Let $Λ^r_n$ be the path algebra of the linearly oriented quiver of type $\mathbb{A}$ with $n$ vertices modulo the $r$-th power of the radical, and let $\widetildeΛ^r_n$ be the path algebra of the cyclically oriented quiver of type $\widetilde{\mathbb{A}}$ with $n$ vertices modulo the $r$-th power of the radical. Adachi gave a recurrence relation for the number of $τ$-tilting modules over $Λ^r_n$. In this paper, we show that the same recurrence relation also holds for the number of $τ$-tilting modules over $\widetildeΛ^r_n$. As an application, we give a new proof for a result by Asai on recurrence formulae for the number of support $τ$-tilting modules over $Λ^r_n$ and $\widetildeΛ^r_n$.
In this paper, we study tau-tilting modules over Nakayama algebras. We establish bijections between tau-tilting modules, triangulations of a polygon with a puncture and certain integer sequences. Moreover, we give an algorithm to construct the Hasse quiver of support tau-tilting modules by using Rejection Lemma of Drozd-Kirichenko.
$n\mathbb{Z}$-cluster tilting subcategories are an ideal setting for higher dimensional Auslander-Reiten theory. We give a complete classification of $n\mathbb{Z}$-cluster tilting subcategories of module categories of Nakayama algebras. In particular, we show that there are three kinds of Nakayama algebras that admit $n\mathbb{Z}$-cluster tilting subcategories: finite global dimension, selfinjective and non-Iwanaga-Gorenstein. Only the selfinjective ones can admit more than one $n\mathbb{Z}$-cluster tilting subcategory. It has been shown by the second author, that each such $n\mathbb{Z}$-clust…
We study the relation between simple-minded systems and two-term tilting complexes for self-injective Nakayama algebras. More precisely, we show that any simple-minded system of a self-injective Nakayama algebra is the image of the set of simple modules under a stable equivalence, which is given by the restriction of a standard derived equivalence induced by a two-term tilting complex. We achieve this by exploiting and connecting the mutation theories from the combinatorics of Brauer tree, configurations of stable translations quivers of type A, and triangulations of a punctured convex regular…
Let $Λ$ be a radical square zero Nakayama algebra with $n$ simple modules and let $Γ$ be the Auslander algebra of $Λ$. Then every indecomposable direct summand of a tilting $Γ$-module is either simple or projective. Moreover, if $Λ$ is self-injective, then the number of tilting $Γ$-modules is $2^n$; otherwise, the number of tilting $Γ$-modules is $2^{n-1}$.
We give a characterization of $n$-cluster tilting subcategories of representation-directed algebras based on the $n$-Auslander-Reiten translations. As an application we classify acyclic Nakayama algebras with homogeneous relations which admit an $n$-cluster tilting subcategory. Finally, we classify Nakayama algebras of global dimension $d<\infty$ which admit a $d$-cluster tilting subcategory.
We introduce higher dimensional analogues of the Nakayama algebras from the viewpoint of Iyama's higher Auslander--Reiten theory. More precisely, for each Nakayama algebra $A$ and each positive integer $d$, we construct a finite dimensional algebra $A^{(d)}$ having a distinguished $d$-cluster-tilting $A^{(d)}$-module whose endomorphism algebra is a higher dimensional analogue of the Auslander algebra of $A$. We also construct higher dimensional analogues of the mesh category of type $\mathbb{ZA}_\infty$ and the tubes.
We study universal localisations, in the sense of Cohn and Schofield, for finite dimensional algebras and classify them by certain subcategories of our initial module category. A complete classification is presented in the hereditary case as well as for Nakayama algebras and local algebras. Furthermore, for hereditary algebras, we establish a correspondence between finite dimensional universal localisations and finitely generated support tilting modules. In the Nakayama case, we get a similar result using $τ$-tilting modules, which were recently introduced by Adachi, Iyama and Reiten.
