The bulk reconstruction program aims to obtain representations of bulk fields as operators in the boundary CFT. In this paper we extend the program by obtaining the boundary representation for a scalar field in a rotating BTZ black hole. We find that the representation of the field near the inner horizon shows novel features. We also obtain a representation for fields inside the horizon as operators in a single boundary CFT using mirror operator construction.
In this paper we show that the entropy of black hole horizon in charged rotating BTZ space-time can be described by the Cardy-Verlinde formula, which is supposed to be an entropy formula of conformal field theory in any dimension.
In this paper we obtain the flux of Hawking radiation from Rotating BTZ black holes from gauge and gravitational anomalies point of view. Then we show that the gauge and gravitational anomaly in the BTZ spacetime is cancelled by the total flux of a 2-dimensional blackbody at the Hawking temperature of the spacetime.
In this paper we study the classical dynamics of long strings in AdS3, generalizing our previous study, arXiv:1410.3424 [hep-th], to rotating strings and BTZ black holes. As in the non-rotating case, BTZ black holes are generated in the large tension limit, in which string back-reaction must be taken into account. When back-reaction is properly accounted for, collapsing heavy, physical, rotating strings do not generate naked singularities but only BTZ black holes, including extremal ones. The rotating string must contain world-sheet excitations in order to have consistent equations of motion; …
In this paper, we investigate the entanglement entropy of the rotating BTZ black hole perturbed by a massive back-reacting free falling particle. Then, mutual information between two finite intervals in two asymptotic regions of rotating BTZ is derived. It allows us to find the scrambling time, the time scale in which mutual information vanishes. We give a dual large $c$ CFT description in terms of a thermofield double state with different temperatures for left and right moving modes that is perturbed by a local operator. Exact matching between gravity and CFT results is obtained.
The aim of this paper is to study the thermodynamics variables of non-rotating BTZ black hole in 2+1 dimensional using two models; one of them is the quantum hydrogen atom model, and the other is the Collapsed Shell Model. We calculate the thermodynamics variables (temperature, entropy, thermodynamics volume and heat capacity) in presence of the minimal length f. Also calculate the efficiency of holographic heat engine in absence of the minimal length for the four cases; uncharged and non-rotating, charged and non-rotating, uncharged and rotating, charged and rotating BTZ black hole respective…
In this paper, by using the quasi-normal frequencies for non-rotating BTZ black hole derived by Cardos and Lemos, also via Bohr-Sommerfeld quantization for an adiabatic invariant, $I=\int {dE\over ω(E)}$, which $E$ is the energy of system and $ω(E)$ is vibrational frequency, we leads to an equally spaced mass spectrum. The result for the area of event horizon is $A_{n}=2π\sqrt{\frac{nm \hbar}Λ}$ which is not equally spaced, in contrast with area spectrum of black hole in higher dimension.
$AdS_3$ space-time admits a foliation by two-dimensional twisted conjugacy classes, stable under the identification subgroup yielding the non-rotating massive BTZ black hole. Each leaf constitutes a classical solution of the space-time Dirac-Born-Infeld action, describing an open D-string in $AdS_3$ or a D-string winding around the black hole. We first describe two nonequivalent maximal extensions of the non-rotating massive BTZ space-time and observe that in one of them, each D-string worldsheet admits an action of a two-parameter subgroup ($\ca \cn$) of $\SL$. We then construct non-formal, $…
This work presents a generalization of the rotating black hole in two plus one dimensions, in the light of scale--dependent gravitational couplings. In particular, the gravitational coupling $κ_0$ and the cosmological term $Λ_0$ are not forced to be constants anymore. Instead, $κ$ and $Λ$ are allowed to change along the radial scale $r$. The effective Einstein field equations of this problem are solved by assuming static rotational symmetry and by maintaining the usual structure of the line element. For this generalized solution, the asymptotic behavior, the horizon structure, and the thermody…
We study the perturbation due to rotating shockwaves in BTZ geometries at late times and analyse the change in Mutual Information between the two subsystems belonging to the dual CFT$_L$ and CFT$_R$. We find that the scrambling of Mutual Information is in general governed by the Lyapunov index $λ_L$ which is bounded by $κ=\frac{2π}{β(1-μ\mathcal{L})}\geq \frac{2π}β$ where $μ=r_-/r_+$ and $\mathcal{L}$ is the angular momentum of the shockwave. For the special case of $\mathcal{L}$=$1$ we find the Mutual Information analytically and show that it is characterized by $λ_L=κ/2$ with the scrambling …
