We give a simple combinatorial criterion allowing to recognize whether a string (or, more generally, a special biserial) algebra is a laura algebra or not. We also show that a special biserial algebra is laura if and only if it has a finite number of isomorphism classes of indecomposable modules which have projective dimension and injective dimension greater than or equal to two, solving a conjecture ok Skowronski for special biserial algebras.
We consider the bound quiver algebras whose ordinary quiver is that of a canonical algebra. We determine which of those algebras are hereditary, tilted, quasitilted, weakly shod or laura algebras.
In this paper, we study the covering theory of laura algebras. We prove that if a connected laura algebra is standard (that is, it is not quasi-tilted of canonical type and its connecting components are standard), then this algebra has nice Galois coverings associated to the coverings of the connecting component. As a consequence, we show that the first Hochschild cohomology group of a standard laura algebra vanishes if and only if it has no proper Galois coverings.
In this paper we determine the derived representation type of quadratic string algebras and we prove that every derived tame quadratic string algebra whose quiver has cycles is derived equivalent to some skewed-gentle algebra.
In this paper we develop combinatorial techniques for the case of string algebras with the aim to give a characterization of string complexes with infinite minimal projective resolution. These complexes will be called \textit{periodic string complexes}. As a consequence of this characterization, we give two important applications. The first one, is a sufficient condition for a string algebra to have infinite global dimension. In the second one, we exhibit a class of indecomposable objects in the derived category for a special case of string algebras. Every construction, concept and consequence…
The category of modules over a string algebra is equipped with a tensor product defined point-wise and arrow-wise in terms of the underlying quiver. In the present article we investigate how this tensor product interacts with the classification of indecomposables. We apply the results obtained to solve the Clebsch-Gordan problem for string algebras. Moreover, we describe the corresponding representation ring and tensor ideals in the module category.
We introduce the concept of a prime band in a string algebra $Λ$ and use it to associate to $Λ$ its finite bridge quiver. Then we introduce a new technique of `recursive systems' for showing that a graph map between finite dimensional string modules lies in its stable radical. Further we study two classes of non-domestic string algebras in terms of some connectedness properties of its bridge quiver. `Meta-$\bigcup$-cyclic' string algebras constitute the first class that is essentially characterized by the statement that each finite string is a substring of a band. Extending this class we have …
We study Lusztig's t-analog of weight multiplicities associated to level one representations of twisted affine Kac-Moody algebras. An explicit closed form expression is obtained for the corresponding t-string function using constant term identities of Macdonald and Cherednik. The closed form involves the generalized exponents of the graded pieces of the twisted affine algebra, considered as modules for the underlying finite dimensional simple Lie algebra. This extends previous work on level 1 t-string functions for the untwisted simply-laced affine Kac-Moody algebras.
We call the \emph{$p$-fundamental string} of a complex simple Lie algebra to the sequence of irreducible representations having highest weights of the form $kω_1+ω_p$ for $k\geq0$, where $ω_j$ denotes the $j$-th fundamental weight of the associated root system. For a classical complex Lie algebra, we establish a closed explicit formula for the weight multiplicities of any representation in any $p$-fundamental string.
Let $\mathbf{k}$ be an algebraically closed field. In this article, inspired by the description of indecomposable objects in the derived category of a gentle algebra obtained by V. Bekkert and H. A. Merklen, we define string complexes for a certain class $\mathscr{C}$ of symmetric special biserial algebras, which are indecomposable perfect complexes in the corresponding derived category. We also prove that if $Λ$ is a $\mathbf{k}$-algebra in the class $\mathscr{C}$ and $P^\bullet$ is a string complex over $Λ$, then $P^\bullet$ lies in the rim of its Auslander-Reiten component.
In this article we give an algorithm for determining the generators and relations for the rings of semi-invariant functions on irreducible components of representation spaces for gentle string algebras. These rings of semi-invariants turn out to be semigroup rings to which we can associate a so-called matching graph. Under this association, generators for the semigroup can be seen by certain walks on this graph, and relations are given by certain configurations in the graph. This allows us to determine degree bounds for the generators and relations of these rings. We furthermore show that thes…
We present discrete models of special biserial (SB) algebras and their string modules, drawing inspiration from cellular automata, and cast new light on patterns among syzygies. We explore applications of our models to open questions in homological algebra regarding certain triangulated subcategories of derived categories, with implications for the finitistic dimension conjectures. More pertinently, our models provide the inner workings for a new, original GAP package called SBStrips, written and implemented by the author. Its source code is freely available online and its documentation is inc…
The Cohen-Macaulay Auslander algebra of any string algebra is explicitly constructed in this paper. Furthermore, we show that a class of special string algebras, which are called to be string algebras with G-condition, are representation-finite if and only if their Cohen-Macaulay Auslander algebras are representation-finite. Finally, the self-injective dimension of gentle algebras is characterized using their Cohen-Macaulay Auslander algebras.
We describe the generic modules in each component of the spaces of representations of certain string algebras. In so doing, we calculate the dimensions of higher self-extension groups for generic modules. This algorithm lends itself for use in determining tilting modules over gentle string algebras.
We give a combinatorial description of a family of indecomposable objects in the bounded derived categories of a new class of algebras: string almost gentle algebras. These indecomposable objects are, up to isomorphism, the string and band complexes introduced by V. Bekkert and H. Merklen. With this description, we give a necessary and sufficient condition for a given string complex to have infinite minimal projective resolution and we extend this condition for the case of string algebras. Using this characterization we establish a sufficient condition for a string almost gentle algebra (or a …
We prove that indecomposable $Σ$-pure-injective modules for a string algebra are string or band modules. The key step in our proof is a splitting result for infinite-dimensional linear relations.
