The space of holomorphic foliations of codimension one and degree $d\geq 2$ in $\mathbb{P}^n$ ($n\geq 3$) has an irreducible component whose general element can be written as a pullback $F^*\mathcal{F}$, where $\mathcal{F}$ is a general foliation of degree $d$ in $\mathbb{P}^2$ and $F:\mathbb{P}^n\dashrightarrow \mathbb{P}^2$ is a general rational linear map. We give a polynomial formula for the degrees of such components.
We establish a structure theorem for degree three codimension one foliations on projective spaces of dimension $n\ge 3$, extending a result by Loray, Pereira, and Touzet for degree three foliations on $\mathbb P^3$. We show that the space of codimension one foliations of degree three on $\mathbb{P}^n$, $n\ge 3$, has exactly $18$ distinct irreducible components parameterizing foliations without rational first integrals, and at least $6$ distinct irreducible components parameterizing foliations with rational first integrals.
The reduction of singularities of codimension one foliations is known in the case of ambient dimension 2 (Seidenberg, A. (1968). Reduction of singularities of the differential equation Ady= Bdx. American Journal of Mathematics, 90(1), 248-269) and 3 (Cano, F. (2004). Reduction of the singularities of codimension one singular foliations in dimension three. Annals of mathematics, 160(3), 907-1011). However, in greater ambient dimension it is still an open problem. In this work we prove the existence of local uniformization for codimension one foliations in arbitrary ambient dimension, in the cas…
In this article, we describe the structure of codimension one foliations with canonical singularities and numerically trivial canonical class on varieties with terminal singularities, extending a result of Loray, Pereira and Touzet to this context.
Let $X$ a projective manifold equipped with a codimension $1$ (maybe singular) distribution whose conormal sheaf is assumed to be pseudoeffective. By a theorem of Jean-Pierre Demailly, this distribution is actually integrable and thus defines a codimension $1$ holomorphic foliation $\F$. We aim at describing the structure of such a foliation, especially in the non abundant case: It turns out that $\F$ is the pull-back of one of the "canonical foliations" on a Hilbert modular variety. This result remains valid for "logarithmic foliated pairs".
In his work on birational classification of foliations on projective surfaces, Brunella showed that every regular foliation on a rational surface is algebraically integrable with rational leaves. This led Touzet to conjecture that every regular foliation on a rationally connected manifold is algebraically integrable with rationally connected leaves. Druel proved this conjecture for the case of weak Fano manifolds. In this paper, we extend this result showing that Touzet's conjecture is true for codimension one foliations on threefolds with nef anti-canonical bundle.
In this article, we give the structure of codimension one foliations with canonical singularities and numerically trivial canonical class on varieties with klt singularities. Building on recent works of Spicer, Cascini - Spicer and Spicer - Svaldi, we then describe the birational geometry of rank two foliations with canonical singularities and canonical class of numerical dimension zero on complex projective threefolds.
In this paper we extend to the singular setting the theory of Fano foliations developed in our previous paper. A Q-Fano foliation on a complex projective variety X is a foliation F whose anti-canonical class is an ample Q-Cartier divisor. In the spirit of Kobayashi-Ochiai Theorem, we prove that under some conditions the index i of a Q-Fano foliation is bounded by the rank r of F, and classify the cases in which i=r. Next we consider Q-Fano foliations F for which i=r-1. These are called del Pezzo foliations. We classify codimension 1 del Pezzo foliations on mildly singular varieties.
We will work with codimension one holomorphic foliations over the complex projective space, represented by integrable forms $ω\in H^0(Ω^1_{\PP^n}(e))$. Our main result is that, under suitable hypotheses, the Kupka set of the singular locus of $ω\in H^0(Ω^1_{\PP^3}(e))$, defined algebraically as a scheme, turns out to be arithmetically Cohen-Macaulay. As a consequence, we prove the connectedness of the Kupka set in $\PP^n$, and the splitting of the tangent sheaf of the foliation, provided that it is locally free.
In this work, we study dominant rational maps preserving singular holomorphic codimension one foliations on projective manifolds and that exhibit non-trivial transverse dynamics.
The purpose of this thesis is to obtain the degree of the exceptional component of the space of holomorphic foliations of degree two and codimension one in P3. I construct a parameter space as an explicit fiber bundle over the variety of complete flags. Using tools from equivariant intersection theory, especially Bott's formula, the degree is expressed as an integral over our parameter space.
