The rigidity degree of a generator-cogenerator determines the dominant dimension of its endomorphism algebra, and is closely related to a recently introduced homological dimension -- rigidity dimension. In this paper, we give explicit formulae for the rigidity degrees of all indecomposable modules over representation-finite self-injective algebras by developing combinatorial methods from the Euclidean algorithm. As an application, the rigidity dimensions of some algebras of types $A$ and $E$ are given.
We study the homotopy category $ K(\Inj A)$ of all injective modules over a finite dimensional algebra $A$ with discrete derived category. We give a classification of the indecomposable objects of $ K(\Inj A)$ for any radical square zero self-injective algebra $A$. In particular, every indecomposable object is endofinite.
We show that there is a reflection type bijection between the indecomposable summands of two multiplicity free tilting modules $X$ and $Y$. This bijection fixes the common indecomposable summands of $X$ and $Y$ and sends indecomposable projective (resp., injective) summands of exactly one module to non-projective (resp., non-injective) summands of the other. Moreover, this bijection interchanges the two possible non-isomorphic complements of an almost complete tilting module.
We give a proof, based on the rigidity of tilting complexes, that the class of self-injective finite-dimensional algebras over an algebraically closed field is closed under derived equivalence.
We give a result of Auslander-Ringel-Tachikawa type for Gorenstein-projective modules over a complete Gorenstein order. In particular, we prove that a complete Gorenstein order is of finite Cohen-Macaulay representation type if and only if every indecomposable pure-injective object in the stable category of Gorenstein-projective modules is compact.
Let $Λ$ be an artin algebra and let $\mathcal{P}^{<\infty}_Λ$ the category of finitely generated right $Λ$-modules of finite projective dimension. We show that $\mathcal{P}^{<\infty}_Λ$ is contravariantly finite in $\rm mod\,Λ$ if and only if the direct sum $E$ of the indecomposable Ext-injective modules in $\mathcal{P}^{<\infty}_Λ$ form a tilting module in $\rm mod\,Λ$. Moreover, we show that in this case $E$ coincides with the direct sum of the minimal right $\mathcal{P}^{<\infty}_Λ$-approximations of the indecomposable $Λ$-injective modules and that the projective dimension of $E$ equal to …
Let $Λ$ be a derived-discrete algebra. We show that the Krull-Gabriel dimension of the homotopy category of projective $Λ$-modules, and therefore the Cantor-Bendixson rank of its Ziegler spectrum, is $2$, thus extending a result of Bobiński and Krause. We also describe all the indecomposable pure-injective complexes and hence the Ziegler spectrum for derived-discrete algebras, extending a result of Z. Han. Using this, we are able to prove that all indecomposable complexes in the homotopy category of projective $Λ$-modules are pure-injective, so obtaining a class of algebras for which every ind…
Motivated by the relation between Schur algebra and the group algebra of a symmetric group, along with other similar examples in algebraic Lie theory, Min Fang and Steffen Koenig addressed some behaviour of the endomorphism algebra of a generator over a symmetric algebra, which they called gendo-symmetric algebra. Continuing this line of works, we classify in this article the representation-finite gendo-symmetric algebras that have at most one isomorphism class of indecomposable non-injective projective module. We also determine their almost ν-stable derived equivalence classes in the sense of…
We classify Morita equivalence classes of indecomposable self-injective cellular algebras which have polynomial growth representation type, assuming that the base field has an odd characteristic. This assumption on the characteristic is for the cellularity to be a Morita invariant property.
We show that an adaptation of Landrock's Lemma for symmetric algebras also holds for cellular algebras and BGG algebras. This is a result relating the radical layers of any two projective modules. The reason it holds in our setting is that there is a duality between injective hulls and projective covers. As a corollary we deduce that BGG reciprocity respects Loewy structure.
We introduce the Calabi-Yau (CY) objects in a Hom-finite Krull-Schmidt triangulated $k$-category, and notice that the structure of the minimal, consequently all the CY objects, can be described. The relation between indecomposable CY objects and Auslander-Reiten triangles is provided. Finally we classify all the CY modules of self-injective Nakayama algebras, determining this way the self-injective Nakayama algebras admitting indecomposable CY modules. In particular, this result recovers the algebras whose stable categories are Calabi-Yau, which have been obtained in [BS].
