This paper develops the technique of constructing Lax representations for PDEs via non-central extensions of their contact symmetry algebras. We show that the method is applicable to the Lax representations with non-removable spectral parameters.
This paper develops the technique of constructing Lax representations for PDEs via non-central extensions generated by non-triivial exotic 2-cocycles of their contact symmetry algebras. We show that the method is applicable to the Lax representations with non-removable spectral parameters. Also we demonstrate that natural extensions of the symmetry algebras produce the integrable hierarchies associated to their PDEs.
We introduce a family of order $N\in \mathbb{N}$ Lax matrices that is indexed by the natural number $k\in \{1,\ldots,N-1\}.$ For each value of $k$ they serve as strong Lax matrices of a hierarchy of integrable difference systems in edge variables that in turn lead to hierarchies of integrable difference systems in vertex variables or in a combination of edge and vertex variables. Furthermore, the entries of the Lax matrices are considered as elements of a division ring, so we obtain hierarchies of discrete integrable systems extended in the non-commutative domain.
Using the Lax representation with non-removable parameter, we construct two hierarchies of nonlocal conservation laws for the 3D rdDym equation $u_{ty} = u_xu_{xy} - u_yu_{xx}$ and describe the algebras of nonlocal symmetries in the corresponding coverings.
A systematic method of constructing manifestly supersymmetric $1+1$-dimensional KP Lax hierarchies is presented. Closed expressions for the Lax operators in terms of superfield eigenfunctions are obtained. All hierarchy equations being eigenfunction equations are shown to be automatically invariant under the (extended) supersymmetry. The supersymmetric Lax models existing in the literature are found to be contained (up to a gauge equivalence) in our formalism.
We investigate the bi-Hamiltonian structures associated with constrained dispersionless modified KP hierarchies which are constructed from truncations of the Lax operator of the dispersionless modified KP hierarchy. After transforming their second Hamiltonian structures to those of Gelfand-Dickey type, we obtain the Poisson algebras of the coefficient functions of the truncated Lax operators. Then we study the conformal property and free-field realizations of these Poisson algebras. Some examples are worked out explicitly to illustrate the obtained results.
We obtain via Bäcklund transformation the Hamiltonian representation for a Lax type nonlinear dynamical system hierarchy on a dual space to the Lie algebra of super-integral-differential operators of one anticommuting variable, extended by evolutions of the corresponding spectral problem eigenfunctions and adjoint eigenfunctions, as well as for the hierarchies of their additional symmetries. The relation of these hierarchies with the integrable by Lax (2|1+1)-dimensional supersymmetric Davey-Stewartson system is investigated.
We discuss commuting flows and conservation laws for Lax hierarchies on noncommutative spaces in the framework of the Sato theory. On commutative spaces, the Sato theory has revealed essential aspects of the integrability for wide class of soliton equations which are derived from the Lax hierarchies in terms of pseudo-differential operators. Noncommutative extension of the Sato theory has been already studied by the author and Kouichi Toda, and the existence of various noncommutative Lax hierarchies are guaranteed. In the present paper, we present conservation laws for the noncommutative Lax h…
Rational Lax hierarchies introduced by Krichever are generalized. A systematic construction of infinite multi-Hamiltonian hierarchies and related conserved quantities is presented. The method is based on the classical R-matrix approach applied to Poisson algebras. A proof, that Poisson operators constructed near different points of Laurent expansion of Lax functions are equal, is given. All results are illustrated by several examples.
We firstly propose two kinds of new multi-component BKP (mcBKP) hierarchy based on the eigenfunction symmetry reduction and nonstandard reduction, respectively. The first one contains two types of BKP equation with self-consistent sources which Lax representations are presented. The two mcBKP hierarchies both admit reductions to the $k-$constrained BKP hierarchy and to integrable (1+1)-dimensional hierarchy with self-consistent sources, which include two types of SK equation with self-consistent sources and of bi-directional SK equations with self-consistent sources.
