We consider time delay for the Dirac equation. A new method to calculate the asymptotics of the expectation values of the operator $\int\limits_{0} ^{\infty}e^{iH_{0}t}ζ\left( \frac{\left\vert x\right\vert }{R}\right) e^{-iH_{0}t}dt,$ as $R\rightarrow\infty,$ is presented. Here $H_{0}$ is the free Dirac operator and $ζ\left( t\right) $ is such that $ζ\left( t\right) =1$ for $0\leq t\leq1$ and $ζ\left( t\right) =0$ for $t>1.$ This approach allows us to obtain the time delay operator $δ\mathcal{T}\left( f\right) $ for initial states $f$ in $\mathcal{H} _{2}^{3/2+\varepsilon}\left( \mathbb{R}^{3};\mathbb{C}^{4}\right) ,$ $\varepsilon>0,$ the Sobolev space of order $3/2+\varepsilon$ and weight $2.$ The relation between the time delay operator $δ\mathcal{T}\left( f\right) $ and the Eisenbud-Wigner time delay operator is given. Also, the relation between the averaged time delay and the spectral shift function is presented.
We define a new class of partial differential equations of first order (complex covariantly equipped systems of equations), which are invariant with respect to (pseudo)orthogonal changes of cartesian coordinates of (pseudo)euclidian space. It is shown that for pseudoeuclidian spaces of signature (1,n-1) covariantly equipped systems of equation can be written in the form of Friedrichs symmetric hyperbolic systems of equations of first order. We prove that Dirac and Dirac-Hestenes model equations belong to the class of covariantly equipped systems of equations.
Previously (A. Akhmeteli, J. Math. Phys., v. 52, p. 082303 (2011)), the Dirac equation in an arbitrary electromagnetic field was shown to be generally equivalent to a fourth-order equation for just one component of the four-component Dirac spinor function. This was done for a specific (chiral) representation of gamma-matrices and for a specific component. In the current work, the result is generalized for a general representation of gamma-matrices and a general component (satisfying some conditions). The resulting equivalent of the Dirac equation is also manifestly relativistically covariant a…
A relationship between the discrete Dirac-Kähler equation and discrete analogues of some Dirac type equations in the geometric spacetime algebra is discussed. We show that a solution of the discrete Dirac-Kähler equation can be represented as the sum and difference of solutions of discrete Dirac type equations with the corresponding sign of the mass term.
A self consistent solution to Dirac equation in a Kerr Newman space-time with $M^2 > a^2 + Q^2$ is presented for the case when the Dirac particle is the source of the curvature and the electromagnetic field. The solution is localised, continuous everywhere and valid only for a special choice of the parameters appearing in the Dirac equation.
Recently, we have demonstrated that some subsolutions of the free Duffin-Kemmer-Petiau and the Dirac equations obey the same Dirac equation with some built-in projection operators. In the present paper we study the Dirac equation in the interacting case. It is demonstrated that the Dirac equation in longitudinal external fields can be also splitted into two covariant subequations.
Solitary waves of nonlinear Dirac, Maxwell-Dirac and Klein-Gordon-Dirac equations are considered. We prove that the energy-momentum relation for solitary waves coincides with the Einstein energy-momentum relation for point particles.
A discrete analogue of the Dirac equation in the Hestenes form is constructed by introduction the Clifford product on the space of discrete forms. We discuss the relation between the discrete Dirac-Kähler equation and a discrete Hestenes equation.
We study subsolutions of the Dirac and Duffin-Kemmer-Petiau equations described in our earlier papers. It is shown that subsolutions of the Duffin-Kemmer-Petiau equations and those of the Dirac equation obey the same Dirac equation with some built-in projection operator. This covariant equation can be referred to as supersymmetric since it has bosonic as well as fermionic degrees of freedom.
We suggest a so-called Dirac type tensor equation with nonabelian gauge symmetry on pseudo-Riemannian space. This equation reproduce some of the properties of spinor Dirac equation. A geometrical interpretation of results in terms of Riemannian geometry is given.
A derivation of the Dirac equation in `3+1' dimensions is presented based on a master equation approach originally developed for the `1+1' problem by McKeon and Ord. The method of derivation presented here suggests a mechanism by which the work of Knuth and Bahrenyi on causal sets may be extended to a derivation of the Dirac equation in the context of an inference problem.
