In this paper we generalize the results of Sharma, Awasthi and Gupta (see \cite{SAG}). We work over a field of any characteristic with $q = p^k$ elements and we give a sufficient condition for the existence of a primitive element $α\in \mathbb{F}_{p^k}$ such that $f(α)$ is also primitive in $\mathbb{F}_{p^k}$, where $f(x) \in \mathbb{F}_{p^k}(x)$ is a quotient of polynomials with some restrictions. We explicitly determine the values of $k$ for which such a pair exists for $p=2,3,5$ and $7$.
We explore primitive Pythagorean triples of special forms $(a,b,b+g)$ and $(a,a+f,c)$, with $g,f\in\mathbb{Z}^+$. For each $g$ and $f$, we provide a method to generate infinitely many such primitive triples. Lastly, for each $g$, we describe the asymptotic density of primitive $(a,b,b+g)$ triples within all primitive triples of the same parity.
We demonstrate, using character sum arguments, the existence of primitive polynomials of degree n over a finite field GF(q) with the coefficients for x^(n-1), x^(n-2), and x^(n-3) prescribed, so long as char(GF(q)) is at least 5 and n is at least 9. The cases n=7, 8 are also considered.
We study the difference between the number of primitive roots modulo $p$ and modulo $p+k$ for prime pairs $p,p+k$. Assuming the Bateman-Horn conjecture, we prove the existence of strong sign biases for such pairs. More importantly, we prove that for a small positive proportion of prime pairs $p,p+k$, the dominant inequality is reversed.

Let $\mathbb{F}_q$ be the finite field of characteristic $p$ with $q$ elements and $\mathbb{F}_{q^n}$ its extension of degree $n$. Given polynomials $f_1(x), f_2(x) \in \mathbb{F}_q[x]$ with $\textrm{deg}(f_i(x)) \leq m_i$, for $i = 1, 2$, and such that the rational function $f_1(x)/f_2(x)$ belongs to a certain set which we define, we present a sufficient condition for the existence of a primitive element $α\in \mathbb{F}_{q^n}$, normal over $\mathbb{F}_q$, such that $f_1(α)/f_2(α)$ is also primitive.
Let $\mathcal C_Q$ be the cyclic group of order $Q$, $n$ a divisor of $Q$ and $r$ a divisor of $Q/n$. We introduce the set of $(r,n)$-free elements of $\mathcal C_Q$ and derive a lower bound for the the number of elements $θ\in \mathbb F_q$ for which $f(θ)$ is $(r,n)$-free and $F(θ)$ is $(R,N)$-free, where $ f, F \in \mathbb F_q[x]$. As an application, we consider the existence of $\mathbb F_q$-primitive points on curves like $y^n=f(x)$ and find, in particular, all the odd prime powers $q$ for which the elliptic curves $y^2=x^3 \pm x$ contain an $\mathbb F_q$-primitive point.
With $\Fq$ the finite field of $q$ elements, we investigate the following question. If $γ$ generates $\Fqn$ over $\Fq$ and $β$ is a non-zero element of $\Fqn$, is there always an $a \in \Fq$ such that $β(γ+ a)$ is a primitive element? We resolve this case when $n=3$, thereby proving a conjecture by Cohen. We also improve substantially on what is known when $n=4$.

Let $F=\mathbb{F}_{q^m}$, $m>6$, $n$ a positive integer, and $f=p/q$ with $p$, $q$ co-prime irreducible polynomials in $F[x]$ and deg$(p)$ $+$ deg$(q)= n$. A sufficient condition has been obtained for the existence of primitive pairs $(α, f(α))$ in $F$ such that for any prescribed $a, b$ in $E=\mathbb{F}_q$, Tr$F/E (α) = a$ and Tr$F/E (α^{-1}) = b$. Further, for every positive integer $n$, such a pair definitely exists for large enough $(q,m)$. The case $n = 2$ is dealt separately and proved that such a pair exists for all $(q,m)$ apart from at most $64$ choices.
We present computational results which strongly support a conjecture of Morgan and Mullen (1996), which states that for every extension $E/F$ of Galois fields there exists a primitive element of $E$ which is completely normal over $F$.
One unsolved mathematical problem remains the perfect cuboid problem. A perfect cuboid is a rectangular parallelepiped whose edges, face diagonals and space diagonal are all expressed as integers. No such cuboid has yet been discovered and its existence has also not been proven. This paper shows a proof of the non-existence of a perfect cuboid.

