We determine the partitions $λ$ for which the corresponding induced module (or Schur module in the language of Buchsbaum et. al., [1]) $\nabla(λ)$ is injective in the category of polynomial modules for a general linear group over an infinite field, equivalently which Weyl modules are projective polynomial modules. Since the problem is essentially no more difficult in the quantised case we address it at this level of generality. Expressing our results in terms of the representation theory of Hecke algebras at the parameter $q$ we determine the partitions $λ$ for which the corresponding Specht module is a Young module, when $1+q\neq 0$. In the classical case this problem was addressed by D. Hemmer, [12]. The nature of the set of partitions appearing in our solution gives a new formulation of Carter's condition on regular partitions. On the other hand, we note, in Remark 2.22, that the result on irreducible Weyl modules for the quantised Schur algebra $S_q(n,n)$, [17], Theorem 5.39, given in terms of Carter partitions, may be also used to obtain the main result presented here.
The injective polynomial modules for a general linear group $G$ of degree $n$ are labelled by the partitions with at most $n$ parts. Working over an algebraically closed field of characteristic $p$, we consider the question of which partitions correspond to polynomially injective modules that are also injective as modules for the restricted enveloping algebra of the Lie algebra of $G$. The question is related to the "index of divisibility" of a polynomial module in general, and an explicit answer is given for $n=2$.
We study the homotopy category $ K(\Inj A)$ of all injective modules over a finite dimensional algebra $A$ with discrete derived category. We give a classification of the indecomposable objects of $ K(\Inj A)$ for any radical square zero self-injective algebra $A$. In particular, every indecomposable object is endofinite.
In this paper, we study a relationship between tilting modules with finite projective dimension and dominant dimension with respect to injective modules as a generalization of results of Crawley-Boevey-Sauter, Nguyen-Reiten-Todorov-Zhu and Pressland-Sauter. Moreover, we give characterizations of almost $n$-Auslander-Gorenstein algebras and almost $n$-Auslander algebras by the existence of tilting modules. As an application, we describe a sufficient condition for almost $1$-Auslander algebras to be strongly quasi-hereditary by comparing such tilting modules and characteristic tilting modules.
Let $Λ$ be an artin algebra and let $\mathcal{P}^{<\infty}_Λ$ the category of finitely generated right $Λ$-modules of finite projective dimension. We show that $\mathcal{P}^{<\infty}_Λ$ is contravariantly finite in $\rm mod\,Λ$ if and only if the direct sum $E$ of the indecomposable Ext-injective modules in $\mathcal{P}^{<\infty}_Λ$ form a tilting module in $\rm mod\,Λ$. Moreover, we show that in this case $E$ coincides with the direct sum of the minimal right $\mathcal{P}^{<\infty}_Λ$-approximations of the indecomposable $Λ$-injective modules and that the projective dimension of $E$ equal to …
We describe Serre functors for (generalisations of) the category O associated with a semi-simple complex Lie algebra. In our approach, projective-injective modules play an important role. They control the Serre functor in the case of a quasi-hereditary algebra having a double centraliser property with respect to a symmetric algebra. As an application of the double centraliser property and our description of Serre functors, we prove three conjectures of Khovanov about the projective-injective modules in the parabolic category O for sl_n.
The rigidity degree of a generator-cogenerator determines the dominant dimension of its endomorphism algebra, and is closely related to a recently introduced homological dimension -- rigidity dimension. In this paper, we give explicit formulae for the rigidity degrees of all indecomposable modules over representation-finite self-injective algebras by developing combinatorial methods from the Euclidean algorithm. As an application, the rigidity dimensions of some algebras of types $A$ and $E$ are given.
