In $(2n+1)$-dimensional non-Sasakian contact metric manifolds, we consider Legendre curves whose mean curvature vector fields are $\mathcal{C}$-parallel or $\mathcal{C}$-proper in the tangent or normal bundles. We obtain the curvature characterizations of these curves. Moreover, we give some examples of these kinds of curves which satisfy the conditions of our results.
We consider interpolating sesqui-harmonic Legendre curves in Sasakian space forms. We find the necessary and sufficient conditions for Legendre curves in Sasakian space forms to be interpolating sesqui-harmonic. Finally, we obtain an example for an interpolating sesqui-harmonic Legendre curve in a Sasakian space form.
We classify the biharmonic non-Legendre curves in a Sasakian space form for which the angle between the tangent vector field and the characteristic vector field is constant and obtain explicit examples of such curves in $\mathbb{R}^{2n+1}(-3)$.
This paper is devoted to the study of curvature and torsion of almost contact curves in trans-Sasakian 3-Manifolds. The conditions for the frenet curves to be almost contact curves in trans-Sasakian 3-manifolds have been obtained.
We introduce generalized almost contact structures which admit the $B$-field transformations on odd dimensional manifolds. We provide definition of generalized Sasakain structures from the view point of the generalized almost contact structures. We obtain a generalized Sasakian structure on a non-compact manifold which does not arise as a pair of ordinary Sasakian structures. However we show that a generalized Sasakian structure on compact 3-dimensional manifold is equivalent to a pair of Sasakian structures with the same metric. Finally we extend a definition of a generalized almost contact s…
We classify the biharmonic Legendre curves in a Sasakian space form, and obtain their explicit parametric equations in the $(2n+1)$-dimensional unit sphere endowed with the canonical and deformed Sasakian structures defined by Tanno. Then, composing with the flow of the Reeb vector field, we transform a biharmonic integral submanifold into a biharmonic anti-invariant submanifold. Using this method we obtain new examples of biharmonic submanifolds in spheres and, in particular, in $\mathbb{S}^{7}$.
Warped product CR-submanifolds in Kaehlerian manifolds were intensively studied only since 2001 after the impulse given by B.Y. Chen. Immediately after, another line of research, similar to that concerning Sasakian geometry as the odd dimensional version of Kaehlerian geometry, was developed, namely warped product contact CR-submanifolds in Sasakian manifolds. In this note we proved that there exists no proper doubly warped product contact CR-submanifolds in trans-Sasakian manifolds.
We classify all proper-biharmonic Legendre curves in a Sasakian space form and point out some of their geometric properties. Then we provide a method for constructing anti-invariant proper-biharmonic submanifolds in Sasakian space forms. Finally, using the Boothby-Wang fibration, we determine all proper-biharmonic Hopf cylinders over homogeneous real hypersurfaces in complex projective spaces.
The question of whether a Sasakian metric can admit an additional compatible (K-)contact structure is addressed. In the complete case if the second structure is also assumed Sasakian, works of Tachibana-Yu and Tanno show that the manifold must be 3-Sasakian or an odd dimensional sphere with constant curvature. Some extensions of this result are obtained, mainly in dimensions 3 and 5.
We solve the problem posed by Boyer and Galicki about the existence of K-contact simply connected manifolds with no Sasakian structure. Although the result lies in the framework of metric contact geometry, our methods come from contact and symplectic geometry and are based on the method of fat bundles developed by Sternberg, Weinstein and Lerman.
We construct a compact simply-connected 7-dimensional manifold admitting a K-contact structure but not a Sasakian structure. We also study rational homotopy properties of such manifolds, proving in particular that a simply-connected 7-dimensional Sasakian manifold has vanishing cup-product on the second cohomology and that it is formal if and only if all its triple Massey products vanish.
In this paper, we study warped products of contact skew-CR submanifolds, called contact skew CR-warped products. We establish an inequality for the squared norm of the second fundamental form in terms of the warping function and the slant angle. The equality case in the statement of the inequality is investigated and some applications of derived inequality are given. Furthermore, we provide a non-trivial example of such submanifolds.
In this paper we define coeffective de Rham cohomology for basic forms on a $K$--contact or Sasakian manifold $M$ and we discuss its relation with usually basic cohomology of $M$. When $M$ is of finite type (for instance it is compact) several inequalities relating some basic coeffective numbers to classical basic Betti numbers of $M$ are obtained. In the case of Sasakian manifolds, we define and study coeffective Dolbeault and Bott-Chern cohomologies for basic forms. Also, in this case, we prove some Hodge decomposition theorems for coeffective basic de Rham cohomology, relating this cohomolo…
Under a pulled-back approach given in [1] and firstly presented in [2], we introduce, in this paper, the concepts of almost contact and normal almost contact Finsler structures on the pulled-back bundle. Properties of structures partly Sasakians are studied. Using the hh-curvature tensor of Chern connection given in [2], we obtain some characterizations of horizontally Finslerian K-contact structures via the horizontal Ricci tensor and the flag curvature.
