We perform real-time lattice simulations of nonequilibrium quark production in the longitudinally expanding QCD plasma. Starting from a highly occupied gluonic state with vacuum quark sector, we extract the time evolution of quark and gluon number densities per unit transverse area and rapidity. The total quark number shows after an initial rapid increase an almost linear growth with time. Remarkably, this growth rate appears to be consistent with a simple kinetic theory estimate involving only two-to-two scattering processes in small-angle approximation. This extends previous findings about the role of two-to-two scatterings for purely gluonic dynamics in accordance with the early stages of the bottom-up thermalization scenario.
Axial charge production at the early stage of heavy-ion collisions is investigated within the framework of real-time lattice simulations at leading order in QCD coupling. Starting from color glass condensate initial conditions, the time evolution of quantum quark fields under classical color gauge fields is computed on a lattice in longitudinally expanding geometry. We consider simple color charge distributions in Lorentz contracted nuclei that realize flux tube-like configurations of color fields carrying nonzero topological charge after a collision. By employing the Wilson fermion extended t…
We present real-time lattice simulation results for nonequilibrium quark production from an over-occupied gluon plasma in longitudinally expanding geometry. The quark number density per unit transverse area and rapidity shows almost linear growth in time, and its growth rate appears to be consistent with a simple kinetic theory estimate involving only two-to-two scattering processes in small-angle approximation. We also find that quarks produced at early times satisfy a nonequilibrium scaling law.
The beam energy scan program at RHIC provides data on net-proton number fluctuations with the goal to detect the QCD critical end point and first-order phase transition. Interpreting these experimental signals requires a vital understanding of the interplay of critical phenomena and the nonequilibrium dynamics of the rapidly expanding fireball. We study these aspects with a fluid dynamic expansion coupled to the explicit propagation of the chiral order parameter sigma via a Langevin equation. Assuming a sigma-proton coupling through an effective proton mass, we relate cumulants of the order pa…
I summarize the derivation of a set of Feynman rules appropriate for the perturbative description of the nonequilibrium dynamics of the symmetry-breaking phase transition in $λϕ^4$ theory in a Robertson-Walker universe. The approximation scheme I develop provides for a treatment of dissipative effects which are essential to an adequate description of the nonequilibrium state. It also provides for the emergence from an initially symmetric state of a final state exhibiting the properties of spontaneous symmetry breaking without the introduction by hand of any explicit symmetry breaking.
In this talk I will describe various features of time dependent dynamics of strongly coupled plasma from the perspective of the AdS/CFT correspondence. I will take as an example boost invariant plasma flow and concentrate on the properties of hydrodynamic expansion, thermalization versus hydrodynamization and some features of nonequilibrium behaviour.
Within the closed-time-path formalism of nonequilibrium QCD, we derive a Slavnov-Taylor (ST) identity for the gluon polarization tensor. The ST identity takes the same form both in Coulomb and covariant gauges. Application to quasi-uniform quark-gluon plasma (QGP) near equilibrium or nonequilibrium quasistationary QGP is made.
Direct photon production from a longitudinally expanding quark-gluon plasma (QGP) at Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) and Large Hadron Collider (LHC) energies is studied with a real-time kinetic description that is consistently incorporated with hydrodynamics. Within Bjorken's hydrodynamical model, energy nonconserving (anti)quark bremsstrahlung q(\bar{q})\to q(\bar{q})γand quark-antiquark annihilation q\bar{q}\to γare shown to be the dominant nonequilibrium effects during the transient lifetime of the QGP. For central collisions we find a significant excess of direct photons in the rang…
The quantum kinetics of photons is studied directly in real time by implementing the dynamical renormalization group. In contrast to conventional approach, the dynamical renormalization group method consistently includes off-shell (energy non-conserving) effects and accounts for time-dependent collisional kernel. To lowest order we find that in the relaxation time approximation the semihard photon distribution function relaxes with a power law.
In Phys. Rev. Lett. 114 (2015) 6, 061601, we reported on a new universality class for longitudinally expanding systems, encompassing strongly correlated non-Abelian plasmas and $N$-component self-interacting scalar field theories. Using classical-statistical methods, we showed that these systems share the same self-similar scaling properties for a wide range of momenta in a limit where particles are weakly coupled but their occupancy is high. Here we significantly expand on our previous work and delineate two further self-similar regimes. One of these occurs in the deep infrared (IR) regime of…
The density of states and energy spectrum of the gluon radiation are calculated for the color current of an expanding hydrodynamic skyrmion in the quark gluon plasma with a semiclassical method. Results are compared with those in literatures.