We show that for any singular dominant integral weight $λ$ of a complex semisimple Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$, the endomorphism algebra $B$ of any projective-injective module of the parabolic BGG category $\mathcal{O}_λ^{\mathfrak{p}}$ is a symmetric algebra (as conjectured by Khovanov) extending the results of Mazorchuk and Stroppel for the regular dominant integral weight. Moreover, the endomorphism algebra $B$ is equipped with a homogeneous (non-degenerate) symmetrizing form. In the appendix, there is a short proof due to K. Coulembier and V. Mazorchuk showing that the endomorphism algebra …
Let $A$ be a finite-dimensional self-injective algebra over an algebraically closed field, $\mathcal{C}$ a stably quasi-serial component (i.e. its stable part is a tube) of rank $n$ of the Auslander-Reiten quiver of $A$, and $\mathcal{S}$ be a simple-minded system of the stable module category $\stmod{A}$. We show that the intersection $\mathcal{S}\cap\mathcal{C}$ is of size strictly less than $n$, and consists only of modules with quasi-length strictly less than $n$. In particular, all modules in the homogeneous tubes of the Auslander-Reiten quiver of $A$ cannot be in any simple-minded system…
Let A be a finite-dimensional algebra. If A is self-injective, then all modules are reflexive. Marczinzik recently has asked whether A has to be self-injective in case all the simple modules are reflexive. Here, we exhibit an 8-dimensional algebra which is not self-injective, but such that all simple modules are reflexive (actually, for this example, the simple modules are the only non-projective indecomposable modules which are reflexive). In addition, we present some properties of simple reflexive modules in general. Marczinzik had motivated his question by providing large classes of algebra…
In this paper, we first show that for an acyclic gentle algebra A, the irreducible components of any moduli space of A-modules are products of projective spaces. Next, we show that the nice geometry of the moduli spaces of modules of an algebra does not imply the tameness of the representation type of the algebra in question. Finally, we place these results in the general context of moduli spaces of modules of Schur-tame algebras. More specifically, we show that for an arbitrary Schur-tame algebra A and theta-stable irreducible component C of a module variety of A-modules, the moduli space of …
We consider the representation dimension, for fixed $n\geq2$, of ordinary and quantised Schur algebras $S(n,r)$ over a field $k$. For $k$ of positive characteristic $p$ we give a lower bound valid for all $p$. We also give an upper bound in the quantum case, when $k$ has characteristic $0$.
The Lie algebra of vector fields on $R^m$ acts naturally on the spaces of differential operators between tensor field modules. Its projective subalgebra is isomorphic to $sl_{m+1}$, and its affine subalgebra is a maximal parabolic subalgebra of the projective subalgebra with Levi factor $gl_m$. We prove two results. First, we realize all injective objects of the parabolic category O$^{gl_m}(sl_{m+1})$ of $gl_m$-finite $sl_{m+1}$-modules as submodules of differential operator modules. Second, we study projective quantizations of differential operator modules, i.e., $sl_{m+1}$-invariant splittin…
Motivated by the relation between Schur algebra and the group algebra of a symmetric group, along with other similar examples in algebraic Lie theory, Min Fang and Steffen Koenig addressed some behaviour of the endomorphism algebra of a generator over a symmetric algebra, which they called gendo-symmetric algebra. Continuing this line of works, we classify in this article the representation-finite gendo-symmetric algebras that have at most one isomorphism class of indecomposable non-injective projective module. We also determine their almost ν-stable derived equivalence classes in the sense of…
Injective, pure-injective and fp-injective modules are well known to provide for approximations in the category Mod-R for an arbitrary ring R. We prove that this fails for many other generalizations of injectivity: the $C_1$, $C_2$, $C_3$, quasi-continuous, continuous, and quasi-injective modules. We show that, except for the class of all $C_1$-modules, each of the latter classes provides for approximations only when it coincides with the injectives (for quasi-injective modules, this forces R to be a right noetherian V-ring, in the other cases, R even has to be semisimple artinian). The class …
Let $W$ be a finite Weyl group and $\sg$ be a non-trivial graph automorphism of $W$. We show a remarkable relation between the $\sg$-twisted involution module for $W$ and the Frobenius--Schur indicators of the unipotent characters of a corresponding twisted finite group of Lie type. This extends earlier results of Lusztig-Vogan for the untwisted case and then allows us to state a general result valid for any finite group of Lie type. Inspired by recent work of Marberg, we also formally define Frobenius--Schur indicators for "unipotent characters" of twisted dihedral groups.
We prove that indecomposable $Σ$-pure-injective modules for a string algebra are string or band modules. The key step in our proof is a splitting result for infinite-dimensional linear relations.
Every cluster-tilted algebra $B$ is the relation extension $C\ltimes \text{Ext}^2_C(DC,C)$ of a tilted algebra $C$. A $B$-module is called induced if it is of the form $M\otimes_C B$ for some $C$-module $M$. We study the relation between the injective presentations of a $C$-module and the injective presentations of the induced $B$-module. Our main result is an explicit construction of the modules and morphisms in an injective presentation of any induced $B$-module. In the case where the $C$-module, and hence the $B$-module, is projective, our construction yields an injective resolution. In par…
The extended Schur functions form a basis of quasisymmetric functions that contains the Schur functions. We provide a representation-theoretic interpretation of this basis by constructing $0$-Hecke modules whose quasisymmetric characteristics are the extended Schur functions. We further prove these modules are indecomposable.