A class of multidimensional integrable hierarchies connected with commutation of general (unreduced) (N+1)-dimensional vector fields containing derivative over spectral variable is considered. They are represented in the form of generating equation, as well as in the Lax-Sato form. A dressing scheme based on nonlinear vector Riemann problem is presented for this class. The hierarchies connected with Manakov-Santini equation and Dunajski system are considered as illustrative examples.
A study of Hamiltonian structures associated with supersymmetric Lax operators is presented. Following a constructive approach, the Hamiltonian structures of Inami-Kanno super KdV hierarchy and constrained modified super KP hierarchy are investigated from the reduced supersymmetric Gelfand-Dickey brackets. By applying a gauge transformation on the Hamiltonian structures associated with these two nonstandard super Lax hierarchies, we obtain the Hamiltonian structures of generalized Manin-Radul super KdV and constrained super KP hierarchies. We also work out a few examples and compare them with …
We transfer the scheme of constructing differential reductions, developed recently for the case of the Manakov-Santini hierarchy, to the general multidimensional case. We consider in more detail the four-dimensional case, connected with the second heavenly equation and its generalization proposed by Dunajski. We give a characterization of differential reductions in terms of the Lax-Sato equations as well as in the framework of the dressing method based on nonlinear Riemann-Hilbert problem.
In this paper a list of $R$-matrices on a certain coupled Lie algebra is obtained. With one of these $R$-matrices, we construct infinitely many bi-Hamiltonian structures for each of the two-component BKP and the Toda lattice hierarchies. We also show that, when such two hierarchies are reduced to their subhierarchies, these bi-Hamiltonian structures are reduced correspondingly.
We construct the matrix generalization of the N=2 supersymmetric GNLS hierarchies. This is done by exhibiting the corresponding matrix super Lax operators in terms of N=2 superfields in two different superfield bases. We present the second Hamiltonian structure and discrete symmetries. We then extend our discussion by conjecturing the Lax operators of different reductions of the N=2 supersymmetric matrix KP hierarchy and discuss the simplest examples.
The Hamiltonian representation for the hierarchy of Lax-type flows on a dual space to the Lie algebra of shift operators coupled with suitable eigenfunctions and adjoint eigenfunctions evolutions of associated spectral problems is found by means of a specially constructed Backlund transformation. The Hamiltonian description for the corresponding set of squared eigenfunction symmetry hierarchies is represented. The relation of these hierarchies with Lax integrable (2+1)-dimensional differential-difference systems and their triple Lax-type linearizations is analysed. The existence problem of a H…
We extend the reduction group method to the Lax-Darboux schemes associated with nonlinear Schrödinger type equations. We consider all possible finite reduction groups and construct corresponding Lax operators, Darboux transformations, hierarchies of integrable differential-difference equations, integrable partial difference systems and associated scalar partial difference equations.
Recent concept of integrable nonholonomic deformation found for the KdV equation is extended to the mKdV equation and generalized to the AKNS system. For the deformed mKdV equation we find a matrix Lax pair, a novel two-fold integrable hierarchy and exact N-soliton solutions exhibiting unusual accelerating motion. We show that both the deformed KdV and mKdV systems possess infinitely many generalized symmetries, conserved quantities and a recursion operator.
A new Lax operator is proposed from the viewpoint of constructing the integrable hierarchies related with N=2 super $W_n$ algebra. It is shown that the Poisson algebra associated to the second Hamiltonian structure for the resulted hierarchy contains the N=2 super Virasoro algebra as a proper subalgebra. The simplest cases are discussed in detail. In particular, it is proved that the supersymmetric two-boson hierarchy is one of N=2 supersymmetric KdV hierarchies. Also, a Lax operator is supplied for one of N=2 supersymmetric Boussinesq hierarchies.