The aim of this paper is to study a poset isomorphism between two support $τ$-tilting posets. We take several algebraic information from combinatorial properties of support $τ$-tilting posets. As an application, we treat a certain class of basic algebras which contains preprojective algebras of type $A$, Nakayama algebras, and generalized Brauer tree algebras. We provide a necessary condition for that an algebra $Λ$ share the same support $τ$-tilting poset with a given algebra $Γ$ in this class. Furthermore, we see that this necessary condition is also a sufficient condition if $Γ$ is either a…
Enomoto showed for finite dimensional algebras that the classification of exact structures on the category of finitely generated projective modules can be reduced to the classification of 2-regular simple modules. In this article, we give a combinatorial classification of 2-regular simple modules for Nakayama algebras and we use this classification to answer several natural questions such as when there is a unique exact structure on the category of finitely generated projective modules for Nakayama algebras. We also classify 1-regular simple modules, quasi-hereditary Nakayama algebras and Naka…
The Murnaghan--Nakayama rule is a combinatorial rule for the character values of symmetric groups. We give a new combinatorial proof by explicitly finding the trace of the representing matrices in the standard basis of Specht modules. This gives an essentially bijective proof of the rule. A key lemma is an extension of a straightening result proved by the second author to skew-tableaux. Our module theoretic methods also give short proofs of Pieri's rule and Young's rule.
C. Ingalls and H. Thomas defined support tilting modules for path algebras. From tau-tilting theory introduced by T. Adachi, O. Iyama and I. Reiten, a partial order on the set of basic tilting modules defined by D. Happel and L. Unger is extended as a partial order on the set of support tilting modules. In this paper, we study a combinatorial relationship between the poset of basic tilting modules and basic support tilting modules. We will show that the subposet of tilting modules is uniquely determined by the poset structure of the set of support tilting modules.
In this paper we investigate the incidence algebras arising from one-branch extensions of "rectangles". There are four different ways to form such extensions, and all four kinds of incidence algebras turn out to be derived equivalent. We provide realizations for all of them by tilting complexes in a Nakayama algebra. As an application, we obtain the explicit formulas of the Coxeter polynomials for a half of Nakayama algebras (i.e., the Nakayama algebras $N(n,r)$ with $2r\geq n+2$). Meanwhile, an unexpected derived equivalence between Nakayama algebras $N(2r-1,r)$ and $N(2r-1,r+1)$ has been fou…
This present paper is devoted to the study of a class of Nakayama algebras $N_n(r)$ given by the path algebra of the equioriented quiver $\mathbb{A}_n$ subject to the nilpotency degree $r$ for each sequence of $r$ consecutive arrows. We show that the Nakayama algebras $N_n(r)$ for certain pairs $(n,r)$ can be realized as endomorphism algebras of tilting objects in the bounded derived category of coherent sheaves over a weighted projective line, or in its stable category of vector bundles. Moreover, we classify all the Nakayama algebras $N_n(r)$ of Fuchsian type, that is, derived equivalent to …
The homological theory of Auslander-Platzeck-Todorov on idempotent ideals laid much of the groundwork for higher Auslander-Reiten theory, providing the key technical lemmas for both higher Auslander correspondence as well as the construction of higher Nakayama algebras, among other results. Given a finite-dimensional algebra $A$ and idempotent $e$, we expand on a criterion of Jasso-Külshammer in order to determine a correspondence between the $2$-precluster-tilting subcategories of $\mathrm{mod}(A)$ and $\mathrm{mod}(A/\langle e\rangle)$. This is then applied in the context of generalising dim…
We provide a self-contained proof of the main properties of Brauer quotients of Young modules. We then use these results to give a new inductive proof of Nakayama's Conjecture on the blocks of the symmetric group.
