The phase space of a gyrostat with a fixed point and a heavy top is the Lie-Poisson space $\textbf{e}(3)^*\cong \mathbb{R}^3\times \mathbb{R}^3$ dual to the Lie algebra $\textbf{e}(3)$ of Euclidean group $E(3)$. One has three naturally distinguished Poisson submanifolds of $\textbf{e}(3)^*$: (i) the dense open submanifold $\mathbb{R}^3\times \dot{\mathbb{R}}^3\subset \textbf{e}(3)^*$ which consists of all $4$-dimensional symplectic leaves ($\vecΓ^2>0$); (ii) the $5$-dimensional Poisson submanifold of $\mathbb{R}^3\times \dot{\mathbb{R}}^3$ defined by $\vec{J}\cdot \vecΓ = μ||\vecΓ||$; (iii) the $5$-dimensional Poisson submanifold of $\mathbb{R}^3\times \dot{\mathbb{R}}^3$ defined by $\vecΓ^2 = ν^2$, where $\dot{\mathbb{R}}^3:= \mathbb{R}^3\backslash \{0\}$, $(\vec{J}, \vecΓ)\in \mathbb{R}^3\times \mathbb{R}^3\cong \textbf{e}(3)^*$ and $ν< 0 $, $μ$ are some fixed real parameters. Basing on the $U(2,2)$-invariant symplectic structure of Penrose twistor space we find full and complete $E(3)$-equivariant symplectic realizations of these Poisson submanifolds which are $8$-dimensional for (i) and $6$-dimensional for (ii) and (iii). As a consequence of the above Hamiltonian systems on $\textbf{e}(3)^*$ lift to the ones on the above symplectic realizations. In such a way after lifting integrable cases of gyrostat with a fixed point, as well as of heavy top, we obtain a large family of integrable Hamiltonian systems on the phase spaces defined by these symplectic realizations.
The ground energy level of an oscillator cannot be zero because of Heisenberg's uncertainty principle. We use methods from symplectic topology (Gromov's non-squeezing theorem, and the existence of symplectic capacities) to analyze and extend this heuristic observation to Liouville-integrable systems, and to propose a topological quantization scheme for such systems, thus extending previous results of ours.
We construct integrable Hamiltonian systems with Lie bialgebras $({\bf g} , {\bf \tilde{g}})$ of the bi-symplectic type for which the Poisson-Lie groups ${\bf G}$ play the role of the phase spaces, and their dual Lie groups ${\bf {\tilde {G}}}$ play the role of the symmetry groups of the systems. We give the new transformations to exchange the role of phase spaces and symmetry groups and obtain the relations between integrals of motions of these integrable systems. Finally, we give some examples of real four-dimensional Lie bialgebras of bi-symplectic type.
This paper shows that the left-invariant geodesic flow on the symplectic group relative to the Frobenius metric is an integrable system that is not contained in the Mishchenko-Fomenko class of rigid body metrics. This system may be expressed as a flow on symmetric matrices and is bi-Hamiltonian. This analysis is extended to cover flows on symmetric matrices when an isomorphism with the symplectic Lie algebra does not hold. The two Poisson structures associated with this system, including an analysis of its Casimirs, are completely analyzed. Since the system integrals are not generated by its C…
In this paper we present novel integrable symplectic maps, associated with ordinary difference equations, and show how they determine, in a remarkably diverse manner, the integrability, including Lax pairs and the explicit solutions, for integrable partial difference equations which are the discrete counterparts of integrable partial differential equations of Korteweg-de Vries-type (KdV-type). As a consequence it is demonstrated that several distinct Hamiltonian systems lead to one and the same difference equation by means of the Liouville integrability framework. Thus, these integrable symple…
We consider commuting operators obtained by quantization of Hamiltonians of the Hopf (aka dispersionless KdV) hierarchy. Such operators naturally arise in the setting of Symplectic Field Theory (SFT). A complete set of common eigenvectors of these operators is given by Schur polynomials. We use this result for computing the SFT potential of a disk.
