In earlier work, the first named author generalized the construction of Darmon-style $\mathcal{L}$-invariants to cuspidal automorphic representations of semisimple groups of higher rank, which are cohomological with respect to the trivial coefficient system and Steinberg at a fixed prime.
In this paper, assuming that the Archimedean component of the group has discrete series we show that these automorphic $\mathcal{L}$-invariants can be computed in terms of derivatives of Hecke-eigenvalues in $p$-adic families. Our proof is novel even in the case of modular forms, which was established by Bertolini, Darmon, and Iovita. The main new technical ingredient is the Koszul resolution of locally analytic principal series representations by Kohlhaase and Schraen.
As an application of our results we settle a conjecture of Spieß: we show that automorphic $\mathcal{L}$-invariants of Hilbert modular forms of parallel weight $2$ are independent of the sign character used to define them. Moreover, we show that they are invariant under Jacquet-Langlands transfer and, in fact, equal to the Fontaine-Mazur $\mathcal{L}$-invariant of the associated Galois representation. Under mild assumptions, we also prove the equality of automorphic and Fontaine-Mazur $\mathcal{L}$-invariants for representations of definite unitary groups of arbitrary rank.
Finally, we study the case of Bianchi modular forms to show how our methods, given precise results on eigenvarieties, can also work in the absence of discrete series representations.
In this paper we view pro-$p$ Iwahori subgroups $I$ as rigid analytic groups $\Bbb{I}$ for large enough $p$. This is done by endowing $I$ with a natural $p$-valuation, and thereby generalizing results of Lazard for $\text{GL}_n$. We work with a general connected reductive split group over some $p$-adic field (with simply connected derived group) and study the $\Bbb{I}$-analytic vectors in principal series representations. Our main result is an irreducibility criterion which generalizes results of Clozel and Ray in the $\text{GL}_n$-case.
We study the roots of a random polynomial over the field of p-adic numbers. For a random monic polynomial with coefficients in $\mathbb{Z}_p$, we obtain an asymptotic formula for the factorial moments of the number of roots of this polynomial. In addition, we show the probability that a random polynomial of degree $n$ has more than $\log n$ roots is $O\big(n^{-K}\big)$ for some $K > 0$.
Let $p\geq 3$ be a prime number and $F$ a $p$-adic field. Let $I_1$ denote the pro-$p$-Iwahori subgroup of $\textrm{GL}_n(F)$, and $\mathcal{H}$ the pro-$p$-Iwahori--Hecke algebra of $\textrm{GL}_n(F)$ with respect to $I_1$ (over a coefficient field of characteristic $p$). We compute the structure of $\textrm{H}^1(I_1,π)$ as an $\mathcal{H}$-module, where $π$ is a mod-$p$ principal series representation of $\textrm{GL}_n(F)$. We also give some partial results about the structure of $\textrm{H}^1(I_1,π)$ for a general split reductive group with irreducible root system.
We relate $p$-adic families of Jacobi forms to Big Heegner points constructed by B. Howard, in the spirit of the Gross-Kohnen-Zagier theorem. We view this as a GL(2) instance of a $p$-adic Kudla program.