We call a finite dimensional algebra A S-connected if the projective dimensions of the simple A-modules form an interval. We prove that a Nakayama algebra A is S-connected if and only if A is quasi-hereditary. We apply this result to improve an inequality for the global dimension of quasi-hereditary Nakayama algebras due to Brown. We furthermore classify the Nakayama algebras where equality is attained in Brown's inequality and show that they are enumerated by the even indexed Fibonacci numbers if the algebra is cyclic and by the odd indexed Fibonacci numbers if the algebra is linear.
Let $A$ be a Nakayama algebra with $n$ simple modules and a simple module $S$ of even projective dimension $m$. Choose $m$ minimal such that a simple $A$-module with projective dimension $2m$ exists, then we show that the global dimension of $A$ is bounded by $n+m-1$. This gives a combined generalisation of results of Gustafson \cite{Gus} and Madsen \cite{Mad}. In \cite{Bro}, Brown proved that the global dimension of quasi-hereditary Nakayama algebras with $n$ simple modules is bounded by $n$. Using our result on the bounds of global dimensions of Nakayama algebras, we give a short new proof o…
The stable module category has been realized as a subcategory of the unbounded homotopy category of projective modules by Kato. We construct the triangulated hull of this subcategory inside the homotopy category. This can also be used to characterize self-injective algebras. Moreover, we extend this construction to a subcategory closed under an induced Nakayama functor. Both of these categories are shown to be preserved by stable equivalences of Morita type. As an application, we study the Grothendieck group of this triangulated hull and compare it with the stable Grothendieck group.
The aim of this note is to outline the structure of the category of the Gorenstein projective modules for a Nakayama algebra. We are going to introduce the resolution quiver of such an algebra. It provides a fast algorithm in order to obtain the Gorenstein projective modules and to decide whether the algebra is a Gorenstein algebra or not, and whether it is CM-free or not.
We construct two functors from the submodule category of a self-injective representation-finite algebra $Λ$ to the module category of the stable Auslander algebra of $Λ$. These functors factor through the module category of the Auslander algebra of $Λ$. Moreover they induce equivalences from the quotient categories of the submodule category modulo their respective kernels and said kernels have finitely many indecomposable objects up to isomorphism. Their construction uses a recollement of the module category of the Auslander algebra induced by an idempotent and this recollement determines a ch…
In this paper we study the category of finitely generated modules over a right $3$-Nakayama artin algebra. First we give a characterization of right $3$-Nakayama artin algebras and then we give a complete list of non-isomorphic finitely generated indecomposable modules over any right $3$-Nakayama artin algebra. Also we compute all almost split sequences for the class of right $3$-Nakayama artin algebras. Finally, we classify finite dimensional right $3$-Nakayama algebras in terms of their quivers with relations.
We determine the derived representation type of Nakayama algebras and prove that a derived tame Nakayama algebra without simple projective module is gentle or derived equivalent to some skewed-gentle algebra, and as a consequence, we determine its singularity category.
Using the Nakayama functor, we construct an equivalence from a Serre quotient category of a category of finitely generated modules to a category of finite-dimensional modules. We then apply this result to the categories FI$_G$ and VI$_q$, and answer positively an open question of Nagpal on representation stability theory.
Optimal upper bounds are provided for the dominant dimensions of Nakayama algebras and more generally algebras $A$ with an idempotent $e$ such that there is a minimal faithful injective-projective module $eA$ and such that $eAe$ is a Nakayama algebra. This answers a question of Abrar and proves a conjecture of Yamagata for monomial algebras.
We give new improved bounds for the dominant dimension of Nakayama algebras and use those bounds to give a classification of Nakayama algebras with $n$ simple modules that are higher Auslander algebras with global dimension at least $n$. The classification is then used to extend the results on the inequality for the global dimension of Nakayama algebras obtained in \cite{MM}.