Discrete models of the Dirac-Kähler equation and the Dirac equation in the Hestenes form are discussed. A discrete version of the plane wave solutions to a discrete analogue of the Hestenes equation is established.
We prove dispersive decay estimates for the one-dimensional Dirac operator and use them to prove asymptotic stability of small gap solitons in the nonlinear Dirac equations with quintic and higher-order nonlinear terms.
We obtain a dispersive long-time decay in weighted energy norms for solutions of the 1D Dirac equation with generic potential. The decay extends the results obtained by Jensen, Kato and Murata for the Schrödinger equations.
We suggest a tensor equation on Riemannian manifolds which can be considered as a generalization of the Dirac equation for the electron. The tetrad formalism is not used. Also we suggest a new form of the tensor Dirac equation with a Spin(1,3) gauge symmetry in Minkowski space.
The Dirac-Siddharth Equation has been constructed from the Siddharth hamiltonian by quantization of the energy and momentum in Pauli algebra. We have solved this equation by using tensor product of matrices.
We introduce an equation named matrix Dirac equation which can be considered as a generalization of Dirac equation for an electron. The liaison between matrix Dirac equation and standard Dirac equation is discussed. We write a lagrangian from which matrix Dirac equation can be derived. This lagrangian is invariant under global unitary transformations of variables. The requirement of a local (gauge) invariance of lagrangian leads us to lagrangian with gauge fields.
In this paper the inverse scattering problem for the nonstationary Dirac-type system on the whole plane was considered. A nonlinear evolution sytem of equation related to nonstationary Dirac-type system is introduced and the solviblity of this sytem using the IST method is studied.
Contemporary presentation of the version 1 demonstrates briefly the development of our investigations and our future goals. The improved free of difficulties in interpretation and printing errors version is presented. The 256-dimensional gamma matrix representations of the Clifford algebra and corresponding representations of SO(10) and SO(1,9) algebras over the field of real numbers are introduced. This turned out to be possible in the space of eight-component spinors, and not for the ordinary four-component Dirac spinors. The proposed mathematical objects allow the generalization of our resu…
We have proved on the basis of the symmetry analysis of the standard Dirac equation with nonzero mass that this equation may describe not only fermions of spin 1/2, but also bosons of spin 1. The new bosonic symmetries of the Dirac equation in both the Foldy -- Wouthuysen and the Pauli -- Dirac representations are found. Among these symmetries (together with the 32-dimensional pure matrix algebra of invariance) the new, physically meaningful spin 1 Poincare symmetry of equation under consideration is proved. In order to carry out the corresponding proofs a 64-dimensional extended real Clifford…
It is shown that the second order symmetry operators for the Dirac equation on a general two-dimensional spin manifold may be expressed in terms of Killing vectors and valence two Killing tensors. The role of these operators in the theory of separation of variables for the Dirac equation is studied.
Delay-difference and delay-differential analogues of the KdV and Boussinesq (BSQ) equations are presented. Each of them has the N-soliton solution and reduces to an already known soliton equation as the delay parameter approaches 0. In addition, a delay-differential analogue of the KP equation is proposed. We discuss its N-soliton solution and the limit as the delay parameter approaches 0. Finally, the relationship between the delay-differential analogues of the KdV, BSQ, and KP equations is clarified. Namely, reductions of the delay KP equation yield the delay KdV and delay BSQ equations.
We present a so called Dirac-type tensor equation (DTTE). This equation is written in coordinateless form with the aid of differential operators $d$ and $δ$. A wave function of DTTE belongs to a minimal left ideal of the algebra of exterior forms with respect to the Clifford product. We show that a coordinate form of DTTE is identical to the Dirac equation in a fixed coordinate system.
The consideration of the Fermi - Bose duality of the Dirac equation with arbitrary mass has been continued. The bosonic solutions of this equation in the Foldy - Wouthuysen representation are found. The Bargman - Wigner analysis of additional solutions and comparison with standard fermionic solutions are carried out. The evident demonstration of additional bosonic features of the Foldy - Wouthuysen and Dirac equation is presented.
It is shown that in the two-dimensional space-time the dynamic system, described by the free Klein-Gordon equation, turns to the dynamic system, described by the free Dirac equation, provided the current and the energy-momentum tensor are redefined in a proper way.