Deviations from kinetic equilibrium of massive particles caused by the universe expansion are calculated analytically in the Boltzmann approximation. For the case of an energy independent amplitude of elastic scattering, an exact partial differential equation is derived instead of the usual integro-differential one. A simple perturbative solution of the former is found. For the case of an energy-dependent amplitude the problem cannot be reduced to the differential equation but the solution of the original integro-differential equation can be found in terms of the Taylor expansion, which in the…
We analytically compute the out-of-equilibrium direct photon production rate and electric conductivity, in a strongly coupled and expanding Bjorken plasma, from holography. Our results are valid at late times where the expanding plasma asymptotes Bjorken hydrodynamics. The out-of-equilibrium rates are substantially harder and larger, early on in the Bjorken expansion phase.
We argue that an expanding quark-gluon plasma has an anomalous viscosity, which arises from interactions with dynamically generated color fields. We derive an expression for the anomalous viscosity in the turbulent plasma domain and apply it to the hydrodynamic expansion phase, when the quark-gluon plasma is near equilibrium. The anomalous viscosity dominates over the collisional viscosity for weak coupling and not too late times. This effect may provide an explanation for the apparent ``nearly perfect'' liquidity of the matter produced in nuclear collisions at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Colli…
We study contribution of radiative processes to $p_{\perp}$-broadening of fast partons in an expanding quark-gluon plasma. It is shown that the radiative correction to $\langle p_{\perp}^2\rangle$ for the QGP produced in $AA$-collisions at RHIC and LHC may be negative, and comparable in absolute value with the non-radiative contribution. We have found that the QGP expansion enhances the radiative suppression of $p_\perp$-broadening as compared to the static medium.
We study (3+1)D kinetic (Boltzmann-Vlasov) equations for relativistic plasma particles in a one-dimensionally expanding geometry motivated by ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions. We set up local equations in terms of Yang-Mills potentials and auxiliary fields that allow simulations of hard-(expanding)-loop (HEL) dynamics on a lattice. We determine numerically the evolution of plasma instabilities in the linear (Abelian) regime and also derive their late-time behavior analytically, which is consistent with recent numerical results on the evolution of the so-called melting color-glass condens…
We derive an expression for the anomalous viscosity in an anisotropically expanding quark-gluon-plasma, which arises from interactions of thermal partons with dynamically generated color fields. The anomalous viscosity dominates over the collisional viscosity for large velocity gradients or weak coupling. This effect may provide an explanation for the apparent ``nearly perfect'' liquidity of the matter produced in nuclear collisions at RHIC without the assumption that it is a strongly coupled state.
We study the mechanism responsible for the onset of instabilities in a chiral phase transition at nonzero temperature and baryon chemical potential. As a low-energy effective model, we consider an expanding relativistic plasma of quarks coupled to a chiral field, and obtain a phenomenological chiral hydrodynamics from a variational principle. Studying the dispersion relation for small fluctuations around equilibrium, we identify the role played by chiral waves and pressure waves in the generation of instabilities. We show that pressure modes become unstable earlier than chiral modes.
The large density of gluons, which is present shortly after a nuclear collision at very high energies, can lead to the formation of a condensate. We identify a gauge-invariant order parameter for condensation based on elementary non-perturbative excitations of the plasma, which are described by spatial Wilson loops. Using real-time lattice simulations, we demonstrate that a self-similar transport process towards low momenta builds up a macroscopic zero mode. Our findings reveal intriguing similarities to recent discoveries of condensation phenomena out of equilibrium in table-top experiments w…
We study the quark energy loss in an expanding quark-gluon plasma. The expanding plasma produced in high energy AA-collision is described by Bjorken's model. The dependence of the energy loss on the infrared cutoff for the radiated gluons, on the quark mass, and on the initial conditions of QCD plasma is investigated.