Let $\mathbf{k}$ be a fixed field of arbitrary characteristic, and let $Λ$ be a finite dimensional $\mathbf{k}$-algebra. Assume that $V$ is a left $Λ$-module of finite dimension over $\mathbf{k}$. F. M. Bleher and the author previously proved that $V$ has a well-defined versal deformation ring $R(Λ,V)$ which is a local complete commutative Noetherian ring with residue field isomorphic to $\mathbf{k}$. Moreover, $R(Λ,V)$ is universal if the endomorphism ring of $V$ is isomorphic to $\mathbf{k}$. In this article we prove that if $Λ$ is a basic connected cycle Nakayama algebra without simple modu…
Recently, we obtained in [7] a new characterization for an orthogonal system to be a simple-minded system in the stable module category of any representation-finite self-injective algebra. In this paper, we apply this result to give an explicit construction of simple-minded systems over self-injective Nakayama algebras.
In this paper we study right $n$-Nakayama algebras. Right $n$-Nakayama algebras appear naturally in the study of representation-finite algebras. We show that an artin algebra $Λ$ is representation-finite if and only if $Λ$ is right $n$-Nakayama for some positive integer $n$. We classify hereditary right $n$-Nakayama algebras. We also define right $n$-coNakayama algebras and show that an artin algebra $Λ$ is right $n$-coNakayama if and only if $Λ$ is left $n$-Nakayama. We then study right $2$-Nakayama algebras. We show how to compute all the indecomposable modules and almost split sequences ove…
The higher APR tilting modules and higher BB tilting modules were introduced and studied in higher Auslander-Reiten theory. Our objective is to consider these tilting modules by the corresponding simple modules, and show that the tensor product of higher APR (BB) tilting modules is a higher APR (BB) tilting module.
Let $A$ be the one point extension of an algebra $B$ by a projective $B$-module. We prove that the extension of a given support $τ$-tilting $B$-module is a support $τ$-tilting $A$-module; and, conversely, the restriction of a given support $τ$-tilting $A$-module is a support $τ$-tilting $B$-module. Moreover, we prove that there exists a full embedding of quivers between the corresponding poset of support $τ$-tilting modules.
We give a simple proof, using Auslander-Reiten theory, that the preprojective algebra of a basic hereditary algebra of finite representation type is Frobenius. We then describe its Nakayama automorphism, which is induced by the Nakayama functor on the module category of our hereditary algebra.
If A is an artin algebra, Gélinas has introduced an interesting upper bound for the finitistic dimension of A, namely the delooping level del A. We assert that for any Nakayama algebra, its finitistic dimension is equal to del A. This yields also a new proof that the finitistic dimension of A and of its opposite algebra are equal, as shown recently by Sen. If S is a simple module, let e(S) be the minimum of the projective dimension of S and of its injective envelope (one of these numbers has to be finite); and e*(S) the minimum of the injective dimension of S and of its projective cover. Then …
Let $A$ be a Nakayama algebra. We give a description of the singularity category of $A$ inside its stable module category. We prove that there is a duality between the singularity category of $A$ and the singularity category of its opposite algebra. As a consequence, the resolution quiver of $A$ and the resolution quiver of its opposite algebra have the same number of cycles and the same number of cyclic vertices.
We study which algebras have tilting modules that are both generated and cogenerated by projective-injective modules. Crawley-Boevey and Sauter have shown that Auslander algebras have such tilting modules; and for algebras of global dimension $2$, Auslander algebras are classified by the existence of such tilting modules. In this paper, we show that the existence of such a tilting module is equivalent to the algebra having dominant dimension at least $2$, independent of its global dimension. In general such a tilting module is not necessarily cotilting. Here, we show that the algebras which ha…
In this paper we introduce a generalization of the Nakayama functor for finite-dimensional algebras. This is obtained by abstracting its interaction with the forgetful functor to vector spaces. In particular, we characterize the Nakayama functor in terms of an ambidextrous adjunction of monads and comonads. In the second part we develop a theory of Gorenstein homological algebra for such Nakayama functor. We obtain analogues of several classical results for Iwanaga-Gorenstein algebras. One of our main examples is the module category $Λ\text{-}\operatorname{Mod}$ of a $k$-algebra $Λ$, where $k$…
In this paper we study the poset of basic tilting $kQ$-modules when $Q$ is a Dynkin quiver, and the poset of basic support $τ$-tilting $kQ$-modules when $Q$ is a connected acyclic quiver respectively. It is shown that the first poset is a distributive lattice if and only if $Q$ is of types $\mathbb{A}_{1}, \mathbb{A}_{2}$ or $\mathbb{A}_{3}$ with a nonlinear orientation and the second poset is a distributive lattice if and only if $Q$ is of type $\mathbb{A}_{1}$.