Integrable Hamiltonian systems on almost-symplectic manifolds have recently drawn some attention. Under suitable properties, they have a structure analogous to those of standard symplectic-Hamiltonian completely integrable systems. Here we study small Hamiltonian perturbations of these systems. Preliminarily, we investigate some general properties of these systems. In particular, we show that if the perturbation is `strongly Hamiltonian' (namely, its Hamiltonian vector field is also a symmetry of the almost-Hamiltonian structure) then the system reduces, under an almost-symplectic version of s…
We investigate discretizations of the integrable discrete nonlinear Schrödinger dynamical system and related symplectic structures. We develop an effective scheme of invariant reducing the corresponding infinite system of ordinary differential equations to an equivalent finite system of ordinary differential equations with respect to the evolution parameter. We construct a finite set of recurrent algebraic regular relations allowing to generate solutions of the discrete nonlinear Schrödinger dynamical system and we discuss the related functional spaces of solutions. Finally, we discuss the Fou…
To provide tools, especially L-operators, for use in studies of rational Yang-Baxter algebras and quantum integrable models when the Lie algebras so(N) (b_n, d_n) or sp(2n) (c_n) are the invariance algebras of their R matrices, this paper develops a presentation of these Lie algebras convenient for the context, and derives many properties of the matrices of their defining representations and of the ad-invariant tensors that enter their multiplication laws. Metaplectic-type representations of sp(2n) and so(N) on bosonic and on fermionic Fock spaces respectively are constructed. Concise general …
This paper develops a symplectic bifurcation theory for integrable systems in dimension four. We prove that if an integrable system has no hyperbolic singularities and its bifurcation diagram has no vertical tangencies, then the fibers of the induced singular Lagrangian fibration are connected. The image of this singular Lagrangian fibration is, up to smooth deformations, a planar region bounded by the graphs of two continuous functions. The bifurcation diagram consists of the boundary points in this image plus a countable collection of rank zero singularities, which are contained in the inter…
We give a construction of completely integrable 4-dimensional Hamiltonian systems with cubic Hamilton functions. Applying to the corresponding pairs of commuting quadratic Hamiltonian vector fields the so called Kahan-Hirota-Kimura discretization scheme, we arrive at pairs of birational 4-dimensional maps. We show that these maps are symplectic with respect to a symplectic structure that is a perturbation of the standard symplectic structure on $\mathbb R^4$, and possess two independent integrals of motion, which are perturbations of the original Hamilton functions. Thus, these maps are comple…
We provide an alternative method for obtaining of compatible Poisson structures on Lie groups by means of the adjoint representations of Lie algebras. In this way, we calculate some compatible Poisson structures on four dimensional and nilpotent six dimensional symplectic real Lie groups. Then using Magri-Morosi's theorem we obtain new bi-Hamiltonian systems with four dimensional and nilpotent six dimensional symplectic real Lie groups as phase spaces.
The classical Arnold-Liouville theorem describes the geometry of an integrable Hamiltonian system near a regular level set of the moment map. Our results describe it near a nondegenerate singular level set: a tubular neighborhood of a connected singular nondegenerate level set, after a normal finite covering, admits a non-complete system of action-angle functions (the number of action functions is equal to the rank of the moment map), and it can be decomposed topologically, together with the associated singular Lagrangian foliation, to a direct product of simplest (codimension 1 and codimensio…
We give a construction of completely integrable ($2n$)-dimensional Hamiltonian systems with symplectic brackets of the Lie-Poisson type (linear in coordinates) and with quadratic Hamilton functions. Applying to any such system the so called Kahan-Hirota-Kimura discretization scheme, we arrive at a birational ($2n$)-dimensional map. We show that this map is symplectic with respect to a symplectic structure that is a perturbation of the original symplectic structure on $\mathbb R^{2n}$, and possesses $n$ independent integrals of motion, which are perturbations of the original Hamilton functions …
We give a construction of completely integrable $(2m)$-dimensional Hamiltonian systems with cubic Hamilton functions. The construction depends on a constant skew-Hamiltonian matrix $A$, that is, a matrix satisfying $A^{\rm T}J=JA$, where $J$ is a non-degenerate skew-symmetric matrix defining the standard symplectic structure on the phase space $\mathbb R^{2m}$. Applying to any such system the so called Kahan-Hirota-Kimura discretization scheme, we arrive at a birational $(2m)$-dimensional map. We show that this map is symplectic with respect to a symplectic structure that is a perturbation of …
In this paper we attempt a self-contained approach to infinite dimensional Hamiltonian systems appearing from holomorphic curve counting in Gromov-Witten theory. It consists of two parts. The first one is basically a survey of Dubrovin's approach to bihamiltonian tau-symmetric systems and their relation with Frobenius manifolds. We will mainly focus on the dispersionless case, with just some hints on Dubrovin's reconstruction of the dispersive tail. The second part deals with the relation of such systems to rational Gromov-Witten and Symplectic Field Theory. We will use Symplectic Field theory…
In this short note we show how Dubrovin's integrable hierarchies, defined using the Gromov-Witten theory of a closed symplectic manifold, generalizes to Hamiltonian Floer theory. In particular, we show how the required generalization of the PSS isomorphism, relating Gromov-Witten theory and Hamiltonian Floer theory, can be constructed in the framework of Eliashberg-Givental-Hofer's symplectic field theory.
