设$f$是一个亏格2的尖点Siegel模特征形式。我们证明了与$f$相关的Galois表示相容系的adelic开像定理,推广了Ribet和Momose关于椭圆模形式的结果。利用这一结果,我们研究了$f$的Hecke特征值$a_p$的分布,并得到了固定$a\in\mathbf{C}$时集合$\{p \le x : a_p = a\}$大小的上界,其精神类似于椭圆曲线的Lang--Trotter猜想。

Let $f$ be a genus two cuspidal Siegel modular eigenform. We prove an adelic open image theorem for the compatible system of Galois representations associated to $f$, generalising the results of Ribet and Momose for elliptic modular forms. Using this result, we investigate the distribution of the Hecke eigenvalues $a_p$ of $f$, and obtain upper bounds for the sizes of the sets $\{p \le x : a_p = a\}$ for fixed $a\in\mathbf{C}$, in the spirit of the Lang--Trotter conjecture for elliptic curves.
We obtain distribution results for traces of Frobenius for various families of elliptic curves with respect to the Lang-Trotter conjecture, extremal primes, and the central limit theorem. This includes some generalisations and bounds related to the work of Sha-Shparlinski on the average Lang-Trotter conjecture for single-parametric families of elliptic curves and the work of various authors on the trace of Frobenius for primes in congruence classes. Some results are also obtained for modular forms.
We construct infinitely ramified Galois representations $ρ$ such that the $a_l (ρ)$'s have distributions in contrast to the statements of Sato-Tate, Lang-Trotter and others. Using similar methods we deform a residual Galois representation for number fields and obtain an infinitely ramified representation with very large image, generalising a result of Ramakrishna.
We obtain new results concerning Lang-Trotter conjecture on Frobenius traces and Frobenius fields over single and double parametric families of elliptic curves. We also obtain similar results with respect to the Sato-Tate conjecture. In particular, we improve a result of A.C. Cojocaru and the second author (2008) towards the Lang-Trotter conjecture on average for polynomially parameterized families of elliptic curves when the parameter runs through a set of rational numbers of bounded height. Some of the families we consider are much thinner than the ones previously studied.
For a non-CM elliptic curve $E$ defined over the rationals, Lang and Trotter made very deep conjectures concerning the number of primes $p\leq x$ for which $a_p(E)$ is a fixed integer (and for which the Frobenius field at $p$ is a fixed imaginary quadratic field). Under GRH, we use a smoothed version of the Chebotarev density theorem to improve the best known Lang-Trotter upper bounds of Murty, Murty and Saradha, and Cojocaru and David.
Following Lang and Trotter we describe a probabilistic model that predicts the distribution of primes $p$ with given Frobenius traces at $p$ for two fixed elliptic curves over $\mathbb{Q}$. In addition, we propose explicit Euler product representations for the constant in the predicted asymptotic formula and describe in detail the universal component of this constant. A new feature is that in some cases the $\ell$-adic limits determining the $\ell$-factors of the universal constant, unlike the Lang-Trotter conjecture for a single elliptic curve, do not stabilize. We also prove the conjecture o…
We prove that the set of Farey fractions of order $T$, that is, the set $\{α/β\in \Q : \gcd(α, β) = 1, 1 \le α, β\le T\}$, is uniformly distributed in residue classes modulo a prime $p$ provided $T \ge p^{1/2 +\eps}$ for any fixed $\eps>0$. We apply this to obtain upper bounds for the Lang--Trotter conjectures on Frobenius traces and Frobenius fields ``on average'' over a one-parametric family of elliptic curves.
