In this paper, we prove that every homogeneous Landsberg surface has isotropic flag curvature. Using this special form of the flag curvature, we prove a rigidity result on homogeneous Landsberg surface. Indeed, we prove that every homogeneous Landsberg surface is Riemannian or locally Minkowskian. This gives a positive answer to the Xu-Deng's well-known conjecture in 2-dimensional homogeneous Finsler manifolds.
In this paper, we study left invariant conic Finsler metrics on the 2-dimensional non-Abelian Lie group $G$ with nowhere vanishing spray vector fields, and classify those satisfying the constant curvature condition, the Landsberg condition or the Berwald condition respectively. We prove that any left invariant conic Landsberg metric on $G$ must be Berwald. This discovery enable us to propose a homogeneous conic Landsberg Conjecture, which guesses that every homogeneous conic Landsberg metric is Berwald, and prove the 2-dimensional case for it.
In this paper, we introduce a new look at Finsler surfaces. Landsberg surfaces are Finsler surfaces that are solutions of a system of non-linear partial differential equations. Considering the unicorn's Landsberg problem, we reduce this system to a single non-linear PDE which we call the Landsberg's PDE. By making use of the new look of Finsler surfaces, we solve the Landsberg's PDE and get a class of solutions. Moreover, we show that these solutions and their conformal transformations are Berwaldain.
In this paper, we prove that all spherically symmetric Landsberg surfaces are Berwaldian. We modify the classification of spherically symmetric Finsler metrics, done by the author in [S. G. Elgendi, On the classification of Landsberg spherically symmetric Finsler metrics, Int. J. Geom. Methods Mod. Phys. 18 (2021)], of Berwald type of dimension $n\geq 3$. Precisely, we show that all Berwald spherically symmetric metrics of dimension $n\geq 3$ are Riemannian or given by a certain formula. As a simple class of Berwaldian metrics, we prove that all spherically symmetric metrics in which the funct…
In this note, we show that the examples of non Berwaldian Landsberg surfaces with vanishing flag curvature, obtained in \cite{Zhou}, are in fact Berwaldian. Consequently, Bryant's claim is still unverified.
We use the technique of invariant frames to study a left invariant spray structure on a Lie group, and calculate its S-curvature and Riemann curvature, which generalizes the corresponding formulae in homogeneous Finsler geometry. Using the canonical bi-invariant Berwald spray structure as the reference, any left invariant spray structure can be associated with a spray vector field on the Lie algebra. We find the correspondence between geodesics for a left invariant spray structure and the inverse integral curves of its spray vector field. As an application for this correspondence, we provide a…
We compute all the simply connected homogeneous and infinitesimally homogeneous surfaces admitting one or more invariant affine connections. We find exactly six non equivalent simply connected homogeneous surfaces admitting more than one invariant connections and four classes of simply connected homogeneous surfaces admitting exactly one invariant connection.
In this note we consider homogeneous Willmore surfaces in $S^{n+2}$. The main result is that a homogeneous Willmore two-sphere is conformally equivalent to a homogeneous minimal two-sphere in $S^{n+2}$, i.e., either a round two-sphere or one of the Borůvka-Veronese 2-spheres in $S^{2m}$. This entails a classification of all Willmore $\mathbb{C} P^1$ in $S^{2m}$. As a second main result we show that there exists no homogeneous Willmore upper-half plane in $S^{n+2}$ and we give, in terms of special constant potentials, a simple loop group characterization of all homogeneous surfaces which have a…
We find a spinorial representation of a Riemannian or Lorentzian surface in a Lorentzian homogeneous space of dimension $3.$ We in particular obtain a representation theorem for surfaces in the $\mathbb{L}(κ,τ)$ spaces. We then recover the Calabi correspondence between minimal surfaces in $\mathbb{R}^3$ and maximal surfaces in $\mathbb{R}_1^3$, and obtain a new Lawson type correspondence between CMC surfaces in $\mathbb{R}_1^3$ and in the 3-dimensional pseudo-hyperbolic space $\mathbb{H}_1^{3}.$
We classify Riemannian surfaces admitting associated families in three dimensional homogeneous spaces with four-dimensional isometry groups and in a wide family of (semi-Riemannian) warped products, with an extra natural condition (namely, rotating structure vector field). We prove that, provided the surface is not totally umbilical, such families exist in both cases if, and only if, the ambient manifold is a product and the surface is minimal. In particular, there exists no associated families of surfaces with rotating structure vector field in the Heisenberg group.
We give a new short self-contained proof of the result of Opozda [B. Opozda, A classification of locally homogeneous connections on 2-dimensional manifolds, Differential Geom. Appl. 21 (2004), 173-198.] classifying the locally homogeneous torsion free affine surfaces and the extension to the case of surfaces with torsion due to Arias-Marco and Kowalski [T. Arias-Marco and O. Kowalski, Classification of locally homogeneous linear connections with arbitrary torsion on 2-dimensional manifolds, Monatsh. Math. 153 (2008), 1-18.]. Our approach rests on a direct analysis of the affine Killing equatio…
Let $\mathcal{M}$ be a Type $\mathcal{A}$ affine surface. We show that $\mathcal{M}$ is linearly strongly projectively flat. We use the quasi-Einstein equation together with the condition that $\mathcal{M}$ is strongly projectively flat to examine to examine the geodesic completeness of $\mathcal{M}$.
We examine the space of solutions to the affine quasi--Einstein equation in the context of homogeneous surfaces. As these spaces can be used to create gradient Yamabe solitions, conformally Einstein metrics, and warped product Einstein manifolds using the modified Riemannian extension, we provide very explicit descriptions of these solution spaces. We use the dimension of the space of affine Killing vector fields to structure our discussion as this provides a convenient organizational framework.
We examine the topology of various spaces of locally homogeneous affine manifolds which arise from the classification result of Opozda [B. Opozda, A classification of locally homogeneous connections on 2-dimensional manifolds, Differential Geom. Appl. 21 (2004), 173-198.] as orbits of the action of $GL(2,\mathbb{R})$ (Type $\mathcal{A}$) and the $ax+b$ group (Type $\mathcal{B}$). We determine the topology of the spaces of Type $\mathcal{A}$ models in relation to the rank of the Ricci tensor. We determine the topology of the spaces of Type $\mathcal{B}$ models which either are flat or where the…
We provide an explicit classification of the following four families of surfaces in any homogeneous 3-manifold with 4-dimensional isometry group: isoparametric surfaces, surfaces with constant principal curvatures, homogeneous surfaces, and surfaces with constant mean curvature and vanishing Abresch-Rosenberg differential.