This article is dedicated to the study of singular codimension $1$ foliations $\mathcal{F}$ on a simplicial complete toric variety $X$ and their pullbacks by dominant rational maps $φ:\mathbb{P}^n\dashrightarrow X$. First, we describe the singularities of $\mathcal{F}$ and $φ^*\mathcal{F}$ for a generic pair $(φ,\mathcal{F})$. Then we show that the first order deformations of $φ^*\mathcal{F}$ arising from first order unfoldings are the families of the form $φ_\varepsilon^*\mathcal{F}$, where $φ_\varepsilon$ is a perturbation of $φ$. We also prove that the deformations of the form $φ^*\mathcal{…
We present a variant of the classical Darboux-Jouanolou Theorem. Our main result provides a characterization of foliations which are pull-backs of foliations on surfaces by rational maps. As an application, we provide a structure theorem for foliations on 3-folds admitting an infinite number of extremal rays.
The aim of this paper is to study codimension one foliations on rational homogeneous spaces, with a focus on the moduli space of foliations of low degree on Grassmannians and cominuscule spaces. Using equivariant techniques, we show that codimension one degree zero foliations on (ordinary, orthogonal, symplectic) Grassmannians of lines, some spinor varieties, some Lagrangian Grassmannians, the Cayley plane (an $E_6$-variety) and the Freudenthal variety (an $E_7$-variety) are identified with restrictions of foliations on the ambient projective space. We also provide some evidence that such resu…
We aim to classify codimension 1 foliations $\mathscr{F}$ with canonical singularities and $ν(K_{\mathscr{F}}) < 3$ on threefolds of general type. We prove a classification result for foliations satisfying these conditions and having non-trivial algebraic part. We also describe purely transcendental foliations $\mathscr{F}$ with the canonical class $K_{\mathscr{F}}$ being not big on manifolds of general type in any dimension, assuming that $\mathscr{F}$ is non-singular in codimension $2$.
This article studies codimension one foliations on projective man-ifolds having a compact leaf (free of singularities). It explores the interplay between Ueda theory (order of flatness of the normal bundle) and the holo-nomy representation (dynamics of the foliation in the transverse direction). We address in particular the following problems: existence of foliation having as a leaf a given hypersurface with topologically torsion normal bundle, global structure of foliations having a compact leaf whose holonomy is abelian (resp. solvable), and factorization results.
We study the singular set of a codimension one holomorphic foliations on $\mathbb{P}^3$. We find a local normal form of a codimension two component of the singular set that is not of Kupka type. We also determined the number of non-Kupka points immersed in a codimension two component of the singular set of a codimension one foliation on $\mathbb{P}^3$.
In this work, we begin by showing that a holomorphic foliation with singularities is reduced if and only if its normal sheaf is torsion free. In addition, when the codimension of the singular locus is at least two, it is shown that being reduced is equivalent to the reflexivity of the tangent sheaf. Our main results state on one hand, that the tangent sheaf of a codimension one foliation in P^3 is locally free if and only the singular scheme is a curve, and that it splits if and only if that curve is arithmetically Cohen-Macaulay. On the other hand, we discuss when a split foliation in P^3 is …
We prove that a representation of the fundamental group of a quasi-projective manifold into the group of formal diffeomorphisms of one variable either is virtually abelian or, after taking the quotient by its center, factors through an orbicurve.
In this work we classify foliations on $\mathbb{CP}^3$ of codimension 1 and degree $2$ that have a line as singular set. To achieve this, we do a complete description of the components. We prove that the boundary of the exceptional component has only 3 foliations up to change of coordinates, and this boundary is contained in a logarithmic component. Finally we construct examples of foliations on $\mathbb{CP}^3$ of codimension 1 and degree $s \geq 3$ that have a line as singular set and such that they form a family with a rational first integral of degree $s+1$ or they are logarithmic foliation…
Let $ω$ be a differential $q$-form defining a foliation of codimension $q$ in a projective variety. In this article we study the singular locus of $ω$ in various settings. We relate a certain type of singularities, which we name \emph{persistent}, with the unfoldings of $ω$, generalizing previous work done on foliations of codimension $1$ in projective space. We also relate the absence of persistent singularities with the existence of a connection in the sheaf of $1$-forms defining the foliation. In the latter parts of the article we extend some of these results to toric varieties by making co…
The moduli space $\overline{\mathcal{M}}_{0,n}$ carries a codimension-$d$ cycle class $κ_{d}$. We consider the subspace $\mathcal{K}^{d}_{n}$ of $A^d(\overline{\mathcal{M}}_{0,n},\mathbb{Q})$ spanned by pullbacks of $κ_d$ via forgetful maps. We find a permutation basis for $\mathcal{K}^{d}_{n}$, and describe its annihilator under the intersection pairing in terms of $d$-dimensional boundary strata. As an application, we give a new permutation basis of the divisor class group of $\overline{\mathcal{M}}_{0,n}$.