Inspired by the work of Lang-Trotter on the densities of primes with fixed Frobenius traces for elliptic curves defined over $\mathbb{Q}$ and by the subsequent generalization of Cojocaru-Davis-Silverberg-Stange to generic abelian varieties, we study the analogous question for abelian surfaces isogenous to products of non-CM elliptic curves over $\mathbb{Q}$. We formulate the corresponding conjectural asymptotic, provide upper bounds, and explicitly compute (when the elliptic curves lie outside a thin set) the arithmetically significant constants appearing in the asymptotic. This allows us to p…
Let $A$ be a $g$-dimensional abelian variety over $\mathbb{Q}$ whose adelic Galois representation has open image in $\text{GSp}_{2g} \widehat{\mathbb{Z}}$. We investigate the endomorphism algebras $\text{End}(A_p) \otimes \mathbb{Q} = \mathbb{Q}( π_p )$ of the reduction of $A$ modulo primes $p$ at which this reduction is ordinary and simple. We obtain conditional and unconditional asymptotic upper bounds on the number of primes at which this "Frobenius field" is a specified number field and, when $A$ is two-dimensional, at which the Frobenius field contains a specified real quadratic number fi…
We improve the Chebotarev variant of the Brun-Titchmarsh theorem proven by Lagarias, Montgomery, and Odlyzko using the log-free zero density estimate and zero repulsion phenomenon for Hecke L-functions that were recently proved by the authors. Our result produces an improvement for the best unconditional bounds toward two conjectures of Lang and Trotter regarding the distribution of traces of Frobenius for elliptic curves and holomorphic cuspidal modular forms. We also obtain new results on the distribution of primes represented by positive-definite integral binary quadratic forms.
Let $E$ be an elliptic curve defined over the rational numbers and $r$ a fixed integer. Using a probabilistic model consistent with the Chebotarev theorem for the division fields of $E$ and the Sato-Tate distribution, Lang and Trotter conjectured an asymptotic formula for the number of primes up to $x$ which have Frobenius trace equal to $r$, where $r$ is a {\it fixed} integer. However, as shown in this note, this asymptotic estimate cannot hold for {\it all} $r$ in the interval $|r|\le 2\sqrt{x}$ with a uniform bound for the error term, because an estimate of this kind would contradict the Ch…
Let $E$ be an elliptic curve over $\mathbb{Q}.$ Let $a_p$ denote the trace of the Frobenius endomorphism at a rational prime $p$. For a fixed integer $r,$ define the prime-counting function as $π_{E,r}(x):=\sum_{p\leq x,p\nmid Δ_E,a_p=r}1$. The Lang-Trotter Conjecture predicts that $$π_{E,r}(x)=C_{E,r}\cdot \frac{\sqrt{x}}{{\rm log}x}+o(\frac{\sqrt{x}}{{\rm log}x})$$ as $x\longrightarrow \infty,$ where $C_{E,r}$ is a specific non-negative constant. The Hardy-Littlewood Conjecture gives a similar asymptotic formula as above for the number of primes of the form $ax^2+bx+c$. We establish a relati…
Let $E$ be an elliptic curve over $\mathbb{Q}$. Let $p$ be a prime of good reduction for $E$. Then, for a prime $p \neq \ell$, the Frobenius automorphism associated to $p$ (unique up to conjugation) acts on the $\ell$-adic Tate module of $E$. The characteristic polynomial of the Frobenius automorphism has rational integer coefficients and is independent of $\ell$. Its splitting field is called the Frobenius field of $E$ at $p$. Let $E_1$ and $E_2$ be two elliptic curves defined over $\mathbb{Q}$ that are non-isogenous over $\overline{\mathbb{Q}}$ and also without complex multiplication over $\…
For an elliptic curve $E$ over $\ratq$ and an integer $r$ let $π_E^r(x)$ be the number of primes $p\le x$ of good reduction such that the trace of the Frobenius morphism of $E/\fie_p$ equals $r$. We consider the quantity $π_E^r(x)$ on average over certain sets of elliptic curves. More in particular, we establish the following: If $A,B>x^{1/2+ε}$ and $AB>x^{3/2+ε}$, then the arithmetic mean of $π_E^r(x)$ over all elliptic curves $E$ : $y^2=x^3+ax+b$ with $a,b\in \intz$, $|a|\le A$ and $|b|\le B$ is $\sim C_r\sqrt{x}/\log x$, where $C_r$ is some constant depending on $r$. This improves a result …
In this paper we present an algorithm for computing Hecke eigensystems of Hilbert-Siegel cusp forms over real quadratic fields of narrow class number one. We give some illustrative examples using the quadratic field $\Q(\sqrt{5})$. In those examples, we identify Hilbert-Siegel eigenforms that are possible lifts from Hilbert eigenforms.