In \cite{SSZ}, the authors proved that an Artin algebra $A$ with infinite global dimension has an indecomposable module with infinite projective and infinite injective dimension, giving a new characterisation of algebras with finite global dimension. We prove in this article that an Artin algebra $A$ that is not Gorenstein has an indecomposable $A$-module with infinite Gorenstein projective dimension and infinite Gorenstein injective dimension, which gives a new characterisation of algebras with finite Gorenstein dimension. We show that this gives a proper generalisation of the result in \cite…
For an acyclic quiver $Q$ and a finite-dimensional algebra $A$, we give a unified form of the indecomposable injective objects in the monomorphism category ${\rm Mon}(Q,A)$ and prove that ${\rm Mon}(Q, A)$ has enough injective objects. As applications, we show that for a given self-injective algebra $A$, a tilting object in the stable category $\underline{A}$-mod induces a natural tilting object in the stable monomorphism category $\underline{\rm Mon}(Q,A)$. We also realize the singularity category of the algebra $kQ\otimes_k A$ as the stable monomorphism category of the module category of $A$…
We prove that indecomposable $Σ$-pure-injective modules for a string algebra are string or band modules. The key step in our proof is a splitting result for infinite-dimensional linear relations.
Let $k$ be a field and let $Λ$ be an indecomposable finite dimensional $k$-algebra such that there is a stable equivalence of Morita type between $Λ$ and a self-injective split basic Nakayama algebra over $k$. We show that every indecomposable finitely generated $Λ$-module $V$ has a universal deformation ring $R(Λ,V)$ and we describe $R(Λ,V)$ explicitly as a quotient ring of a power series ring over $k$ in finitely many variables. This result applies in particular to Brauer tree algebras, and hence to $p$-modular blocks of finite groups with cyclic defect groups.
Motivated by the study of (m,n)-quasitilted algebras, which are the piecewise hereditary algebras obtained from quasitilted algebras of global dimension two by a sequence of (co)tiltings involving n-1 tilting modules and m-1 cotilting modules, we introduce (m,n)-almost hereditary algebras. These are the algebras with global dimension m+n and such that any indecomposable module has projective dimension at most m, or else injective dimension at most n. We relate these two classes of algebras, among which (m,1)-almost hereditary ones play a special role. For these, we prove that any indecomposabl…
We consider the homotopy category of complexes of projective modules over any gentle algebra. We prove that indecomposable $Σ$-pure-injective objects in s must be shifts of string or band complexes. We begin with a survey of purity in compactly generated triangulated categories, recalling some characterisations of $Σ$-pure-injective objects that mimic classical results from the model theory of modules. We then specify to the aforementioned homotopy category, and describe the compact objects in this case. Our proof uses a recent adaptation of a classification technique known as the functorial f…
We study the degree of irreducible morphisms in any Auslander-Reiten component of a finite dimensional algebra over an algebraically closed field. We give a characterization for an irreducible morphism to have finite left (or right) degree. This is used to prove our main theorem: An algebra is of finite representation type if and only if for every indecomposable projective the inclusion of the radical in the projective has finite right degree, which is equivalent to require that for every indecomposable injective the epimorphism from the injective to its quotient by its socle has finite left d…
We show, in full generality, that Lusztig's $\mathbf{a}$-function describes the projective dimension of both indecomposable tilting modules and indecomposable injective modules in the regular block of the BGG category $\mathcal{O}$, proving a conjecture from the first paper. On the way we show that the images of simple modules under projective functors can be represented in the derived category by linear complexes of tilting modules. These complexes, in turn, can be interpreted as the images of simple modules under projective functors in the Koszul dual of the category $\mathcal{O}$. Finally, …
Let k be an algebraically closed field of characteristic p>0 and let G be a symplectic or general linear group over k. We consider induced modules for G under the assumption that p is bigger than the greatest hook length in the partitions involved. We give explicit constructions of left resolutions of induced modules by tilting modules. Furthermore, we give injective resolutions for induced modules in certain truncated categories. We show that the multiplicities of the indecomposable tilting and injective modules in these resolutions are the coefficients of certain Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials.…
Let A be a finite-dimensional algebra. If A is self-injective, then all modules are reflexive. Marczinzik recently has asked whether A has to be self-injective in case all the simple modules are reflexive. Here, we exhibit an 8-dimensional algebra which is not self-injective, but such that all simple modules are reflexive (actually, for this example, the simple modules are the only non-projective indecomposable modules which are reflexive). In addition, we present some properties of simple reflexive modules in general. Marczinzik had motivated his question by providing large classes of algebra…
Let $Λ$ be an algebra with a indecomposable projective-injective module. Adachi gave a method to construct the Hasse quiver of support $τ$-tilting $Λ$-modules. In this paper, we will show that it can be restricted to $τ$-tilting modules.
