In this paper we give an explicit parametrisation of the moduli space of equivariant harmonic maps from a 2-torus to the 3-sphere. As Hitchin proved, a harmonic map of a 2-torus is described by its spectral data, which consists of a hyperelliptic curve together with a pair of differentials and a line bundle. The space of spectral data is naturally a fibre bundle over the space of spectral curves. For homogeneous tori the space of spectral curves is a disc and the bundle is trivial. For tori with a one-dimensional invariance group, we enumerate the path connected components of the space of spectral curves and show that they are either `helicoids' or annuli, and that they densely foliate the parameter space. The bundle structure of the moduli space of spectral data over the annuli components is nontrivial. In the two cases, the spectral data require only elementary and elliptic functions respectively and we give explicit formulae at every stage. Homogeneous tori and the Gauss maps of Delaunay cylinders are used as illustrative examples.
In this paper we study equivariant constrained Willmore tori in the 3-sphere. These tori admit a 1-parameter group of Möbius symmetries and are critical points of the Willmore energy under conformal variations. We show that the associated spectral curve of an equivariant torus is given by a double covering of $\mathbb C$ and classify equivariant constrained Willmore tori by the genus g of their spectral curve. In this case the spectral genus satisfies $g \leq 3.$
We present a deformation for constant mean curvature tori in the 3-sphere. We show that the moduli space of equivariant constant mean curvature tori in the 3-sphere is connected, and we classify the minimal, the embedded, and the Alexandrov embedded tori therein. We conclude with an instability result.
In this note we prove that toric Kähler metrics on complex projective space which are also $U(n)$-invariant are determined by their equivariant spectrum i.e. the list of eigenvalues of the Laplacian together with weights of the torus representation on the eigenspaces.
For all positive integers n we construct a 1-parameter family of conformal tori of revolution in the 3-sphere with n bulges. These tori arise by Darboux transformations of constant mean curvature tori but do not have constant mean curvature in the 3-sphere.
We consider proper-biharmonic flat tori with constant mean curvature (CMC) in spheres and find necessary and sufficient conditions for certain rectangular tori and square tori to admit full CMC proper-biharmonic immersions in $\mathbb{S}^n$, as well as the explicit expressions of some of these immersions.
We characterize Willmore tori in the 4-sphere with nontrivial normal bundle as Twistor projections of elliptic curves in complex projective space or as inverted minimal tori (with planar ends) in Euclidean 4-space.
We show a non-existence result for some class of equivariant maps between sphere bundles over tori. The notion of equivariant KO-degree is used in the proof. As an application to Seiberg-Witten theory, for a connected closed oriented spin 4-manifold with indefinite intersection form, we have a new bound of the second Betti number by the signature and a non-negative integer determined by the quadruple cup product on the first cohomology group and some maps in KO-theory induced from the Albanese map.
We use bifurcation theory to show the existence of infinite sequences isometric embeddings of tori with constant mean curvature (CMC) in Euclidean spheres that are not isometrically congruent to the CMC Clifford tori, and accumulating at some CMC Clifford torus.
We construct eternal mean curvature flows of tori in perturbations of the standard unit sphere $\Bbb{S}^3$. This has applications to the study of the Morse homologies of area functionals over the space of embedded tori in $\Bbb{S}^3$.
We show that the extrinsic diameter of immersed flat tori in the 3-sphere is $π$ under a certain topological condition for the projection of their asymptotic curves with respect to the Hopf fibration.
Let O be a symplectic toric 2n-dimensional orbifold with a fixed T^n-action and with a toric Kahler metric g. We previously explored whether, when O is a manifold, the equivariant spectrum of the Laplace operator acting on smooth functions on (O,g) determines the moment polytope of O, and hence by Delzant's theorem determines O up to symplectomorphism. In the setting of toric orbifolds we significantly improve upon our previous results and show that the moment polytope of a generic toric orbifold is determined by its equivariant spectrum, up to two possibilities and up to translation. This inv…
We compute lower bounds for the Morse index and nullity of constant mean curvature tori of revolution in the three-dimensional unit sphere. In particular, all such tori have index at least five, with index growing at least linearly with respect to the number of the surfaces' bulges, and the index of such tori can be arbitrarily large.
We prove that a constrained Willmore immersion of a 2-torus into the conformal 4-sphere is either of "finite type", that is, has a spectral curve of finite genus, or is of "holomorphic type" which means that it is super conformal or Euclidean minimal with planar ends. This implies that all constrained Willmore tori in the 4-sphere can be constructed rather explicitly by methods of complex algebraic geometry. The proof uses quaternionic holomorphic geometry in combination with integrable systems methods similar to those of Hitchin's approach to the study of harmonic tori in the 3-sphere.
We prove that any constant mean curvature embedded torus in the three dimensional sphere is axially symmetric, and use this to give a complete classification of such surfaces for any given value of the mean curvature.
We compute the homotopy type of the space of T^n-equivariant symplectic embeddings from the standard 2n-dimensional ball of some fixed radius into a 2n-dimensional symplectic-toric manifold M, and use this computation to define a Z-valued step function on the positive real line which is an invariant of the symplectic-toric type of M. We conclude with a discussion of the partially equivariant case of this result.
We consider generalized Hodge-Laplace operators $αd δ+ βδd$ for $α, β> 0$ on $p$-forms on compact Riemannian manifolds. In the case of flat tori and round spheres of different radii, we explicitly calculate the spectrum of these operators. Furthermore, we investigate under which circumstances they are isospectral.
This paper is devoted to the study of minimal immersions of flat $n$-tori into spheres, especially those immersed by the first eigenfunctions (such immersion is called $λ_1$-minimal immersion), which also play important roles in spectral geometry. It is known that there are only two non-congruent $λ_1$-minimal $2$-tori in spheres, which are both flat. For higher dimensional case, the Clifford $n$-torus in $\mathbb{S}^{2n-1}$ might be the only known example in the literature. In this paper, by discussing the general construction of homogeneous minimal flat $n$-tori in spheres, we construct many…
Special class of surfaces in five-dimensional sphere in $C^3$ is considered. Immersion equations for minimal tori of that class are shown to be reducible to the equation $u_{z\bar z}=e^u-e^{-2u}$ which is integrable by means of inverse scattering method. Finite-gap minimal tori are constructed.
