gamma.
We provide direct elementary proofs of several explicit expressions for Bernoulli numbers and Bernoulli polynomials. As a byproduct of our method of proof, we provide natural definitions for generalized Bernoulli numbers and polynomials of complex order.
Poly-Bernoulli numbers are one of generalizations of the classical Bernoulli numbers. Since a negative index poly-Bernoulli number is an integer, it is an interesting problem to study this number from combinatorial viewpoint. In this short article, we give a new combinatorial relation between symmetrized poly-Bernoulli numbers and the Dumont-Foata polynomials.
In this paper we introduce three combinatorial models for symmetrized poly-Bernoulli numbers. Based on our models we derive generalizations of some identities for poly-Bernoulli numbers. Finally, we set open questions and directions of further studies.
Given a prime $p\geq 5$, we reduce modulo p a convolution of order p-1 of powers of two weighted Bernoulli numbers with Bernoulli numbers in terms of harmonic numbers and generalized harmonic numbers. Our proof is based on studying the p-adic expansion of the number of permutations of Sym(p-2) with an even number of ascents, up to the modulus $p^2$.
In the paper, the authors review some explicit formulas and establish a new explicit formula for Bernoulli and Genocchi numbers in terms of Stirling numbers of the second kind.
In this article, we introduce combinatorial models for poly-Bernoulli polynomials and poly-Euler numbers of both kinds. As their applications, we provide combinatorial proofs of some identities involving poly-Bernoulli polynomials.
We study matrices which transform the sequence of Fibonacci or Lucas polynomials with even index to those with odd index and vice versa. They turn out to be intimately related to generalized Stirling numbers and to Bernoulli, Genocchi and tangent numbers and give rise to various identities between these numbers. There is also a close connection with the Akiyama-Tanigawa algorithm.
In this note, by using the Hasse-Teichmüller derivatives, we obtain two explicit expressions for the related numbers of higher order Appell polynomials. One of them presents a determinant expression for the related numbers of higher order Appell polynomials, which involves several determinant expressions of special numbers, such as the higher order generalized hypergeometric Bernoulli and Cauchy numbers, thus recovers the classical determinant expressions of Bernoulli and Cauchy numbers stated in an article by Glaisher in 1875.
In this paper we investigate special generalized Bernoulli polynomials with a,b,c parameters that generalize classical Bernoulli numbers and polynomials. The present paper deals with some recurrence formulae for the generalization of poly-Bernoulli numbers and polynomials with a,b,c parameters. Poly-Bernoulli numbers satisfy certain recurrence relationships which are used in many computations involving poly-Bernoulli numbers. Obtaining a closed formula for generalization of poly-Bernoulli numbers with a,b,c paramerers therefore seems to be a natural and important problem. By using the generali…
In this paper, we present a formula for generating various exotic series in the spirit of Ovidiu Furdui and Alina Sintamarian. Our new series (evaluated in closed form) involve Bernoulli, harmonic, and Catalan numbers. Also Stirling numbers of the second kind, other special numbers, and exponential polynomials. The results include series identities with Laguerre polynomials and derangement polynomials.
The Riemann zeta identity at even integers of Lettington, along with his other Bernoulli and zeta relations, are generalized. Other corresponding recurrences and determinant relations are illustrated. Another consequence is the application to sums of double zeta values. A set of identities for the Ramanujan and generalized Ramanujan polynomials is presented. An alternative proof of Lettington's identity is provided, together with its generalizations to the Hurwitz and Lerch zeta functions, hence to Dirichlet $L$ series, to Eisenstein series, and to general Mellin transforms. The Hurwitz number…
The Bernoulli numbers are fascinating and ubiquitous numbers, they occur in several domains of Mathematics like Number theory (FLT), Group theory, Calculus and even in Physics. Since Bernoulli's work, they are yet studied to understand their deep nature and particularly to find relationships between them. In this paper, we give, firstly, a short response to a problem stated, in 1971, by Carlitz and studied by many authors like Prodinger \cite{PRO}, the second pearl is an answer to a question raised, in 2008, by Tom Apostol .The third pearl is another proof of a relationship already given in 20…
We show that, modulo some odd prime p, the powers of two weighted sum of the first p-2 divided Bernoulli numbers equals the Agoh-Giuga quotient plus twice the number of permutations on p-2 letters with an even number of ascents and distinct from the identity. We provide a combinatorial characterization of Wieferich primes, as well as of primes p for which p^2 divides the Fermat quotient q_p(2).
Poly-Bernoulli numbers $B_n^{(k)}\in\mathbb{Q}$\,($n \geq 0$,\,$k \in \mathbb{Z}$) are defined by Kaneko in 1997. Multi-Poly-Bernoulli numbers\,$B_n^{(k_1,k_2,\ldots, k_r)}$, defined by using multiple polylogarithms, are generations of Kaneko's Poly-Bernoulli numbers\,$B_n^{(k)}$. We researched relations between Multi-Poly-Bernoulli numbers and Poly-Bernoulli numbers of negative index in particular. In section 2, we introduce a identity for Multi-Poly-Bernoulli numbers of negative index which was proved by Kamano. In section 3, as main results, we introduce some relations between Multi-Poly-Be…
Explicit expressions for restricted partition function $W(s,{\bf d}^m)$ and its quasiperiodic components $W_j(s,{\bf d}^m)$ (called Sylvester waves) for a set of positive integers ${\bf d}^m = \{d_1, d_2, ..., d_m\}$ are derived. The formulas are represented in a form of a finite sum over Bernoulli polynomials of higher order with periodic coefficients.