It is well known that a unit sphere admits Sasakian 3-structure. Also, Sasakian manifolds are locally isometric to a unit sphere under several curvature and critical conditions. So, a natural question is: Does there exist any curvature or critical condition under which a Sasakian 3-manifold represents a geometrical object other than the unit sphere? In this regard, as an extension of the $\ast$-Ricci soliton, the notion of $\ast$-Ricci-Yamabe soliton is introduced and studied on two classes contact metric manifolds. A $(2n + 1)$-dimensional non-Sasakian $N(k)$-contact metric manifold admitting…
We study the Lie algebra of infinitesimal isometries on compact Sasakian and K--contact manifolds. On a Sasakian manifold which is not a space form or 3--Sasakian, every Killing vector field is an infinitesimal automorphism of the Sasakian structure. For a manifold with K--contact structure, we prove that there exists a Killing vector field of constant length which is not an infinitesimal automorphism of the structure if and only if the manifold is obtained from the Konishi bundle of a compact pseudo--Riemannian quaternion--Kaehler manifold after changing the sign of the metric on a maximal ne…
We introduce new metric structures on a smooth manifold (called "weak" structures) that generalize the almost contact, Sasakian, cosymplectic, etc. metric structures $(φ,ξ,η,g)$ and allow us to take a fresh look at the classical theory. We demonstrate this statement by generalizing several well-known results. We prove that any Sasakian structure is rigid, i.e., our weak Sasakian structure is homothetically equivalent to a Sasakian structure. We show that a weak almost contact structure with parallel tensor $φ$ is a weak cosymplectic structure and give an example of such a structure on the prod…
In this paper, we study the invariant and noninvariant hypersurfaces of (1,1,1) almost contact manifolds, Lorentzian almost paracontact manifolds and Lorentzian para-Sasakian manifolds, respectively. We show that a noninvariant hypersurface of an (1,1,1) almost contact manifold admits an almost product structure. We investigate hypersurfaces of affinely cosymplectic and normal (1,1,1) almost contact manifolds. It is proved that a noninvariant hypersurface of a Lorentzian almost paracontact manifold is an almost product metric manifold. Some necessary and sufficient conditions have been given f…
We characterize biharmonic anti-invariant surfaces in $3$-dimensional generalized $(κ, μ)$-manifolds with non-zero constant mean curvature by means of the scalar curvature of the ambient space and the mean curvature. In addition, we give a method for constructing infinity many examples of biharmonic submanifolds in a certain $3$-dimensional generalized $(κ, μ)$-manifold. Moreover, we determine $3$-dimensional generalized $(κ, μ)$-manifolds which admit a certain kind of proper biharmonic foliation.
In this article we study a class of normalθcomplexθcontactθmetricθmanifold which is called a complex Sasakian manifold. This kind of manifold has a globally defined complex contact form and normal complex contact structure. We give the definition of a complex Sasakian manifold by consider the real case and we present general properties. Also we obtain some useful curvature relations. Finally we examine flatness conditions for general curvature tensor B.
In this paper we deal with two classes of mixed metric 3-structures, namely the mixed 3-Sasakian structures and the mixed metric 3-contact structures. Firstly we study some properties of the curvature of mixed 3-Sasakian structures, proving that any manifold endowed with such a structure is Einstein. Then we prove the identity between the class of mixed 3-Sasakian structures and the class of mixed metric 3-contact structures.
We introduce two classes of null hypersurfaces of an indefinite Sasakian manifold, $(\overline{M}, \overlineϕ,ζ, η)$, tangent to the characteristic vector field $ζ$, called; {\it contact screen conformal} and {\it contact screen umbilic} null hypersurfaces. These hypersurfaces come in to fill the existing gap in screen conformal and screen totally umbilic null hypersurfaces. We prove that such hypersurfaces are contained in indefinite Sasakian space forms of constant $\overlineϕ$-sectional curvature of $-3$.
We show that the contact reduction can be specialized to Sasakian manifolds. We link this Sasakian reduction to Kähler reduction by considering the Kähler cone over a Sasakian manifold. We present examples of Sasakian manifolds obtained by $S^1$ reduction of standard Sasakian spheres.
First, we prove that indefinite Sasakian manifolds do not admit any screen conformal $r$-null submanifolds, tangent to the structure vector field. We, therefore, define a special class of null submanifolds, called; {\it contact screen conformal} $r$-null submanifold of indefinite Sasakian manifolds. Several characterization results, on the above class of null submanifolds, are proved. In particular, we prove that such null submanifolds exist in indefinite Sasakian space forms of constant holomorphic sectional curvatures of $-3$.