We associate cotangent models to a neighbourhood of a Liouville torus in symplectic and Poisson manifolds focusing on a special class called $b$-Poisson/$b$-symplectic manifolds. The semilocal equivalence with such models uses the corresponding action-angle coordinate theorems in these settings: the theorem of Liouville-Mineur-Arnold [A74] for symplectic manifolds and an action-angle theorem for regular Liouville tori in Poisson manifolds [LMV11]. Our models comprise regular Liouville tori of Poisson manifolds but also consider the Liouville tori on the singular locus of a $b$-Poisson manifold…
We consider nonlinear recurrences generated from the iteration of maps that arise from cluster algebras. More precisely, starting from a skew-symmetric integer matrix, or its corresponding quiver, one can define a set of mutation operations, as well as a set of associated cluster mutations that are applied to a set of affine coordinates (the cluster variables). Fordy and Marsh recently provided a complete classification of all such quivers that have a certain periodicity property under sequences of mutations. This periodicity implies that a suitable sequence of cluster mutations is precisely e…
We provide a symplectic reduction of a partially integrable Hamiltonian system to a completely integrable one. The KAM theorem is applied to this reduced completely integrable Hamiltonian system. Its KAM perturbation generates a perturbation of the original partially integrable system such that the set of tori kept by this perturbation is large.
We classify all the quadratic Poisson structures on $so^*(4)$ and $e^*(3)$, which have the same foliation by symplectic leaves as the canonical Lie-Poisson tensors. The separated variables for the some of the corresponding bi-integrable systems are constructed.
We prove the action-angle theorem in the general, and most natural, context of integrable systems on Poisson manifolds, thereby generalizing the classical proof, which is given in the context of symplectic manifolds. The topological part of the proof parallels the proof of the symplectic case, but the rest of the proof is quite different, since we are naturally led to using the calculus of polyvector fields, rather than differential forms; in particular, we use in the end a Poisson version of the classical Caratheodory-Jacobi-Lie theorem, which we also prove. At the end of the article, we gene…
Motivated by the recent connection between nonholonomic integrable systems and twisted Poisson manifolds made in \cite{balseiro_garcia_naranjo}, this paper investigates the global theory of integrable Hamiltonian systems on almost symplectic manifolds as an initial step to understand Hamiltonian integrability on twisted Poisson (and Dirac) manifolds. Non-commutative integrable Hamiltonian systems on almost symplectic manifolds were first defined in \cite{fasso_sansonetto}, which proved existence of local generalised action-angle coordinates in the spirit of the Liouville-Arnol'd theorem. In an…
Symplectic invariants introduced in math-ph/0702045 can be computed for an arbitrary spectral curve. For some examples of spectral curves, those invariants can solve loop equations of matrix integrals, and many problems of enumerative geometry like maps, partitions, Hurwitz numbers, intersection numbers, Gromov-Witten invariants... The problem is thus to understand what they count, or in other words, given a spectral curve, construct an enumerative geometry problem. This is what we do in a semi-heuristic approach in this article. Starting from a spectral curve, i.e. an integrable system, we us…
We obtain compatible Hamiltonian and symplectic structure for a new two-component fifth-order integrable system recently found by Mikhailov, Novikov and Wang (arXiv:0712.1972), and show that this system possesses a hereditary recursion operator and infinitely many commuting symmetries and conservation laws, as well as infinitely many compatible Hamiltonian and symplectic structures, and is therefore completely integrable. The system in question admits a reduction to the Kaup--Kupershmidt equation.
In this work we study some symplectic submanifolds in the cotangent bundle of a factorizable Lie group defined by second class constraints. By applying the Dirac method, we study many issues of these spaces as fundamental Dirac brackets, symmetries, and collective dynamics. This last item allows to study integrability as inherited from a system on the whole cotangent bundle, leading in a natural way to the AKS theory for integrable systems.
The subject of this paper is degenerate integrability in Hamiltonian mechanics. It starts with a short survey of degenerate integrability. The first section contains basic notions. It is followed by a number of examples which include the Kepler system, Casimir models, spin Calogero models, spin Ruijsenaars models, and integrable models on symplectic leaves of Poisson Lie groups. The new results are degenerate integrability of relativistic spin Ruijsenaars and Calogero-Moser systems and the duality between them.
A new method to construct Hamiltonian functions in involution is presented. We show that on left-symmetric algebras a Nijenhuis-tensor is given in a natural manner by the usual right-multiplication. Furthermore we prove that symplectic Lie-algebras carry the structure of a Poisson-Nijenhuis manifold.