The change in Holographic entanglement entropy (HEE) for small fluctuations about pure AdS is given by a perturbative expansion of the area functional in terms of the change in the bulk metric and the embedded extremal surface. However it is known that change in the embedding appear at second order or higher. In this paper we show that these changes in the embedding can be systematically calculated in the 2+1 dimensional case by accounting for the deviation of the spacelike geodesics between a spacetime and perturbations over it. Here we consider rotating BTZ as perturbation over $AdS_3$ and s…
We compute out-of-time-order correlators (OTOCs) in two-dimensional holographic conformal field theories (CFTs) with different left- and right-moving temperatures. Depending on whether the CFT lives on a spatial line or circle, the dual bulk geometry is a boosted BTZ black brane or a rotating BTZ black hole. In the case when the spatial direction is non-compact, we generalise a computation of Roberts and Stanford and show that to reproduce the correct bulk answer a maximal channel contribution needs to be selected when using the identity block approximation. We use the correspondence between g…
This paper has two parts. First we review the description of local bulk operators in Lorentzian AdS in terms of non-local operators in the boundary CFT. We discuss how bulk locality arises in pure AdS backgrounds and how it is modified at finite N. Next we present some new results on BTZ black holes: local operators can be defined inside the horizon of a finite N BTZ black hole, in a way that suggests the BTZ geometry describes an average over black hole microstates, but with finite N effects resolving the singularity.
We consider charged rotating BTZ black holes in 2+1 dimensions and obtain 1+1 dimensional holographic superconductors on a spatial circle in the context of the $AdS_3/CFT_2$ correspondence. The charged condensate for the boundary superconductor is computed both in the analytic and the numerical framework in a probe limit and a low angular momentum approximation. A critical value of the angular momentum for the onset of superconductivity is established. We also numerically compute the electrical conductivity of the 1+1 dimensional boundary theory on a circle. The conductivity exhibits a depende…
Recent work has shown that the entropy of the non-rotating BTZ black hole can be derived from a dual conformal description at any spatial location. In this followup it is shown that a dual conformal description exists at any spatial location for the rotating BTZ black hole as well. As in the non-rotating case, two copies of the central charge $c^{\pm} = 3\ell/2G$ are recovered and the microcanonical Cardy formula yields the correct Bekenstein-Hawking entropy.
Recently, the AdS/CFT conjecture of Maldacena has been investigated in Lorentzian signature by Balasubramanian et. al. We extend this investigation to Lorentzian BTZ black hole spacetimes, and study the bulk and boundary behaviour of massive scalar fields both in the non-extremal and extremal case. Using the bulk-boundary correspondence, we also evaluate the two-point correlator of operators coupling to the scalar field at the boundary of the spacetime, and find that it satisfies thermal periodic boundary conditions relevant to the Hawking temperature of the BTZ black hole.
We point out an interesting analogy between the BTZ black hole and QHE (Quantum Hall effect) in the (2+1)-dimensional bulk/boundary theories. It is shown that the Chern-Simons/Liouville(Chern-Simons/chiral boson) is an effective description for the BTZ black hole (QHE). Also the IR(bulk)-UV(boundary) connection for a black hole information bound is realized as the UV(low-lying excitations on bulk)-IR(long-range excitations on boundary) connection in the QHE. An inflow of conformal anomaly($c=1$ central charge) onto the timelike boundary of AdS$_3$ by the Noether current corresponds to an inflo…
We present the thermodynamics of a charged and rotating BTZ black holes here. In particular, we derive expressions for various macroscopic thermal quantities such as entropy, Hawking temperature, Helmholtz free energy, internal energy, enthalpy, Gibbs free energy, and specific heat. To study the effects of small statistical thermal fluctuations around the equilibrium on thermodynamics, we calculated the leading-order corrections to the various thermodynamical potentials of charged and rotating BTZ black hole and do comparative analysis for the fixed values of charge and angular momentum.
We obtain rotating black hole solutions to the novel 3D Gauss-Bonnet theory of gravity recently proposed. These solutions generalize the BTZ metric and are not of constant curvature. They possess an ergoregion and outer horizon, but do not have an inner horizon. We present their basic properties and show that they break the universality of thermodynamics present for their static charged counterparts, whose properties we also discuss. Extending our considerations to higher dimensions, we also obtain novel 4D Gauss-Bonnet rotating black strings.
