Following a suggestion of Peter Scholze, we construct an action of $\hat{\mathbb{G}}_m$ on the Katz moduli problem, a profinite-étale cover of the ordinary locus of the $p$-adic modular curve whose ring of functions is Serre's space of $p$-adic modular functions. This action is a local, $p$-adic analog of a global, archimedean action of the circle group $S^1$ on the lattice-unstable locus of the modular curve over $\mathbb{C}$. To construct the $\hat{\mathbb{G}}_m$-action, we descend a moduli-theoretic action of a larger group on the (big) ordinary Igusa variety of Caraiani-Scholze. We compute the action explicitly on local expansions and find it is given by a simple multiplication of the cuspidal and Serre-Tate coordinates $q$; along the way we also prove a natural generalization of Dwork's equation $τ=\log q$ for extensions of $\mathbb{Q}_p/\mathbb{Z}_p$ by $μ_{p^\infty}$ valid over a non-Artinian base. Finally, we give a direct argument (without appealing to local expansions) to show that the action of $\hat{\mathbb{G}}_m$ integrates the differential operator $θ$ coming from the Gauss-Manin connection and unit root splitting, and explain an application to Eisenstein measures and $p$-adic $L$-functions.
This work is a study of $p$-adic multiple zeta values at roots of unity ($p$MZV$μ_{N}$'s), the $p$-adic periods of the crystalline pro-unipotent fundamental groupoid of $(\mathbb{P}^{1} - \{0,μ_{N},\infty\})/ \mathbb{F}_{q}$. The main tool is new objects which we call $p$-adic pro-unipotent harmonic actions. In this part IV we define and study $p$-adic analogues of some elementary complex analytic functions which interpolate multiple zeta values at roots of unity such as the multiple zeta functions. The indices of $p$MZV$μ_{N}$'s involve sequences of positive integers ; in this IV-1, by consid…
$p$-adic cyclotomic multiple zeta values depend on the choice of a number of iterations of the crystalline Frobenius of the pro-unipotent fundamental groupoid of $\mathbb{P}^{1} - \{0,μ_{N},\infty\}$. In this paper we study how the iterated Frobenius depends on the number of iterations, in relation with the computation of $p$-adic cyclotomic multiple zeta values in terms of cyclotomic multiple harmonic sums. This provides new results on that computation and the definition of a new pro-unipotent harmonic action.
In this short note we prove a version of Bertini's theorem for unipotent rigid fundamental groups, stating that for every smooth, projective, geometrically connected variety $X$ over an infinite perfect field $k$ of characteristic $p>0$, there exists a smooth, projective, geometrically connected curve $C\subset X$ such that the induced map on rigid fundamental groups is surjective.
This is a review on the two first parts of our work on $p$-adic multiple zeta values at $N$-th roots of unity ($p$MZV$μ_{N}$'s), the $p$-adic periods of the crystalline pro-unipotent fundamental groupoid of $\mathbb{P}^{1} - \{0,μ_{N},\infty\}$ (where $N$ and $p$ are coprime). We restrict for simplicity the review to the case of $N=1$, i.e. the case of $p$-adic multiple zeta values ($p$MZV's). The main tools are new objects which we call $p$-adic pro-unipotent harmonic actions. These are continuous group actions on a space containing the non-commutative generating series of weighted multiple h…
Let $\mathrm G / F$ be a reductive split $p$-adic group and let $\mathrm U$ be the unipotent radical of a Borel subgroup. We study the cohomology with trivial $\mathbb Z_p$-coefficients of the profinite nilpotent group $N = \mathrm U(\mathcal O_F)$ and its Lie algebra $\mathfrak n$, by extending a classical result of Kostant to our integral $p$-adic setup. The techniques used are a combination of results from group theory, algebraic groups and homological algebra.
We discuss $p$-adic unipotent Albanese maps for curves of positive genus, extending the theory of $p$-adic multiple polylogarithms. This construction is then used to relate linear Diophantine conjectures of `Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer type' to non-linear theorems of Faltings-Siegel type.