We discuss the role of elastic and inelastic collisions and their interplay in the thermalization of the quark-gluon plasma. We consider a simplified situation of a static plasma, spatially uniform and isotropic in momentum space. We focus on the small momentum region, which equilibrates first, and on a short time scale. We obtain a simple kinetic equation that allows for an analytic description of the most important regimes. The present analysis suggests that the formation of a Bose condensate, expected when only elastic collisions are present, is strongly hindered by the inelastic, radiative…
We present a relativistic molecular dynamics approach based on the Nambu--Jona-Lasinio Lagrangian. We derive the relativistic time evolution equations for an expanding plasma, discuss the hadronization cross section and how they act in such a scenario. We present in detail how one can transform the time evolution equation to a simulation program and apply this program to study the expansion of a plasma created in experiments at RHIC and LHC. We present first results on the centrality dependence of $v_2$ and of the transverse momentum spectra of pions and kaons and discuss in detail the hadroni…
Thermalization in an expanding parton plasma is studied within the framework of Boltzmann equation in the absence of any mean fields. In particular, we study the time-dependence of the relaxation time to the lowest order in finite temperature QCD and how such time-dependence affects the thermalization of an expanding parton plasma. Because of Debye screening and Landau damping at finite temperature, the relaxation time (or transport rates) is free of infrared divergencies in both longitudinal and transverse interactions. The resultant relaxation time decreases with time in an expanding plasma …
We implement the dynamical renormalization group (DRG) using the hard thermal loop (HTL) approximation for the real-time nonequilibrium dynamics in hot plasmas. The focus is on the study of the relaxation of gauge and fermionic mean fields and on the quantum kinetics of the photon and fermion distribution functions. As a concrete physical prediction, we find that for a QGP of temperature T sim 200 MeV and lifetime 10 < t < 50 fm/c there is a new contribution to the hard (k \sim T) photon production from off-shell bremsstrahlung (q rightarrow q gamma and bar{q} rightarrow bar{q} gamma) at just …
Intense electromagnetic fields are created in the quark-gluon plasma by the external ultra-relativistic valence charges. The time-evolution and the strength of this field are strongly affected by the electrical conductivity of the plasma. Yet, it has recently been observed that the effect of the magnetic field on the plasma flow is small. We compute the effect of plasma flow on magnetic field and demonstrate that it is less than 10\%. These observations indicate that the plasma hydrodynamics and the dynamics of electromagnetic field decouple. Thus, it is a very good approximation, on the one h…
We use the holographic principle to study quark jets with trailing strings in an expanding plasma that asymptotes Bjorken hydrodynamics. We make use of the fact that the trailing string is the locus of the light delay in bulk to obtain the explicit form for quark jets in the expanding plasma. From the trailing string solution we calculate the drag coefficient of a heavy quark in the strongly coupled expanding plasma. The energy scaling of the maximum penetration length of an ultrarelativistic light quark jet using light rays in bulk is estimated.
We study radiative parton energy loss in an expanding quark-gluon plasma with magnetic monopoles. We find that for realistic number density of thermal monopoles obtained in lattice simulations parton rescatterings on monopoles can considerably enhance energy loss for plasma produced in $AA$ collisions at RHIC and LHC energies. However, contrary to previous expectations, monopoles do not lead to the surface dominance of energy loss.
Relativistic hydrodynamics simulations of quark-gluon plasma play a pivotal role in our understanding of heavy ion collisions at RHIC and LHC. They are based on a phenomenological description due to Mueller, Israel, Stewart (MIS) and others, which incorporates viscous effects and ensures a well-posed initial value problem. Focusing on the case of conformal plasma we propose a generalization which includes, in addition, the dynamics of the least damped far-from-equilibrium degree of freedom found in strongly coupled plasmas through the AdS/CFT correspondence. We formulate new evolution equation…
We study the (3+1)-dimensional evolution of non-Abelian plasma instabilities in the presence of a longitudinally expanding background of hard particles using the discretized hard loop framework. The free streaming background dynamically generates a momentum-space anisotropic distribution which is unstable to the rapid growth of chromomagnetic and chromoelectric fields. These fields produce longitudinal pressure that works to isotropize the system. Extrapolating our results to energies probed in ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions we find, however, that a pressure anisotropy persists for a f…
We argue that an expanding quark-gluon plasma has an anomalous viscosity, which arises from interactions with dynamically generated colour fields. The anomalous viscosity dominates over the collisional viscosity for large velocity gradients or weak coupling. This effect may provide an explanation for the apparent near perfect liquidity of the matter produced in nuclear collisions at RHIC without the assumption that it is a strongly coupled state.
