In this work we aim to gain qualitative insight on the far-from-equilibrium behavior of the gluon plasma produced in the early stages of a heavy-ion collision. It was recently discovered arXiv:1810.10554 that the distribution functions of quarks and gluons in QCD effective kinetic theory (EKT) exhibit self-similar "scaling" evolution with time-dependent scaling exponents long before those exponents reach their pre-hydrodynamic fixed-point values. In this work we shed light on the origin of this time-dependent scaling phenomenon in the small-angle approximation to the Boltzmann equation. We first solve the Boltzmann equation numerically and find that time-dependent scaling is a feature of this kinetic theory, and that it captures key qualitative features of the scaling of hard gluons in QCD EKT. We then proceed to study scaling analytically and semi-analytically in this equation. We find that an appropriate momentum rescaling allows the scaling distribution to be identified as the instantaneous ground state of the operator describing the evolution of the distribution function, and the approach to the scaling function is described by the decay of the excited states. That is to say, there is a frame in which the system evolves adiabatically. Furthermore, from the conditions for adiabaticity we can derive evolution equations for the time-dependent scaling exponents. In addition to the known free-streaming and BMSS fixed points, we identify a new "dilute" fixed point when the number density becomes small before hydrodynamization. Corrections to the fixed point exponents in the small-angle approximation agree quantitatively with those found previously in QCD EKT and arise from the evolution of the ratio between hard and soft scales.
The density of states and energy spectrum of the gluon radiation are calculated for the color current of an expanding hydrodynamic skyrmion in the quark gluon plasma with a semiclassical method. Results are compared with those in literatures.
We study contribution of radiative processes to $p_{\perp}$-broadening of fast partons in an expanding quark-gluon plasma. It is shown that the radiative correction to $\langle p_{\perp}^2\rangle$ for the QGP produced in $AA$-collisions at RHIC and LHC may be negative, and comparable in absolute value with the non-radiative contribution. We have found that the QGP expansion enhances the radiative suppression of $p_\perp$-broadening as compared to the static medium.
We derive an expression for the anomalous viscosity in an anisotropically expanding quark-gluon-plasma, which arises from interactions of thermal partons with dynamically generated color fields. The anomalous viscosity dominates over the collisional viscosity for large velocity gradients or weak coupling. This effect may provide an explanation for the apparent ``nearly perfect'' liquidity of the matter produced in nuclear collisions at RHIC without the assumption that it is a strongly coupled state.
We argue that an expanding quark-gluon plasma has an anomalous viscosity, which arises from interactions with dynamically generated color fields. We derive an expression for the anomalous viscosity in the turbulent plasma domain and apply it to the hydrodynamic expansion phase, when the quark-gluon plasma is near equilibrium. The anomalous viscosity dominates over the collisional viscosity for weak coupling and not too late times. This effect may provide an explanation for the apparent ``nearly perfect'' liquidity of the matter produced in nuclear collisions at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Colli…
Particle production from an expanding classical color electromagnetic field is extensively studied, motivated by the early stage dynamics of ultra-relativistic heavy ion collisions. We develop a formalism at one-loop order to compute the particle spectra by canonically quantizing quark, gluon and ghost fluctuations under the presence of such an expanding classical color background field; the canonical quantization is done in the $τ$-$η$ coordinates in order to take into account manifestly the expanding geometry. As a demonstration, we model the expanding classical color background field by a b…
We study the quark energy loss in an expanding quark-gluon plasma. The expanding plasma produced in high energy AA-collision is described by Bjorken's model. The dependence of the energy loss on the infrared cutoff for the radiated gluons, on the quark mass, and on the initial conditions of QCD plasma is investigated.
We study the mechanism responsible for the onset of instabilities in a chiral phase transition at nonzero temperature and baryon chemical potential. As a low-energy effective model, we consider an expanding relativistic plasma of quarks coupled to a chiral field, and obtain a phenomenological chiral hydrodynamics from a variational principle. Studying the dispersion relation for small fluctuations around equilibrium, we identify the role played by chiral waves and pressure waves in the generation of instabilities. We show that pressure modes become unstable earlier than chiral modes.