We study the Page curve and the information paradox for the BTZ black hole coupled to two thermal baths by applying the island paradigm. We prove that as the island locates outside the event horizon, the entanglement entropy of Hawking radiation for finite temperature black holes obeys the Page curve. However, for extremal rotating black holes, the Page time and the scrambling time become divergent. To avoid the ill-defined of the Page time, we consider the contribution of superradiance, which is a process that can extract rotational energy from black holes. The superradiance continues in a pe…
In the present paper, the quantum corrections to the temperature, entropy and specific heat capacity of the charged non-rotating BTZ black hole are studied by generalized uncertainty principle in tunneling formalism. It is shown that quantum corrected entropy would be of the form of predicted entropy in quantum gravity theories like string theory and loop quantum gravity.
In this paper, we discuss the effect of small statistical thermal fluctuations around the equilibrium on the thermodynamics of small non-rotating BTZ black hole. This is done by evaluating the leading-order corrections to the thermodynamical equation of states, namely, entropy, free energy, internal energy, pressure, enthalpy, Gibbs free energy and specific heat quantitatively. In order to analyze the effect of perturbations on the thermodynamics, we plot various graphs and compare corrected and non-corrected thermodynamic quantities with respect to event horizon radius of non-rotating BTZ bla…
In this manuscript, we investigate the thermal properties of the rotating charged BTZ black hole under the gravity's rainbow (GR) and generalized uncertainty principle (GUP) formalism. At first, we study the GR-corrected thermal quantities according to the usual Heisenberg algebra. Then, we consider a deformed algebra that leads to a change in the Heisenberg uncertainty principle and compare the Hawking temperature, entropy, thermodynamical volume, pressure, and heat capacity functions with the previous results. Thus, we understand and interpret the quantum effects on the BTZ black hole.
We point out a simple relation between the bulk field at an arbitrary radial position and the boundary OPE, by placing some old work by Ferrara, Gatto, Grillo and Parisi in the AdS/CFT context. This gives us, in principle, a prescription for extracting the classical bulk field from the boundary conformal block, and also clarifies why the latter is computed by a geodesic Witten diagram. We apply this prescription to the BTZ black hole - viewed as a pure state created by the insertion of a heavy operator in the boundary CFT_2 - and use it to relate a classical field in the bulk to a heavy-light …
In three dimensions, a phase transition occurs between the non-rotating BTZ black hole and the massless BTZ black hole. Further, introducing the mass of a conical singularity, we show that a transition between the non-rotating BTZ black hole and thermal AdS space is also possible.
We find the Gregory-Laflamme $s$-mode instability of the non-rotating BTZ black hole in new massive gravity. This instability shows that the BTZ black hole could not exist as a stable static solution to the new massive gravity. For non-rotating BTZ black string in four dimensions, however, it is demonstrated that the BTZ black string can be stable against the metric perturbation.
We revisit the non-rotating massive BTZ black hole within a pseudo-Riemannian symmetric space context. Using classical symmetric space techniques we find that every such space intrinsically carries a regular Poisson structure whose symplectic leaves are para-hermitian symmetric surfaces. We also obtain a global expression of the metric yielding a dynamical description of the black hole from its initial to its final singularity.