The time evolution of collective modes in an expanding ultarelativistic and (effectively) Abelian plasma is studied in the hard-loop approximation semi-analytically by means of integro-differential equations. A previous treatment is generalized to arbitrary orientation of wave vectors with respect to the direction of anisotropy and thus to a fully 3+1 dimensional situation. Moreover, initial fluctuations are allowed in both gauge fields and currents, which is necessary in the case of (stable) longitudinal modes. For unstable (Weibel) modes, this generalization of initial conditions reduces dra…
We apply classical gluodynamics to early stages of ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions. We start by going through the space-time evolution of ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions in the color glass condensate framework and the basics of real-time gluodynamics on the lattice in the temporal gauge. We study the plasmon mass scale in three- and two-dimensional systems by comparing three different methods to measure the mass scale. The methods are a formula which can be derived from Hard Thermal Loop effective theory at leading order (HTL), the effective dispersion relation (DR) and measureme…
Using the Janik-Peschanski dual to a Bjorken flow, a Langevin equation is derived for a heavy quark in an expanding N = 4 supersymmetric Yang-Mills plasma. Such a plasma is characterized by a proper-time dependence of the temperature and corresponds to a system out of equilibrium. The analysis first focuses on a quark at rest in the plasma comoving frame. The case of a quark moving across a longitudinally expanding plasma is then considered. The two-point functions for the random noise acting on such heavy quark probes are computed.
Based on a holographic far-from-equilibrium calculation of the chiral magnetic effect~(CME) in an expanding quark gluon plasma, we study collisions at various energies. We compute the time evolution of the CME current in the presence of a time-dependent axial charge density and subject to a time-dependent magnetic field. The plasma expansion leads to a dilution of the CME current. We study distinct combinations of how the initial magnetic field and initial axial charge behave with changing initial energy as proposed in previous literature. Most scenarios we consider lead to an increasing time-…
We calculate the production of large mass dileptons from the jet-dilepton conversion in the expanding quark-gluon plasma at Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) and Large Hadron Collider (LHC) energies. The jet-dilepton conversion exceeds the thermal dilepton production and Drell-Yan process in the large mass region of 3.9 GeV$<M<$5.8 GeV and 6.3 GeV$<M<$8.7 GeV in central Pb+Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$=2.76 TeV and 5.5 TeV, respectively. We present the numerical solution of ideal fluid hydrodynamics. We find that the transverse flow leads to a rapid cooling of the fire ball. The suppre…
A complete set of Feynman rules is derived, which permits a perturbative description of the nonequilibrium dynamics of a symmetry-breaking phase transition in $λϕ^4$ theory in an expanding universe. In contrast to a naive expansion in powers of the coupling constant, this approximation scheme provides for (a) a description of the nonequilibrium state in terms of its own finite-width quasiparticle excitations, thus correctly incorporating dissipative effects in low-order calculations, and (b) the emergence from a symmetric initial state of a final state exhibiting the properties of spontaneous …
We show that the backreaction of left-handed neutrinos out of equilibrium on the matter sector induces an electric current proportional to a magnetic field even without a chiral imbalance for electrons in core-collapse supernovae. We derive the transport coefficient of this effect based on the recently formulated chiral radiation transport theory for neutrinos. This chiral electric current generates a strong magnetic field via the so-called chiral plasma instability, which could provide a new mechanism for the strong and stable magnetic field of magnetars. We also numerically study the physica…
This thesis is devoted to studying aspects of real-time nonequilibrium dynamics in quantum field theory by implementing an initial value formulation of quantum field theory. The main focus is on the linear relaxation of mean fields and quantum kinetics in nonequilibrium multiparticle quantum systems with potential applications to ultrarelativistic heavy ion collisions, cosmological phase transitions and condensed matter systems. We first study the damping of fermion mean fields in a fermion-scalar plasma with a view towards understanding baryon transport phenomena during electroweak baryogenes…
The bulk viscosity, $ζ$ and its ratio with the shear viscosity, $ζ/η$ have been studied in an anisotropically expanding pure glue plasma in the presence of turbulent color fields. It has been shown that the anisotropy in the momentum distribution function of gluons, which has been determined from a linearized transport equation eventually leads to the bulk viscosity. For the isotropic (equilibrium) state, a recently proposed quasi-particle model of pure SU(3) lattice QCD equation of state has been employed where the interactions are encoded in the effective fugacity. It has been argued that th…
We investigate the behaviour of the lowest nonhydrodynamic modes in a class of holographic models which exhibit an equation of state closely mimicking the one determined from lattice QCD. We calculate the lowest quasinormal mode frequencies for a range of scalar self-interaction potentials and find that the damping of the quasinormal modes at the phase transition/crossover falls off by a factor of around two from conformality after factoring out standard conformal temperature dependence. The damping encoded in the imaginary part of the frequencies turns out to be correlated with the speed of s…
We study analytically the medium-induced energy loss of a high energy parton passing through a finite size QCD plasma, which is expanding longitudinally according to Bjorken's model. We extend the BDMPS formalism already applied to static media to the case of a quark which hits successive layers of matter of decreasing temperature, and we show that the resulting radiative energy loss can be as large as 6 times the corresponding one in a static plasma at the reference temperature $T = T (L)$, which is reached after the quark propagates a distance $L$.