We show that the reductions modulo primes $p\le x$ of the elliptic curve $$ Y^2 = X^3 + f(a)X + g(b), $$ behave as predicted by the Lang-Trotter and Sato-Tate conjectures, on average over integers $a \in [-A,A]$ and $b \in [-B,B]$ for $A$ and $B$ reasonably small compared to $x$, provided that $f(T), g(T) \in \Z[T]$ are not powers of another polynomial over $\Q$. For $f(T) = g(T) = T$ first results of this kind are due to E. Fouvry and M. R. Murty and have been further extended by other authors. Our technique is different from that of E. Fouvry and M. R. Murty which does not seem to work in th…
We prove equidistribution theorems for a family of holomorphic Siegel cusp forms of general degree in the level aspect. Our main contribution is to estimate unipotent contributions for general degree in the geometric side of Arthur's invariant trace formula in terms of Shintani zeta functions. Several applications including the vertical Sato-Tate theorem and low-lying zeros for standard $L$-functions of holomorphic Siegel cusp forms are discussed. We also show that the "non-genuine forms" which come from non-trivial endoscopic contributions by Langlands functoriality classified by Arthur are n…
In this paper, we study twisted arithmetic divisors on the modular curve X_0(N) with N square-free. For each pair (Δ, r) where Δ>0 and Δ\equiv r^2 \mod 4N, we constructed a twisted arithmetic theta function ϕ_{Δ, r}(τ) which is a generating function of arithmetic twisted Heegner divisors. We prove the modularity of ϕ_{Δ, r}(τ), along the way, we also identify the arithmetic pairing \langle ϕ_{Δ, r}(τ),\widehatω_N \rangle with special value of some Eisenstein series, where \widehatω_N is a normalized metric Hodge line bundle.
Let f(t,X) be an irreducible polynomial over the field of rational functions k(t), where k is a number field. Let O be the ring of integers of k. Hilbert's irreducibility theorem gives infinitely many integral specializations of t to values a in O such that f(a,X) is still irreducible. In this paper we study the set Red(O) of those a in O with f(a,X) reducible. We show that Red(O) is a finite set under rather weak assumptions. In particular, several results of K. Langmann, obtained by Diophantine approximation techniques, appear as special cases of some of our results. Our method is completely…
We first investigate two kinds of Fricke families consisting of Fricke functions and Siegel functions, respectively. And, in terms of their special values we generate ray class fields of imaginary quadratic fields, which is related to the Lang-Schertz conjecture.
We consider $p$-adic families of Siegel eigenforms of genus $2$ and finite slope, defined as local pieces of an eigenvariety and equipped with a suitable integral structure. Under some assumptions on the residual image, we show that the image of the Galois representation associated with a family is big, in the sense that a Lie algebra attached to it contains a congruence subalgebra of non-zero level. We call Galois level of the family the largest such level. We show that it is trivial when the residual representation has full image. When the residual representation is a symmetric cube, the zer…
We study the L-functions associated to Siegel modular forms (equivalently, automorphic representations of ${\rm GSp}(4,\mathbb{A}_{\mathbb{Q}})$) both theoretically and numerically. For the L-functions of degrees 10, 14, and 16 we perform representation theoretic calculations to cast the Langlands L-function in classical terms. We develop a precise notion of what it means to test a conjectured functional equation for an L-function, and we apply this to the degree 10 adjoint L-function associated to a Siegel modular form.
We undertake a detailed study of the lowest weight modules for the Hermitian symmetric pair (G,K), where G=Sp_4(R) and K is its maximal compact subgroup. In particular, we determine K-types and composition series, and write down explicit differential operators that navigate all the highest weight vectors of such a module starting from the unique lowest-weight vector. By rewriting these operators in classical language, we show that the automorphic forms on G that correspond to the highest weight vectors are exactly those that arise from nearly holomorphic vector-valued Siegel modular forms of d…
We compute the averages over elliptic curves of the constants occurring in the Lang-Trotter conjecture, the Koblitz conjecture, and the cyclicity conjecture. The results obtained confirm the consistency of these conjectures with the corresponding ``theorems on average'' obtained recently by various authors.