The Maxwell-Dirac equations are the equations for electronic matter, the "classical" theory underlying QED. In this article we examine the stationary Maxwell-Dirac equations under weak regularity and decay assumptions. We prove that: There are no embedded eigenvalues in the essential spectrum, $-m\leq E\leq m$. If $|E|< m$ then the Dirac field components (and their derivatives) decay exponentially at spatial infinity. If $E|=m$ then the system is "asymptotically" static and decays exponentially if the total charge is non-zero.
Considering a four dimensional parallelisable manifold, we develop a concept of Dirac-type tensor equations with wave functions that belong to left ideals of the set of nonhomogeneous complex valued differential forms.
A novel method is developed to derive the original Dirac equation and demonstrate that it is the only Poincare invariant dynamical equation for 4-component spinor wavefunctions. New Poincare invariant generalized Dirac and Klein-Gordon equations are also derived. In the non-relativistic limit the generalized Dirac equation gives the generalized Levy-Leblond equation and the generalized Pauli-Schrodinger equation. The main difference between the original and generalized Dirac equations is that the former and latter are obtained with zero and nonzero phase functions, respectively. Otherwise, bot…
We discuss the application of recent results on generalized solutions to the Cauchy problem for hyperbolic systems to Dirac equations with external fields. In further analysis we focus on the question of existence of associated distributional limits and derive their explicit form in case of free Dirac fields with regularizations of initial values corresponding to point-like probability densities.
We demonstrate that neutral Dirac particles in external electric fields, which are equivalent to generalized Dirac oscillators, are physical examples of quasi-exactly solvable systems. Electric field configurations permitting quasi-exact solvability of the system based on the $sl(2)$ symmetry are discussed separately in spherical, cylindrical, and Cartesian coordinates. Some exactly solvable field configurations are also exhibited.
We considered an extension of the standard functional for the Einstein-Dirac equation where the Dirac operator is replaced by the square of the Dirac operator and a real parameter controlling the length of spinors is introduced. For one distinguished value of the parameter, the resulting Euler-Lagrange equations provide a new type of Einstein-Dirac coupling. We establish a special method for constructing global smooth solutions of a newly derived Einstein-Dirac system called the {\it CL-Einstein-Dirac equation of type II} (see Definition 3.1).
We propose a systematic method for constructing integrable delay-difference and delay-differential analogues of known soliton equations such as the Lotka-Volterra, Toda lattice, and sine-Gordon equations and their multi-soliton solutions. It is carried out by applying a reduction and delay-differential limit to the discrete KP or discrete two-dimensional Toda lattice equations. Each of the delay-difference and delay-differential equations has the N-soliton solution, which depends on the delay parameter and converges to an N-soliton solution of a known soliton equation as the delay parameter ap…
The triality properties of Dirac spinors are studied, including a construction of the algebra of (complexified) biquaternion. It is proved that there exists a vector-representation of Dirac spinors. The massive Dirac equation in the vector-representation is actually self-dual. The Dirac's idea of non-integrable phases is used to study the behavior of massive term.
An equation, we call Dirac gamma-equation, is introduced with the help of the mathematical tools connected with the Clifford algebra. This equation can be considered as a generalization of the Dirac equation for the electron. Some features of Dirac gamma- equation are investigated (plane waves, currents, canonical forms). Furthermore, on the basis of local gauge invariance regarding unitary group, a system of equations is introduced consisting of Dirac gamma-equation and the Yang-Mills or Maxwell equations. This system of equations describes a Dirac's field interacting with the Yang-Mills or M…
We construct a new discrete analog of the Dirac-Kähler equation in which some key geometric aspects of the continuum counterpart are captured. We describe a discrete Dirac-Kähler equation in the intrinsic notation as a set of difference equations and prove several statements about its decomposition into difference equations of Duffin type. We study an analog of gauge transformations for the massless discrete Dirac-Kähler equations.
We derive dispersion estimates for solutions of the one-dimensional discrete perturbed Dirac equation. To this end we develop basic scattering theory and establish a limiting absorption principle for discrete perturbed Dirac operators.
We prove the existence of a $L^2$-normalized solitary wave solution for the Maxwell-Dirac equations in (3+1)-Minkowski space. In addition, for the Coulomb-Dirac model, describing fermions with attractive Coulomb interactions in the mean-field limit, we prove the existence of the (positive) energy minimizer.