Given a geometric structure on $\mathbb{R}^{n}$ with $n$ even (e.g. Euclidean, symplectic, Minkowski, pseudo-Euclidean), we analyze the set of points inside the domain of definition of an arbitrary given $\mathcal{C}^1$ vector field, where the value of the vector field equals the value of the left/right gradient--like vector field of some fixed $\mathcal{C}^2$ potential function, although a non-integrability condition holds at each such a point. Particular examples of gradient--like vector fields include the class of gradient vector fields with respect to Euclidean or pseudo-Euclidean inner pr…
We study polynomial Poisson algebras with some regularity conditions. Linear (Lie-Berezin-Kirillov) structures on dual spaces of semi-simple Lie algebras, quadratic Sklyanin elliptic algebras of \cite{FO1},\cite{FO2} as well as polynomial algebras recently described by Bondal-Dubrovin-Ugaglia (\cite{Bondal},\cite{Ug}) belong to this class. We establish some simple determinantal relations between the brackets and Casimirs in this algebras. These relations imply in particular that for Sklyanin elliptic algebras the sum of Casimir degrees coincides with the dimension of the algebra. We are discus…
The group of automorphisms of the geometry of an integrable system is considered. The geometrical structure used to obtain it is provided by a normal form representation of integrable systems that do not depend on any additional geometrical structure like symplectic, Poisson, etc. Such geometrical structure provides a generalized toroidal bundle on the carrier space of the system. Non--canonical diffeomorphisms of such structure generate alternative Hamiltonian structures for complete integrable Hamiltonian systems. The energy-period theorem provides the first non--trivial obstruction for the …
A natural way of generalising Hamiltonian toric manifolds is to permit the presence of generic isolated singularities for the moment map. For a class of such ``almost-toric 4-manifolds'' which admits a Hamiltonian $S^1$-action we show that one can associate a group of convex polygons that generalise the celebrated moment polytopes of Atiyah, Guillemin-Sternberg. As an application, we derive a Duistermaat-Heckman formula demonstrating a strong effect of the possible monodromy of the underlying integrable system.
We extend Hardy's uncertainty principle for a square integrable function and its Fourier transform to the multidimensional case using a symplectic diagonalization. We use this extension to show that Hardy's uncertainty principle is equivalent to a statement on the Wigner distribution of the function. We give a geometric interpretation of our results in terms of the notion of symplectic capacity of an ellipsoid. Furthermore, we show that Hardy's uncertainty principle is valid for a general Lagrangian frame of the phase space. Finally, we discuss an extension of Hardy's theorem for the Wigner di…
A construction of multidimensional parametric Yang-Baxter maps is presented. The corresponding Lax matrices are the symplectic leaves of first degree matrix polynomials equipped with the Sklyanin bracket. These maps are symplectic with respect to the reduced symplectic structure on these leaves and provide examples of integrable mappings. An interesting family of quadrirational symplectic YB maps on $\mathbb{C}^4 \times \mathbb{C}^4$ with $3\times 3$ Lax matrices is also presented.
We study gauge transformations of Dirac structures and the relationship between gauge and Morita equivalences of Poisson manifolds. We describe how the symplectic structure of a symplectic groupoid is affected by a gauge transformation of the Poisson structure on its identity section, and prove that gauge-equivalent integrable Poisson structures are Morita equivalent. As an example, we study certain generic sets of Poisson structures on Riemann surfaces: we find complete gauge-equivalence invariants for such structures which, on the 2-sphere, yield a complete invariant of Morita equivalence.
We study local normal forms for completely integrable systems on Poisson manifolds in the presence of additional symmetries. The symmetries that we consider are encoded in actions of compact Lie groups. The existence of Weinstein's splitting theorem for the integrable system is also studied giving some examples in which such a splitting does not exist, i.e. when the integrable system is not, locally, a product of an integrable system on the symplectic leaf and an integrable system on a transversal. The problem of splitting for integrable systems with additional symmetries is also considered.
We discuss the role of Poisson-Nijenhuis geometry in the definition of multiplicative integrable models on symplectic groupoids. These are integrable models that are compatible with the groupoid structure in such a way that the set of contour levels of the hamiltonians in involution inherits a topological groupoid structure. We show that every maximal rank PN structure defines such a model. We consider the examples defined on compact hermitian symmetric spaces and studied in [arXiv:1503.07339].
A tensorial approach to the theory of classical Hamiltonian integrable systems is proposed, based on the geometry of Haantjes tensors. We introduce the class of symplectic-Haantjes manifolds (or $ω\mathscr{H}$ manifolds), as a natural setting where the notion of integrability can be formulated. We prove that the existence of suitable Haantjes algebras of (1,1) tensor fields with vanishing Haantjes torsion is a necessary and sufficient condition for a Hamiltonian system to be integrable in the Liouville-Arnold sense. We also show that new integrable models arise from the Haantjes geometry. Fina…