We construct a new variety of $N=2$ supersymmetric integrable systems by junction of pseudo-differential superspace Lax operators for $a=4$, $N=2$ KdV and multi-component $N=2$ NLS hierarchies. As an important particular case, we obtain Lax operator for $N=4$ super KdV system. A similar extension of one of $N=2$ super Boussinesq hierarchies is given. We also present a minimal $N=4$ supersymmetric extension of the second flow of $N=4$ KdV hierarchy and comment on its possible integrability.
We demonstrate that in a certain gauge the Lax matrices of the rational and hyperbolic Ruijsenaars--Schneider models have a quadratic $r$-matrix Poisson bracket which is an exact quadratization of the linear $r$--matrix Poisson bracket of the Calogero--Moser models. This phenomenon is explained by a geometric derivation of Lax equations for arbitrary flows of both hierarchies, which turn out to be governed by the same dynamical $R$--operator.
We present an approach to the construction of action principles for differential equations, and apply it to field theory in order to construct systematically, for integrable equations which are based on a Nijenhuis (or hereditary) operator, a ladder of action principles which is complementary to the well-known multi-Hamiltonian formulation. We work out results for the Korteweg-de Vries (KdV) equation, which is a member of the positive hierarchy related to a hereditary operator. Three negative hierarchies of (negative) evolution equations are defined naturally from the hereditary operator as we…
We present a discrete analogue of the so-called symmetry reduced or `constrained' KP hierarchy. As a result we obtain integrable discretisations, in both space and time, of some well-known continuous integrable systems such as the nonlinear Schroedinger equation, the Broer-Kaup equation and the Yajima-Oikawa system, together with their Lax pairs. It will be shown that these discretisations also give rise to a discrete description of the entire hierarchy of associated integrable systems. The discretisations of the Broer-Kaup equation and of the Yajima-Oikawa system are thought to be new.
Appropriate restrictions of Lax operators which allows to construction of (2+1)-dimensional integrable field systems, coming from centrally extended algebra of pseudo-differential operators, are reviewed. The gauge transformation and the reciprocal link between three classes of Lax hierarchies are established.
We propose a novel semi-discrete Kadomtsev--Petviashvili equation with two discrete and one continuous independent variables, which is integrable in the sense of having the standard and adjoint Lax pairs, from the direct linearisation framework. By performing reductions on the semi-discrete Kadomtsev--Petviashvili equation, new semi-discrete versions of the Drinfel'd--Sokolov hierarchies associated with Kac--Moody Lie algebras $A_r^{(1)}$, $A_{2r}^{(2)}$, $C_r^{(1)}$ and $D_{r+1}^{(2)}$ are successfully constructed. A Lax pair involving the fraction of $\mathbb{Z}_\mathcal{N}$ graded matrices …
By exhibiting the corresponding Lax pair representations we propose a wide class of integrable two-dimensional (2D) fermionic Toda lattice (TL) hierarchies which includes the 2D N=(2|2) and N=(0|2) supersymmetric TL hierarchies as particular cases. We develop the generalized graded R-matrix formalism using the generalized graded bracket on the space of graded operators with involution generalizing the graded commutator in superalgebras, which allows one to describe these hierarchies in the framework of the Hamiltonian formalism and construct their first two Hamiltonian structures. The first Ha…
In our recent paper [H. Baran, I.S. Krasil'shchik, O.I. Morozov, P. Voj{č}{á}k, Symmetry reductions and exact solutions of Lax integrable $3$-dimensional systems, Journal of Nonlinear Mathematical Physics, Vol. 21, No. 4 (December 2014), 643--671; arXiv:1407.0246 [nlin.SI], DOI: 10.1080/14029251.2014.975532}], we gave a complete description of symmetry reduction of four Lax-integrable (i.e., possessing a zero-curvature representation with a non-removable parameter) $3$-dimensional equations. Here we study the behavior of the integrability features of the initial equations under the reduction p…