We discuss the role of elastic and inelastic collisions and their interplay in the thermalization of the quark-gluon plasma. We consider a simplified situation of a static plasma, spatially uniform and isotropic in momentum space. We focus on the small momentum region, which equilibrates first, and on a short time scale. We obtain a simple kinetic equation that allows for an analytic description of the most important regimes. The present analysis suggests that the formation of a Bose condensate, expected when only elastic collisions are present, is strongly hindered by the inelastic, radiative…
We derive expressions for various correlators of the gauge field and find the propagators in Hamiltonian dynamics which employs a new gauge $A^τ=0$. This gauge is a part of the wedge form of relativistic dynamics suggested earlier as a tool for the study of quantum dynamics in ultra-relativistic heavy ion collisions. We prove that the gauge is completely fixed. The gauge field is quantized and the field of radiation and the longitudinal fields are unambiguously separated. The new gauge puts the quark and gluon fields of the colliding hadrons in one Hilbert space and thus allows one to avoid fa…
We study radiative parton energy loss in an expanding quark-gluon plasma with magnetic monopoles. We find that for realistic number density of thermal monopoles obtained in lattice simulations parton rescatterings on monopoles can considerably enhance energy loss for plasma produced in $AA$ collisions at RHIC and LHC energies. However, contrary to previous expectations, monopoles do not lead to the surface dominance of energy loss.
We argue that an expanding quark-gluon plasma has an anomalous viscosity, which arises from interactions with dynamically generated colour fields. The anomalous viscosity dominates over the collisional viscosity for large velocity gradients or weak coupling. This effect may provide an explanation for the apparent near perfect liquidity of the matter produced in nuclear collisions at RHIC without the assumption that it is a strongly coupled state.
The gluon radiation induced by multiple scattering of a hard parton in expanding quark-gluon plasma is investigated. The radiative energy loss of hard parton jet is shown to decrease considerably when angular size of extracted jet goes up, but the fraction of loss survives even for the reasonable wide cone of angles due to the coherent effects taking into account the rescattering of the radiated gluons in the QCD medium. The possible application to the jet quenching phenomenon in heavy ion collisions at LHC energies is discussed.
We calculate the production of large mass dileptons from the jet-dilepton conversion in the expanding quark-gluon plasma at Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) and Large Hadron Collider (LHC) energies. The jet-dilepton conversion exceeds the thermal dilepton production and Drell-Yan process in the large mass region of 3.9 GeV$<M<$5.8 GeV and 6.3 GeV$<M<$8.7 GeV in central Pb+Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$=2.76 TeV and 5.5 TeV, respectively. We present the numerical solution of ideal fluid hydrodynamics. We find that the transverse flow leads to a rapid cooling of the fire ball. The suppre…
We report on a numerical study of the Boltzmann equation including $2\leftrightarrow 2$ scatterings of gluons and quarks in an overoccupied Glasma undergoing longitudinal expansion. We find that when a cascade of gluon number to the infrared occurs, corresponding to an infrared enhancement analogous to a transient Bose-Einstein condensate, gluon distributions qualitatively reproduce the results of classical-statistical simulations for the expanding Glasma. These include key features of the distributions that are not anticipated in the "bottom-up" thermalization scenario. We also find that quar…
We show the existence of unstable color skyrmions in a class of nonabelian fluid models. Oscillating and expanding solutions are found in the time-dependent case.