We consider holomorphic foliations of dimension $k>1$ and codimension $\geq 1$ in the projective space $\mathbb{P}^n$, with a compact connected component of the Kupka set. We prove that, if the transversal type is linear with positive integers eigenvalues, then the foliation consist on the fibers of a rational fibration. As a corollary, if $\mathcal{F}$ is a foliation such that $dim(\mathcal{F})\geq cod(\mathcal{F})+2$ and has transversal type diagonal with different eigenvalues, then the Kupka component $K$ is a complete intersection and we get the same conclusion. The same conclusion holds i…
We study holomorphic foliations of aribitrary codimension in smooth complete toric varieties. We show that split foliations are stable if some good behaviour of their singular set is provided. As an application of these results, we exhibit irreducible components of the space of foliations that arise as pullbacks of some special T-invariant divisors.
Let $\mathcal{F}$ be written as $ f^{*}\mathcal{G}$, where $\mathcal{G}$ is a foliation in $ {\mathbb P^2}$ with three invariant lines in general position, say $(XYZ)=0$, and $f:{\mathbb P^n}--->{\mathbb P^2}$, $f=(F^α_{0}:F^β_{1}:F^γ_{2})$ is a nonlinear rational map. Using local stability results of singular holomorphic foliations, we prove that: if $n\geq 3$, the foliation $\mathcal{F}$ is globally stable under holomorphic deformations. As a consequence we obtain new irreducible componentes for the space of codimension one foliations on $\mathbb P^n$. We present also a result which characte…
We consider the set $K(n,c,\rtt)$ of codimension one holomorphic foliations on $¶^n,\,\, n\geq3$, with Chern class $c$, and with a compact, connected Kupka set of radial transversal type. We will prove that foliations in this set, have a rational first integral and define an irreducible component of the space of foliations.
In the main result of this paper we prove that a codimension one foliation of $\mathbb{P}^n$, which is locally a product near every point of some codimension two component of the singular set, has a Kupka component. In particular, we obtain a generalization of a known result of Calvo Andrade and Brunella about foliations with a Kupka component.
In this paper we prove that the anti-canonical bundle of a holomorphic foliation $\mathcal{F}$ on a complex projective manifold cannot be nef and big if either $\mathcal{F}$ is regular, or $\mathcal{F}$ has a compact leaf. Then we address codimension one regular foliations whose anti-canonical bundle is nef with maximal Kodaira dimension.
We prove that the tangent sheaf of a codimension one locally free distribution splits as a sum of line bundles if and only if its singular scheme is arithmetically Cohen-Macaulay. In addition, we show that a foliation by curves is given by an intersection of generically transversal holomorphic distributions of codimension one if and only if its singular scheme is arithmetically Buchsbaum. Finally, we establish that these foliations are determined by their singular schemes, and deduce that the Hilbert scheme of certain arithmetically Buchsbaum schemes of codimension $2$ is birational to a Grass…
We study codimension one foliations in projective space \PP^n over \CC by looking at its first order perturbations: unfoldings and deformations. We give special attention to foliations of rational and logarithmic type. For a differential form ωdefining a codimension one foliation, we present a graded module \UU(ω), related to the first order unfoldings of ω. If ωis a generic form of rational or logarithmic type, as a first application of the construction of \UU(ω), we classify the first order deformations that arise from first order unfoldings. Then, we count the number of isolated points in t…
Let $\mathscr{F}$ be a singular holomorphic foliation, of codimension $k$, on a complex compact manifold such that its singular set has codimension $\geq k+1$. In this work we determinate Baum-Bott residues for $\mathscr{F}$ with respect to homogeneous symmetric polynomials of degree $k+1$. We drop the Baum-Bott's generic hypothesis and we show that the residues can be expressed in terms of the Grothendieck residue of an one-dimensional foliation on a $(k+1)$-dimensional disc transversal to a $(k+1)$-codimensional component of the singular set of $\mathscr{F}$. Also, we show that Cenkl's algor…
Deformation of morphisms along leaves of foliations define the tangential foliation on the corresponding space of morphisms. We prove that codimension one fo-liations having a tangential foliation with at least one non-algebraic leaf are transversely homogeneous with structure group determined by the codimension of the non-algebraic leaf in its Zariski closure. As an application, we provide a structure theorem for degree three foliations on $P^3$ .
