We study $p$-adic families of cohomological automorphic forms for ${\mathrm{GL}}(2)$ over imaginary quadratic fields and prove that families interpolating a Zariski-dense set of classical cuspidal automorphic forms only occur under very restrictive conditions. We show how to computationally determine when this is not the case and establish concrete examples of families interpolating only finitely many Bianchi modular forms.
We establish a rationality result for the twisted Asai L-values attached to a Bianchi cusp form and construct distributions interpolating these L-values. Using the method of abstract Kummer congruences, we then outline the main steps needed to show that these distributions come from a measure.
The theory of overconvergent modular symbols, developed by Rob Pollack and Glenn Stevens, gives a beautiful and effective construction of the $p$-adic $L$-function of a modular form. In this paper, we give an analogue of their results for Bianchi modular forms, that is, modular forms over imaginary quadratic fields. In particular, we prove control theorems that say that the canonical specialisation map from overconvergent to classical Bianchi modular symbols is an isomorphism on small slope eigenspaces of suitable Hecke operators. We also give an explicit link between the classical modular sym…
The Asai (or twisted tensor) $L$-function of a Bianchi modular form $Ψ$ is the $L$-function attached to the tensor induction to $\mathbb{Q}$ of its associated Galois representation. In this paper, when $Ψ$ is ordinary at $p$ we construct a $p$-adic analogue of this $L$-function: that is, a $p$-adic measure on $\mathbb{Z}_p^\times$ that interpolates the critical values of the Asai $L$-function twisted by Dirichlet characters of $p$-power conductor. The construction uses techniques analogous to those used by Lei, Zerbes and the first author in order to construct an Euler system attached to the A…
Let $K$ be an imaginary quadratic field. In this article, we study the eigenvariety for $\mathrm{GL}_2/K$, proving an étaleness result for the weight map at non-critical classical points and a smoothness result at base-change classical points. We give three main applications of this; let $f$ be a $p$-stabilised newform of weight $k \geq 2$ without CM by $K$. Suppose $f$ has finite slope at $p$ and its base-change $f_{/K}$ to $K$ is $p$-regular. Then: (1) We construct a two-variable $p$-adic $L$-function attached to $f_{/K}$ under assumptions on $f$ that conjecturally always hold, in particular…

Multidimensional continued fractions (MCFs) were introduced by Jacobi and Perron in order to obtain periodic representations for algebraic irrationals, as it is for continued fractions and quadratic irrationals. Since continued fractions have been also studied in the field of $p$--adic numbers $\mathbb Q_p$, also MCFs have been recently introduced in $\mathbb Q_p$ together to a $p$--adic Jacobi--Perron algorithm. In this paper, we address th study of two main features of this algorithm, i.e., finiteness and periodicity. In particular, regarding the finiteness of the $p$--adic Jacobi--Perron al…
We study the radius of convergence of a differential equation on a smooth Berkovich curve over a non-archimedean complete valued field of characteristic 0. Several properties of this function are known: F. Baldassarri proved that it is continuous and the authors showed that it factorizes by the retraction through a locally finite graph. Here, assuming that the curve has no boundary or that the differential equation is overconvergent, we provide a shorter proof of both results by using potential theory on Berkovich curves.
In this paper we prove a finiteness result concerning the Chow group of zero-cycles for varieties over $p$-adic local fields. In this final version, there are several corrections concerning mathematical symbols and reference to related known results.
We investigate certain finiteness questions that arise naturally when studying approximations modulo prime powers of p-adic Galois representations coming from modular forms. We link these finiteness statements with a question by K. Buzzard concerning p-adic coefficient fields of Hecke eigenforms. Specifically, we conjecture that for fixed N, m, and prime p with p not dividing N, there is only a finite number of reductions modulo p^m of normalized eigenforms on Γ_1(N). We consider various variants of our basic finiteness conjecture, prove a weak version of it, and give some numerical evidence.
We study the variation of the convergence Newton polygon of a differential equation along a smooth Berkovich curve over a non-archimedean complete valued field of characteristic 0. Relying on work of the second author who investigated its properties on affinoid domains of the affine line, we prove that its slopes give rise to continuous functions that factorize by the retraction through a locally finite subgraph of the curve.