Maximal green sequences are important objects in representation theory, cluster algebras, and string theory. The two fundamental questions about maximal green sequences are whether a given algebra admits such sequences and, if so, does it admit only finitely many. We study maximal green sequences in the case of string algebras and give sufficient conditions on the algebra that ensure an affirmative answer to these questions.
We compute the Euler characteristics of quiver Grassmannians and quiver flag varieties of tree and band modules and prove their positivity. This generalizes some results by G.C. Irelli [arXiv:0910.2592]. As an application we consider the Ringel-Hall algebra $C(A)$ of some string algebras $A$ and compute in combinatorial terms the products of arbitrary functions in $C(A)$.
We prove that among the finite dimensional algebras of finite representation type those that are string algebras are precisely the ones that have the property that the middle term of an arbitrary extension of indecomposable modules has at most two direct factors. On the other hand, we show that non-domestic string algebras are very far from having that property.
In this paper, we study representations of certain string algebras, which are referred to as of affine type $\widetilde{C}$. We introduce minimal string modules and apply them to explicitly describe components of the Auslander-Reiten quivers of the string algebras and $τ$-locally free modules defined by Geiss-Lerclerc-Schröer. As an application, we prove Geiss-Leclerc-Schröer's conjecture on the correspondence between positive roots of type $\widetilde{C}$ and $τ$-locally free modules of the corresponding string algebras.
We determine the regular irreducible components of the variety mod(A,d), where A=kQ/I is a string algebra and I is generated by a set of paths of length two. Our case is among the first examples of descriptions of irreducible components, aside from hereditary, tubular and Gelfand-Ponomarev algebras.
The cyclotomic Birman-Murakami-Wenzl (or BMW) algebras B_n^k, introduced by R. Haring-Oldenburg, are extensions of the cyclotomic Hecke algebras of Ariki-Koike, in the same way as the BMW algebras are extensions of the Hecke algebras of type A. In this paper we focus on the case n=2, producing a basis of B_2^k and constructing its left regular representation.
We show that the order type of the simplest version of a hammock for string algebras lies in the class of finite description linear orders--the smallest class of linear orders containing $\mathbf 0$, $\mathbf 1$, and that is closed under isomorphisms, finite order sum, anti-lexicographic product with $ω$ and $ω^*$, and shuffle of finite subsets--using condensation (localization) of linear orders as a tool. We also introduce two finite subsets of the set of bands and use them to describe the location of left $\mathbb N$-strings in the completion of hammocks.
We show that string algebras are `homologically tame' in the following sense: First, the syzygies of arbitrary representations of a finite dimensional string algebra $Λ$ are direct sums of cyclic representations, and the left finitistic dimensions, both little and big, of $Λ$ can be computed from a finite set of cyclic left ideals contained in the Jacobson radical. Second, our main result shows that the functorial finiteness status of the full subcategory $\Cal P$ consisting of the finitely generated left $Λ$-modules of finite projective dimension is completely determined by a finite number of…
We calculate, confirming a conjecture of Schröer, the Krull-Gabriel dimension of the category of modules over any domestic string algebra, as well as the Cantor-Bendixson rank of each point of its Ziegler spectrum. We also determine the topology on this space.
A notion of meromorphic open-string vertex algebra is introduced. A meromorphic open-string vertex algebra is an open-string vertex algebra in the sense of Kong and the author satisfying additional rationality (or meromorphicity) conditions for vertex operators. The vertex operator map for a meromorphic open-string vertex algebra satisfies rationality and associativity but in general does not satisfy the Jacobi identity, commutativity, the commutator formula, the skew-symmetry or even the associator formula. Given a vector space \mathfrak{h}, we construct a meromorphic open-string vertex algeb…
We discuss a set of heterotic and type II string theory compactifications to 1+1 dimensions that are characterized by factorized internal worldsheet CFTs of the form $V_1\otimes \bar V_2$, where $V_1, V_2$ are self-dual (super) vertex operator algebras. In the cases with spacetime supersymmetry, we show that the BPS states form a module for a Borcherds-Kac-Moody (BKM) (super)algebra, and we prove that for each model the BKM (super)algebra is a symmetry of genus zero BPS string amplitudes. We compute the supersymmetric indices of these models using both Hamiltonian and path integral formalisms.…
We consider quotients of the group algebra of the $3$-string braid group $B_3$ by $p$-th order generic polynomial relations on the elementary braids. In cases $p=2,3,4,5$ these quotient algebras are finite dimensional. We give semisimplicity criteria for these algebras and present explicit formulas for all their irreducible representations.
We investigate the rings of semi-invariants for tame string algebras A(n) of non-polynomial growth. We are interested in dimension vectors of band modules. We use geometric technique related to the description of coordinate rings on varieties of complexes. The fascinating combinatorics emerges, showing that our rings of invariants are the rings of some toric varieties. We show that for $n\le 6$ the rings of semi-invariants are complete intersections but we show an example for $n=7$ that this is not the case in general.
This paper generalizes Huang's cohomology theory of grading-restricted vertex algebras to meromorphic open-string vertex algebras (MOSVAs hereafter), which are noncommutative generalizations of grading-restricted vertex algebras introduced by Huang. The vertex operators for these algebras satisfy associativity but do not necessarily satisfy the commutativity. Moreover, the MOSVA and its bimodules considered in this paper do not necessarily have finite-dimensional homogeneous subspaces, though we do require that they have lower-bounded gradings. The construction and results in this paper will b…