Using linear combinations of Lax matrices of soliton hierarchies, we introduce trigonal curves by their characteristic equations, and determine Dubrovin type equations for zeros and poles of meromorphic functions defined as ratios of the Baker-Akhiezer functions. We straighten out all flows in soliton hierarchies under the Abel-Jacobi coordinates associated with Lax pairs, and generate algebro-geometric solutions to soliton hierarchies in terms of the Riemann theta functions, through observing asymptotic behaviors of the Baker-Akhiezer functions. We analyze the four-component AKNS soliton hier…
We show that the multi-boson KP hierarchies possess a class of discrete symmetries linking them to the discrete Toda systems. These discrete symmetries are generated by the similarity transformation of the corresponding Lax operator. This establishes a canonical nature of the discrete transformations. The spectral equation, which defines both the lattice system and the corresponding Lax operator, plays a key role in determining pertinent symmetry structure. We also introduce a concept of the square-root lattice leading to a family of new pseudo-differential operators with covariance under addi…
Performing their reduction to the one-dimensional case by imposing suitable constraints we derive the corresponding 1D fermionic TL hierarchies. We develop the generalized graded R-matrix formalism using the generalized graded bracket on the space of graded operators with an involution generalizing the graded commutator in superalgebras, which allow…
We demonstrate that in a certain gauge the elliptic Ruijsenaars--Schneider models admit Lax representation governed by the same dynamical $r$--matrix as their non--relativistic counterparts (Calogero--Moser models). This phenomenon was previously observed for the rational and hyperbolic models.
We propose the Lax operators for N=2 supersymmetric matrix generalization of the bosonic (1,s)-KdV hierarchies. The simplest examples - the N=2 supersymmetric a=4 KdV and a=5/2 Boussinesq hierarchies - are discussed in detail.
In this paper we revisit the subject of stationary flows of Lax hierarchies of a coupled KdV class. We explain the main ideas in the standard KdV case and then consider the dispersive water waves (DWW) case, with respectively 2 and 3 Hamiltonian representations. Each Hamiltonian representation gives us a different form of stationary flow. Comparing these, we construct Poisson maps, which, being non-canonical, give rise to bi-Hamiltonian representations of the stationary flows. An alternative approach is to use the Miura maps, which we do in the case of the DWW hierarchy, which has two ''modifi…
We consistently develop a recently proposed scheme of matrix extension of dispersionless integrable systems for the general case of multidimensional hierarchies, concentrating on the case of dimension $d\geqslant 4$. We present extended Lax pairs, Lax-Sato equations, matrix equations on the background of vector fields and the dressing scheme. Reductions, construction of solutions and connections to geometry are discussed. We consider separately a case of Abelian extension, for which the Riemann-Hilbert equations of the dressing scheme are explicitly solvable and give an analogue of Penrose for…
We suggest a direct algorithm for searching the Lax pairs for nonlinear integrable equations. It is effective for both continuous and discrete models. The first operator of the Lax pair corresponding to a given nonlinear equation is found immediately, coinciding with the linearization of the considered nonlinear equation. The second one is obtained as an invariant manifold to the linearized equation. A surprisingly simple relation between the second operator of the Lax pair and the recursion operator is discussed: the recursion operator can immediately be found from the Lax pair. Examples cons…
The complete integrability of the Ostrovsky-Vakhnenko equation is studied by means of symplectic gradient-holonomic and differential-algebraic tools. A compatible pair of polynomial Poissonian structures, Lax type representation and related infinite hierarchies of conservation laws are constructed. A new bi-infinite hierarchy of completely Lax type integrable Riemann type hydrodynamical systems is proposed. It is demonstrated that at s=3 the corresponding Riemann type hydrodynamical equation is related with the Degasperis-Processi equation, whose reduction gives rise to the Ostrovsky-Vakhnenko…
We present the Lax operator for the N=3 KdV hierarchy and consider its extensions. We also construct a new infinite family of N=2 supersymmetric hierarchies by exhibiting the corresponding super Lax operators. The new realization of N=4 supersymmetry on the two general N=2 superfields, bosonic spin 1 and fermionic spin 1/2, is discussed.