We study support $τ$-tilting modules over preprojective algebras of Dynkin type. We classify basic support $τ$-tilting modules by giving a bijection with elements in the corresponding Weyl groups. Moreover we show that they are in bijection with the set of torsion classes, the set of torsion-free classes and other important objects in representation theory. We also study $g$-matrices of support $τ$-tilting modules, which show terms of minimal projective presentations of indecomposable direct summands. We give an explicit description of $g$-matrices and prove that cones given by $g$-matrices co…
We give a necessary and sufficient condition for that the support $τ$-tilting poset of a finite dimensional algebra is isomorphic to the poset of symmetric group with weak order. Moreover we show that there are infinitely many finite dimensional algebras whose support $τ$-tilting posets are isomorphic to the poset of symmetric group with weak order.
The theory of finitely generated relative (co)tilting modules has been established in the 1980s by Auslander and Solberg, and infinitely generated relative tilting modules have recently been studied by many authors in the context of Gorenstein homological algebra. In this work, we build on the theory of infinitely generated Gorenstein tilting modules by developing "Gorenstein tilting approximations" and employing these approximations to study Gorenstein tilting classes and their associated relative cotorsion pairs. As applications of our results, we discuss the problem of existence of compleme…
Mutation of τ-tilting modules is a basic operation to construct a new support τ-tilting module from a given one by replacing a direct summand. The aim of this paper is to give a positive answer to the question posed in [AIR, Question 2.31] about mutation of τ-tilting modules.
In this paper, we study a relationship between tilting modules with finite projective dimension and dominant dimension with respect to injective modules as a generalization of results of Crawley-Boevey-Sauter, Nguyen-Reiten-Todorov-Zhu and Pressland-Sauter. Moreover, we give characterizations of almost $n$-Auslander-Gorenstein algebras and almost $n$-Auslander algebras by the existence of tilting modules. As an application, we describe a sufficient condition for almost $1$-Auslander algebras to be strongly quasi-hereditary by comparing such tilting modules and characteristic tilting modules.
We characterize right $4$-Nakayama artin algebras which appear naturally in the study of representation-finite artin algebras. For a right $4$-Nakayama artin algebra $Λ$, we classify all finitely generated indecomposable right $Λ$-modules and then we compute all almost split sequences over $Λ$. We also give a characterization of right $4$-Nakayama finite dimensional $K$-algebras in terms of their quivers with relations.
We show that every two-term tilting complex over an Artin algebra has a tilting module over a certain factor algebra as a homology group. Also, we determine the endomorphism algebra of such a homology group, which is given as a certain factor algebra of the endomorphism algebra of the two-term tilting complex. Thus, every derived equivalence between Artin algebras given by a two-term tilting complex induces a derived equivalence between the corresponding factor algebras.
For any given symmetrizable Cartan matrix $C$ with a symmetrizer $D$, Geiß~ et al. (2016) introduced a generalized preprojective algebra $Π(C, D)$. We study tilting modules and support $τ$-tilting modules for the generalized preprojective algebra $Π(C, D)$ and show that there is a bijection between the set of all cofinite tilting ideals of $Π(C,D)$ and the corresponding Weyl group $W(C)$ provided that $C$ has no component of Dynkin type. When $C$ is of Dynkin type, we also establish a bijection between the set of all basic support $τ$-tilting $Π(C,D)$-modules and the corresponding Weyl group $…