In this paper, we associate Galois representations to globally generic cuspidal automorphic representations on GSp(4), over a totally real field F, which are Steinberg at some finite place. This association is compatible with the local Langlands correspondence for GSp(4) studied recently in a preprint of Gan and Takeda. As a corollary, we relate the rank of the monodromy operator at p to the dimensions of the parahoric fixed spaces at p. The Galois representations are constructed by first passing to GL(4) over a CM extension, then applying the book of Harris-Taylor plus a refinement due to Tay…
Miyawaki type lifts are kinds of Langlands functorial lifts and a special case was first conjectured by Miyawaki and proved by Ikeda for Siegel cusp forms. Since then, such a lift for Hermitian modular forms was constructed by Atobe and Kojima , and for half-integral weight Siegel cusp forms by Hayashida, and we constructed Miyawaki type lift for ${\rm GSpin}(2,10)$. Recently Ikeda and Yamana generalized Ikeda type construction and accordingly did Miyawaki type lift for Hilbert cusp forms in a remarkable way. In all these works, a construction of Miyawaki type lift takes two steps as follows: …
Let $π$ be a cuspidal automorphic representation of $GL_n(\mathbb{A}_\mathbb{Q})$ which satisfies certain reasonable assumptions such as integrality of Hecke polynomials, the existence of mod $\ell$ Galois representations attached to $π$. Under Langlands functoriality of exterior $m$-th power $\wedge^m(π)$, $m=2,...,[\frac n2]$, we will construct a unique Artin representation associated to $π$. As a corollary, we obtain that such a cuspidal representation of $GL_n(\mathbb{A}_\mathbb{Q})$ satisfies the Ramanujan conjecture. We also revisit our previous work on Artin representations associated t…
We work out the exact relationship between algebraic modular forms for a two-by-two general unitary group over a definite quaternion algebra, and those arising from genera of positive-definite quinary lattices, relating stabilisers of local lattices with specific open compact subgroups, paramodular at split places, and with Atkin-Lehner operators. Combining this with the recent work of Rösner and Weissauer, proving conjectures of Ibukiyama on Jacquet-Langlands type correspondences (mildly generalised here), provides an effective tool for computing Hecke eigenvalues for Siegel modular forms of …
In this paper, we describe an algorithm for computing algebraic modular forms on compact inner forms of $\mathrm{GSp}_4$ over totally real number fields. By analogues of the Jacquet-Langlands correspondence for $\mathrm{GL}_2$, this algorithm in fact computes Hecke eigensystems of Hilbert-Siegel modular forms of genus 2. We give some examples of such eigensystems over $\Q(\sqrt{2})$.
Closed string amplitudes at genus $h\leq 3$ are given by integrals of Siegel modular functions on a fundamental domain of the Siegel upper half-plane. When the integrand is of rapid decay near the cusps, the integral can be computed by the Rankin-Selberg method, which consists of inserting an Eisenstein series $E_h(s)$ in the integrand, computing the integral by the orbit method, and finally extracting the residue at a suitable value of $s$. String amplitudes, however, typically involve integrands with polynomial or even exponential growth at the cusps, and a renormalization scheme is required…
In this note we combine the advantages of the methods of Siegel-Baker-Coates and of Lang-Zagier for the computation of S-integral points on elliptic curves in Weierstrass normal form over the rationals. In this way we are able to overcome the absence of an explicit lower bound for linear forms in q-adic elliptic logarithms. We present an efficient algorithm for determining all S-integral points on such curves.
Silverman and Stange define the notion of an aliquot cycle of length L for a fixed elliptic curve E defined over the rational numbers, and conjecture an order of magnitude for the function which counts such aliquot cycles. In the present note, we combine heuristics of Lang-Trotter with those of Koblitz to refine their conjecture to a precise asymptotic formula by specifying the appropriate constant. We give a criterion for positivity of the conjectural constant, as well as some numerical evidence for our conjecture.
We prove an explicit Chebotarev variant of the Brun--Titchmarsh theorem. This leads to explicit versions of the best-known unconditional upper bounds toward conjectures of Lang and Trotter for the coefficients of holomorphic cuspidal newforms. In particular, we prove that $$\lim_{x \to \infty} \frac{\#\{1 \leq n \leq x \mid τ(n) \neq 0\}}{x} > 1-1.15 \times 10^{-12},$$ where $τ(n)$ is Ramanujan's tau-function. This is the first known positive unconditional lower bound for the proportion of positive integers $n$ such that $τ(n) \neq 0$.