We introduce the primitivity of Fricke families, and give some examples. As its application, we first construct generators of the function field of the modular curve of level $N$ in terms of Fricke functions and Siegel functions, respectively. Furthermore, we use the special values of a certain function in a totally primitive Fricke family of level $N$ in order to generate ray class fields of imaginary quadratic fields.
The so called $k$-normal elements appear in the literature as a generalization of normal elements over finite fields. Recently, questions concerning the construction of $k$-normal elements and the existence of $k$-normal elements that are also primitive have attracted attention from many authors. The celebrated Primitive Normal Basis Theorem states that for any $n\ge 2$ and any finite field $\mathbb F_q$, there exists an element $α\in \mathbb F_{q^n}$ that is simultaneously primitive and normal over $\mathbb F_q$. In this paper, we prove some variations of this result, completing the proof of a conjecture proposed by Anderson and Mullen (2014). Our results also imply the existence of elements of $\mathbb F_{q^n}$ with multiplicative order $(q^n-1)/2$ and prescribed trace over $\mathbb F_q$.
We introduce and study iterated primitives of meromorphic quasimodular forms for $\operatorname{SL}_2(\mathbb Z)$, generalizing work of Manin and Brown for holomorphic modular forms. We prove that the algebra of iterated primitives of meromorphic quasimodular forms is naturally isomorphic to a certain explicit shuffle algebra. We deduce from this an Ax--Lindemann--Weierstrass type algebraic independence criterion for primitives of meromorphic quasimodular forms which includes a recent result of Paşol--Zudilin as a special case. Let $n\ge 2$ be an integer and let $\mathbb F_q$ be the finite field with $q$ elements, where $q$ is a prime power. Given $\mathbb F_q$-affine hyperplanes $\mathcal A_1, \ldots, \mathcal A_n$ of $\mathbb F_{q^n}$ in general position, we study the existence and distribution of primitive elements of $\mathbb F_{q^n}$, avoiding each $\mathcal A_i$. We obtain both asymptotic and concrete results, relating to past works on digits over finite fields.
Let $q$ be a prime power of a prime $p$, $n$ a positive integer and $\mathbb F_{q^n}$ the finite field with $q^n$ elements. The $k-$normal elements over finite fields were introduced and characterized by Huczynska et al (2013). Under the condition that $n$ is not divisible by $p$, they obtained an existence result on primitive $1-$normal elements of $\mathbb F_{q^n}$ over $\mathbb F_q$ for $q>2$. In this note, we extend their result to the excluded case $q=2$.

For $q$ an odd prime power with $q>169$ we prove that there are always three consecutive primitive elements in the finite field $\mathbb{F}_{q}$. Indeed, there are precisely eleven values of $q \leq 169$ for which this is false. For $4\leq n \leq 8$ we present conjectures on the size of $q_{0}(n)$ such that $q>q_{0}(n)$ guarantees the existence of $n$ consecutive primitive elements in $\mathbb{F}_{q}$, provided that $\mathbb{F}_{q}$ has characteristic at least~$n$. Finally, we improve the upper bound on $q_{0}(n)$ for all $n\geq 3$.
We prove existence and compute the limiting distribution of the image of rank-$\left(d-1\right)$ primitive subgroups of $\mathbb{Z}^{d}$ of large covolume in the space $X_{d-1,d}$ of homothety classes of rank-$\left(d-1\right)$ discrete subgroups of $\mathbb{R}^{d}$. This extends a theorem of Aka, Einsiedler and Shapira.
In this paper, we obtain asymptotic formulas for weighted first moments of central values of families of primitive quadratic Dirichlet $L$-functions whose conductors comprise only primes that split in a given quadratic number field. We then deduce a non-vanishing result of these $L$-functions at the point $s=1/2$.
We prove the existence of primitive sets (sets of integers in which no element divides another) in which the gap between any two consecutive terms is substantially smaller than the best known upper bound for the gaps in the sequence of prime numbers. The proof uses the probabilistic method. Using the same techniques we improve the bounds obtained by He for gaps in geometric-progression-free sets.

A primitive completely normal element for an extension $\mathbb{F}_{q^n}/\mathbb{F}_{q}$ of Galois fields is a generator of the multiplicative group of $\mathbb{F}_{q^n}$, which simultaneously is normal over every intermediate field of that extension. In this paper, we consider rational functions $f$ with some minor restrictions over the finite field $\mathbb{F}_{q^n},$ where $q=p^k$ for some prime $p$ and positive integer $k$. We establish a sufficient condition for the existence of a pair $(α,f(α))$ of primitive normal elements in $\mathbb{F}_{q^n}$ over $\mathbb{F}_{q}.$ Moreover, for $q=2^k$ and rational functions $f$ with quadratic numerators and denominators, we explicitly find that there are at most $55$ finite fields $\mathbb{F}_{q^n}$ in which such a pair $(α,f(α))$ of primitive normal elements may not exist.

We classify the dessins $\mathcal D$ for which the automorphism group $G$ acts primitively and faithfully on the points over one of the three critical values (without loss of generality the black vertices in the usual bipartite map representation).