We complete the reduction of Sasakian manifolds with the non-zero case by showing that Willett's contact reduced space is compatible with the Sasakian structure. We then prove the compatibility of the non-zero Sasakian (in particular, contact) reduction with the reduction of the Kähler (in particular, symplectic) cone. We provide examples obtained by toric actions on Sasakian spheres and make some comments concerning the curvature of the quotients.
We prove the following results: (i) A Sasakian metric as a non-trivial Ricci soliton is null $η$-Einstein, and expanding. Such a characterization permits to identify the Sasakian metric on the Heisenberg group $\mathcal{H}^{2n+1}$ as an explicit example of (non-trivial) Ricci soliton of such type. (ii) If an $η$-Einstein contact metric manifold $M$ has a vector field $V$ leaving the structure tensor and the scalar curvature invariant, then either $V$ is an infinitesimal automorphism, or $M$ is $D$-homothetically fixed $K$-contact.
We provide a new, self-contained and more conceptual proof of the result that an almost contact metric manifold of dimension greater than 5 is Sasakian if and only if it is nearly Sasakian.
Kollár has found subtle obstructions to the existence of Sasakian structures on 5-dimensional manifolds. In the present article we develop methods of using these obstructions to distinguish K-contact manifolds from Sasakian ones. In particular, we find the first example of a closed 5-manifold M with $H_1(M,Z)=0$ which is K-contact but which carries no semi-regular Sasakian structures.
Using the Hard Lefschetz Theorem for Sasakian manifolds, we find two examples of compact K-contact nilmanifolds with no compatible Sasakian metric in dimensions five and seven, respectively
We study the question of the existence of left-invariant Sasaki contact structures on the seven-dimensional nilpotent Lie groups. It is shown that the only Lie group allowing Sasaki structure with a positive definite metric tensor is the Heisenberg group. We find a complete list of the 22 classes of seven-dimensional nilpotent Lie groups which admit pseudo-Sasaki structure. We also present a list of 25 classes of seven-dimensional nilpotent Lie groups admitting a $K$-contact structure, but not the pseudo-Sasaki structure. All the contact structures considered are central extensions of six-dime…
We extend a result of Patodi for closed Riemannian manifolds to the context of closed contact manifolds by showing the condition that a manifold is an $η$-Einstein Sasakian manifold is spectrally determined. We also prove that the condition that a Sasakian space form has constant $ϕ$-sectional curvature $c$ is spectrally determined.
We prove that every nearly Sasakian manifold of dimension greater than five is Sasakian. This provides a new criterion for an almost contact metric manifold to be Sasakian. Moreover, we classify nearly cosymplectic manifolds of dimension greater than five.
We find a family of five dimensional completely solvable compact manifolds that constitute the first examples of $K$-contact manifolds which satisfy the Hard Lefschetz Theorem and have a model of Tievsky type just as Sasakian manifolds but do not admit any Sasakian structure.
Contact metric $(κ,μ)$-spaces are generalizations of Sasakian spaces. We introduce a weak $(κ,μ)$ condition as a generalization of the K-contact one and show that many of the known results from generalized Sasakian geometry hold in the weaker generalized K-contact geometry setting. In particular, we prove existence of K-contact and $(κ,μ=2)$-structures under some conditions on the Boeckx invariant.
We show that every five-dimensional Sasakian Lie algebra with trivial center is $φ$-symmetric. Moreover starting from a particular Sasakian structure on the Lie group $SL(2,\mathbb{R})\times\text{Aff}(\mathbb{R})$ we obtain a family of contact metric $(k,μ)$ structures whose Boeckx invariants assume all values less than $-1$.
On a sub-Riemannian manifold, a connection with skew-symmetric torsion is defined as the unique connection from the class of $N$-connections that has this property. Two cases are considered separately: sub-Riemannian structure of even rank, and sub-Riemannian structure of odd rank. The resulting connection, called the canonical connection, is not a metric connection in the case when the sub-Riemannian structure is of even rank. The structure of an almost quasi-Sasakian manifold is defined as an almost contact metric structure of odd rank that satisfies additional requirements. Namely, it is re…

Walczak formula is a very nice tool for understanding the geometry of a Riemannian manifold equipped with two orthogonal complementary distributions. Svensson [7] has shown that this formula simplifies to a Bochner type formula when we are dealing with Kähler manifolds and holomorphic (integrable) distributions. Here, with adapted notions as invariant distribution and (contact) holomorphicity, we derive the special form of the Walczack formula on a Sasaki manifold. Then we apply a standard Bochner argument in the study of (contact) holomorphic distributions. Some other applications for (pseudo…
We show that any compact quaternionic contact (qc) hypersurfaces in a hyper-Kähler manifold which is not totally umbilical has an induced qc structure, locally qc homothetic to the standard 3-Sasakian sphere. We also show that any nowhere umbilical qc hypersurface in a hyper-Kähler manifold is endowed with an involutive 7-dimensional distribution whose integral leafs are locally qc-conformal to the standard 3-Sasakian sphere.