We begin this paper by reviewing the Langlands correspondence for unipotent representations of the exceptional group of type $G_2$ over a $p$-adic field $F$ and present it in an explicit form. Then we compute all ABV-packets, as defined in [CFM+21] following ideas from Vogan's 1993 paper The local Langlands Conjecture, and prove that these packets satisfy properties derived from the expectation that they are generalized A-packets. We attach distributions to ABV-packets for $G_2$ and its endoscopic groups and study a geometric endoscopic transfer of these distributions. This paper builds on ear…
We study the unipotent Albanese map appearing in the non-abelian Chabauty method of Minhyong Kim. In particular we explore the explicit computation of the $p$-adic de Rham period map $j^{dr}_n$ on elliptic and hyperelliptic curves over number fields via their universal unipotent connections $\mathcal{U}$. Several algorithms forming part of the computation of finite level versions $j^{dr}_n$ of the unipotent Albanese maps are presented. The computation of the logarithmic extension of $\mathcal{U}$ in general requires a description in terms of an open covering, and can be regarded as a simple ex…
We study the Galois action on paths in the $\mathbb{Q}_\ell$-pro-unipotent étale fundamental groupoid of a hyperbolic curve $X$ over a $p$-adic field with $\ell\neq p$. We prove an Oda--Tamagawa-type criterion for the existence of a Galois-invariant path in terms of the reduction of $X$, as well as an anabelian reconstruction result determining the stable reduction type of $X$ in terms of its fundamental groupoid. We give an explicit combinatorial description of the non-abelian Kummer map of $X$ in arbitrary depth, and deduce consequences for the non-abelian Chabauty method for affine hyperbol…
Let $G$ be a connected reductive group over a $p$-adic local field $F$. We propose and study the notions of $G$-$φ$-modules and $G$-$(φ,\nabla)$-modules over the Robba ring, which are exact faithful $F$-linear tensor functors from the category of $G$-representations on finite-dimensional $F$-vector spaces to the categories of $φ$-modules and $(φ,\nabla)$-modules over the Robba ring, respectively, commuting with the respective fiber functors. We study Kedlaya's slope filtration theorem in this context, and show that $G$-$(φ,\nabla)$-modules over the Robba ring are "$G$-quasi-unipotent", which i…

In this article I define and study the overconvergent rigid fundamental group of a variety over an equicharacteristic local field. This is a non-abelian $(φ,\nabla)$-module over the bounded Robba ring $\mathcal{E}_K^\dagger$, whose underlying unipotent group (after base changing to the Amice ring $\mathcal{E}_K$) is exactly the classical rigid fundamental group. I then use this to prove an equicharacteristic, $p$-adic analogue of Oda's theorem that a semistable curve over a $p$-adic field has good reduction iff the Galois action on its $\ell$-adic unipotent fundamental group is unramified.
This primarily expository article collects together some facts from the literature about the monodromy of differential equations on a p-adic (rigid analytic) annulus, though often with simpler proofs. These include Matsuda's classification of quasi-unipotent nabla-modules, the Christol-Mebkhout construction of the ramification filtration, and the Christol-Dwork Frobenius antecedent theorem. We also briefly discuss the p-adic local monodromy theorem without proof.
The article is dedicated to the memory of George Voronoi. It is concerned with ($p$-adic) $L$-functions (in partially ($p$-adic) zeta functions) and cyclotomic ($p$-adic) (multiple) zeta values. The beginning of the article contains a short summary of the results on the Bernoulli numbers associated with the studies of George Voronoi. Results on multiple zeta values have presented by D. Zagier, by P. Deligne and A.Goncharov, by A. Goncharov, by F. Brown, by C. Glanois and others. S. Ünver have investigated p-adic multiple zeta values in the depth two. Tannakian interpretation of p-adic multiple…
We study the problem of describing local components of height functions on abelian varieties over characteristic $0$ local fields as functions on spaces of torsors under various realisations of a $2$-step unipotent motivic fundamental group naturally associated to the defining line bundle. To this end, we present three main theorems giving such a description in terms of the $\mathbb Q_\ell$- and $\mathbb Q_p$-pro-unipotent étale realisations when the base field is $p$-adic, and in terms of the $\mathbb R$-pro-unipotent Betti--de Rham realisation when the base field is archimedean. In the cours…
By adopting a new approach to the analysis of the density of p-adic solutions arising in applications of the circle method, we show that under modest conditions the existence of non-trivial p-adic solutions suffices to establish positivity of the singular series. This improves on earlier approaches due to Davenport, Schmidt and others, and allows us to establish an asymptotic formula for the number of simultaneous zeros of non-singular pairs of cubic forms in at least 131 variables. As a by-product, we obtain a version of Hensel's Lemma for linear spaces.