The bulk and shear viscosities ($η$ and $ζ$) have been studied for quark-gluon-plasma produced in relativistic heavy ion collisions within semi-classical transport theory, in a recently proposed quasi-particle model of (2+1)-flavor lattice QCD equation of state. These transport parameters have been found to be highly sensitive to the interactions present in hot QCD. Contributions to the transport coefficients from both the gluonic sector and the matter sector have been investigated. The matter sector is found to be significantly dominating over the gluonic sector, in both the cases of $η$ and …
Previous authors have considered the problem of the medium effects on single gluon bremsstrahlung associated with producing a high-energy particle in a finite, time-dependent QCD plasma. Working to leading logarithmic order, I show that the result for the bremsstrahlung gluon spectrum can be cast into a remarkably simple form in the general case. I similarly analyze the process of pair production. Also, I comment on the radius of convergence of the opacity expansion in cases where the leading-log approximation holds, showing that the opacity expansion does not converge when the thickness of th…
We perform a comparison of the radiative and collisional parton energy losses in an expanding quark-gluon plasma. The radiative energy loss is calculated within the light-cone path integral approach. The collisional energy loss is calculated using the Bjorken method with an accurate treatment of the binary collision kinematics. Our numerical results demonstrate that for RHIC and LHC conditions the collisional energy loss is relatively small in comparison to the radiative one. We find an enhancement of the heavy quark radiative energy loss as compared to that of the light quarks at high energie…
We reexamine the scenario of homogeneous nucleation of the quark-gluon plasma produced in ultra-relativistic heavy ion collisions. A generalization of the standard nucleation theory to rapidly expanding system is proposed. The nucleation rate is derived via the new scaling parameter $λ_Z$. It is shown that the size distribution of hadronic clusters plays an important role in the dynamics of the phase transition. The longitudinally expanding system is supercooled to about 3-6%, then it is reheated, and the hadronization is completed within 6-10 fm/c, i.e. 5-10 times faster than it was estimated…
Intense electromagnetic fields are created in the quark-gluon plasma by the external ultra-relativistic valence charges. The time-evolution and the strength of this field are strongly affected by the electrical conductivity of the plasma. Yet, it has recently been observed that the effect of the magnetic field on the plasma flow is small. We compute the effect of plasma flow on magnetic field and demonstrate that it is less than 10\%. These observations indicate that the plasma hydrodynamics and the dynamics of electromagnetic field decouple. Thus, it is a very good approximation, on the one h…
The chemical equilibration of the parton distribution in collisions of two heavy nuclei at the CERN Large Hadron Collider is investigated. Initial conditions are obtained from a self-screened parton cascade calculation. The onset of transverse expansion of the system is found to impede the chemical equilibration. The system initially approaches chemical equilibrium, but then is driven away from it, when the transverse velocity becomes large.
Within first-order phase transitions, we investigate the pre-transitional effects due to the nonperturbative, large-amplitude thermal fluctuations which can promote phase mixing before the critical temperature is reached from above. In contrast with the cosmological quark-hadron transition, we find that the rapid cooling typical of the RHIC and LHC experiments and the fact that the quark-gluon plasma is chemically unsaturated suppress the role of non-perturbative effects at current collider energies. Significant supercooling is possible in a (nearly) homogeneous state of quark gluon plasma.
The temperature dependence of the kinetic coefficients is obtained in the non-perturbative region with the help of Green-Kubo-type formulae in the model of massive gluon gas motivated by numerical results from simulations of lattice QCD. The entropy production rate is estimated using scaling hydrodynamics. It is shown that the increase in the viscosity coefficients leads to entropy generation in heavy ion collision processes which could be big, especially for temperatures close to the critical one.