In this paper, based on the classical K. Yano's formula, we first establish an optimal integral inequality for compact Lagrangian submanifolds in the complex space forms, which involves the Ricci curvature in the direction $J\vec{H}$ and the norm of the covariant differentiation of the second fundamental form $h$, where $J$ is the almost complex structure and $\vec{H}$ is the mean curvature vector field. Second and analogously, for compact Legendrian submanifolds in the Sasakian space forms with Sasakian structure $(φ,ξ,η,g)$, we also establish an optimal integral inequality involving the Ricc…
In this paper the notion of quasi-isometry between two Riemannian manifolds has been introduced. This idea is also imposed to study quasi-isometry between two almost contact metric manifolds. Moving further, some curvature properties of two quasi-isometrically embedded almost contact metric manifolds, $N(k)-$contact metric manifolds and Sasakian manifolds are investigated. Next, an illustrative example of a quasi-isometry between two Sasakian structures is constructed. Finally, a relation between the scalar curvature and the quasi-isometric constants for two quasi-isometric Riemannian manifold…
In this paper we study a semi-Riemannian submersion from Lorentzian (para)almost contact manifolds and find necessary and sufficient conditions for the characteristic vector field to be vertical or horizontal. We also obtain decomposition theorems for an anti-invariant semi-Riemannian submersion from Lorentzian (para)Sasakian manifolds onto a Lorentzian manifold.
A structure on an almost contact metric manifold is defined as a generalization of well-known cases: Sasakian, quasi-Sasakian, Kenmotsu and cosymplectic. Then we consider a semi-invariant $ξ^{\bot}$-submanifold of a manifold endowed with such a structure and two topics are studied: the integrability of distributions defined by this submanifold and characterizations for the totally umbilical case. In particular we recover results of Kenmotsu, Eum and Papaghiuc.
The purpose of this paper is to study reducibility properties in Sasakian geometry. First we give the Sasaki version of the de Rham Decomposition Theorem; however, we need a mild technical assumption on the Sasaki automorphism group which includes the toric case. Next we introduce the concept of {\it cone reducible} and consider $S^3$ bundles over a smooth projective algebraic variety where we give a classification result concerning contact structures admitting the action of a 2-torus of Reeb type. In particular, we can classify all such Sasakian structures up to contact isotopy on $S^3$ bundl…
The Newman-Penrose-Perjes formalism is applied to Sasakian 3-manifolds and the local form of the metric and contact structure is presented. The local moduli space can be parameterised by a single function of two variables and it is shown that, given any smooth function of two variables, there exists locally a Sasakian structure with scalar curvature equal to this function. The case where the scalar curvature is constant ($η$-Einstein Sasakian metrics) is completely solved locally. The resulting Sasakian manifolds include $S^3$, $Nil$ and $\tilde{SL_2R}$, as well as the Berger spheres. It is al…
We obtain the parametric equations of all biharmonic Legendre curves and Hopf cylinders in the 3-dimensional unit sphere endowed with the modified Sasakian structure defined by Tanno.
3-quasi-Sasakian manifolds were recently studied by the authors as a suitable setting unifying 3-Sasakian and 3-cosymplectic geometries. In this paper some geometric properties of this class of almost 3-contact metric manifolds are briefly reviewed, with an emphasis on those more related to physical applications.
We prove that any non-Sasakian contact metric (κ,μ)-space admits a canonical η-Einstein Sasakian or η-Einstein paraSasakian metric. An explicit expression for the curvature tensor fields of those metrics is given and we find the values of κand μfor which such metrics are Sasaki-Einstein and paraSasaki-Einstein. Conversely, we prove that, under some natural assumptions, a K-contact or K-paracontact manifold foliated by two mutually orthogonal, totally geodesic Legendre foliations admits a contact metric (κ,μ)-structure. Furthermore, we apply the above results to the geometry of tangent sphere b…
A version of Lichnerowicz' theorem giving a lower bound of the eigenvalues of the sub-Laplacian under a lower bound on the Sp(1)Sp(1) component of the qc-Ricci curvature on a compact seven dimensional quaternionic contact manifold is established. It is shown that in the case of a seven dimensional compact 3-Sasakian manifold the lower bound is reached if and only if the quaternionic contact manifold is a round 3-Sasakian sphere.