Flagged Schur modules generalize the irreducible representations of the general linear group under the action of the Borel subalgebra. Their characters include many important generalizations of Schur polynomials, such as Demazure characters, flagged skew Schur polynomials, and Schubert polynomials. In this paper, we prove the characters of flagged Schur modules can be computed using a simple combinatorial algorithm due to Kohnert if and only if the indexing diagram is northwest. This gives a new proof that characters of flagged Schur modules are nonnegative sums of Demazure characters and give…
The purpose of this paper is to study finiteness conditions on injective hulls of simple modules over Noetherian Down-Up algebras. We will show that the Noetherian Down-Up algebras A(α,β,γ) which are fully bounded are precisely those which are module-finite over a central subalgebra. We show that injective hulls of simple A(α,β,γ)-modules are locally Artinian provided the roots of X^2-αX-βare distinct roots of unity or both equal to one.
In this paper, we construct the $q$-Schur modules as left principle ideals of the cyclotomic $q$-Schur algebras, and prove that they are isomorphic to those cell modules defined in \cite{8} and \cite{15} at any level $r$. Then we prove that these $q$-Schur modules are free modules and construct their bases. This result gives us new versions of several results about the standard basis and the branching theorem. With the help of such realizations and the new bases, we re-prove the Branch rule of Weyl modules which was first discovered and proved by Wada in \cite{23}.
We construct modules of the $0$-Hecke algebra whose images under the quasisymmetric characteristic map are the Young row-strict quasisymmetric Schur functions. This provides a representation-theoretic interpretation of this basis of quasisymmetric functions, answering a question of Mason and Niese (2015). Additionally, we classify when these modules are indecomposable.
We investigate the endotrivial modules for the Schur covers of the symmetric and alternating groups and determine the structure of their group of endotrivial modules in all characteristics. We provide a full description of this group by generators and relations in all cases.
Let G be GL_N or SL_N as reductive linear algebraic group over a field k of positive characteristic p. We prove several results that were previously established only when N < 6 or p > 2^N. Let G act rationally on a finitely generated commutative k-algebra A. Assume that A as a G-module has a good filtration or a Schur filtration. Let M be a noetherian A-module with compatible G action. Then M has finite good/Schur filtration dimension, so that there are at most finitely many nonzero H^i(G,M). Moreover these H^i(G,M) are noetherian modules over the ring of invariants A^G. Our main tool is a res…
In this paper we generalize a shift theorem, which plays a key role in studying representations of FI$^m$, the product category of the category of finite sets and injections, and classify finitely generated injective FI$^m$-modules over a field of characteristic 0.
Assume that $k$ is an algebraically closed field and $A$ is a finite-dimensional wild $k$-algebra. Recently, L. Gregory and M. Prest proved that in this case the width of the lattice of all pointed $A$-modules is undefined and hence there exists a super-decomposable pure-injective $A$-module, if the base field $k$ is countable. Here we give a proof of a stronger result. Namely, we show that there exists a special family of pointed $A$-modules, called an independent pair of dense chains of pointed modules. This also yields that the width of the lattice of all pointed $A$-modules is undefined.
Recently Tewari and van Willigenburg constructed modules of the 0-Hecke algebra that are mapped to the quasisymmetric Schur functions by the quasisymmetric characteristic and decomposed them into a direct sum of certain submodules. We show that these submodules are indecomposable by determining their endomorphism rings.
Schur modules give the irreducible polynomial representations of the general linear group $\mathrm{GL}_t$. Viewing the symmetric group $\mathfrak{S}_t$ as a subgroup of $\mathrm{GL}_t$, we may restrict Schur modules to $\mathfrak{S}_t$ and decompose the result into a direct sum of Specht modules, the irreducible representations of $\mathfrak{S}_t$. We give an equivariant Möbius inversion formula that we use to invert this expansion in the representation ring for $\mathfrak{S}_t$ for $t$ large. In addition to explicit formulas in terms of plethysms, we show the coefficients that appear alternat…
Let $R$ be a left noetherian ring, $S$ a right noetherian ring and $_RU$ a generalized tilting module with $S={\rm End}(_RU)$. The injective dimensions of $_RU$ and $U_S$ are identical provided both of them are finite. Under the assumption that the injective dimensions of $_RU$ and $U_S$ are finite, we describe when the subcategory $\{{\rm Ext}_S^n(N, U)|N$ is a finitely generated right $S$-module$\}$ is closed under submodules. As a consequence, we obtain a negative answer to a question posed by Auslander in 1969. Finally, some partial answers to Wakamatsu Tilting Conjecture are given.