In the paper we develop the $p$-adic theory of discrete automata. Every automaton $\mathfrak A$ (transducer) whose input/output alphabets consist of $p$ symbols can be associated to a continuous (in fact, 1-Lipschitz) map from $p$-adic integers to $p$ integers, the automaton function $f_\mathfrak A$. The $p$-adic theory (in particular, the $p$-adic ergodic theory) turned out to be very efficient in a study of properties of automata expressed via properties of automata functions. In the paper we prove a criterion for finiteness of the number of states of automaton in terms of van der Put series…
A main theme of the paper is a conjecture of Bloch-Kato on the image of $p$-adic regulator maps for a proper smooth variety $X$ over an algebraic number field $k$. The conjecture for a regulator map of particular degree and weight is related to finiteness of two arithmetic objects: One is the $p$-primary torsion part of the Chow group in codimension 2 of $X$. Another is an unramified cohomology group of $X$. As an application, for a regular model ${\mathscr X}$ of $X$ over the integer ring of $k$, we show an injectivity result on torsion of a cycle class map from the Chow group in codimension …
Let $A$ be an abelian variety over a $p$-adic field $K$ and $L$ an algebraic infinite extension over $K$. We consider the finiteness of the torsion part of the group of rational points $A(L)$ under some assumptions. In 1975, Hideo Imai proved that such a group is finite if $A$ has good reduction and $L$ is the cyclotomic $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extension of $K$. In this talk, first we show a generalization of Imai's result in the case where $A$ has ordinary good reduction. Next we give some finiteness results when $A$ is an elliptic curve and $L$ is the field generated by the $p$-power torsion of an el…
We prove two finiteness results for reductions of Hecke orbits of abelian varieties over local fields: one in the case of supersingular reduction and one in the case of reductive monodromy. As an application, we show that only finitely many abelian varieties on a fixed isogeny leaf admit CM lifts, which in particular implies that in each fixed dimension $g$ only finitely many supersingular abelian varieties admit CM lifts. Combining this with the Kuga-Satake construction, we also show that only finitely many supersingular $K3$-surfaces admit CM lifts. Our tools include $p$-adic Hodge theory an…
We provide an effective version of Katz' criterion for finiteness of the monodromy group of a lisse, pure of weight zero, $\ell$-adic sheaf on a normal variety over a finite field, depending on the numerical complexity of the sheaf
We develop some of the foundations of affinoid pre-adic spaces without Noetherian or finiteness hypotheses. We give some explicit examples of non-adic affinoid pre-adic spaces (including a locally perfectoid one). On the positive side, we also show that if every affinoid subspace of an affinoid pre-adic space is uniform, then the structure presheaf is a sheaf; note in particular that we assume no finiteness hypotheses on our rings here. One can use our result to give a new proof that the spectrum of a perfectoid algebra is an adic space.

We construct motivic cohomology classes attached to Rankin--Selberg convolutions of modular forms of weights $\ge 2$, show that these vary analytically in p-adic families, and relate their image under the p-adic regulator map to values of L-functions. As consequences, we prove new cases of Perrin-Riou's conjecture on motivic L-values; we prove finiteness results for Tate--Shafarevich groups for twists of elliptic curves by dihedral Artin characters; and we prove one inclusion in the Iwasawa main conjecture for a single modular form over an imaginary quadratic field.
Let f be a Bianchi modular form, that is, an automorphic form for GL(2) over an imaginary quadratic field F. In this paper, we prove an exceptional zero conjecture in the case where f is new at a prime above p. More precisely, for each prime $\mathfrak{p}$ of F above p we prove the existence of an L-invariant $\mathcal{L}_{\mathfrak{p}}$, depending only on $\mathfrak{p}$ and f, such that when the p-adic L-function of f has an exceptional zero at $\mathfrak{p}$, its derivative can be related to the classical L-value multiplied by $\mathcal{L}_{\mathfrak{p}}$. The proof uses cohomological method…
We construct the $Λ$-adic de Rham analogue of Hida's ordinary $Λ$-adic étale cohomology and of Ohta's $Λ$-adic Hodge cohomology, and by exploiting the geometry of integral models of modular curves over the cyclotomic extension of $\mathbf{Q}_p$, we give a purely geometric proof of the expected finiteness, control, and $Λ$-adic duality theorems. Following Ohta, we then prove that our $Λ$-adic module of differentials is canonically isomorphic to the space of ordinary $Λ$-adic cuspforms. In the sequel to this paper, we construct the crystalline counterpart to Hida's ordinary $Λ$-adic étale cohomo…