The thermodynamical process of Joule-Thomson expansion is extended to the lower-dimensional spacetimes by considering rotating, charged and charged rotating BTZ black hole metrics. The Joule-Thomson coefficients, the inversion curves and the isenthalps are found for all three cases. From the behavior of inversion curves in the $T-P$ plane, it is observed that there exists only minimum inversion temperatures for BTZ black holes. The relevant calculations for rotating BTZ black holes are almost straightforward, while it is more challenging to address when a charge parameter is added. In the case…
We consider charged rotating BTZ black holes in noncommutative space by use of Chern-Simons theory formulation of $2+1$ dimensional gravity. The noncommutativity between the radial and the angular variables is introduced through the Seiberg-Witten map for gauge fields, and the deformed geometry to the first order in the noncommutative parameter is derived. It is found that the deformation also induces nontrivial torsion, and the Einstein-Cartan theory appears to be a suitable framework to investigate the equations of motion. Though the deformation is indeed nontrivial, the deformed and the ori…
We analyse vacuum decay in rotating BTZ black hole spacetimes with the thin wall approximation. Possible parameter regions for the vacuum decay are clarified. We find that the nucleation rate is dominated by the bounce solution with the static shell configuration. The nucleation rate of the static shell decreases with the mass of the initial black hole. For a larger/smaller value of the initial black hole, the nucleation rate can be smaller/larger than that of the Coleman De Luccia vacuum decay in the pure AdS spacetime. Through the vacuum decay, the black hole gains its mass and loses the hor…
As a charged spinning fermion drops into a charged rotating BTZ black hole, we investigate the laws of thermodynamics and weak cosmic censorship conjecture with and without pressure respectively. For the case without pressure, the first law, second law, as well as the weak cosmic censorship are found to be valid. While for the case with pressure, though the first law is still valid, the second law and the weak cosmic censorship conjecture are found to be violable, depending on the charge, angular momentum, AdS radius, and their variations. In addition, in both cases, the configurations of the …
We investigate the Ruppeiner geometry of the thermodynamic state space of a general class of BTZ black holes. It is shown that the thermodynamic geometry is flat for both the rotating BTZ and the BTZ Chern Simons black holes in the canonical ensemble. We further investigate the inclusion of thermal fluctuations to the canonical entropy of the BTZ Chern Simons black holes and show that the leading logartithmic correction due to Carlip is reproduced. We establish that the inclusion of thermal fluctuations induces a non zero scalar curvature to the thermodynamic geometry.
Following Bekenstein's suggestion that the horizon area of a black hole should be quantized, the discrete spectrum of the horizon area has been investigated in various ways. By considering the quasinormal mode of a black hole, we obtain the transition frequency of the black hole, analogous to the case of a hydrogen atom, in the semiclassical limit. According to Bohr's correspondence principle, this transition frequency at large quantum number is equal to classical oscillation frequency. For the corresponding classical system of periodic motion with this oscillation frequency, an action variabl…
We present exact solutions describing rotating, inhomogeneous dust with generic initial data in 2+1 dimensional AdS spacetime and show how they are smoothly matched to the Banados-Teitelboim-Zanelli (BTZ) solution in the exterior. The metrics, which are the rotational analogues of the 2+1 dimensional LeMaitre-Tolman-Bondi (LTB) family, are described by their angular momentum and one additional constant which, together with the angular momentum, determines the energy density of the dust cloud. The weak energy condition gives a constraint on the angular momentum profile inside the cloud. Solutio…
During the last few years, exact solutions that describe black holes that are bound to a two-brane in a four dimensional anti-de Sitter bulk have been constructed. In situations wherein there is a negative cosmological constant on the brane, for large masses, these solutions are exactly the rotating BTZ black holes on the brane and, in fact, describe rotating BTZ black strings in the bulk. We evaluate the canonical entropy of a free and massless scalar field (at the Hawking temperature) around the rotating BTZ black string using the brick wall model. We explicitly show that the Bekenstein-Hawk…
This note is based on a talk given by one of the authors (S. D.) at the "Rencontres Mathématiques de Glanon", held in Glanon in July 2004. We will first introduce the BTZ black hole, solution of Einstein's gravity in 2+1 dimensions, and emphasize some remarkable properties of its geometry. We will essentially pay attention to the non-rotating black hole, whose structure is significantly different to the generic case. We will then turn the some aspects of string theory, namely the emergence of non-commutative geometry and the embedding of the BTZ black hole as an exact string background using t…
By applying Newman's algorithm, the AdS_3 rotating black hole solution is ``derived'' from the nonrotating black hole solution of Banados, Teitelboim, and Zanelli (BTZ). The rotating BTZ solution derived in this fashion is given in ``Boyer-Lindquist-type'' coordinates whereas the form of the solution originally given by BTZ is given in a kind of an ``unfamiliar'' coordinates which are related to each other by a transformation of time coordinate alone. The relative physical meaning between these two time coordinates is carefully studied. Since the Kerr-type and Boyer-Lindquist-type coordinates …