We describe the dimensions of low Hochschild cohomology spaces of exceptional periodic representation-infinite algebras of polynomial growth. As an application we obtain that an indecomposable non-standard periodic representation-infinite algebra of polynomial growth is not derived equivalent to a standard self-injective algebra.
We establish a link between trace modules and rigidity in modules over Noetherian rings. Using the theory of trace ideals we make partial progress on a question of Dao, and on the Auslander-Reiten conjecture over Artinian Gorenstein rings.
In this paper, we introduce and study a class of algebras which we call ada algebras. An artin algebra is ada if every indecomposable projective and every indecomposable injective module lies in the union of the left and the right parts of the module category. We describe the Auslander-Reiten components of an ada algebra, showing in particular that its representation theory is entirely contained in that of its left and right supports, which are both tilted algebras. Also, we prove that an ada algebra over an algebraically closed field is simply connected if and only if its first Hochschild coh…
We consider the category $\operatorname{Qcoh}\mathbb{X}$ of quasicoherent sheaves where $\mathbb{X}$ is a weighted noncommutative regular projective curve over a field $k$. This category is a hereditary, locally noetherian Grothendieck category. We classify all indecomposable pure-injective sheaves and all cotilting sheaves of slope $\infty$. In the cases of nonnegative orbifold Euler characteristic this leads to a classification of pure-injective indecomposable sheaves and a description of all large cotilting sheaves in $\operatorname{Qcoh}\mathbb{X}$.
We classify simple weight modules over infinite dimensional Weyl algebras and realize them using the action on certain localizations of the polynomial ring. We describe indecomposable projective and injective weight modules and deduce from this a description of blocks of the category of weight modules by quivers and relations. As a corollary we establish Koszulity for all blocks.
We give a simple combinatorial criterion allowing to recognize whether a string (or, more generally, a special biserial) algebra is a laura algebra or not. We also show that a special biserial algebra is laura if and only if it has a finite number of isomorphism classes of indecomposable modules which have projective dimension and injective dimension greater than or equal to two, solving a conjecture ok Skowronski for special biserial algebras.
Suppose that $Q$ is a connected quiver without oriented cycles and $σ$ is an automorphism of $Q$. Let $k$ be an algebraically closed field whose characteristic does not divide the order of the cyclic group $\langleσ\rangle$. The aim of this paper is to investigate the relationship between indecomposable $kQ$-modules and indecomposable $kQ\#k\langleσ\rangle$-modules. It has been shown by Hubery that any $kQ\#k\langleσ\rangle$-module is an isomorphically invariant $kQ$-module, i.e., ii-module (in this paper, we call it $\langleσ\rangle$-equivalent $kQ$-module), and conversely any $\langleσ\rangl…
We study certain filtrations of indecomposable injective modules over classical Lie superalgebras, applying a general approach for noetherian rings developed by Brown, Jategaonkar, Lenagan, and Warfield. To indicate the consequences of our analysis, suppose that $g$ is a complex classical simple Lie superalgebra and that $E$ is an indecomposable injective $g$-module with nonzero (and so necessarily simple) socle $L$. (Recall that every essential extension of $L$, and in particular every nonsplit extension of $L$ by a simple module, can be formed from $g$-subfactors of $E$.) A direct transposit…
Both the original Temperley-Lieb algebras $\mathsf{TL}_{n}$ and their dilute counterparts $\mathsf{dTL}_{n}$ form families of filtered algebras: $\mathsf{TL}_{n}\subset \mathsf{TL}_{n+1}$ and $\mathsf{dTL}_{n}\subset\mathsf{dTL}_{n+1}$, for all $n\geq 0$. For each such inclusion, the restriction and induction of every finite-dimensional indecomposable module over $\mathsf{TL}_{n}$ (or $\mathsf{dTL}_{n}$) is computed. To accomplish this, a thorough description of each indecomposable is given, including its projective cover and injective hull, some short exact sequences in which it appears, its …
We describe the modules in the Ziegler closure of ray and coray tubes in module categories over finite-dimensional algebras. We improve slightly on Krause's result for stable tubes by showing that the inverse limit along a coray in a ray or coray tube is indecomposable, so in particular, the inverse limit along a coray in a stable tube is indecomposable. In order to do all this, we first describe the finitely presented modules over and the Ziegler spectra of iterated one-point extensions of valuation domains. Finally we give a sufficient condition for the $k$-dual of a $Σ$-pure-injective modul…
Let $Λ$ be an Auslander's 1-Gorenstein Artinian algebra with global dimension two. If $Λ$ admits a trivial maximal 1-orthogonal subcategory of $\modΛ$, then for any indecomposable module $M \in \mod Λ$, we have that the projective dimension of $M$ is equal to one if and only if so is its injective dimension and that $M$ is injective if the projective dimension of $M$ is equal to two. In this case, we further get that $Λ$ is a tilted algebra.