A formalism of arithmetic partial differential equations (PDEs) is being developed in which one considers several arithmetic differentiations at one fixed prime. In this theory solutions can be defined in algebraically closed p-adic fields. As an application we show that for at least two arithmetic directions every elliptic curve possesses a non-zero arithmetic PDE Manin map of order 1; such maps do not exist in the arithmetic ODE case. Similarly we construct and study "genuinely PDE" differential modular forms. As further applications we derive a Theorem of the Kernel and a Reciprocity Theore…
Let $f_{\mathrm{new}}$ be a classical newform of weight $\geq 2$ and prime to $p$ level. We study the arithmetic of $f_{\mathrm{new}}$ and its unique $p$-stabilisation $f$ when $f_{\mathrm{new}}$ is $p$-irregular, that is, when its Hecke polynomial at $p$ admits a single repeated root. In particular, we study $p$-adic weight families through $f$ and its base-change to an imaginary quadratic field $F$ where $p$ splits, and prove that the respective eigencurves are both Gorenstein at $f$. We use this to construct a two-variable $p$-adic $L$-function over a Coleman family through $f$, and a three…
Let f be a Bianchi modular form, that is, an automorphic form for GL(2) over an imaginary quadratic field F, and let P be a prime of F at which f is new. Let K be a quadratic extension of F, and L(f/K,s) the L-function of the base-change of f to K. Under certain hypotheses on f and K, the functional equation of L(f/K,s) ensures that it vanishes at the central point. The Bloch--Kato conjecture predicts that this should force the existence of non-trivial classes in an appropriate global Selmer group attached to f and K. In this paper, we use the theory of double integrals developed by Barrera Sa…
We prove a finiteness result for the p-adic cohomology of the Lubin-Tate tower. For any n>=1 and p-adic field F, this provides a canonical functor from admissible p-adic representations of GL_n(F) towards admissible p-adic representations of Gal_F x D^*, where Gal_F is the absolute Galois group of F, and D/F is the central division algebra of invariant 1/n. Moreover, we verify a local-global-compatibility statement for this correspondence, and compatibility with the patching construction of Caraiani-Emerton-Gee-Geraghty-Paskunas-Shin.
We construct Λ-adic de Rham and crystalline analogues of Hida's ordinary Λ-adic etale cohomology, and by exploiting the geometry of integral models of modular curves over the cyclotomic extension of \Q_p, we prove appropriate finiteness and control theorems in each case. We then employ integral p-adic Hodge theory to prove Λ-adic comparison isomorphisms between our cohomologies and Hida's etale cohomology. As applications of our work, we provide a "cohomological" construction of the family of (ϕ,Γ)-modules attached to Hida's ordinary Λ-adic etale cohomology by Dee, and we give a new and purely…
In earlier work, the first named author generalized the construction of Darmon-style $\mathcal{L}$-invariants to cuspidal automorphic representations of semisimple groups of higher rank, which are cohomological with respect to the trivial coefficient system and Steinberg at a fixed prime. In this paper, assuming that the Archimedean component of the group has discrete series we show that these automorphic $\mathcal{L}$-invariants can be computed in terms of derivatives of Hecke-eigenvalues in $p$-adic families. Our proof is novel even in the case of modular forms, which was established by Bert…
We construct an Euler system in the cohomology of the tensor product of the Galois representations attached to two modular forms, using elements in the higher Chow groups of products of modular curves. We use this Euler system to prove a finiteness theorem for the strict Selmer group of the Galois representation when the associated p-adic Rankin--Selberg L-function is non-vanishing at s = 1.
The Shafarevich conjecture for K3 surfaces asserts the finiteness of isomorphism classes of K3 surfaces over a fixed number field admitting good reduction away from a fixed finite set of finite places. André proved this conjecture for polarized K3 surfaces of fixed degree, and recently She proved it for polarized K3 surfaces of unspecified degree. In this paper, we prove a certain generalization of their results, which is stated by the unramifiedness of l-adic étale cohomology groups for K3 surfaces over finitely generated fields of characteristic 0. As a corollary, we get the original Shafare…
We develop methods to study $2$-dimensional $2$-adic Galois representations $ρ$ of the absolute Galois group of a number field $K$, unramified outside a known finite set of primes $S$ of $K$, which are presented as Black Box representations, where we only have access to the characteristic polynomials of Frobenius automorphisms at a finite set of primes. Using suitable finite test sets of primes, depending only on $K$ and $S$, we show how to determine the determinant $\detρ$, whether or not $ρ$ is residually reducible, and further information about the size of the isogeny graph of $ρ$ whose ver…