In this paper we extend our previous work regarding the role of the Fourier transformation in bulk to boundary mappings to include the BTZ black hole. We follow standard procedures for modifying Fourier Transformations to accommodate quotient spaces and arrive at a bulk to boundary mapping in a black hole background. We show that this mapping is consistent with known results and lends a new insight into the AdS/CFT duality. We find that the micro-states corresponding to the entropy of a bulk scalar field are the Fourier coefficients on the boundary, which transform under the principal series r…
Using a thin shell, the first law of thermodynamics, and a unified approach, we study the thermodymanics and find the entropy of a (2+1)-dimensional extremal rotating Bañados-Teitelbom-Zanelli (BTZ) black hole. The shell in (2+1) dimensions, i.e., a ring, is taken to be circularly symmetric and rotating, with the inner region being a ground state of the anti-de Sitter (AdS) spacetime and the outer region being the rotating BTZ spacetime. The extremal BTZ rotating black hole can be obtained in three different ways depending on the way the shell approaches its own gravitational or horizon radius…
We have considered the divergence structure in the brick-wall model for the statistical mechanical entropy of a quantum field in thermal equilibrium with a black hole which {\it rotates}. Especially, the contribution to entropy from superradiant modes is carefully incorporated, leading to a result for this contribution which corrects some previous errors in the literature. It turns out that the previous errors were due to an incorrect quantization of the superradiant modes. Some of main results for the case of rotating BTZ black holes are that the entropy contribution from superradiant modes i…
We perturb the non-rotating BTZ black hole with a non-minimally coupled massless scalar field, and we compute the quasinormal spectrum exactly. We solve the radial equation in terms of hypergeometric functions, and we obtain an analytical expression for the quasinormal frequencies. In addition, we compare our analytical results with the 6th order semi-analytical WKB method, and we find an excellent agreement. The impact of the nonminimal coupling as well as of the cosmological constant on the quasinormal spectrum is briefly discussed.
We study the spectrum of the worldsheet theory of the bosonic closed string in the massless and extremal rotating BTZ black holes. We use a hyperbolic Wakimoto representation of the SL(2,R) currents to construct vertex operators for the string modes on these backgrounds. We argue that there are tachyons in the twisted sector, but these are not localised near the horizon. We study the relation to the null orbifold in the limit of vanishing cosmological constant. We also discuss the problem of extending this analysis to the supersymmetric case.
The recent proposal of Maggiore that the periodicity of a black hole may be the origin of area quantization law is analyzed in the context of three dimensional black holes. We use the period of motion of an outgoing wave which is shown to be related to the vibrational frequency of the perturbed black hole, to quantize the horizon area of rotating and non-rotating BTZ black holes. It is shown that the equally spaced area spectrum takes the same form as the obtained in the literature using the quasinormal mode analysis for both metrics. Using this method, we do not need to use the small angular …
In this paper, we study the thermodynamics and phase transition of a BTZ black hole in a finite space region, namely a cavity. By imposing a temperature-fixed boundary condition on the wall of the cavity and evaluating the Euclidean action, we derive the thermodynamic quantities and then construct the first law of thermodynamics for a static and neutral BTZ black hole, a rotating BTZ black hole and a charged BTZ black hole, respectively. We prove that heat capacities of these three types of black holes are always non-negative. Considering a grand canonical ensemble, we find that the non-extrem…
We study the spectrum of bosonic string theory on rotating BTZ black holes, using a SL(2,R) WZW model. Previously, Natsuume and Satoh have analyzed strings on BTZ black holes using orbifold techniques. We show how an appropriate spectral flow in the WZW model can be used to generate the twisted sectors, emphasizing how the spectral flow works in the hyperbolic basis natural for the BTZ black hole. We discuss the projection condition which leads to the quantization condition for the allowed quantum numbers for the string excitations, and its connection to the anomaly in the corresponding conser…
A quantum scalar field inside the horizon of a non-rotating BTZ black hole is studied. Not only the near-horizon modes but also the normal modes deep inside the horizon are obtained. It is shown that the matching condition for the normal modes of a scalar field at the horizon does not uniquely determine the normal-mode expansion of a scalar field inside the horizon. By choosing a certain appropriate prescription for removing this ambiguity an integral form of a new scalar propagator for points on both sides of the horizon are obtained. A similar problem may arise in higher-dimensional black ho…
In this paper, we study the effect of ultra-high energy collisions of two particles with different energies near the horizon of a 2+1 dimensional BTZ black hole (BSW effect). We find that the particle with the critical angular momentum could exist inside the outer horizon of BTZ black hole regardless of the particle energy. Therefore, for the non-extremal BTZ black hole, the BSW process is possible on the inner horizon with the fine tuning of parameters which are characterized by the motion of particle. While for the extremal BTZ black hole, the particle with the critical angular momentum coul…