Let $Q$ be a Dynkin quiver and $Π$ the corresponding set of positive roots. For the preprojective algebra $Λ$ associated to $Q$ we produce a rigid $Λ$-module $I_Q$ with $r=|Π|$ pairwise non-isomorphic indecomposable direct summands by pushing the injective modules of the Auslander algebra of $kQ$ to $Λ$. If $N$ is a maximal unipotent subgroup of a complex simply connected simple Lie group of type $|Q|$, then the coordinate ring $C[N]$ is an upper cluster algebra. We show that the elements of the dual semicanonical basis which correspond to the indecomposable direct summands of $I_Q$ coincide w…
For a module-finite algebra over a commutative noetherian ring, we give a complete description of flat cotorsion modules in terms of prime ideals of the algebra, as a generalization of Enochs' result for a commutative noetherian ring. As a consequence, we show that pointwise Matlis duality gives a bijective correspondence between the isoclasses of indecomposable injective left modules and the isoclasses of indecomposable flat cotorsion right modules. This correspondence is an explicit realization of Herzog's homeomorphism induced from elementary duality of Ziegler spectra.
A new homological dimension is introduced to measure the quality of resolutions of `singular' finite dimensional algebras (of infinite global dimension) by `regular' ones (of finite global dimension). Upper bounds are established in terms of extensions and of Hochschild cohomology, and finiteness in general is derived from homological conjectures. Then invariance under stable equivalences is shown to hold, with some exceptions when there are nodes in case of additive equivalences, and without exceptions in case of triangulated equivalences. Stable equivalences of Morita type and derived equiva…
We introduce a new family of algebras, called Serre-formal algebras. They are Iwanaga-Gorenstein algebras for which applying any power of the Serre functor on any indecomposable projective module, the result remains a stalk complex. Typical examples are given by (higher) hereditary algebras and self-injective algebras; it turns out that other interesting algebras such as (higher) canonical algebras are also Serre-formal. Starting from a Serre-formal algebra, we consider a series of algebras - called the replicated algebras - given by certain subquotients of its repetitive algebra. We calculate…
We determine the minimal lower bound $n$, with $n \geq 1$, where the $n$-th power of the radical of the module category of a representation-finite cluster tilted algebra vanishes. We give such a bound in terms of the number of vertices of the underline quiver. Consequently, we get the nilpotency index of the radical of the module category for representation-finite self-injective cluster tilted algebras. We also study the non-zero composition of $m$, $m \ge 2$, irreducible morphisms between indecomposable modules in representation-finite cluster tilted algebras lying in the $(m+1)$-th power of …
Recently, Chen and Koenig in \cite{CheKoe} and Iyama and Solberg in \cite{IyaSol} independently introduced and characterised algebras with dominant dimension coinciding with the Gorenstein dimension and both dimensions being larger than or equal to two. In \cite{IyaSol}, such algebras are named Auslander-Gorenstein algebras. Auslander-Gorenstein algebras generalise the well known class of higher Auslander algebras, where the dominant dimension additionally coincides with the global dimension. In this article we generalise Auslander-Gorenstein algebras further to algebras having the property th…
Let $A$ be a hereditary algebra. We construct a fundamental domain for the cluster category of $A$ inside the category of modules over the duplicated algebra $\bar{A}$ of $A$. We then prove that there exists a bijection between the tilting objects in the cluster category and the tilting $\bar{A}$-modules all of whose non projective-injective indecomposable summands lie in the left part of the module category of $\bar{A}$.