We investigate the time evolution of a quark antiquark plasma by solving numerically the relativistic transport equations derived on the Hartree level from the Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model. We find that the phase transition in the expanding quark antiquark plasma is different as compared to that in a static plasma. The expansion competes with the transition and finally quark droplets will be formed which subsequently hadronizes. These findings raise the question whether static thermal models can make at all any prediction about signals of that transition .
By combining the Wigner function formalism of relativistic quantum kinetic theory with fundamental equations of relativistic magnetohydrodynamics (MHD), we present a novel approach to determine the proper time evolution of the temperature and other thermodynamic quantities in a uniformly expanding hot, magnetized, and weakly interacting plasma. The aim is to study the contribution of quantum corrections to this evolution. We first determine the corresponding Wigner function in terms of the solution of the Dirac equation in the presence of a constant magnetic field. Using this function, we then…
We reexamine the scenario of homogeneous nucleation of the quark-gluon plasma produced in ultra-relativistic heavy ion collisions. A generalization of the standard nucleation theory to rapidly expanding system is proposed. The nucleation rate is derived via the new scaling parameter $λ_Z$. It is shown that the size distribution of hadronic clusters plays an important role in the dynamics of the phase transition. The longitudinally expanding system is supercooled to about 3-6%, then it is reheated, and the hadronization is completed within 6-10 fm/c, i.e. 5-10 times faster than it was estimated…
We perform a comparison of the radiative and collisional parton energy losses in an expanding quark-gluon plasma. The radiative energy loss is calculated within the light-cone path integral approach. The collisional energy loss is calculated using the Bjorken method with an accurate treatment of the binary collision kinematics. Our numerical results demonstrate that for RHIC and LHC conditions the collisional energy loss is relatively small in comparison to the radiative one. We find an enhancement of the heavy quark radiative energy loss as compared to that of the light quarks at high energie…
We present a new definition of the jet quenching parameter $\hat{q}$ in a weakly-coupled quark-gluon plasma undergoing boost-invariant longitudinal expansion. We propose a boost-invariant definition of $\hat{q}$, which is proportional to the broadening of the angular variables $η$ (the pseudo-rapidity) and $ϕ$ (the azimuthal angle). We furthermore consider radiative corrections to $\hat{q}$ and find potentially large corrections enhanced by a double logarithm like the case of a static medium. But unlike for the static medium, these corrections are now local in (proper) time.
We investigate dynamics of the chiral transition in expanding quark-antiquark plasma produced in an ultra-relativistic heavy ion collision. The chiral symmetry break-down and dynamical generation of the constituent quark mass are studied within the linear sigma model and Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model. Time dependence of the quark and antiquark densities is obtained from the scaling solution of the relativistic Vlasov equation. Fast initial growth and strong oscillations of the constituent quark mass are found in the linear sigma model as well as in the NJL model, when derivative terms are taken int…
The bulk and shear viscosities ($η$ and $ζ$) have been studied for quark-gluon-plasma produced in relativistic heavy ion collisions within semi-classical transport theory, in a recently proposed quasi-particle model of (2+1)-flavor lattice QCD equation of state. These transport parameters have been found to be highly sensitive to the interactions present in hot QCD. Contributions to the transport coefficients from both the gluonic sector and the matter sector have been investigated. The matter sector is found to be significantly dominating over the gluonic sector, in both the cases of $η$ and …
The chemical equilibration of the parton distribution in collisions of two heavy nuclei at the CERN Large Hadron Collider is investigated. Initial conditions are obtained from a self-screened parton cascade calculation. The onset of transverse expansion of the system is found to impede the chemical equilibration. The system initially approaches chemical equilibrium, but then is driven away from it, when the transverse velocity becomes large.