Following ideas of Kedlaya-Liu, we are going to consider extending our previous work to the context of more general adic spaces, which will be corresponding deformation of the relative $p$-adic Hodge structure over more general adic spaces. This means that the deformation could be also realized by an adic spaces (perfectoid, preperfectoid, relatively perfectoid and so on). Parts of the whole project here actually are inspired by the corresponding Drinfeld's lemma for diamonds after Scholze, as well as the work from Carter-Kedlaya-Zábrádi which is aimed at studying the representation theory of …
We compute the p-torsion and p-adic etale cohomologies with compact support of period domains over local fields in the case of basic isocrystals for quasi-split reductive groups. For the p-torsion case, we follow the method used by Orlik in his computations of the l-torsion etale cohomology using as a key new ingredient the computation of Ext groups between mod p generalized Steinberg representations of p-adic groups. For the p-adic case, we don't use Huber's definition of etale cohomology with compact support as Orlik did since it seems to give spaces that are much too big; instead we use con…
A classical twisting lemma says that given a finitely generated torsion module $M$ over the Iwasawa algebra $\mathbb{Z}_p[[Γ]]$ with $Γ\cong \mathbb{Z}_p, \ \exists$ a continuous character $θ: Γ\rightarrow \mathbb{Z}_p^\times$ such that, the $ Γ^{n}$-Euler characteristic of the twist $M(θ)$ is finite for every $n$. This twisting lemma has been generalized for the Iwasawa algebra of a general compact $p$-adic Lie group $G$. In this article, we consider a further generalization of the twisting lemma to $\mathcal{T}[[G]]$ modules, where $G$ is a compact $p$-adic Lie group and $\mathcal{T}$ is a f…
The work of Bernstein-Zelevinsky and Zelevinsky gives a good understanding of irreducible subquotients of a reducible principal series representation of $GL_n(F)$, $F$ a $p$-adic field (without specifying their multiplicities which is done by a Kazhdan-Lusztig type conjecture). In this paper we make a proposal of a similar kind for principal series representations of $GL_n({\mathbb R})$. Our investigation on principal series representations naturally led us to consider the Steinberg representation for real groups, which has curiuosly not been paid much attention to in the subject (unlike the $…
In this article, we prove that for a convergent sequence of residually absolutely irreducible representations of the absolute Galois group of a number field $F$ with coefficients in a domain finite over a power series ring over a $p$-adic integer ring, the set of places of $F$ where some of the representations ramifies has density zero. Using this, we extend a result of Das--Rajan to such convergent sequences. We also establish a strong multiplicity one theorem for big Galois representations.
S. Orlik and M. Strauch have studied locally analytic principal series representation for general $p$-adic reductive groups generalizing an earlier work of P. Schneider for $GL(2)$ and related the condition of irreducibility of such locally analytic representation with that of a suitable Verma module. In this article, we take the case of $GL(n)$ and study the globally analytic principal series representation under the action of the pro-$p$ Iwahori subgroup of $GL(n,\mathbb{Z}_p)$, following the notion of globally analytic representations introduced by M. Emerton. Furthermore, we relate the con…
The principal aim of this article is to attach and study $p$-adic $L$-functions to cohomological cuspidal automorphic representations $Π$ of $\mathrm{GL}(2n)$ over a totally real field $F$ admitting a Shalika model. We use a modular symbol approach, along the global lines of the work of Ash and Ginzburg, but our results are more definitive since we draw heavily upon the methods used in the recent and separate works of all the three authors. By construction our $p$-adic $L$-functions are distributions on the Galois group of the maximal abelian extension of $F$ unramified outside $p\infty$. More…
Following a suggestion of Peter Scholze, we construct an action of $\hat{\mathbb{G}}_m$ on the Katz moduli problem, a profinite-étale cover of the ordinary locus of the $p$-adic modular curve whose ring of functions is Serre's space of $p$-adic modular functions. This action is a local, $p$-adic analog of a global, archimedean action of the circle group $S^1$ on the lattice-unstable locus of the modular curve over $\mathbb{C}$. To construct the $\hat{\mathbb{G}}_m$-action, we descend a moduli-theoretic action of a larger group on the (big) ordinary Igusa variety of Caraiani-Scholze. We compute…
Iwasawa algebras of compact $p$-adic Lie groups are completed group algebras with applications in number theory in studying class numbers of towers of number fields and representation theory of $p$-adic Lie groups. In our earlier work, we determined an explicit presentation of the Iwasawa algebra for the first principal congruence kernel of Chevalley groups over $\mathbb{Z}_p$. In this paper, for prime $p>n+1$, we extend our result to determine the explicit presentation, in the form of generators and relations, of the Iwasawa algebra of the pro-$p$ Iwahori subgroup of $GL_n(\mathbb{Z}_p)$.
Let K be a p-adic field and F the function field of a curve over K. Let G be a connected linear algebraic group over F of classical type. Suppose the prime p is a good prime for G. Then we prove that projective homogeneous spaces under G over F satisfy a local global principle for rational points with respect to discrete valuations of F . If G is a semisimple simply connected group over F , then we also prove that principal homogeneous spaces under G over F satisfy a local global principle for rational points with respect to discrete valuations of F.
If one proposes to use the theory of Eisenstein cohomology to prove algebraicity results for the special values of automorphic L-functions as in my work with Harder for Rankin-Selberg L-functions, or its generalizations as in my work with Bhagwat for L-functions for orthogonal groups and independently with Krishnamurthy on Asai L-functions, then in a key step, one needs to prove that the normalised standard intertwining operator between induced representations for p-adic groups has a certain arithmetic property. The principal aim of this article is to address this particular local problem in t…
