The classical Arnold-Liouville theorem describes the geometry of an integrable Hamiltonian system near a regular level set of the moment map. Our results describe it near a nondegenerate singular level set: a tubular neighborhood of a connected singular nondegenerate level set, after a normal finite covering, admits a non-complete system of action-angle functions (the number of action functions is equal to the rank of the moment map), and it can be decomposed topologically, together with the associated singular Lagrangian foliation, to a direct product of simplest (codimension 1 and codimension 2) singularities. These results are essential for the global topological study of integrable Hamiltonian systems.
Under ceratin conditions, generalized action-angle coordinates can be introduced near non-compact invariant manifolds of completely and partially integrable Hamiltonian systems.
A symplectic theory approach is devised for solving the problem of algebraic-analytical construction of integral submanifold imbeddings for integrable (via the nonabelian Liouville-Arnold theorem) Hamiltonian systems on canonically symplectic phase spaces.

This paper studies the existence of invariant smooth Lagrangian graphs for Tonelli Hamiltonian systems with symmetries. In particular, we consider Tonelli Hamiltonians with n independent but not necessarily involutive constants of motion and obtain two theorems reminiscent of the Liouville-Arnold theorem. Moreover, we also obtain results on the structure of the configuration spaces of such systems that are reminiscent of results on the configuration space of completely integrable Tonelli Hamiltonians.
In this paper we study the integrability of the Hamiltonian system associated to the fourth Painlevé equation. We prove that one two parametric family of this Hamiltonian system is not integrable in the sense of the Liouville-Arnold theorem. Computing explicitly the Stokes matrices and the formal invariants of the second variational equations we deduce that the connected component of the unit element of the corresponding Galois grou is not Abelian. Thus the Morales-Ramis-Simó theory leads to a non-integrable result. Moreover, combining the new result with our previous one we establish that for…
The problem of scattering of particles on the line with repulsive interactions, gives rise to some well-known integrable Hamiltonian systems, for example, the nonperiodic Toda lattice or Calogero's system. The aim of this note is to outline our researches which proved the integrability of a much larger class of systems, including some that had never been considered, such as the scattering with very-long-range interaction potential. The integrability of all these systems survives any small enough perturbation of the potential in an arbitrary compact set. Our framework is based on the concept of…
The Arnold conjecture states that a Hamiltonian diffeomorphism of a closed and connected symplectic manifold must have at least as many fixed points as the minimal number of critical points of a smooth function on the manifold. It is well known that the Arnold conjecture holds for Hamiltonian homeomorphisms of closed symplectic surfaces. The goal of this paper is to provide a counterexample to the Arnold conjecture for Hamiltonian homeomorphisms in dimensions four and higher. More precisely, we prove that every closed and connected symplectic manifold of dimension at least four admits a Hamilt…
In this note we observe that Arnold conjecture for the Hamiltonian maps still holds on weighted projective spaces $\CP^n({\bf q})$, and that Arnold conjecture for the Lagrange intersections for $(\CP^n({\bf q}), \RP^n({\bf q}))$ is also true if each weight $q_i\in {\bf q}=\{q_1,..., q_{n+1}\}$ is odd.
The pentagram map is a discrete dynamical system defined on the moduli space of polygons in the projective plane. This map has recently attracted a considerable interest, mostly because its connection to a number of different domains, such as: classical projective geometry, algebraic combinatorics, moduli spaces, cluster algebras and integrable systems. Integrability of the pentagram map was conjectured by R. Schwartz and later proved by V. Ovsienko, R. Schwartz and S. Tabachnikov for a larger space of twisted polygons. In this paper, we prove the initial conjecture that the pentagram map is c…
We associate cotangent models to a neighbourhood of a Liouville torus in symplectic and Poisson manifolds focusing on a special class called $b$-Poisson/$b$-symplectic manifolds. The semilocal equivalence with such models uses the corresponding action-angle coordinate theorems in these settings: the theorem of Liouville-Mineur-Arnold [A74] for symplectic manifolds and an action-angle theorem for regular Liouville tori in Poisson manifolds [LMV11]. Our models comprise regular Liouville tori of Poisson manifolds but also consider the Liouville tori on the singular locus of a $b$-Poisson manifold…
We give a detailed proof of the homological Arnold conjecture for nondegenerate periodic Hamiltonians on general closed symplectic manifolds $M$ via a direct Piunikhin-Salamon-Schwarz morphism. Our constructions are based on a coherent polyfold description for moduli spaces of pseudoholomorphic curves in a family of symplectic manifolds degenerating from $\mathbb{C}\mathbb{P}^1\times M$ to $\mathbb{C}^+ \times M$ and $\mathbb{C}^-\times M$, as developed by Fish-Hofer-Wysocki-Zehnder as part of the Symplectic Field Theory package. To make the paper self-contained we include all polyfold assumpt…
We assume that a symplectic real-analytic map has an invariant normally hyperbolic cylinder and an associated transverse homoclinic cylinder. It is well known that such cylinder is preserved under small perturbations. We prove that for a generic real- analytic perturbation of this map the boundaries of the cylinder are connected by trajectories of the perturbed map.
We introduce GBDT version of Darboux transformation for symplectic and Hamiltonian systems as well as for Shin-Zettl systems and Sturm-Liouville equations. These are the first results on Darboux transformation for general-type Hamiltonian and for Shin-Zettl systems. The obtained results are applied to the corresponding transformations of the Weyl-Titchmarsh functions and to the construction of explicit solutions of dynamical symplectic systems, of two-way diffusion equations and of indefinite Sturm-Liouville equations. The energy of the explicit solutions of dynamical systems is expressed (in …
Standard (Arnold-Liouville) integrable systems are intimately related to complex rotations. One can define a generalization of these, sharing many of their properties, where complex rotations are replaced by quaternionic ones. Actually this extension is not limited to the integrable case: one can define a generalization of Hamilton dynamics based on hyperKahler structures.