Let K 0 (Fp GLn(Fp)-proj) denote the Grothendieck group of finitely generated pro-jective Fp GLn(Fp)-modules. We show that the algebra C $\otimes$ n$\ge$0 K 0 (Fp GLn(Fp)-proj) with multiplication given by induction functors, is a polynomial algebra. We explicit generators and their relation with Deligne-Lusztig characters.
In this paper we consider the locally self-injective property of the product FI$^m$ of the category FI of finite sets and injections. Explicitly, we prove that the external tensor product commutes with the coinduction functor, and hence preserves injective modules. As corollaries, every projective FI$^m$-modules over a field of characteristic 0 is injective, and the Serre quotient of the category of finitely generated FI$^m$-modules by the category of finitely generated torsion FI$^m$-modules is equivalent to the category of finite dimensional FI$^m$-modules.
We compute explicitly the submodule structure of the Young modules for symmetric groups $S_n$ over fields of characteristic 2, when $n \le 7$. We use this information to compute the submodule structure of indecomposable projectives for the corresponding Schur algebras when $n \le 5$, and we give give partial information when n=6,7, including the Gabriel quiver and the structure of the Weyl modules. We resolve all Morita equivalences between blocks of these algebras.
A pair $(A, P)$ is called a cover of $\operatorname{End}_A(P)^{op}$ if the Schur functor $\operatorname{Hom}_A(P, -)$ is fully faithful on the full subcategory of projective $A$-modules, for a given projective $A$-module $P$. By definition, Morita algebras are the covers of self-injective algebras and then $P$ is a faithful projective-injective module. Conversely, we show that $A$ is a Morita algebra and $\operatorname{End}_A(P)^{op}$ is self-injective whenever $(A, P)$ is a cover of $\operatorname{End}_A(P)^{op}$ for a faithful projective-injective module $P$.
We study on Weyl modules of cyclotomic $q$-Schur algebras. In particular, we give the character formula of the Weyl modules by using the Kostka numbers and some numbers which are computed by a generalization of Littlewood-Richardson rule. We also study corresponding symmetric functions. Finally, we give some simple applications to modular representations of cyclotomic $q$-Schur algebras.
We study imaginary representations of the Khovanov-Lauda-Rouquier algebras of affine Lie type. Irreducible modules for such algebras arise as simple heads of standard modules. In order to define standard modules one needs to have a cuspidal system for a fixed convex preorder. A cuspidal system consists of irreducible cuspidal modules---one for each real positive root for the corresponding affine root system ${\tt X}_l^{(1)}$, as well as irreducible imaginary modules---one for each $l$-multipartition. We study imaginary modules by means of `imaginary Schur-Weyl duality'. We introduce an imagina…
We consider the smallest triangulated subcategory of the unbounded derived module category of a ring that contains the injective modules and is closed under set indexed coproducts. If this subcategory is the entire derived category, then we say that injectives generate for the ring. In particular, we ask whether, if injectives generate for a collection of rings, do injectives generate for related ring constructions and vice versa. We provide sufficient conditions for this statement to hold for various constructions including recollements, ring extensions and module category equivalences.
When the parameter $q\in\mathbb C^*$ is not a root of unity, simple modules of affine $q$-Schur algebras have been classified in terms of Frenkel--Mukhin's dominant Drinfeld polynomials (\cite[4.6.8]{DDF}). We compute these Drinfeld polynomials associated with the simple modules of an affine $q$-Schur algebra which come from the simple modules of the corresponding $q$-Schur algebra via the evaluation maps.
We give a result of Auslander-Ringel-Tachikawa type for Gorenstein-projective modules over a complete Gorenstein order. In particular, we prove that a complete Gorenstein order is of finite Cohen-Macaulay representation type if and only if every indecomposable pure-injective object in the stable category of Gorenstein-projective modules is compact.
The proof of Theorem 5.12 in [C.M. Drupieski, On injective modules and support varieties for the small quantum group, Int. Math. Res. Not. 2011 (2011), 2263-2294] does not make sense as written because the algebra $u_ζ(\mathfrak{b}_α^+)$ need not be a Hopf subalgebra of $u_ζ(\mathfrak{b}^+)$ unless $α$ is a simple root. This note describes how the proof should be modified to work around this fact.
In this paper we study injective modules over universal enveloping algebras of finite-dimensional Lie algebras over fields of arbitrary characteristic. Most of our results are dealing with fields of prime characteristic but we also elaborate on some of their analogues for solvable Lie algebras over fields of characteristic zero. It turns out that analogous results in both cases are often quite similar and resemble those familiar from commutative ring theory.