The plasma of quarks and gluons created in ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions turns out to be paramagnetic. In the presence of a background magnetic field, this paramagnetism thus leads to a pressure anisotropy, similar to anisotropies appearing in a viscous fluid. In the present paper, we use this analogy, and develop a framework similar to anisotropic hydrodynamics, to take the pressure anisotropy caused, in particular, by the nonvanishing magnetization of a plasma of quarks and gluons into account. We consider the first two moments of the classical Boltzmann equation in the presence of …
Within first-order phase transitions, we investigate the pre-transitional effects due to the nonperturbative, large-amplitude thermal fluctuations which can promote phase mixing before the critical temperature is reached from above. In contrast with the cosmological quark-hadron transition, we find that the rapid cooling typical of the RHIC and LHC experiments and the fact that the quark-gluon plasma is chemically unsaturated suppress the role of non-perturbative effects at current collider energies. Significant supercooling is possible in a (nearly) homogeneous state of quark gluon plasma.
We study the production of photons through the non-equilibrium relaxation of a disoriented chiral condensate formed in the expanding hot central region in ultra-relativistic heavy-ion collisions. It is found that the expansion smoothes out the resonances in the process of parametric amplification such that the non-equilibrium photons are dominant to the thermal photons over the range 0.2-2 GeV. We propose that to search for non-equilibrium photons in the direct photon measurements of heavy-ion collisions can be a potential test of the formation of disoriented chiral condensates.
Non-Abelian plasma instabilities play a crucial role in the nonequilibrium dynamics of a weakly coupled quark-gluon plasma and they importantly modify the standard perturbative bottom-up thermalization scenario in heavy-ion collisions. Using the auxiliary-field formulation of the hard-loop effective theory, we study numerically the real time evolution of instabilities in an anisotropic collisionless Yang-Mills plasma expanding longitudinally in free streaming. In this first real-time lattice simulation we consider the most unstable modes, long-wavelength coherent color fields that are constant…
We investigated the effects of nonequilibrium and collision terms on the deconfinement phase transition of an expanding quark system in Friedberg-Lee model in relaxation time approximation. By calculating the effective quark potential, the critical temperature of the phase transition is dominated by the mean field, while the collisions among quarks and mesons change the time structure of the phase transition significantly.
Photon production from a thermalized quark-gluon plasma of finite lifetime is studied directly in real time with a nonequilibrium formulation that includes off-shell (energy nonconserving) effects. To lowest order we find that production of direct photons form a quark-gluon plasma of temperature T ~ 200 MeV and lifetime t ~ 10-20 fm/c is strongly enhanced by off-shell (anti)quark bremsstrahlung q(\bar{q})->q(\bar{q})γ. The yield from this nonequilibrium finite-lifetime effect dominates over those obtained from higher order equilibrium rate calculations in the range of energy E > 2 GeV and fall…
Boltzmann equations and their matrix valued generalisations are commonly used to describe nonequilibrium phenomena in cosmology. On the other hand, it is known that in gauge theories at high temperature processes involving many quanta, which naively are of higher order in the coupling, contribute to the relaxation rate at leading order. How does this accord with the use of single particle distribution functions in the kinetic equations? When can these effects be parametrised in an effective description in terms of quasiparticles? And what is the kinematic role of their thermal masses? We addre…
We study the thermalization process in highly occupied non-Abelian plasmas at weak coupling. The non-equilibrium dynamics of such systems is classical in nature and can be simulated with real-time lattice gauge theory techniques. We provide a detailed discussion of this framework and elaborate on the results reported in~\cite{Berges:2013eia} along with novel findings. We demonstrate the emergence of universal attractor solutions, which govern the non-equilibrium evolution on large time scales both for non-expanding and expanding non-Abelian plasmas. The turbulent attractor for a non-expanding …