We introduce the degenerate Bernoulli numbers of the second kind as a degenerate version of the Bernoulli numbers of the second kind. We derive a family of nonlinear differential equations satisfied by a function closely related to the generating function for those numbers. We obtain explicit expressions for the coefficients appearing in those differential equations and the degenerate Bernoulli numbers of the second kind. In addition, as an application and from those differential equations we have an identity expressing the degenerate Bernoulli numbers of the second kind in terms of those numb…
We review and discuss some results on the representation of Bernoulli, poly-Bernoulli numbers, and Bernoulli and Cauchy polynomials in terms of Stirling numbers of the first or second kind, or in terms of r-Stirling numbers.
The aim of this paper is to study the fully degenerate Bernoulli polynomials and numbers, which are a degenerate version of Bernoulli polynomials and numbers and arise naturally from the Volkenborn integral of the degenerate exponential functions on Zp. We find some explicit expressions for the fully degenerate Bernoulli polynomials and numbers in terms of the degenerate Stirling numbers of the second kind, the degenerate r-Stirling numbers of the second kind and of the degenerate Stirling polynomials. We also consider the degenerate poly-Bernoulli polynomials and derive explicit representatio…
In the paper, the author establishes an integral representation and properties of Bernoulli numbers of the second kind and reveals that the generating function of Bernoulli numbers of the second kind is a Bernstein function on $(0,\infty)$.
The multi-poly-Bernoulli numbers are generalizations of the Bernoulli numbers. In this paper, we will prove Kummer-type congruences for multi-poly-Bernoulli numbers via $p$-adic distributions.
In this paper we study q-Bernoulli numbers and polynomials related to q-Stirling numbers. From thsese studying we investigate some interesting q-stirling numbers' identities related to q-Bernoulli numbers.
In this paper we consider carlitz q-Bernoulli numbers and q-stirling numbers of the first and the second kind. From these numbers we derive many interesting formulae associated with q-Bernoulli numbers.
In this paper, we define the truncated Bernoulli-Carlitz numbers and the truncated Cauchy-Carlitz numbers as analogues of hypergeometric Bernoulli numbers and hypergeometric Cauchy numbers, and as extensions of Bernoulli-Carlitz numbers and the Cauchy-Carlitz numbers. These numbers can be expressed explicitly in terms of incomplete Stirling-Carlitz numbers.
In the paper, the authors provide four alternative proofs of an explicit formula for computing Bernoulli numbers in terms of Stirling numbers of the second kind.
We realize that geometric polynomials and p-Bernoulli polynomials and numbers are closely related with an integral representation. Therefore, using geometric polynomials, we extend some properties of Bernoulli polynomials and numbers such as recurrence relations, telescopic formula and Raabe's formula to p-Bernoulli polynomials and numbers. In particular cases of these results, we establish some new results for Bernoulli polynomials and numbers. Moreover, we evaluate a Faulhaber-type summation in terms of p-Bernoulli polynomials.
Hurwitz numbers are the Laurent coefficients of an elliptic function $\wp(u)$ of cyclotomic type, and they are natural generalization of the Bernoulli numbers. This paper gives new generalization of Bernoulli and Hurwitz numbers for higher genus cases. They satisfy completely von Staudt-Clausen type theorem, an extension of von Staudt second theorem, and Kummer type congruence relation. The present paper is revised and combined version of math.NT/0304377 and math.NT/0312178 containing many numerical examples.
Bernoulli numbers are usually expressed in terms of their lower index numbers (recursive). This paper gives an explicit formula for Bernoulli numbers of even index. The formula contains a remarkable sequence of determinants.
We introduce multi-poly-Bernoulli-Carlitz numbers, function field analogues of multi-poly-Bernoulli numbers of Imatomi-Kaneko-Takeda. We explicitly describe multi-poly-Bernoulli Carlitz numbers in terms of the Carlitz factorial and the Stirling-Carlitz numbers of the second kind and also show their relationships with function field analogues of finite multiple zeta values.
In this paper we consider the weighted q-Bernoulli numbers and polynomials which are differnt type of Carlitz's q-Bernoulli numbers and polynomials. From these numbers and polynomials, we derive some interesting formulaes and identities.
The classical sequence of Bernoulli numbers is known to the the sequence of moments of a family of orthogonal polynomials. Some similar statements are obtained for another sequence of rational numbers, which is similar in many ways to the Bernoulli numbers.
In the paper, the authors establish an explicit formula for computing Bernoulli polynomials at non-negative integer points in terms of $r$-Stirling numbers of the second kind.
As properties of poly-Bernoulli numbers, a number of formulas such as the duality formula, explicit formula using the Stirling numbers of the second kind and periodicity for negative upper-index have been established. For the multi-indexed poly-Bernoulli numbers generalized by Kaneko-Tsumura, among such properties only the duality formula was obtained. In this paper, we restrict the double-indexed poly-Bernoulli numbers and show the explicit formula using the Stirling numbers of the second kind and periodicity for negative upper-index for them. Further, we define the variant of multiple-indexe…
In this paper, we introduce the new fully degenerate poly-Bernoulli numbers and polynomials and investigate some properties of these polynomials and numbers. From our properties, we derive some identities for the fully degenerate poly-Bernoulli numbers and polynomials.
We discuss the asymptotic expansions of certain products of Bernoulli numbers and factorials, e.g., \[ \prod_{ν=1}^n |B_{2ν}| \quad \text{and} \quad \prod_{ν=1}^n (k ν)!^{ν^r} \quad \text{as} \quad n \to \infty \] for integers $k \geq 1$ and $r \geq 0$. Our main interest is to determine exact expressions, in terms of known constants, for the asymptotic constants of these expansions and to show some relations among them.
We present a relationship between the generalized hyperharmonic numbers and the poly-Bernoulli polynomials, motivated from the connections between harmonic and Bernoulli numbers. This relationship yields numerous identities for the hyper-sums and several congruences.