Slicing a module into semisimple ones is useful to study modules. Loewy structures provide a means of doing so. To establish the Loewy structures of projective modules over a finite dimensional symmetric algebra over a field $F$, the Landrock lemma is a primary tool. The lemma and its corollary relate radical layers of projective indecomposable modules to radical layers of the $F$-duals of those modules ("dual symmetry") and to socle layers of those modules ("reciprocity"). We generalize these results to an arbitrary finite dimensional algebra $A$. Our main theorem, which is the same as the La…
Let $Λ$ be a radical square zero Nakayama algebra with $n$ simple modules and let $Γ$ be the Auslander algebra of $Λ$. Then every indecomposable direct summand of a tilting $Γ$-module is either simple or projective. Moreover, if $Λ$ is self-injective, then the number of tilting $Γ$-modules is $2^n$; otherwise, the number of tilting $Γ$-modules is $2^{n-1}$.
Let $U_q$ denote the quantum group associated with a finite dimensional semisimple Lie algebra. Assume that $q$ is a complex root of unity of odd order and that $U_q$ is %the quantum group version obtained via Lusztig's $q$-divided powers construction. We prove that all regular projective (tilting) modules for $U_q$ are rigid, i.e., have identical radical and socle filtrations. Moreover, we obtain the same for a large class of Weyl modules for $U_q$. On the other hand, we give examples of non-rigid indecomposable tilting modules as well as non-rigid Weyl modules. These examples are for type $B…
$τ$-rigid modules are essential in the $τ$-tilting theory introduced by Adachi, Iyama and Reiten. In this paper, we give equivalent conditions for Iwanaga-Gorenstein algebras with self-injective dimension at most one in terms of $τ$-rigid modules. We show that every indecomposable module over iterated tilted algebras of Dynkin type is $τ$-rigid. Finally, we give a $τ$-tilting theorem on homological dimension which is an analog to that of classical tilting modules.
We construct two functors from the submodule category of a self-injective representation-finite algebra $Λ$ to the module category of the stable Auslander algebra of $Λ$. These functors factor through the module category of the Auslander algebra of $Λ$. Moreover they induce equivalences from the quotient categories of the submodule category modulo their respective kernels and said kernels have finitely many indecomposable objects up to isomorphism. Their construction uses a recollement of the module category of the Auslander algebra induced by an idempotent and this recollement determines a ch…
We study endomorphism algebras of 2-term silting complexes in derived categories of hereditary finite dimensional algebras, or more generally of $\mathop{\rm Ext}\nolimits$-finite hereditary abelian categories. Module categories of such endomorphism algebras are known to occur as hearts of certain bounded $t$-structures in such derived categories. We show that the algebras occurring are exactly the algebras of small homological dimension, which are algebras characterized by the property that each indecomposable module either has injective dimension at most one, or it has projective dimension a…
The paper explores the indecomposable submodule structures of quantum divided power algebra $\mathcal{A}_q(n)$ defined in \cite{HU} and its truncated objects $\mathcal{A}_q(n, \bold m)$. An "intertwinedly-lifting" method is established to prove the indecomposability of a module when its socle is non-simple. The Loewy filtrations are described for all homogeneous subspaces $\mathcal{A}^{(s)}_q(n)$ or $\mathcal{A}_q^{(s)}(n, \bold m)$, the Loewy layers and dimensions are determined. The rigidity of these indecomposable modules is proved. An interesting combinatorial identity is derived from our …
Let $A$ be a special biserial algebra over an algebraically closed field. We show that the first Hohchshild cohomology group of $A$ with coefficients in the bimodule $A$ vanishes if and only if $A$ is representation finite and simply connected (in the sense of Bongartz and Gabriel), if and only if the Euler characteristic of $Q$ equals the number of indecomposable non uniserial projective injective $A$-modules (up to isomorphism). Moreover, if this is the case, then all the higher Hochschild cohomology groups of $A$ vanish.