We present a study of the impact of the expansion of deconfined medium on single-gluon emission spectra and the jet suppression factor ($Q_{AA}$) within the BDMPS-Z formalism. These quantities are calculated for three types of media (static medium, exponentially decaying medium and Bjorken expanding medium). The distribution of medium-induced gluons and the jet $Q_{AA}$ are calculated using the evaluation of in-medium evolution with splitting kernels derived from the gluon emission spectra. Scaling behavior of splitting kernels is derived for low-x and high-x regimes in the asymptote of large …
We perform real-time lattice simulations of nonequilibrium quark production in the longitudinally expanding QCD plasma. Starting from a highly occupied gluonic state with vacuum quark sector, we extract the time evolution of quark and gluon number densities per unit transverse area and rapidity. The total quark number shows after an initial rapid increase an almost linear growth with time. Remarkably, this growth rate appears to be consistent with a simple kinetic theory estimate involving only two-to-two scattering processes in small-angle approximation. This extends previous findings about t…
The diffusion wake accompanying the jet-induced Mach cone provides a unique probe of the properties of quark-gluon plasma in high-energy heavy-ion collisions. It can be characterized by a depletion of soft hadrons in the opposite direction of the propagating jet. We explore the 3D structure of the diffusion wake induced by $γ$-triggered jets in Pb+Pb collisions at the LHC energy within the coupled linear Boltzmann transport and hydro model. We identify a valley structure caused by the diffusion wake on top of a ridge from the initial multiple parton interaction (MPI) in jet-hadron correlation …
Direct photon production from a longitudinally expanding quark-gluon plasma (QGP) at Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) and Large Hadron Collider (LHC) energies is studied with a real-time kinetic description that is consistently incorporated with hydrodynamics. Within Bjorken's hydrodynamical model, energy nonconserving (anti)quark bremsstrahlung q(\bar{q})\to q(\bar{q})γand quark-antiquark annihilation q\bar{q}\to γare shown to be the dominant nonequilibrium effects during the transient lifetime of the QGP. For central collisions we find a significant excess of direct photons in the rang…
We study Mach shocks generated by fast partonic jets propagating through a deconfined strongly-interacting matter. Our main goal is to take into account different types of collective motion during the formation and evolution of this matter. We predict a significant deformation of Mach shocks in central Au+Au collisions at RHIC and LHC energies as compared to the case of jet propagation in a static medium. The observed broadening of the near-side two-particle correlations in pseudorapidity space is explained by the Bjorken-like longitudinal expansion. Three-particle correlation measurements are…
Going beyond the simplified gluonic cascades, we introduce both gluon and quark degrees of freedom for partonic cascades inside the medium. We then solve the set of coupled evolution equations numerically with splitting kernels calculated for static, exponential, and Bjorken expanding media to arrive at medium-modified parton spectra for quark and gluon initiated jets. Using these, we calculate the inclusive jet $R_{AA}$ where the phenomenologically driven combinations of quark and gluon jet fractions are included. Then, the rapidity dependence of the jet $R_{AA}$ is examined. We also study th…
We use a set of simple angular moments to solve the Boltzmann equation in the relaxation time approximation for a boost invariant longitudinally expanding gluonic plasma. The transition from the free streaming regime at early time to the hydrodynamic regime at late time is well captured by the first two-moments, corresponding to the monopole and quadrupole components of the momentum distribution, or equivalently to the energy density and the difference between the longitudinal and the transverse pressures. We relate this property to the existence of fixed points in the infinite hierarchy of eq…
We use linear viscous hydrodynamics to describe the energy and momentum deposited by a fast moving parton in a quark gluon plasma. This energy-momentum is in turn used to compute the probability density for the production of soft partons by means of the Cooper-Frye formula. We use this probability density to render manifest a relation between the average transverse momentum given to the fast moving parton from the medium $\hat{q}$, the entropy density to shear viscosity ratio $η/s$ and the energy lost by the fast moving parton $ΔE$ in an expanding medium under similar conditions to those gener…
We have developed a hydrodynamic model to study sequential melting of charmonium states in an expanding QGP medium. According to the initial fluid temperature profile, $J/ψ$'s are randomly distributed in the transverse plane. As the fluid evolve in time, the free streaming $J/ψ$'s are suppressed if the local fluid temperature exceed a critical temperature. PHENIX data on the centrality dependence of $J/ψ$ suppression in Au+Au collisions at mid-rapidity are explained by sequential melting of the charmonium states, $χ_c$, $ψ\prime$ and $J/ψ$, in the expanding medium. The critical temperatures $T…