The KAM (Kolmogorov-Arnold-Moser) theorem guarantees the stability of quasi-periodic invariant tori by perturbation in some Hamiltonian systems. Michel Herman proved a similar result for quasi-periodic motions, with $k$-dimensional involutive manifolds in Hamiltonian systems with $n$ degrees of freedom $n \leq k < 2n $. In this paper, we extend this result to the case of a quasi-periodic motion on symplectic tori $k = 2n$.
I outline the history and the original proof of the Arnold conjecture on fixed points of Hamiltonian maps for the special case of the torus, leading to a sketch of the proof for general symplectic manifolds and to Floer homology. This is the written version of my talk at the Geometric Dynamics Days 2017 (February 3-4) at the RUB in Bochum.
The two main results of this paper concern the regularity of the invariant foliation of a C0-integrable symplectic twist diffeomorphisms of the 2-dimensional annulus, namely that $\bullet$ the generating function of such a foliation is C1 ; $\bullet$ the foliation is H{ö}lder with exponent 1/2. We also characterize foliations by graphs that are straightenable via a symplectic homeomorphism and prove that every symplectic homeomorphism that leaves invariant all the leaves of a straightenable foliation has Arnol'd-Liouville coordinates, in which the Dynamics restricted to the leaves is conjugate…
For any closed symplectic manifold, we show that the number of 1-periodic orbits of a nondegenerate Hamiltonian thereon is bounded from below by a version of total Betti number over Z of the ambient space taking account of the total Betti number over Q and torsions of all characteristic. The proof is based on constructing a Hamiltonian Floer theory over the Novikov ring with integer coefficients, which generalizes our earlier work for constructing integer-valued Gromov-Witten type invariants. In the course of the construction, we build a Hamiltonian Floer flow category with compatible smooth g…
The purpose of this paper is to study the relation between the $C^0$-topology and the topology induced by the spectral norm on the group of Hamiltonian diffeomorphisms of a closed symplectic manifold. Following the approach of Buhovsky-Humilière-Seyfaddini, we prove the $C^0$-continuity of the spectral norm for complex projective spaces and negative monotone symplectic manifolds. The case of complex projective spaces provides an alternative approach to the $C^0$-continuity of the spectral norm proven by Shelukhin. We also prove a partial $C^0$-continuity of the spectral norm for rational sympl…
This paper explains the recent developments on the symplectic theory of Hamiltonian completely integrable systems on symplectic 4-manifolds, compact or not. One fundamental ingredient of these developments has been the understanding of singular affine structures. These developments make use of results obtained by many authors in the second half of the twentieth century, notably Arnold, Duistermaat and Eliasson, of which we also give a concise survey. As a motivation, we present a collection of remarkable results proven in the early and mid 1980s in the theory of Hamiltonian Lie group actions b…
According to the Arnold conjectures and Floer's proofs, there are non-trivial lower bounds for the number of periodic solutions of Hamiltonian differential equations on a closed symplectic manifold whose symplectic form vanishes on spheres. We use an iterated graph construction and Lagrangian Floer homology to show that these lower bounds also hold for certain Hamiltonian delay equations.
A wandering domain for a diffeomorphism is an open connected set whose iterates are pairwise disjoint. We endow A^n = T^n x R^n with its usual exact symplectic structure. An integrable diffeomorphism Φ^h, i.e. the time-one map of a Hamiltonian h which depends only on the action variables, has no nonempty wandering domains. The aim of this paper is to estimate the size (measure and Gromov capacity) of wandering domains in the case of an exact symplectic perturbation of Φ^h , in the analytic or Gevrey category. Upper estimates are related to Nekhoroshev theory, lower estimates are related to exa…
We describe a variational approach to a notion of Hamiltonian delay equations. Our delay Hamiltonians are of product form. We consider several examples. For closed symplectically aspherical symplectic manifolds $(M,ω)$ we prove that for generic delay Hamiltonians the number of 1-periodic solutions of the Hamiltonian delay equation is at least the sum of the Betti numbers of $M$, extending the proof of the Arnold conjecture to the case with delay.
Our first main result states that the spectral norm on the group of Hamiltonian diffeomorphisms, introduced in the works of Viterbo, Schwarz and Oh, is continuous with respect to the C^0 topology, when M is symplectically aspherical. This statement was previously proven only in the case of closed surfaces. As a corollary, using a recent result of Kislev and Shelukhin, we obtain C^0 continuity of barcodes on aspherical symplectic manifolds, and furthermore define barcodes for Hamiltonian homeomorphisms. We also present several applications to Hofer geometry and dynamics of Hamiltonian homeomorp…
We use Floer homology to study the Hofer-Zehnder capacity of neighborhoods near a closed symplectic submanifold M of a geometrically bounded and symplectically aspherical ambient manifold. We prove that, when the unit normal bundle of M is homologically trivial in degree dim(M) (for example, if codim(M) > dim(M)), a refined version of the Hofer-Zehnder capacity is finite for all open sets close enough to M. We compute this capacity for certain tubular neighborhoods of M by using a squeezing argument in which the algebraic framework of Floer theory is used to detect nontrivial periodic orbits. …
We consider magnetic flows on compact quotients of the 3-dimensional solvable geometry Sol determined by the usual left-invariant metric and the distinguished monopole. We show that these flows have positive Liouville entropy and therefore are never completely integrable. This should be compared with the known fact that the underlying geodesic flow is completely integrable in spite of having positive topological entropy. We also show that for a large class of twisted cotangent bundles of solvable manifolds every compact set is displaceable.