The $(n,m)^þ$ KdV hierarchy is a restriction of the KP hierarchy to a submanifold of pseudo-differential operators in a radio form. Explicit formula of the restricted Hamiltonian structure of KP is given which provides a new, more constructive proof of the isomorphism between the associated $W(n,m)$-algebra to $W_{n+m}\oplus W_m\oplus U(1)$ algebra, and the Hamiltonian property of the $(n,m)^þ$ KdV hierarchy as well as its Lax-Manakov triad representation. Similarly the Hamiltonian property for a version of modified $n^þ$ KdV and the isomorphism between $W_n$-algebra to $W_l\oplus W_m\oplus U(…
We study the underlying relationship between Painleve equations and infinite-dimensional integrable systems, such as the KP and UC hierarchies. We show that a certain reduction of these hierarchies by requiring homogeneity and periodicity yields Painleve equations, including their higher order generalization. This result allows us to clearly understand various aspects of the equations, e.g., Lax formalism, Hirota bilinear relations for tau-functions, Weyl group symmetry, and algebraic solutions in terms of the character polynomials, i.e., the Schur function and the universal character.
We introduce integrable KdV type hierarchy associated naturally with arbitrary semi-simple Frobenius manifold. We present hierarchy in a Lax form and show that it admits bihamiltonian description.
A construction of the bi-Hamiltonian structures for integrable systems on regular time scales is presented. The trace functional on an algebra of $δ$-pseudo-differential operators, valid on an arbitrary regular time scale, is introduced. The linear Poisson tensors and the related Hamiltonians are derived. The quadratic Poisson tensors is given by the use of the recursion operators of the Lax hierarchies. The theory is illustrated by $Δ$-differential counterparts of Ablowitz-Kaup-Newell-Segur and Kaup-Broer hierarchies.
We prove that any classical affine W-algebra W(g,f), where g is a classical Lie algebra and f is an arbitrary nilpotent element of g, carries an integrable Hamiltonian hierarchy of Lax type equations. This is based on the theories of generalized Adler type operators and of generalized quasideterminants, which we develop in the paper. Moreover, we show that under certain conditions, the product of two generalized Adler type operators is a Lax type operator. We use this fact to construct a large number of integrable Hamiltonian systems, recovering, as a special case, all KdV type hierarchies con…
In this paper, we give a unified construction of the recursion operators from the Lax representation for three integrable hierarchies: Kadomtsev-Petviashvili (KP), modified Kadomtsev-Petviashvili (mKP) and Harry-Dym under $n$-reduction. This shows a new inherent relationship between them. To illustrate our construction, the recursion operator are calculated explicitly for $2$-reduction and $3$-reduction.
We consider a general framework for integrable hierarchies in Lax form and derive certain universal equations from which `functional representations' of particular hierarchies (like KP, discrete KP, mKP, AKNS), i.e. formulations in terms of functional equations, are systematically and quite easily obtained. The formalism genuinely applies to hierarchies where the dependent variables live in a noncommutative (typically matrix) algebra. The obtained functional representations can be understood as `noncommutative' analogs of `Fay identities' for the KP hierarchy.
We present new recursion operators for (shadows of nonlocal) symmetries of the 4D Martínez Alonso-Shabat equation $u_{ty} = u_z u_{xy} - u_y u_{xz}$, and we show that their actions can produce new symmetries which are not contained in the Lie algebra of nonlocal symmetries presented in [I.S.Krasil'shchik, P.Vojčák, On the algebra of nonlocal symmetries for the 4D Martínez Alonso-Shabat equation. J. of Geom. and Phys. 163, (2021), 104122, (arXiv:2008.10281v1)]. To this end, we construct a non-Abelian covering of the equation in question using the Lax pair with two non-removable parameters.
A systematic framework is presented for the construction of hierarchies of soliton equations. This is realised by considering scalar linear integral equations and their representations in terms of infinite matrices, which give rise to all (2+1)- and (1+1)-dimensional soliton hierarchies associated with scalar differential spectral problems. The integrability characteristics for the obtained soliton hierarchies, including Miura-type transforms, $τ$-functions, Lax pairs as well as soliton solutions, are also derived within this framework.
