This a new paper on Chow-weight homology; thus it is closely related to extending the decomposition of the diagonal theory to Voevodsky motives. Comments are very welcome!
We study in detail the so-called Chow-weight homology of Voevodsky motivic complexes and relate it to motivic homology. We generalize earlier results and prove that the vanishing of higher motivic homology groups of a motif $M$ implies similar vanishing for its Chow-weight homology along with effectivity properties of the higher terms of its weight complex $t(M)$ and of higher Deligne weight quotients of its cohomology. Applying this statement to motives with compact support we obtain a similar relation between the vanishing of Chow groups and the cohomology with compact support of varieties. Moreover, we prove that if higher motivic homology groups of a geometric motif or a variety over a universal domain are torsion (in a certain "range") then the exponents of these groups are uniformly bounded.
To prove our main results we study Voevodsky slices of motives. Since the slice functors do not respect the compactness of motives, the results of the previous Chow-weight homology paper are not sufficient for our purposes; this is our main reason to extend them to ($w_{Chow}$-bounded below) motivic complexes.
We define the Chow $t$-structure on the $\infty$-category of motivic spectra $SH(k)$ over an arbitrary base field $k$. We identify the heart of this $t$-structure $SH(k)^{c\heartsuit}$ when the exponential characteristic of $k$ is inverted. Restricting to the cellular subcategory, we identify the Chow heart $SH(k)^{cell, c\heartsuit}$ as the category of even graded $MU_{2*}MU$-comodules. Furthermore, we show that the $\infty$-category of modules over the Chow truncated sphere spectrum is algebraic. Our results generalize the ones in Gheorghe--Wang--Xu in three aspects: To integral results; To …
We develop the theory of fundamental classes in the setting of motivic homotopy theory. Using this we construct, for any motivic spectrum, an associated bivariant theory in the sense of Fulton-MacPherson. We import the tools of Fulton's intersection theory into this setting: (refined) Gysin maps, specialization maps, and formulas for excess intersections, self-intersections, and blow-ups. We also develop a theory of Euler classes of vector bundles in this setting. For the Milnor-Witt spectrum recently constructed by Déglise-Fasel, we get a bivariant theory extending the Chow-Witt groups of Bar…
We describe certain criteria for a motif $M$ to be $r$-effective, i.e., to belong to the $r$th Tate twist $Obj DM^{eff}_{gm,R}(r)=Obj DM^{eff}_{gm,R} \otimes L^{\otimes r}$ of effective Voevodsky motives (for $r\ge 1$; $R$ is the coefficient ring). In particular, $M$ is 1-effective if and only if a complex whose terms are certain Chow groups of zero-cycles is acyclic. The dual to this statement checks whether an effective motif $M$ belongs to the subcategory of $DM^{eff}_{gm,R}$ generated by motives of varieties of dimension $\le r$. These criteria are formulated in terms of the Chow-weight (c…
Due to the work of many authors in the last decades, given an algebraic orbifold (smooth proper Deligne-Mumford stack with trivial generic stabilizer), one can construct its orbifold Chow ring and orbifold Grothendieck ring, and relate them by the orbifold Chern character map, generalizing the fundamental work of Chen-Ruan on orbifold cohomology. In this paper, we extend this theory naturally to higher Chow groups and higher algebraic K-theory, mainly following the work of Jarvis-Kaufmann-Kimura and Edidin-Jarvis-Kimura.
In this article we introduce the local versions of the Voevodsky category of motives with Z/p-coefficients over a field k, parameterized by finitely-generated extensions of k. We introduce the, so-called, flexible fields, passage to which is conservative on motives. We demonstrate that, over flexible fields, the constructed local motivic categories are much simpler than the global one and more reminiscent of a topological counterpart. This provides handy "local" invariants from which one can read motivic information. We compute the local motivic cohomology of a point, for p=2, and study the lo…
We present a version of projective bundle theorem in MW-motives (resp. Chow-Witt rings), which says that $\widetilde{CH}^*(\mathbb{P}(E))$ is determined by $\widetilde{CH}^*(X)$, $\widetilde{CH}^*(X,det(E)^{\vee})$, $CH^*(X)$ and $Sq^2$ for smooth quasi-projective schemes $X$ and vector bundles $E$ over $X$ with $e(E^{\vee})=0\in H^n(X,W(det(E)))$, provided that $_2CH^*(X)=0$. As an application, we compute the MW-motives of blow-ups with smooth centers. Moreover, we discuss the invariance of Chow-Witt cycles of projective bundles under automorphisms of vector bundles.