Working in the p-adic analog of the complex numbers, we'll define a line integral on a small arc of a circle. This allows new versions of the Residue Theorem, the Cauchy-Goursat Theorem on discs with and without holes, Cauchy's Integral Formula and the Z-P Theorem. In contrast to results in complex analysis, these integrals allow the points on a boundary circle, the bulk of a p-adic disc, to be treated the same as points interior to the boundary circle. The theory of the integral is developed, especially for functions holomorphic on an open disc, and integrals will be calculated for rational f…
Let $X_{0}=\mathbb{P}^{1} - (\{0,\infty\} \cup μ_{N})\text{ }/\text{ }\mathbb{F}_{q}$, with $N \in \mathbb{N}^{\ast}$ and $\mathbb{F}_{q}$ of characteristic $p>0$ and containing a primitive $N$-th root of unity. We establish an explicit theory of the crystalline pro-unipotent fundamental groupoid of $X_{0}$. In part I, we have computed explicitly the Frobenius, and in particular cyclotomic $p$-adic multiple zeta values. In part II, we use part I to understand the algebraic relations of cyclotomic $p$-adic multiple zeta values via explicit formulas ; this is in particular a study of the harmoni…
We study the local zeta integrals attached to a pair of generic representations $(π,τ)$ of $GL_n\times GL_m$, $n>m$, over a $p$-adic field. Through a process of unipotent averaging we produce a pair of corresponding Whittaker functions whose zeta integral is non-zero, and we express this integral in terms of the Langlands parameters of $π$ and $τ$. In many cases, these Whittaker functions also serve as a test vector for the associated Rankin-Selberg (local) $L$-function.
We introduce a notion of volume for an l-adic local system over an algebraic curve and, under some conditions, give a symplectic form on the rigid analytic deformation space of the corresponding geometric local system. These constructions can be viewed as arithmetic analogues of the volume and the Chern-Simons invariants of a representation of the fundamental group of a 3-manifold which fibers over the circle and of the symplectic form on the character varieties of a Riemann surface. We show that the absolute Galois group acts on the deformation space by conformal symplectomorphisms which exte…
In 1979, Lusztig proposed a cohomological construction of supercuspidal representations of reductive $p$-adic groups, analogous to Deligne-Lusztig theory for finite reductive groups. In this paper we establish a new instance of Lusztig's program. Precisely, let $X$ be the $p$-adic Deligne-Lusztig ind-scheme associated to a division algebra $D$ of invariant k/n over a non-Archimedean local field $K$. We study its homology groups by establishing a Deligne-Lusztig theory for families of finite unipotent groups that arise as subquotients of $D^\times$. The homology of $X$ induces a natural corresp…
Let $X= \mathbb{P}^1 \setminus \{0,1,\infty\}$, and let $S$ denote a finite set of prime numbers. In an article of 2005, Minhyong Kim gave a new proof of Siegel's theorem for $X$: the set $X(\mathbb{Z}[S^{-1}])$ of $S$-integral points of $X$ is finite. The proof relies on a `nonabelian' version of the classical Chabauty method. At its heart is a modular interpretation of unipotent $p$-adic Hodge theory, given by a tower of morphisms $h_n$ between certain $\mathbb{Q}_p$-varieties. We set out to obtain a better understanding of $h_2$. Its mysterious piece is a polynomial in $2|S|$ variables. Our…
Let $\widetilde{G}$ be a split connected reductive group with connected center $Z$ over a local non-Archimedean field $F$ of residue characteristic $p$, let $\widetilde{K}$ be a hyperspecial maximal compact open subgroup in $\widetilde{G}$. Let $R$ be a commutative ring, let $V$ be a finitely generated $R$-free $R[\widetilde{K}]$-module. For an $R$-algebra $B$ and a character $χ:{\mathfrak H}_V(\widetilde{G},\widetilde{K})\to B$ of the spherical Hecke algebra ${\mathfrak H}_V(\widetilde{G},\widetilde{K})={\rm End}_{R[\widetilde{G}]}{\rm ind}_{\widetilde{K}}^{\widetilde{G}}(V)$ we consider the …
Let $F$ be a $p$-adic field and $π$ be an irreducible smooth representation of $\textrm{Sp}_{2n}(F)$. In this paper, we show that if $π$ and $π^κ$ are both generic for a common generic character of the maximal unipotent of a fixed Borel, then $π\cong π^κ$, where $π^κ$ is the representation induced by the conjugation action of an element $κ\in \textrm{GSp}_{2n}(F)$. This result is a consequence of the standard local Langlands conjecture and local Gan-Gross-Prasad conjecture. As a consequence, we extend the dependence relation of the local Rankin-Selberg gamma factors for $\textrm{Sp}_{2n}\times…
Refined forms of the local Langlands correspondence seek to relate representations of reductive groups over local fields with sheaves on stacks of Langlands parameters. But what kind of sheaves? Conjectures in the spirit of Kazhdan-Lusztig theory (due to Vogan and Soergel) describe representations of a group and its pure inner forms with fixed central character in terms of constructible sheaves. Conjectures in the spirit of geometric Langlands (due to Fargues, Zhu and Hellmann) describe representations with varying central character of a large family of groups associated to isocrystals in term…