This paper investigates the tilting modules of the cyclotomic q-Schur algebras, the Young modules of the Ariki-Koike algebras, and the interconnections between them. The main tools used to understand the tilting modules are contragredient duality, and the Specht filtrations and dual Specht filtrations of certain permutation modules. Surprisingly, Weyl filtrations -- which are in general more powerful than Specht filtrations -- play only a secondary role.
We study rings which have Noetherian cohomology under the action of a ring of cohomology operators. The main result is a criterion for a complex of modules over such a ring to have finite injective dimension. This criterion generalizes, by removing finiteness conditions, and unifies several previous results. In particular we show that for a module over a ring with Noetherian cohomology, if all higher self-extensions of the module vanish then it must have finite injective dimension. Examples of rings with Noetherian cohomology include commutative complete intersection rings and finite dimension…
We study the structure of the $0$-Schur algebra $S_0(n, r)$ following the geometric construction of $S_0(n, r)$ by Jensen and Su \cite{JS}. The main results are the construction and classification of indecomposable projective modules. In addition, we construct bases of these modules and their homomorphism spaces. We also give a filtration of projective modules, which leads to a decomposition of $S_0(n,r)$ into indecomposable left modules.
We prove that for a left and right Noetherian ring $R$, $_RR$ satisfies the Auslander condition if and only if so does every flat left $R$-module, if and only if the injective dimension of the $i$th term in a minimal flat resolution of any injective left $R$-module is at most $i-1$ for any $i \geq 1$, if and only if the flat (resp. injective) dimension of the $i$th term in a minimal injective coresolution (resp. flat resolution) of any left $R$-module $M$ is at most the flat (resp. injective) dimension of $M$ plus $i-1$ for any $i \geq 1$, if and only if the flat (resp. injective) dimension of…
In this note, inspired by the proof of the Kirillov-Reshetikhin conjecture, we consider tensor products of Kirillov-Reshetikhin modules of a fixed node and various level. We fix a positive integer and attach to each of its partitions such a tensor product. We show that there exists an embedding of the tensor products, with respect to the classical structure, along with the reverse dominance relation on the set of partitions.
We continue the development of the homological theory of quantum general linear groups previously considered by the first author. The development is used to transfer information to the representation theory of quantised Schur algebras. The acyclicity of induction from some rank-one modules for quantised Borel-Schur subalgebras is deduced. This is used to prove the exactness of the complexes recently constructed by Boltje and Maisch, giving resolutions of the co-Specht modules for Hecke algebras.
We establish a link between trace modules and rigidity in modules over Noetherian rings. Using the theory of trace ideals we make partial progress on a question of Dao, and on the Auslander-Reiten conjecture over Artinian Gorenstein rings.
We begin by deriving an action of the 0-Hecke algebra on standard reverse composition tableaux and use it to discover 0-Hecke modules whose quasisymmetric characteristics are the natural refinements of Schur functions known as quasisymmetric Schur functions. Furthermore, we classify combinatorially which of these 0-Hecke modules are indecomposable. From here, we establish that the natural equivalence relation arising from our 0-Hecke action has equivalence classes that are isomorphic to subintervals of the weak Bruhat order on the symmetric group. Focussing on the equivalence classes containin…
Recently, Yekutieli introduced projective dimension and injective dimension of DG-modules by generalizing the characterization of projective dimension and injective dimension of ordinary modules by vanishing of Ext-group. In this paper, we introduce DG-version of projective resolution and injective resolution for DG-modules over a connective DG-algebra which are different from known DG-version of projective and injective resolutions. An important feature of these resolutions is that, roughly speaking, the "length" of these resolutions give projective or injective dimensions. We show that these…
This paper proves a combinatorial rule giving all maximal and minimal partitions $λ$ such that the Schur function $s_λ$ appears in a plethysm of two arbitrary Schur functions. Determining the decomposition of these plethysms has been identified by Stanley as a key open problem in algebraic combinatorics. As corollaries we prove three conjectures of Agaoka on the partitions labelling the lexicographically greatest and least Schur functions appearing in an arbitrary plethysm. We also show that the multiplicity of the Schur function labelled by the lexicographically least constituent may be arbit…
Let $k$ be a commutative $\mathbb{Q}$-algebra. We study families of functors between categories of finitely generated $R$-modules which are defined for all commutative $k$-algebras $R$ simultaneously and are compatible with base changes. These operations turn out to be Schur functors associated to $k$-linear representations of symmetric groups. This result is closely related to Macdonald's classification of polynomial functors.