Let $K$ be a number field and $r$ an integer. Given an elliptic curve $E$, defined over $K$, we consider the problem of counting the number of degree two prime ideals of $K$ with trace of Frobenius equal to $r$. Under certain restrictions on $K$, we show that "on average" the number of such prime ideals with norm less than or equal to $x$ satisfies an asymptotic identity that is in accordance with standard heuristics. This work is related to the classical Lang-Trotter conjecture and extends the work of several authors.
Many important analytic statements about automorphic forms, such as the analytic continuation of certain L-functions, rely on the well-known rapid decay of K-finite cusp forms on Siegel sets. We extend this here to prove a more general decay statement along sets much larger than Siegel sets, and furthermore state and prove the decay for smooth but not necessarily K-finite cusp forms. We also state a general theorem about the convergence of Rankin-Selberg integrals involving unipotent periods, closing a gap in the literature on L-functions. These properties serve as the analytic basis of a new …
We classify Siegel modular cusp forms of weight two for the paramodular group K(p) for primes p< 600. We find that weight two Hecke eigenforms beyond the Gritsenko lifts correspond to certain abelian varieties defined over the rationals of conductor p. The arithmetic classification is in a companion article by A. Brumer and K. Kramer. The Paramodular Conjecture, supported by these computations and consistent with the Langlands philosophy and the work of H. Yoshida, is a partial extension to degree 2 of the Shimura-Taniyama Conjecture. These nonlift Hecke eigenforms share Euler factors with the…
Let $K$ be a fixed number field, assumed to be Galois over $\mathbb Q$. Let $r$ and $f$ be fixed integers with $f$ positive. Given an elliptic curve $E$, defined over $K$, we consider the problem of counting the number of degree $f$ prime ideals of $K$ with trace of Frobenius equal to $r$. Except in the case $f=2$, we show that "on average," the number of such prime ideals with norm less than or equal to $x$ satisfies an asymptotic identity that is in accordance with standard heuristics. This work is related to the classical Lang-Trotter conjecture and extends the work of several authors.
Let $A$ be an abelian variety over $\mathbb{Q}$ of dimension $g$ such that the image of its associated absolute Galois representation $ρ_A$ is open in $\operatorname{GSp}_{2g}(\hat{\mathbb{Z}})$. We investigate the arithmetic of the traces $a_{1, p}$ of the Frobenius at $p$ in $\operatorname{Gal}(\overline{\mathbb{Q}}/\mathbb{Q})$ under $ρ_A$, modulo varying primes $p$. In particular, we obtain upper bounds for the counting function $\#\{p \leq x: a_{1, p} = t\}$ and we prove an Erdös-Kac type theorem for the number of prime factors of $a_{1, p}$. We also formulate a conjecture about the asymp…
Let K be a number field and let S be a finite set of places of K which contains all the Archimedean places. For any f(z) in K(z) of degree d at least 2 which is not a d-th power in \bar{K}(z), Siegel's theorem implies that the image set f(K) contains only finitely many S-units. We conjecture that the number of such S-units is bounded by a function of |S| and d (independently of K and f). We prove this conjecture for several classes of rational functions, and show that the full conjecture follows from the Bombieri--Lang conjecture.
We present several results related to statistics for elliptic curves over a finite field $\mathbb{F}_p$ as corollaries of a general theorem about averages of Euler products that we demonstrate. In this general framework, we can reprove known results such as the average Lang-Trotter conjecture, the average Koblitz conjecture, and the vertical Sato-Tate conjecture, even for very short intervals, not accessible by previous methods. We also compute statistics for new questions, such as the problem of amicable pairs and aliquot cycles, first introduced by Silverman and Stange. Our technique is rath…
Let $F$ be a $p$-adic field of characteristic 0, and let $M$ be an $F$-Levi subgroup of a connected reductive $F$-split group such that $Π_{i=1}^{r} SL_{n_i} \subseteq M \subseteq Π_{i=1}^{r} GL_{n_i}$ for positive integers $r$ and $n_i$. We prove that the Plancherel measure for any unitary supercuspidal representation of $M(F)$ is identically transferred under \textit{the local Jacquet-Langlands type correspondence} between $M$ and its $F$-inner forms, assuming a working hypothesis that Plancherel measures are invariant on a certain set. This work extends the result of Mui{ć} and Savin (2000)…