Evolution of spatially anisotropic perturbation created in the system formed after Relativistic Heavy Ion Collisions has been studied. The microscopic evolution of the fluctuations has been examined within the ambit of Boltzmann Transport Equation (BTE) in a hydrodynamically expanding background. The expansion of the background composed of Quark Gluon Plasma (QGP) is treated within the framework of relativistic hydrodynamics. Spatial anisotropic fluctuations with different geometry have been evolved through Boltzmann equation. It is observed that the trace of such fluctuation survive the evolu…
The plasma of quarks and gluons created in ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions turns out to be paramagnetic. In the presence of a background magnetic field, this paramagnetism thus leads to a pressure anisotropy, similar to anisotropies appearing in a viscous fluid. In the present paper, we use this analogy, and develop a framework similar to anisotropic hydrodynamics, to take the pressure anisotropy caused, in particular, by the nonvanishing magnetization of a plasma of quarks and gluons into account. We consider the first two moments of the classical Boltzmann equation in the presence of …
The stability of an expanding parton plasma is analyzed within quasi-particle models. The effective mass of the parton is calculated self-consistently from a gap equation which is either obtained from the Nambu Jona-Lasinio Lagrangian or from a fit to observables calculated on the lattice. The latter shows an effective confinement. At thermal equilibrium the stability is studied within thermodynamics (mechanical stability) and via a linear response analysis of the Vlasov equation. The instabilities related to a first-order phase transition are found. For a plasma expanding in three and one dim…
Detailed insight into the interplay between parton energy loss and the way deconfined medium created in heavy-ion collisions expands is of great importance for improving the understanding of the jet quenching phenomenon. In this paper we study the impact of the expansion of deconfined medium on the single-gluon emission spectrum, its resummation and the jet suppression factor ($Q_{AA}$) within the BDMPS-Z formalism. We calculate these quantities for three types of expansion scenarios, namely static, exponentially decaying and Bjorken expanding media. The distribution of medium-induced gluons i…
We present real-time lattice simulation results for nonequilibrium quark production from an over-occupied gluon plasma in longitudinally expanding geometry. The quark number density per unit transverse area and rapidity shows almost linear growth in time, and its growth rate appears to be consistent with a simple kinetic theory estimate involving only two-to-two scattering processes in small-angle approximation. We also find that quarks produced at early times satisfy a nonequilibrium scaling law.
Based on a holographic far-from-equilibrium calculation of the chiral magnetic effect~(CME) in an expanding quark gluon plasma, we study collisions at various energies. We compute the time evolution of the CME current in the presence of a time-dependent axial charge density and subject to a time-dependent magnetic field. The plasma expansion leads to a dilution of the CME current. We study distinct combinations of how the initial magnetic field and initial axial charge behave with changing initial energy as proposed in previous literature. Most scenarios we consider lead to an increasing time-…
We analyze the known moving boundary effects in plasma and briefly review a mechanism for particle acceleration through a plasma front. We then show how this mechanism may affect particles crossing the boundary of an expanding quark gluon plasma.
Comprehensive understanding of medium-induced radiative energy loss is of a paramount importance in describing observed jet quenching in heavy-ion collisions. In this work, we have calculated the medium-modified gluon splitting rates for different profiles of the expanding partonic medium, namely profiles for static, exponential, and Bjorken expanding medium. Here in this study, we have used the Baier-Dokshitzer-Mueller-Peigne-Schiff-Zakharov (BDMPSZ) formalism for multiple soft scatterings with a time-dependent transport coefficient for characterizing the expanding medium. Using the kinetic r…
Hot gluons are the dominant components of the QCD plasma to be formed in future high energy heavy ion experiments. In this paper we study the elementary processes in the plasma medium for gluon multiplication based on all orders of the tree-diagrams in perturbative QCD. When applying to the chemical equilibration in the expanding system, we found that the gluons reaches chemical equilibrium well within its plasma phase. The inclusion of all the next-to-leading order processes makes the equilibration considerably faster than the simple $gg\leftrightarrow ggg$ one considered previously.