The 8-parameter elliptic Sakai difference Painlevé equation admits a Lax formulation. We show that a suitable specialization of the Lax equation gives rise to the time-independent Schrödinger equation for the $BC_1$ 8-parameter 'relativistic' Calogero-Moser Hamiltonian due to van Diejen. This amounts to a generalization of previous results concerning the Painlevé-Calogero correspondence to the highest level in the two hierarchies.
The discrete symmetry transformations of the N=2 supersymmetric (n,m)-GNLS hierarchy are constructed. Their bosonic limit is analyzed and new discrete symmetries of the modified GNLS hierarchy are derived. The explicit relations connecting the integrable hierarchy, produced by the junction of the Lax operators for the N=2 supersymmetric a=4 KdV and (n-1,m)-GNLS hierarchies, to the N=2 supersymmetric (n,m)-GNLS hierarchy are established.
We analyze the dispersionless limits of the SUSY TB-B (sTB-B) and the SUSY TB (sTB) hierarchies. We present the Lax description for each of these models, as well as the N=2 sTB hierarchy and bring out various properties associated with them. We also discuss open questions that need to be addressed in connection with these models.
We develop the symbolic representation method to derive the hierarchies of $(2+1)$-dimensional integrable equations from the scalar Lax operators and to study their properties globally. The method applies to both commutative and noncommutative cases in the sense that the dependent variable takes its values in ${\mathbb C}$ or a noncommutative associative algebra. We prove that these hierarchies are indeed quasi-local in the commutative case as conjectured by Mikhailov and Yamilov in 1998. We propose a ring extension based on the symbolic representation. As examples, we give noncommutative vers…
Using deformations of associative products, derivative nonlinear Schrodinger (DNLS) hierarchies are recovered as AKNS-type hierarchies. Since the latter can also be formulated as Gelfand-Dickey-type Lax hierarchies, a recently developed method to obtain 'functional representations' can be applied. We actually consider hierarchies with dependent variables in any (possibly noncommutative) associative algebra, e.g., an algebra of matrices of functions. This also covers the case of hierarchies of coupled DNLS equations.
We generalize the Drinfeld-Sokolov formalism of bosonic integrable hierarchies to superspace, in a way which systematically leads to the zero curvature formulation for the supersymmetric integrable systems starting from the Lax equation in superspace. We use the method of symmetric space as well as the non-Abelian gauge technique to obtain the supersymmetric integrable hierarchies of the AKNS type from the zero curvature condition in superspace with the graded algebras, sl(n+1,n), providing the Hermitian symmetric space structure.
We define a Lax operator as a monic pseudodifferential operator $L(\partial)$ of order $N\geq 1$, such that the Lax equations $\dfrac{\partial L(\partial)}{\partial t_k}=[(L^{\frac kN}(\partial))_+,L(\partial)]$ are consistent and non-zero for infinitely many positive integers $k$. Consistency of an equation means that its flow is defined by an evolutionary vector field. In the present paper we demonstrate that the traditional theory of the KP and the $N$-th KdV hierarchies holds for arbitrary scalar Lax operators.
We present a method of determining a Lax representation for similarity reductions of autonomous and non-autonomous partial difference equations. This method may be used to obtain Lax representations that are general enough to provide the Lax integrability for entire hierarchies of reductions. A main result is, as an example of this framework, how we may obtain the q-Painlevé equation whose group of Bäcklund transformations is an affine Weyl group of type E_6^{(1)} as a similarity reduction of the discrete Schwarzian Korteweg-de Vries equation.
We demonstrate that SDYM equations for the Lie algebra of one-dimensional vector fields represent a natural reduction in the framework of general linearly degenerate dispersionless hierarchy. We define the reduction in terms of wave functions, introduce generating relation, Lax-Sato equations and the dressing scheme for the reduced hierarchy. Multidimensional case is also discussed.