We revisit the classical two-dimensional McKay correspondence in two respects: The first one, which is the main point of this work, is that we take into account of the multiplicative structure given by the orbifold product; second, instead of using cohomology, we deal with the Chow motives. More precisely, we prove that for any smooth proper two-dimensional orbifold with projective coarse moduli space, there is an isomorphism of algebra objects, in the category of complex Chow motives, between the motive of the minimal resolution and the orbifold motive. In particular, the complex Chow ring (r…
We study maps from a smooth scheme to a motivic sphere in the Morel-Voevodsky ${\mathbb A}^1$-homotopy category, i.e., motivic cohomotopy sets. Following Borsuk, we show that, in the presence of suitable hypotheses on the dimension of the source, motivic cohomotopy sets can be equipped with functorial abelian group structures. We then explore links between motivic cohomotopy groups, Euler class groups à la Nori-Bhatwadekar-Sridharan and Chow-Witt groups. We show that, again under suitable hypotheses on the base field $k$, if $X$ is a smooth affine $k$-variety of dimension $d$, then the Euler c…
We prove that the Chow motives of twisted derived equivalent K3 surfaces are isomorphic, not only as Chow motives (due to Huybrechts), but also as Frobenius algebra objects. Combined with a recent result of Huybrechts, we conclude that two complex projective K3 surfaces are isogenous (i.e. their second rational cohomology groups are Hodge isometric) if and only if their Chow motives are isomorphic as Frobenius algebra objects; this can be regarded as a motivic Torelli-type theorem. We ask whether, more generally, twisted derived equivalent hyper-Kaehler varieties have isomorphic Chow motives a…
We study the structure of various invariants of the symmetric powers of a smooth projective curve in terms of that of the Jacobian of the curve. We generalise the results of Macdonald and Collino to various invariants including the Weil-cohomology theory, the higher Chow groups, the additive higher Chow groups and the rational $K$-groups.
We prove that the moduli spaces of twisted $\mathrm{SL}_n$ and $\mathrm{PGL}_n$-Higgs bundles on a smooth projective curve have the same (stringy) class in the Grothendieck ring of rational Chow motives. On the level of Hodge numbers this was conjectured by Hausel and Thaddeus, and recently proven by Groechenig, Ziegler and the second author. To adapt their argument, which relies on p-adic integration, we use a version of motivic integration with values in rational Chow motives and the geometry of Néron models to evaluate such integrals on Hitchin fibers.
Building on Kerr, Lewis and Mueller-Stach's work on the rational regulator, we prove the existence of an integral regulator on higher Chow complexes and give an explicit expression. This puts firm ground under some earlier results and speculations on the torsion in higher cycle groups by K-L-M, Petras, and Kerr-Yang.
We investigate several interrelated foundational questions pertaining to the study of motivic dga's of Dan-Cohen--Schlank [8] and Iwanari [13]. In particular, we note that morphisms of motivic dga's can reasonably be thought of as a nonabelian analog of motivic cohomology. Just as abelian motivic cohomology is a homotopy group of a spectrum coming from K-theory, the space of morphisms of motivic dga's is a certain limit of such spectra; we give an explicit formula for this limit --- a possible first step towards explicit computations or dimension bounds. We also consider commutative comonoids …
Given a smooth projective variety $M$ endowed with a faithful action of a finite group $G$, following Jarvis-Kaufmann-Kimura and Fantechi-Göttsche, we define the orbifold motive (or Chen-Ruan motive) of the quotient stack $[M/G]$ as an algebra object in the category of Chow motives. Inspired by Ruan, one can formulate a motivic version of his Cohomological HyperKähler Resolution Conjecture. We prove this motivic version, as well as its K-theoretic analogue conjectured by Jarvis-Kaufmann-Kimura, in two situations related to an abelian surface $A$ and a positive integer $n$. Case (A) concerns Hi…
We study Grothedieck groups of triangulated categories using weight structures, weight complexes, and the corresponding pure (co)homological functors. We prove some general statements on $K_0$ of weighted categories and apply it to Voevodsky motives endowed with so-called Chow weight structures. We obtain certain "motivic substitutes" for smooth compactifications of smooth varieties over arbitrary perfect fields; this enables us to make certain unramified cohomology and Euler characteristic calculations that are closely related to results of T. Ekedahl and B. Kahn.
In this paper certain Chow weight structures on the "big" triangulated motivic categories $DM_R^{eff}\subset DM_R$ are defined in terms of motives of all smooth varieties over the base field. This definition allows studying basic properties of these weight structures without applying resolution of singularities; thus we don't have to assume that the coefficient ring $R$ contains $1/p$ in the case where the characteristic $p$ of the base field is positive. Moreover, in the case where $R$ satisfies the latter assumption our weight structures are "compatible" with Chow weight structures defined i…