In this work, we introduce both gluon and quark degrees of freedom for describing the partonic cascades inside the medium. We present numerical solutions for the set of coupled evolution equations with splitting kernels calculated for the static, exponential and Bjorken expanding media to arrive at medium-modified parton spectra for quark and gluon initiated jets respectively. We discuss novel scaling features of the partonic spectra between different types of media. Next, we study the inclusive jet $R_{AA}$ by including phenomenologically driven combinations of quark and gluon fractions insid…
We study multiple scatterings of jets on constituents of quark gluon plasma and introduce energy--energy correlations to quantify their effects. The effects from a longitudinally expanding plasma on medium as well as high energy jets are found to be significant at both RHIC and LHC energies. Because jets escape from the plasma long before the completion of mixed phase, these effects are free from complications of final state hadronic interactions and decays. These suggest that jets can be used to probe the plasma that might be created in future high energy heavy ion collisions.
The contribution presents a brief summary of the Gauge/Gravity approach to the study of hydrodynamic flow of the quark-gluon plasma formed in heavy-ion collisions, in a boost-invariant setting (Bjorken flow). Considering the ideal case of a supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory for which the AdS/CFT correspondence gives a precise form of the Gauge/Gravity duality, the properties of the strongly coupled expanding plasma are put in one-to-one correspondence with the metric of a 5-dimensional black hole with the horizon moving away in the 5th dimension and its deformations consistent with the relevant…
We consider the evolution of a spherically symmetric Quark-Gluon Plasma (QGP) drop with limited size in the framework of relativistic hydrodynamics. In the presence of the boundary, the expanding and cooling of QGP drop may appear as oscillating processes, which realize via multiple traveling of rarefaction and compression waves through the plasma and lead to increasing of plasma life-time. Within this picture, deflagration is the main possible way of hadronization. The slow cooling mechanism also leads to a significant enhancement of photon yield in comparison with Bjorken scenario.
We show that partons traversing a quark-gluon plasma can lose substantial amounts of energy also by scatterings, and not only through medium-induced radiation as mainly considered previously. Results from Monte Carlo simulations of soft interactions of partons, emerging from a hard scattering, through multiple elastic scatterings on gluons in an expanding relativistic plasma show a sizeable jet quenching which can account for a substantial part of the effect observed in RHIC data.
By decomposing the distribution functions and color field to regular and fluctuation parts, the solution of the semi-classical kinetic equations of quark-gluon plasma is analyzed. Through expanding the kinetic equations of the fluctuation parts to third order, the nonlinear permittivity including the self-interaction of gauge field is obtained and a rough numerical estimate is given out for the important $\vk =0$ modes of the pure gluon plasma.
Charm production from the quark-gluon plasma created in the midrapidity of central heavy ion collisions at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is studied in the next-to-leading order in QCD. Using a schematic longitudinally boost-invariant and transversally expanding fire-cylinder model, we find that charm production could be appreciably enhanced at LHC as a result of the high temperature that is expected to be reached in the produced quark-gluon plasma. Sensitivities of our results to the number of charm quark pairs produced from initial hard scattering, the initial thermalization time and temper…
Elastic scattering of charm (c) and bottom (b) quarks via D- and B-meson resonance states in an expanding, strongly interacting quark-gluon plasma is investigated. Drag and diffusion coefficients are calculated from an effective model based on chiral symmetry and heavy-quark effective theory, and utilized in a relativistic Langevin simulation to obtain transverse-momentum spectra and elliptic flow (v_2) of c- and b-quarks. The hadronization to D- and B-mesons is described by coalescence and fragmentation, and the resulting decay-electron spectra are compared to recent RHIC data.