We prove the following theorem: the Dirac equation for an electron (invented by P.A.M.Dirac in 1928) can be written as a tensor equation. An equation is called a tensor equation if all values in it are tensors and all operations in it take tensors to tensors.
In this article we present the algebraic rearrangement, or matrix inversion of the Dirac equation in a curved Riemann-Cartan spacetime with torsion, the presence of non-vanishing torsion is implied by the intrinsic spin-1/2 of the Dirac field. We then demonstrate how the inversion leads to a reformulation of the fully non-linear and self-interactive Einstein-Cartan-Dirac field equations in terms of Dirac bilinears. It has been known for some decades that the Dirac equation for charged fermions interacting with an electromagnetic field can be algebraically inverted, so as to obtain an explicit …
The Maxwell-Dirac equations with nonzero charge mass in one space dimension are studied under the Lorentz gauge condition. The global existence and uniqueness of solution in $C([0,+\infty);L^2(R^1))\times C_b(R^1 \times [0,\infty))$ for initial value problem of Maxwell-Dirac equations are proved.
We prove local smoothing and weighted Strichartz estimates for the Dirac equation with a Aharonov-Bohm potential. The proof relies on an explicit representation of the solution built in terms of spectral projections.
We consider $(2+1)$ dimensional massless Dirac equation in the presence of complex vector potentials. It is shown that such vector potentials (leading to complex magnetic fields) can produce bound states and the Dirac Hamiltonians are $η$-pseudo Hermitian. Some examples have been explicitly worked out.
We study the evolution equations for a regularized version of Dirac-geodesics, which are the one-dimensional version of Dirac-harmonic maps. We show that for the regularization being sufficiently large, the evolution equations subconverge to a regularized Dirac-geodesic. In the end, we discuss the limiting process of removing the regularization.
This paper studies the large time behavior of solution for a class of nonlinear massless Dirac equations in $R^{1+1}$. It is shown that the solution will tend to travelling wave solution when time tends to infinity.
We prove endpoint estimates with angular regularity for the wave and Dirac equations perturbed with a small potential. The estimates are applied to prove global existence for the cubic Dirac equation perturbed with a small potential, for small initial $H^{1}$ data with additional angular regularity. This implies in particular global existence in the critical energy space $H^{1}$ for small radial data.
In this article we develop energy methods for a large class of linear and nonlinear Dirac-type equations in two-dimensional Minkowski space. We will derive existence results for several Dirac-type equations originating in quantum field theory, in particular for Dirac-wave maps to compact Riemannian manifolds.
We show that Bose-Einstein condensates in a honeycomb optical lattice are described by a nonlinear Dirac equation in the long wavelength, mean field limit. Unlike nonlinear Dirac equations posited by particle theorists, which are designed to preserve the principle of relativity, i.e., Poincaré covariance, the nonlinear Dirac equation for Bose-Einstein condensates breaks this symmetry. We present a rigorous derivation of the nonlinear Dirac equation from first principles. We provide a thorough discussion of all symmetries broken and maintained.
We study the qualitative behavior of nonlinear Dirac equations arising in quantum field theory on complete Riemannian manifolds. In particular, we derive monotonicity formulas and Liouville theorems for solutions of these equations. Finally, we extend our analysis to Dirac-harmonic maps with curvature term.
A formulation of Dirac's equation using complex-quaternionic coordinates appears to yield an enormous gain in formal elegance, as there is no longer any need to invoke Dirac matrices. This formulation, however, entails several peculiarities, which we investigate and attempt to interpret.
New inverse and half-inverse problems: {\it sliding problems} are introduced. In this way several physically important equations are recovered from the quantum defect. In particular, sliding problems are solved for radial Schrödinger equation, radial Dirac system and multidimensional Schrödinger equation. Systems with Coulomb-type potentials are considered as well.
The Dirac equation for massive free electrically neutral spin 1/2 particles in a gravitation field is considered. The secondary quantization procedure is applied to it and the Hilbert space of multiparticle quantum states is constructed.
We write the Dirac equation in curved 4-dimensional Lorentzian spacetime using concepts from the analysis of partial differential equations as opposed to geometric concepts.