We classify nonsingular holomorphic foliations of dimension and codimension one on certain Hopf manifolds. More general, we prove that all nonsingular codimension one distributions on intermediary or generic Hopf manifolds are integrable and has holomorphic integral first. Also, we prove some results about singular holomorphic distributions on Hopf manifolds.
We describe the structure of singular transversely affine foliations of codimension one on projective manifolds X with zero first Betti number. Our result can be rephrased as a theorem on rank two reducible flat meromorphic connections.
We show that the set of singular holomorphic foliations of the projective spaces with split tangent sheaf and with good singular set is open in the space of holomorphic foliations. As applications we present a generalization of a result by Camacho-Lins Neto about linear pull-back foliations, we give a criterium for the rigidity of $\mathcal L$-foliations of codimension $k \ge 2$ and prove a conjecture by Cerveau-Deserti about the rigidity of a codimension one $\mathcal L$-foliation of $\mathbb P^4$. These results allow us to exhibit some previously unknown irreducible components of the spaces …
A codimension one singular holomorphic foliation is Newton non-degenerate if it satisfies the classical conditions of Kouchnirenko and Oka, in terms of its Newton polyhedra system. In this paper we prove that a foliation is Newton non-degenerate if and only if it admits a logarithmic reduction of singularities of a combinatorial nature.
In this article we study polynomial logarithmic $q$-forms on a projective space and characterize those that define singular foliations of codimension $q$. Our main result is the algebraic proof of their infinitesimal stability when $q=2$ with some extra degree assumptions. We determine new irreducible components of the moduli space of codimension two singular projective foliations of any degree, and we show that they are generically reduced in their natural scheme structure. Our method is based on an explicit description of the Zariski tangent space of the corresponding moduli space at a given…
We study smooth foliations of arbitrary codimension on homogeneous compact Kähler manifolds. We prove that smooth foliations on rational compact homogeneous manifolds are locally trivial fibrations and classify the smooth foliations with all leaves analytically dense on compact homogeneous Kähler manifolds. Both results are builded upon a (rough) structure Theorem for smooth foliations on compact homogeneous Kähler manifolds obtained by comparison of the foliation and the Borel-Remmert decomposition of the ambient.
Let $\mathcal F(r, d)$ denote the moduli space of algebraic foliations of codimension one and degree $d$ in complex proyective space of dimension $r$. We show that $\mathcal F(r, d)$ may be represented as a certain linear section of a variety of complexes. From this fact we obtain information on the irreducible components of $\mathcal F(r, d)$.
Non-dicritical codimension one foliations on projective spaces of dimension four or higher always have an invariant algebraic hypersurface. The proof relies on a strengthening of a result by Rossi on the algebraization/continuation of analytic subvarieties of projective spaces.
In this Note we establish a relation between sections in globally generated holomorphic vector bundles on Kähler manifolds, isotropic with respect to a non-degenerate quadratic form, and totally geodesic foliations on Euclidean open domains. We find a geometric condition for a totally geodesic foliation to originate in a holomorphic vector bundle. For codimension-two foliations, this description recovers of P. Baird and J. C. Wood. The universal objects that play a key role are the orthogonal Grassmannians.
We study codimension one holomorphic distributions on the projective three-space, analyzing the properties of their singular schemes and tangent sheaves. In particular, we provide a classification of codimension one distributions of degree at most 2 with locally free tangent sheaves, and show that codimension one distributions of arbitrary degree with only isolated singularities have stable tangent sheaves. Furthermore, we describe the moduli space of distributions in terms of Grothendieck's Quot-scheme for the tangent bundle. In certain cases, we show that the moduli space of codimension one …
We prove that the preimage of a germ of a singular analytic hypersurface under a germ of a finite holomorphic map $g: (\mathbb{C}^n,0) \rightarrow (\mathbb{C}^n,0)$ is again singular. This provides a generalization of previous results of this nature by Ebenfelt-Rothschild [Comm. Anal. Geom. 15 (2007), no. 2, 491-507], Lebl [arXiv:0812.2498], and Denkowski [Manuscripta Math. 149 (2016), no. 1-2, 83-91]. The same statement is proved for pullbacks of singular codimension one holomorphic foliations.
We show that the singular holomorphic foliations induced by dominant quasi-homogeneous rational maps fill out irreducible components of the space $\mathscr F_q(r, d)$ of singular foliations of codimension $q$ and degree $d$ on the complex projective space $\mathbb P^r$, when $1\le q \le r-2$. We study the geometry of these irreducible components. In particular we prove that they are all rational varieties and we compute their projective degrees in several cases.