Based on the kinetic theory, the non-Abelian medium property of hot Quark-Gluon Plasma is investigated. The nonlinearity of the plasma comes from two aspects: The nonlinear wave-wave interaction and self-interaction of color field. The non-Abelian color permittivity is obtained by expanding the kinetic equations to third order. As an application, the nonlinear Landau damping rate and the nonlinear eigenfrequency shift are calculated in the longwave length limit.
Experiments on high-energy heavy-ion collisions reveal the formation and some intriguing properties of the Quark-Gluon Plasma (QGP), a new phase of matter predicted by Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD), the quantum field theory of strong interactions. The phenomenological success of relativistic hydrodynamic simulations with remarkably weak shear viscosity, modeling QGP as an almost perfect fluid, are in favor of the occurrence of a strongly-coupled QGP expanding and cooling during the reaction. A derivation of these features in QCD at strong coupling is still lacking and represents a very intricat…
The drag and diffusion coefficients are studied within the framework of Fokker-Planck dynamics for the case of a charm quark propagating in an expanding quark-gluon plasma. The space-time evolution of the nuclear matter created in the relativistic heavy-ion collision is modelled using MUSIC, a 3+1 D relativistic viscous hydrodynamic approach. The effect of viscous corrections to the heavy quark transport coefficients is explored by considering scattering processes with thermal quarks and gluons in the medium. It is observed that the momentum diffusion of the heavy quarks is sensitive to the sh…
The dissipative corrections to the hydrodynamic equations describing the evolution of energy-momentum tensor and parton densities are derived in a simple way using the scaling approximation for the expanding quark gluon plasma at finite baryon density. This procedure has been extended to study the process of chemical equilibration using a set of rate equations appropriate for a viscous quark gluon plasma. It is found that in the presence of dissipation, the temperature of the plasma evolves slower, whereas the quark and gluon fugacities evolve faster than their counterparts in the ideal case w…
We present a new definition of the jet quenching parameter $\hat{q}$ in a weakly-coupled quark-gluon plasma undergoing boost-invariant longitudinal expansion. We propose a boost-invariant definition of $\hat{q}$, which is proportional to the broadening of the angular variables $η$ (the pseudo-rapidity) and $ϕ$ (the azimuthal angle). We furthermore consider radiative corrections to $\hat{q}$ and find potentially large corrections enhanced by a double logarithm like the case of a static medium. But unlike for the static medium, these corrections are now local in (proper) time.
By solving the rate equation in an expanding quark-gluon plasma, we study thermal production of charm quarks in central Pb+Pb collisions at the Future Circular Collider. With the charm quark production cross section taken from the perturbative QCD at the next-to-leading order, we find that charm quark production from the quark-gluon plasma can be appreciable compared to that due to initial hard scattering between colliding nucleons.
The contribution presents a summary of the Gauge/Gravity approach to the study of hydrodynamic flow of the quark-gluon plasma formed in heavy-ion collisions. Considering the ideal case of a supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory for which the AdS/CFT correspondence gives a precise form of the Gauge/Gravity duality, the properties of the strongly coupled expanding plasma are put in one-to-one correspondence with the metric of a 5-dimensional black hole moving away in the 5th dimension and its deformations consistent with the relevant Einstein equations. Several recently studied aspects of this framew…
Due to long chemical equilibration times within standard hadronic reactions during the hadron gas phase in relativistic heavy ion collisions it has been suggested that the hadrons are "born" into equilibrium after the quark gluon plasma phase. Here we develop a dynamical scheme in which possible Hagedorn states contribute to fast chemical equilibration times of baryon anti-baryon pairs (as well as kaon anti-kaon pairs) inside a hadron gas and just below the critical temperature. Within this scheme, we use master equations and derive various analytical estimates for the chemical equilibration t…
